"Went after work on a Tuesday place was packed (good sign!)"
I had a very uncomfortable experience. My friend made a booking via phone one day prior to our dinner. We went there and approached one female staff. She did not even double-check the booking and said, "You can see we are all full here, there's no booking, if you want to eat here, you'll have to wait for 40-45 mins". When my friend insisted that she called yesterday, she then went to flip a book, which I assumed it recorded the clients' bookings. She then realised that we did have one. My friends and I were really upset by the attitude of this staff. We were given looks, seemingly that we 'lied' about our booking. Luckily another staff came and said that there had been some miscommuncations, yet no apologoies were said by the staff. They did offer us a table but it was so tiny and it would be such an uncomfortble dinning experience for three of us squeezing in a corner. No one served us, not even giving us a menu. My friends and I decided to leave because we felt like we would hardly enjoy our meal here...I said to the other staff that we were just not feeling good to continue our dinning experience here. Even though we did not end up with a rough conversation, but I was really surprised how another staff responded when he said “you could make a complaint later”. This was rude and unprofessional of your company to have not given us proper service and expect a complaint. I am so unhappy with the treatment we received that day...Yes, we may look young and we are asians, but I was out just for a nice meal to celebrate with my friends and this is the service we experienced? Funny thing is that another white family who was waiting for a table before us. The staff apologised to them because they had been waiting...On the other hand, we were not given any apologies...My friends and I were really looking forward to this dinning experience. We are truly disappointed of how this dinner turned out... We did not want to make it a finger-pointing situation, however I want to voice this out so that you can improve your service quality. All customers from different background should be welcome. I sincerely hope that you would look into this matter.
I've always loved Made in Italy as they hold the bar pretty high for me in terms of classic Italian so it was great to visit its latest inception, 'Next Door'. Great 90s tracks set the atmosphere, a fully equipped bar to warm up the pallette before a night of pizza and pasta. Cocktails: MADE AT YORK LANE - apricot, citrus and rosemary infused Bombay Sapphire is deadly. It's the kind of cocktail that will creep on you where you end up dancing on top of the tables. GIRL NEXT DOOR - has the same nice peachey colour except is Bacardi with Watermelon, and Cucumber weaved through. Perfect choices for summer nights with a nice freshness to them. Mains: We had the MAMA MIA with gnocchi - it's italian sausage with cream, chilli and napoletana sauce. I actually prefer my pastas with a bit of heat and really enjoyed this. The CARBONARA is the classic comfort dish and is done well here. - creamy pearly sauce with smoky bacon mixed through in an aldente pasta - so good. The GAMBERI pizza with prawn, oregano, chilli flakes was awesome, nice crust and nice combination of flavours singing through each slice. Great service from our host Mauritzio, excellent wait times from ordering and top quality food.
4.5/5- great atmosphere and good place to grab a quick tasty pizza or pasta and a drink. Next Door is tucked away on York Lane just above Wynyard Station. This is a vibrant little pizza restaurant and bar that is always busy. If you can’t get a table there is a hole in the wall next door (Made in Italy) that is the kitchen for the restaurant and provides takeaway (same menu). You can grab a takeaway and have it on a milk crate in the laneway. The Pizzas have a thin and crispy base and just the right amount of topping. They come in med and large size. A medium will feed a hungry adult (me) or 2 adults if you getting sides also. A large is good for 2-3. Service is polite and friendly. There is no table service- conveniently order meals and drinks at the bar. The meals are served pretty quickly. There is probably better pizza in Sydney, however Next Door do a tasty flavoursome pizza and this is one of my favourite places for a quick meal after work in Sydney CBD. Highly recommended.

