I was able to get a really good price on a rental car at National during our recent trip to Spain. We picked up and dropped the car off at the Madrid airport location. We had reserved a Cleo but we were upgraded. Usually that would be good but we would have preferred the smaller car due to tight parking in Europe. Regardless, we were happy with our car. It wasn't until we were happily driving in Spain when I read the reviews for this rental agency. There are a lot of bad reviews so I was very concerned when I dropped the car off as people were complaining of being over charged. In my case, we had a very small accident in which I very gently rubbed one of the bumpers on a metal pole. There was a small area of abrasion. In addition, the day before we were to return the car, someone opened their door into my driver's side front door and there was another little impact dent. I didn't purchase supplementary insurance as the insurance was covered by my high end credit card. However, it would have been a hassle to deal with the paper work and potentially have to pay upfront and then try to get reimbursed by my credit card company. I was upfront when I returned the car, showing the very small areas of damage and expecting the worse. However, this didn't happen. The two young men working the desk that day, Alvaro and Rodrigo, were very professional and spoke very good English. They explained that there is a formula used to determine if damage claim has to be submitted. This is based on the size of the damage. Alvaro diligently measured both areas of damage and reported that both were within the acceptable limits and there was no need to submit a claim. They could have easily charged me for this damage as I would not have known about the formula to determine if the damage is significant. Alvaro was aware of the previous bad reviews of this agency and explained that they were trying to be completely transparent with every rental. He also went to great lengths to go over the bill with me to make sure that everything was correct and appropriate. Thank you very much, Alvaro and Rodrigo. I was very pleased with my experience with National.

No recomiendo alquilar un coche en esta oficina. La manager de National Rent a Car es una maleducada, no tiene ética profesional y no es una persona honesta. Incluso discute con su personal delante de los clientes. Sus compañeros del grupo Enterprise tampoco ayudarán, impasibles mientras ella se aprovecha del cliente y solo dispuestos a “soltar” un speech cuando yo discutía con ella. Pésimos profesionales todos ellos. La susodicha (que se negó a identificarse) intentó que tuviese que hacer una nueva reserva (precio x 5) diciéndome que mi tarjeta de crédito no era válida. A eso se llama aprovecharse de la necesidad de tu cliente (saben que a priori no tienes otra opción) Muy poco ético. Por supuesto me negué a sufrir este abuso, puse una reclamación y me fui. En otra compañía de alquiler de coche me trataron muy bien y pude alquilar mi vehículo (fíjate tú, allí si funcionaba mi tarjeta de crédito…) En definitiva, no vayan a esta oficina, tienen otras opciones en la terminal T4 donde encontrarán personal profesional y les atenderán adecuadamente. No volveré a alquilar un vehículo en esta oficina ni en ninguna otra del grupo Enterprise nunca más.

2nd worst experience as an Emerald Club Executive member. - Nearly 45min delay until a suitable car was available and I already had to hurry to an appointment. - Car had errors. I was lied to and told to ignore the errors but they didn't want to give me a written statement to ignore it. - Enterprise/National used my private credit without authorization so that I needed to block it and get a new one. - Tank was not full! They do this in general now to earn more money... But how should I know how much exactly I need to top up at the end? - They give you the car at the beginning only quickly checking. At the end they come with a special light and check also the underbody. Be careful! Luckily I took a lot of good pictures before. - They will even charge for you for stones that hit your windshield! This is out of your control and therefore not legal in Spain. But they try it and you need to claim it or go through court afterwards. Go somewhere else... I really really recommend to use other services like Hertz or Avis. I had better experiences there.

Although National/Enterprise Car Rental is an overall well run company, be very careful with this rental location. They try every possible way to overcharge. First they produced a rental agreement with much higher price than the quote and tried to trick me to sign it. Second, the tank was less than half full when I picked up the car. I was assured by the attendant at the time that she had already recorded it. However, they tried to charge me for returning the car without full tank even though the gasoline was more than the initial fuel level. Luckily I took a picture and documented the gasoline level when I rented the car. Also the rental location is in a paid parking lot and there is an adjacent paid lot that cannot drive through between them. There is no instruction how to get into the correct lot. I drove into the wrong lot and had to pay the parking before I can get out of it. Worst experience!!! I would give them less than one star if I could.

What an absolute disaster! Pretty much the whole team has been working in the company for either a couple days or just a few weeks. Waited for more than an hour to get my car, as they couldn’t figure out what rate I had reserved my car on, although I had showed them my reservation email beforehand! Upon returning the car, without any communication from their side I was charged more than €300 on my credit card. I literally had to chase them down over several complaints in order to get them to communicate with me these charges. Eventually they refunded part of the money. They single-handedly decided to raise my reservation price and apparently, I also got “an upgrade” therefore I was charged for it. I hope this review reaches wide and far. Not an experience I would anyone else to go through.

