**update. After much thought and deliberation, I want to change my rating. I was angry and upset that this happened to me. However, I don't know exactly why it happened. There is no proof, but I want to be fair. I am adding stars because of how professional the owner was every time. I told her in a panic what had happened, and I assumed she would fix it since I didn't go anywhere besides her business (it was unregistered and in my parking lot for a month). I suppose anything could have happened. I knew my brakes needed a flushing, the brake pads were at 80%, and so they were not the best before. She took my concern seriously and got my car in immediately and got it fixed that day. I don't want to dwell on the negative so I want to change this to at least represent the quality customer service I received and quick turn around. I did appreciate that. After getting my brake fluid changed, my friend drove it home for me and had told me the brakes were weird. We both assumed it was the oil adjusting or whatever. Now a month later, I finally take the car from my parking lot and the brakes are totally gone. How did this happen? Whatever they did in the shop messed up my brakes and they were completely gone when I began to drive again. I trusted this person but never again. I wouldn't take my new vehicle or recommend this shady place for any basic mechanic fixes.
Great work and great people, but when I brought in my old car for a brake job, I was given top of the line parts throughout. The bill was more than half the value of the car. Maybe their policy is to only use the best parts available, but I should have been given a heads up in advance. I think you have to match parts quality with the lifespan and value of the vehicle. At least give the customer the choice. 3.5 stars. Follow up: I appreciate your response. Not trying to hurt your business, but instead provide some constructive criticism. I said some nice things too, and I specified 3.5 stars. You didn't really deal with my main issue, which is considering the age and value of the vehicle when matching appropriate parts. You seem to be sticking to your guns that only the highest quality name brand parts will be used no matter how much life is likely left in the car or how little it is worth. That doesn't strike me as sensible. In my experience, there are quite good mid-grade "daily driver" parts that do the job quite well. For example, Rock Auto offers economy, daily driver, premium, and OEM parts in every category. My bill was quite a bit more than the range you quoted, and the car was scrapped about 6 months later because of a different catastrophic failure.
I brought my project volvo in here to have the brakes looked at. They were spongey and I figured they needed a bleeding. The car was also pulling when stopping. Brad told me the reason the car was pulling was that the front strut assembly was sliding slightly under an aftermarket engine brace, and that the washers I had used were the wrong ones - I disagreed with this as the brace was a recent addition and the car had been pulling from the day I bought it. Brad called me shortly after and told me that the front calipers were seized and needed replacing - this seemed reasonable so I agreed after asking whether the parts he would use were of good quality. Picked the car up and the brakes were still soft, so I phoned and was assured that the system had been properly bled. I bled the rear lines and a good amount of air came out. Also, the washers for the engine brace were missing and the strut nuts had been torqued into the shoulder of the brace - this was a bad sign. A bit of time goes by and I start to notice I am losing brake fluid. I brought the car to another mechanic and one of the new calipers was fractured in half. Scary. EDIT: after returning the core of the faulty caliper, I was refunded for the cost of the caliper - thank you.
We just moved into the neighbourhood, so we were hoping to have a great neighbourhood mechanic just down the road. Kate was friendly and personable and I left our vehicle there to be scanned for $50. Kate told me to come back in an hour and they will tell me the diagnosis. When I returned, they had gone ahead and fixed it without our verbal or written consent. I was a bit shocked I guess that they "fixed" it without my go-ahead and felt it was a bad ethical business choice on their part. I was told they patched up the part, but that they couldn't replace it because they didn't have that part and was told we should replace it in the future. I paid the $220 and left. After only a week our vehicle was running worst than it did before I took it there. We tried to give her an opportunity to rectify the problem, because I too am in the business of service. As a customer, its important to give a company an opportunity to make a bad experience into a good one. If they try their best to solve the problem, they have great customer service and business values, but they wouldn't even look at it. I wouldn't recommend going to neighbourhood mechanics :(
A great Hastings-Sunrise business. I own a 2017 VW Tiguan that I’d always had serviced at the dealership. I’d been getting a bit annoyed at the increasing cost, so I decided to shop around. Cost was impressively low. I got my four off-rim tires changed at the same time and the bill came out to around $300 for an oil change (VWs need fancy German oil), inspection, fluids, and tire swap. Last year, around this time, the dealership serviced my car and swapped my tires. It cost me close to $850 for a similar outcome. I’ll be using Kate and her team in future. They’re local. They’re quick. They’re cost-effective. They’re nice. All ticks in my book. I highly recommend them if you’re looking for automotive help.
