"Have dropped in a few times when in the hood, and have purchased a couple of gifts"

Sweet, small museum. More of a gallery. Definitely thoroughly check the exhibit descriptions before you plan your trip. There are 2 seasonal exhibits and no permanent collections. While I visited, The Object In It’s Place and Living With Scents were on display. Object wasn’t my thing, was super curation-focused and just wasn’t for me. If you love sculpture would be great for you! I loved the Scents exhibit. Very interesting and thoughtful, a bunch of different artists were tasked on thinking about scent as design. So interesting to read and experience the scents themselves. Even with Covid and being masked, it was interactive and I experienced the scents. The objects were beautiful, funny, serious, thought-provoking. I loved how everything was so different. I brought back to my own graphic design practice the installation design, the fact that it made me think about the way that others experience my work in all senses, and the flow of the exhibit itself. It was a pretty short visit, I read everything and was pretty paced and detailed, about 40 minutes for me! Beautiful shop with lots of nice books as well.

As someone who comes from a war-torn country, I was genuinely moved by “Designing peace” exhibit. Some of the highlights include: - a phone app designed to assist people in war-torn countries locate shelter, food, medical supplies ( in multiple languages) - Handbags designed for refugees fleeing conflicts - 2 street block wide street signs “Black lives matter” - A 13-story tower designed specifically for post-war countries - “Regreening Africa” initiative - a Rug made of bullets The gift shop offers distinctive items that are perfect for those seeking unique and memorable gifts. Located in the Dogpatch district, the museum is surrounded by a variety of dining options. Some notable establishments include Souvla, known for its delicious cuisine, a wood-fired organic bagel shop, and a bakery that offers delectable treats like crème brûlée-style croissants.
Have dropped in a few times when in the hood, and have purchased a couple of gifts. Its a pleasant place to browse. Contains a moderate mishmash of household and personal items, designed by small house designers, which I believe are mostly local to the bay area. Prices vary - some items are priced equal or better than their mass market equivalent and some are at designer prices. In particular I would recommend their collection of full size shopping bags that collapse into their own tiny zipped pouch, compare well in price to similiar products on Etsy, Amazon, MOMA, etc, and most importantly had unique TASTEFUL patterns and colors. I wouldn't call it a museum - more like if the MOMA store gave 30-50% of its space over to installations and displays. Though they also have various craft/arts events and programs.
It’s a cute small museum with a unique vibe and spin. It’s a great place to spend an hour and then stroll 3rd street and the neighborhood for a bite and a drink. I found hard to go through the exhibition because there’s wasn’t any place to sit and I have a disability that makes it hard for me to stand for a long time. I also found the posters with a huge amount of information in an usual small font. They had a QR code for Large print TLDR content. But I think that a better design is to have a larger print short poster with a callouts to large content. Overall good little side destination of San Francisco. If you’re visiting for a short time definitely visit first SFMOMA, DeYoung and the Legion of Honor.
For a museum showcasing design, it does little to demonstrate that its designs are effective or that they meet a need. Many ideas for how one might do good, particularly in the Designing Peace exhibit, but where's the evidence that they *do*? Lots of platitudes with little substance. The gallery itself is quite small especially for $10 admission - the gift shop is a substantial portion of the floor space. Overall not worth the excursion or price.

This small, pleasant museum recently re-located to the rapidly-growing Dogpatch neighborhood. The location is excellent, handy to chocolate, ice cream, cheese, and the Illinois Street bike lane. Coming from the Mission? Take the 22 Fillmore. Coming on CalTrain? Get off at the 22nd Street station. I was here last week for an extremely well-catered event. This place is big enough to accommodate your event and cozy enought everyone will feel at home
It's a very unique place to visit. Lots of arts and crafts, videos throughout the museum explaining how wool are use in soo many ways. Arts and crafts hand on workshops. The employees were all nice and friendly. They welcome you in and smile. That's what makes it a nice environment. No one following you around, you can sit, relax, watch the videos, and read the printouts of everything they have in there. I really enjoyed that MUSEUM.
Really fantastic gift shop. However, given the $8 price tag, I expected a lot more content in the exhibits. I am a slow museum-goer (i.e., I take my time with exhibits and like to read the materials), but it took me only about 15 min to see the entire museum. The exhibits were interesting just very bare bones, so I left wanting more. If it were free, or more like $3, I would’ve been ok with it.
Came here on a free SF museum weekend. Small footprint, but enjoyed a thought-provoking exhibit “Designing Peace”. Nice gift shop. Spend 1.5 hours here, then enjoy a nearby craft beer, specialty cheese, or browse a boutique florist. Worried that street parking in the Dogpatch would be a problem but was easy on a winter weekend.