Tucked away in York Lane is a little gem of a place with a cocktail list worthy of seeking out, and in particular, The Made at York Lane which is a sophisticated mix of rosemary infused Bombay Sapphire gin, Aperol and fresh lemon. Drop in on a Thursday between 5-6pm for $10 mojitos during happy hour, $5 Peroni and $5 wine, and perhaps end the evening with a classic Espresso Martini. As well as a great drinks menu, enjoy homestyle pizza and pastas from sister eatery Made In Italy, next door to Next Door. Call out "Mamma Mia!" and you'll be rewarded with a big bowl of pasta with Italian sausage, mushrooms, cream and chilli in a rich Napoletana sauce. The menu offers a choice of spaghetti, fettuccine and penne but ask for the gnocchi if you're a fan of the pillowy, potato dough dumplings.
Went after work on a Tuesday place was packed (good sign!). The lady at the counter was lovely and friendly. Order at the counter. I got a gluten free meat lovers pizza ($22 for medium) and the gluten free gamberi. Chef brought out my meals which is a nice touch. The pizza was absolutely fantastic - probably the best gluten free base I’ve ever had! Right amount of toppings and cooked perfectly. The pasta was tasty but didn’t compare to pizza. Sauce wasn’t great and no cheese. Great serving size. GF pasta was your standard penne (not the best) but expected. Would definitely come back. Beautiful little location tucked away in York lane. Lots of couples! They also have happy hour 5-6pm which I missed. Happily gave me takeaway container and pizza box for leftovers. 9/10
Nice little place for some good Italian food. It is located super close to Wynyard station, in a dark alleyway (to be honest, it would probably be a little creepy at night). The restaurant has a small amount of seats (but wasn't too busy when we came, so it wasn't a problem), and a bar seating area. The menu had a few options where you choose your type of pasta (pretty standard). We got the arancini (mushroom) and I got the pesto pasta. The serving sizes for the pastas were pretty large and we both weren't able to finish! The food was decent, but probably could have had more sauce and flavours. The arancini balls were good - no complaints. Prices were good. Service was quick too - I think they have the kitchen area next door and the staff were very efficient.
This is by far my favourite restaurant, not just Italian, but of all cuisines, in the city. I am regular and the staff remember me, which is a nice added touch! Both their pasta and pizza are delicious. Their pizza is thin crust, so if you are someone that likes the big fluffy crust on a pizza, it's not for you. I have tried almost all of their dishes and have never been disappointed. My favourite is the arrabiata or prawn pasta, their prawn pizza, and Pollo pizza, with chili added. Have taken many friends there and they've all loved it as much.

The pizza place is good for a meal between work while you're in the city. The surroundings are a little noisy and chaotic which works for large groups of people. We were two people who visited in the afternoon and the kitchen was closing a little before the closing hours posted online. We prepaid for our order and the staff closed the counter and left. The pizza was good and the arrabiata we ordered was only okay. The quantity of the food was good for the price. All in all it isn't a bad place to go for pizza if you're looking for a convenient place in the city.

We found this restaurant on Trip advisor as I searched for reasonably priced Italian food near our hotel. Fortunately a review on the neighboring restaurant, which provides the food for Next Door warned me the restaurant is in the alley behind York. There is no access from York. The Cafe is small and the music is loud. When the cafe is crowded it is noisy. The tables are small and are meant for two to three people. We ordered a large pizza. Half was tropical and half was meat lovers. The pizza was large enough for four people. The pizza has a crisp thin crust. We preferred the meat lovers. The pizza was excellent.
The pizza was great! Thin crust and large size, very tasty and they do not scrimp on the ingredients. I can't say anything about the inhouse service or atmosphere of the place since we only did takeaway. If you want to dine in, you'll have to book in advance as the place is cost (smallish) and it gets really busy. Although it is inconspicuously tucked away in a non-descript alley way, it seems quite popular and was full of people when we went to get our takeaway pizza.

I now have a regular haunt for excellent pizza and pasta when I am in Sydney, consistently excellent food, great service, and always a sure sign of a good place when there is a decent chance you can't get a table unless you've booked in advance, this was a great visit (booked in advance) for a work team night out, stayed for a couple of beers post meal and were fortunate enough to be given some Lebanese treats to try after the meal which were absolutely out of this world, doesn't look much from the outside but, trust me, it's worth a visit, I now go every time I'm in Sydney..
+ Great spot for a team lunch with no set menu applicable. We had a group of 9. + Inclusive menu that has plenty of variety for all inc. vegan, seafood and vege dietary requirements + Decent and tasty sized portions at an affordable price. High value for money. + Efficient service between order and meal arrival times + Chill and relaxed atmosphere + Book in advance as this is a popular restaurant + Convenient location in Wynyard next to train and bus station Overall, I would recommend and revisit
Such a cute little place down a laneway. Stumbled across it when I was walking past and saw the lights. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. I got the mamma Mia fettucini and it was amazing. The sauce was creamy but not too rich. The sausage had so much flavour and overall could be the best pasta I've ever had. Price was reasonable too. Definitely worth a visit

I have been there a few times now, and it never disappoints... fast service even when busy and the staff are fantastic. Convenient to Wynyard station, the little national hotel and darling harbour via a tunnel. I had the fettuccine boscaiola, and it was delicious. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

While visiting Sydney, my sister and I almost accidentally found this place. I honestly cannot fault the service. The staff were very friendly and the food came so quickly. Best little hole in the wall Italian restaurant I've ever been to. The food was amazing. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting good Italian food. 5 stars