Had consistently great experiences up until the last one a few years ago. I am posting now because I'm still crawling into my car from the passengers side as my drivers side door is not functional. Someone tried to break in while the car was sitting on the street outside their shop, ruining the lock, handle and cutting the vacuum lock lines inside. I was told the shop was not responsible for the destroyed car handle, despite it being in their custody. We paid for the $1,400 repair and left (never to return) because I could not afford the $400+ price tag they were going to charge me to buy a replacement door handle.
I went in with my 07’ Corolla having expected the worst, but Kate came out and scanned my vehicle, it ended up being a misfire and needed spark plugs and ignition wires. I thought my car was gone for, but Kate was able to fix it in two shakes of a lambs tail! I had been to another repair shop and was told it would be quite a lot more than what Neighbourhood Auto had quoted, not to mention the other repair shop had misdiagnosed the issue. Kate was so professional and attentive to my issues, i was super impressed and would highly recommend!!!
I had the best experience as this auto repair shop. Kate the owner is nothing less than spectacular. Super professional and thorough, I am really happy we went straight to her shop. The mechanic was full of knowledge and experience. They ran full reports and made sure our vehicle was above par. I couldn’t believe how efficient this shop was compared to other shops I’ve dealt with in the past. I am so grateful for this reliable and amazing shop. I appreciate everything you done for me Kate. You are wonderful!
Kate and crew are amazing!! I was so fortunate to find this little local shop and have been continually impressed with their customer service and auto-work. Like other commenters I was fed up with the bad service at dealerships and the high mark up for basic repairs, so won't be taking our car anywhere else. Highly recommended especially for those of us not-so-car-savvy people, as I completely trust Kate and the mechanics to make affordable and reasonable recommendations.
Brad and Katie from Neighbourhood Automotive were very personable and helpful when I had questions about my Jeep. They arranged a convenient time to come in and take care of the work that needed done, and made recommendations and referrals to assist. The Jeep was fixed and ready to go later that afternoon. Really good experience. A non nonsense and down to earth vibe in a great neighbourhood. I would recommend them.
I called and left my number and quickly received a callback from Kate, got a fair quote and a next day appointment. The car was done within the estimated time and is now back up and running. I appreciated being able to speak directly to the mechanic who worked on my car. Neighbourhood Automotive is small mechanic shop with a neat, car themed interior within walking distance of where I live. I'm sure I'll be back.
My car was making a screeching sound when it started up and I knew I had to have it checked out before going over to the island in two days. I called to see if they could help me out on short notice as they are literally in my neighbourhood, across from my daughter’s school. Kate said I could bring my car in right away and they had it assessed and fixed four hours later. Amazing service, will definitely be back.
Went to Neighbourhood for a tire swap, they did a great job, good communication and more noticeably, they were doing a great job on another vehicle they were working on. I had a chat about what was happening and the mechanic was very honest, knowledgeable and thorough. Definitely the type of establishment I’d feel comfortable going back to if I had any vehicle issues. Good vibes all around!
This shop is the best! Both times I’ve needed help with my vehicle Kate has been accommodating and got me and me up and running again in record time. I’ve had slight emergencies both days, which Kate has helped to solve. Amazing. My vehicle is essential for my work and I’m very grateful for this crew and shop. =) Million thanks, lovely people and quality work. Much appreciated.
I had a flat tire ,friend of me recommended to go Francis and #1 rd. to fix my flat tire ,which brought the flat tire to this shop, the gentleman was very friendly .he took the screw and didn't take 5 minutes but the elderly man behind the counter charged me $45 . I asked why 45 ? he replied our cost is too high. I was very disappointed . more Expensive then Canadian tire.
Kate and Eddie were amazing and they were able to spot a few things other shops have missed. They also explained it so well for someone that's not car savvy at all and made sure I understood what was being done and why. Highly recommend them and will come here from now on!
I've had two of my vehicles serviced at Neighbourhood Auto one 4x4 pick-up and one Gmc Rally Van and they do great work. Kate and her crew always fit me in, fix what needs to be fix with speed and Quality. They are honest and fair, I recommend them, Support Local!
This shop is great. They were incredibly transparent and straightforward when quoting the job, and they were super fast in completing the work. The people that work here are really friendly. Will definitely be returning.
Always love getting serviced here! The owner is so down to earth and it's never a headache to get work done. I always get my car back in a timely manner and the bill is always fair priced. Cheers Neighborhood Auto!
Before I found this spot I always dreaded getting work done on my car, but Kate and her team are so lovely! I find them super affordable and transparent about what needs to be done and the cost. Thank you!!
Always a fantastic experience at neighborhood Auto. Kate and Joe were able to help me during an emergency situation during the toughest time of the year. Couldn't be more thankful for their service.
Paying for car repair never feels great, but with the pals at Neighbourhood Auto it doesn't hurt so much because they're such a riot. :) highly recommend. Also they love stickers.