Rented a car through Queeq app to pickup at this National location in Madrid. I made the mistake of putting 8:00 PM instead of AM on pickup and drop off. The person at the National desk told me he had cars but he couldn´t amend the times and that I had to contact Qeeq. The customer service at Qeeq told me that they couldn´t amend the times and had to talk to National. I went back and forth with both of them in what it seemed like a Marx Brothers movie sketch. I had a full refund cancelation policy, so I just moved on and reserved a car on the spot for a cheaper price at a different rental company. I´m aware I made a mistake, I offered to pay an extra day and was willing to hear any other solution from National, none was given. I just can´t believe that they were not able to help me.

the worst experience with a car rental company for several years, I booked a large car with an automatic transmission for 8 a.m. after arriving at the office, the employees were surprised because there was no car, they suggested a smaller one with a manual transmission to go to the Jerez office at the airport and that Mr. Fernando would be waiting there and they will replace my car, they told me to wait for the car for 5 minutes and they brought the car only after an hour, after driving 500 km, Mr. Fernando stated that he didn't know anything about it and he didn't have a car for me and that I should try to talk to Madrid on my own, in Madrid no one answers the phone, I was left with my family without a car, I do not recommend it to anyone

I booked a SUV big and nice car, and I had to stick with a small ecconomy car. I booked an electric car for 9:00 am but the car "was not ready" and by 9:45 am in National - plaza Espana they told me I can take it with 50% charge or to waut 4 more hours for fully charge. In addition they offer me to replace this car with the only avalible car - a small ecconomy car, and refunded me for the differences... only 15 euros /day. Plus I booked unlimites milage and I found out the new small car has a limit of 350km per day. It's a scam. One more thing - I booked automatic car - and I got a manual one as well... I wrote today to the manager with no reply, if they will - I will update my review.

No pongo menos estrellas por que no se puede, hoy sábado he recogido un coche de Madrid Barajas y me ha atendido un chico que se llama Álvaro, me ha estafado!!! Me ha dado un coche mejor ( sin yo pedírselo) y luego me ha cargado un coste por upgrade de 70€, a parte me han dado el coche con 3/4 de gasolina y luego lo he devuelto en valencia lleno y no han querido devolverme el dinero, a parte en Valencia un chico cubano que trabaja en la oficina me ha cargado 550km de mas por error, total, que me han pasado una factura de 268€ cua do no debería llegar ni a 100€, estoy esperando a ver qué me dicen de facturación por que he eh hecho una reclamacion

Returned our rental here after hours but within the same day of receiving the rental in another city. We were charged for 3 days rental and “damages” totaling over €1100. Thank goodness I had proof of the scratch being there upon pickup and proof of the return parking slot with time and date stamp. This was the first time I used this rental company and it will definitely be the last. I do not trust them and I feel sorry for the next person that rents that vehicle as I’m sure they will get falsely blamed for the scratch as well. Super disappointed

Make sure you take pictures of the car before you leave the facility. They have VERY aggressive standards of judging damage. Also the roadside assistance is pushed hard (they got me :( ), which is complete BS. It is their car and if it breaks down, they will charge you the service fee to pick up their own car that failed???!! Unless you are going long distances from the hotel, I would recommend taxis or uber

Worst service ever!!!! I am emerald club which should be “better” but they do not care!!! They insult people, do whatever they want (they even started eating lunch while they told the clients that the car was there soon) they charge you more if you do not check everything and they skip all “corporate” rules, they invent their own just to take advantage of customers. A real scam!

Great car and service Just not so easy and clear how to get there. Need to get out of the terminal, turn left and walk about 200 meters until a bus station where a shuttle finally arrived. They could have sign it. Overall very good service.

I returned a car at this location. Very fast and good service. Make sure NOT TO FOLLOW Google map directions for returns. It will send you to the middle of nowhere Barajas. Just go to T1 (Terminal 1), the car rentals lot is in front.

Reservation thru National, the desk agent booked us on Alamo, requested diesel, got a gasser. Cost was higher for the rental, fuel costs were thru the roof. Don’t get a gas car in Europe. It will easily add 150€ to your trip.

No renten en National. Al menos no en el Aeropuerto de Barajas. No cumplen con los horarios de reserva. Tienen nulo sentido se atención. Evítense contratiempos y no renten aquí.

Nice people and car. A little pushy on the extras but to be expected. Location is at terminal 1. If you arrive at another terminal expect a 10 minute walk.