This place is basically just a cute store that charges admission. Perhaps my issue was really a reflection of the exhibit in place when I was there, but largely what we saw was either vacant display areas or self important lighting work. They shouldn't have charged admission. And it definitely wasn't something that should be advertised on every sign in the neighborhood.
The current exhibition is absolutely beautiful. I was moved by each artist’s unique style and perspective about being a part of the scene in San Francisco. Plus in their gift store they stock so many books from my favourite publisher: Phaidon.

Great museum, lived how cozy small and to the point it was. I saw the machines exhibit and it was very cool. They have a tinker lab which was cool, game of chess with nuts and bolts and othefmaterials. Only thing is there was a employee just watching us the whole time to see if we were touching the case, which was a bit awkward, but I really reccomend it
This is a somewhat small art museum. The items they have on display are somewhat "quirky" in a good way. Your are challenged to stretch a little (not too much) to see/feel the artistic content. We enjoyed our visit. They have a particularly good museum store with quality items you won't see in most other places. The jewelry was particularly well done.
I wished the museum had more stuff to show, considering how pricey and extensive the gift shop is. The exhibits were really nice though and the industrial neighborhood had a couple hipster cafes nearby that were nice to work in. Really nice staff in the museum, nice entrance and benches to sit and rest in front of the museum, when it is nice outside
It’s a very small museum in the middle of Dogpatch with great facilities and a revolving array of artists. They also have a fantastic museum shop with lots of creative and fun items. And we also fortunately went on a Wednesday, so it was a pay-what-you-can day. We paid the normal admission price anyways, but it was nice to have that choice.
The museum fails on all levels. First, there is no craft or design on display. Second, what is on display is all knee-jerk liberal political, the same old tired stuff, mostly just painted on the walls. The "museum" is one room, not particularly, large, so good or bad, there woud never be much there. It's nervy of them to charge admission.
Tickets were $10 pp, no wait during the weekday and I went early afternoon. The exhibits on display were pretty cool and some were interactive. A really neat museum nestled in the neighborhood. Would recommend.

If you love Craft, Design, Art & Museum then come and welcome The Museum of Craft and Design to the Dogpatch District! I'm super excited they are here. It's a great place. They also have monthly events besides the exhibits. It's a great place to keep up with different artists and designers. The space is fantastic, too!
I love this little museum in Dogpatch. You can take the T line of the Muni Metro to close to their front door. They have a nice gift shop and this year they hosted Style 18, a wonderful wearable art event with around 40 vendors selling jewelry and wearable art. But also check out their current are exhibits!
It's good, it's pretty small so I'm glad I'm able to get in free with my reciprocal museum pass, but the works they have on display are interesting and the gift shop is cute. Check out the Minnesota Street Project while you're at it, it's nearby and a bunch of different free galleries.
This was a really nicely organize exhibition space. The shows were engaging. The museum did an amazing job spotlighting the artistic community in the Bay Area.

Really disappointed with this museum. There’s only 1 room showing around 20-30s artworks. All the works are not qualified for a museum. Don’t waste you time and money in this place.

This is a really cool museum. The exhibits were really fun and cool to look at. The staff was super welcoming and friendly. We also loved the way everything was set up and the overall feel to the museum itself. If you are in the area be sure to swing in and check it out.
Really cool little museum. Very little. The exhibit was really well done and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only reason this isn't five stars is that it is SO tiny. By no means a waste of time. Visit when you have a free hour between other activities.
Small & interesting museum. Great exhibits, impressive artists & frequently infused with humor & social commentary.... My daughter & I always enjoy visiting, especially during one of their frequent art making events. Also appreciate the eclectic gift shop.
Small space yet more than adequate and satisfying for a free 1-hr visit. Hope more designers and crafters can afford to stay on in SF!

Well I wouldnt call it a museum. Its mostly a design shop with a bit of space in the rear to exhibit. The ticket to this place is expensive since you finish seeing the museum in 5 mins. So avoid buying the tickets just visit the design shop.
The gift shop is great. The museum is less so. When we went, there was just a small exhibition on pavilions. Not extremely engrossing. Luckily we went on a free day- it would have been annoying to spend 8 bucks on the adult entrance ticket.
We came here for a special event and they were serving beer and wine- it was a lot of fun! The instructor was nice and knowledgeable. The gift shop had a lot of cute stuff including handmade post cards, trinkets, and jewelry.
This was one the most interesting & provoking Muesums I visited while in San Fran... Way more price efficient than the others. Small yet full of unique BEAUTY. I would definitely suggest checking out while you're in town.
Fantastic neighborhood museum in Dogpatch with wonderfully curated shows. They offer a monthly family Make Day -- perfect for kids and adults, snacks included. Excellent gift shop, and helpful, kind staff.
Being an artist and designer myself, this was a really cool collection. I was a bit surprised. Some may find it small but the exhibits were carefully selected and really span the entire art world.
Cute small little museum. Loved the exhibit. The price for entrance is a bit pricy but you're also in San Francisco so there's that. They have a great little book store and prints to buy as well!
I can understand this museum may be a let down for out of town tourists due to its small exhibition, but it is really informative. Could use a bit more interactive design to engage visitors.
Decent museum with some interesting pieces. Its definitely a bit small for the price ($8), and the merch out front is violently over-priced. It's not a bad stop if you're bored, though.
Small museum but very high quality of fine art level handiwork. Admission is cheap ($8) and worth the cost. Third Thursday nights are craft night with projects to complete
Great little museum, has very interesting exhibits, often times at the forefront of technological applications in art, showing modern art not often seen elsewhere.
Under construction for now, but they're still advertising their free museum days for whatever reason. You literally can only view the lobby and gift shop. Shammy.
Incredibly small space that makes you feel like you're in a bigger arts and crafts store than a museum. Fun for a quick stop but not a high priority visit for me.
Small but interesting museum with a well curated main exhibit(was told they change about every 4 months). No permanent collection. Certainly worth a visit!
Super small ... for the price of admission I thought there would be a bit more to it. I enjoyed what we saw, there just wasn't much. Lovely gift store.
Tiny museum, wasn't really interested in the veterans' art exhibit. Price is great. Merch store is tiny. Worth checking out but don't get too excited.
Make sure to read what's the exhibit before you go in. Sometimes they gear more towards art than actual craft or design and it's a bit disappointing.
Great museum experience! Interesting exhibition about textile, craft and art. Friendly staff, cool things in the shop and not so far of the downtown.
Currently displaying a curated exhibit called "Designing Peace," which features multimedia pieces from international artists about global issues.

Small museum with interesting exhibits which rotate often and an eclectic gift store. The bathrooms are exquisite by SF standards.
Always a great curation. I look forward to every visit! And the shop is absolutely delightful for interesting and inspiring items.
If you want to visit a non conventional museum, this is it, great local artists and good stuff to buy. Quiet and unique.
A small, well curated art space that is always inspirational and surprising. I love every visit that I make here.
A must visit if you are interested in design. Their gift shop is full of interesting jewelry, books, and toys.
Small but very cool. I went when they had the ammunition exhibit. Buzzy vibe with cool trinkets for sale too!
So small and poorly curated. Not really much of a museum. I think the gift shop is bigger than the "museum".
It's not a museum: it's a gallery. Eight bucks is too much. Three or four would be more appropriate.
Definitely a gift shop that charges admission. Current exhibit is a headache-inducing project show.
small, but nice experience. plenty of street parking. wouldn't bring kids. free first Tuesdays
Small, but excellent exhibits, even for me, who has no experience in craft or design
I was amazed by the exhibits. It's a small place but very worth visiting.
Unique small museum with a charming gift shop. It’s worth a visit.
Such an amazing exhibit in a charming little spot. A most go.
Very impressive architecture. Its exhibits are very original.
Interesting exhibits but small with a good gift shop .
It is very small and does not worth the admission fee.
There's absolutely NOTHING in the museum
No crafts and 1 room