Pasta dishes were amazing - great portion sizes and very flavourful, plus didn't take long at all to get our food. Downside, got one cocktail after I finished my meal (had to go up to the bar and ask, and they supposedly forgot), and then we were rushed out (waiter asked if we had a long time left which I find very rude), as they had a line (even though by that point I only just got my cocktail so..) Amazing food, below average service.
I'm a pasta lover, and this is the best pasta I've had in Sydney by far! Their pesto, carbonara and boscaiola are unbelievable! So tasty and delicious! Nice atmosphere, good for couples, groups and small work lunch or dinner. Their happy hour is sooo good too! $10 pastas and $10 very reasonably sized pizzas. Also $5 house wines and beers during HH. Haven't tried their pizzas yet but they looked amazing! Im addicted!
Absolutely lovely pizza place tucked away in an alley. The pizza is fresh, the seasoning is perfect and it shows through the customers they have on any weekday night. I love how you can get half half, I had half Gamberi (prawns) and half Suprema and both were beautiful in their own ways. We got the large and it was more than enough for two hungry adults after work! Beautiful and would absolutely come back again
Place seemed promising at first ( Staff at the pizzeria next door were quite friendly) but I wasn't impressed with the way we were rushed into leaving 10 mins into our meal by being told there was a booking in 10 mins as we were eating. I had to eat fast & didn't quite enjoy my meal as a result. A heads-up regarding that booking right at the beginning would've been nice. We woulda had take-away instead.
We ordered Gamberi (Prawn) pizza, Bolognese (tomato) pasta and Carbonara (cream, bacon and eggs) pasta, every meal was so tasty and fresh. Their pizza is thin crust style, so if you are someone who likes the big fluffy crust on a pizza, it's not for you. Also, every meal had a decent portion which was very nice.

It was a tiny secret italian restaurant in york lane. I love it. I like the place, the food, the service and the price. The pizza we had was awesme. They also have really good pasta I like the nutella pizza for dessert. It's quiet and it feels cozy. It's a great place to catch up wih friends. It's not good for large groups though. Highly recommended.
I have been here twice in the past few weeks, pizza from next door. Good cocktails can get busy and loud. Service good, pizza good, cocktails very good and the price is fantastic for the centre of CBD. Overall, I highly recommend, but remember to book.

By far my favourite pizza joint in the CBD (it's more of a bar that orders from 'Made in Italy' down the way). Still good food, Italian Peronis (imported so its quality) and the customer service is top notch. During the week id recommend getting there at 12 to avoid the rush and get a table as there is limited seating.
Walked into the place to be greeted by a condescending waitress, the food started making up for it because it was actually really good (I had vege lasagna and my friend had a vege pizza) - but right near the end, I found hair in my food. I didn’t tell the restaurant at the time because I had to rush off back to work.
Great location. Layout bit disjointed. They have turned lights down a bit which gives bit more of cool atmosphere (but still too bright for me). Wonderful feel at tables outside and lovely private beer garden at the back. Staff always nice with a big smiles

A bit of chunky tomato sauce and some penne! That’s all it would take to make the pasta that costs $25!! Well what could have been better?? Serve it cold with someone taking feedback even colder! What else?!?! Well maybe try something else next time cause maybe microwave to heat cold pasta may not be working!

Little bit of a wait for a table for this rare find in Sydney located in a lane way. In Melbourne it’s a common thing. Pizza were thin, evenly cooked with just right, see generous toppings that are not over cheesed. Staff are always in the move and very friendly. Bar also has cocktails which is a bonus.
COVID or not, this restaurant delivered an excellent dinner experience! The food was fresh, well seasoned, and exceeded my expectations. Never mind the absence of the crowd on a given night - stay for the great service and tantalising tastes! Also, the bathrooms were clean...always a plus in my book.
Ordered the gamberi and suprema pizzas and boscaiola and mamma mia pastas during happy hour ($16 each excl seafood). They were delicious! I particularly liked the boscaiola pizza. Fun and affordable Italian bar to visit - will be back.

We arrived at Margaret’s jet lagged with our 2 year old toddler in toe on Saturday night. The Maitre D couldn’t have been nicer and walked us literally to Next Door to secure us a corner table. The food was fabulous, service exquisite & Neil Perry was personally waiting tables. What a rock star!

A nice little Italian restaurant bar with relatively affordable prices in the CBD area. Had a pizza, carbonara pasta and a schnitzel. My favourite was the pasta but the others taste pretty decent as well, though I've had better for sure. Overall, don't mind coming back.
Honestly the best pizza in the cbd. If not the whole of Sydney. But equally the service was old skool or if you been to the states, the wait staff behave like they only work on tips but never expected. Well done guys. I will be back again & you all should give it a go!
Ok. See if you are too precious to sit right on the alleyway on the plastic makeshift seats in front of 'Made it Italy' then good news... You can go next door (cleverly named) and have a seat and a drink and the same quality pizza from Made in Italy. Enough said :)
Small, but cosy little drinking hole in the heart of the city. Friendly bar staff. Pizzas available from next door take away shop and delivered to your table. The bar is small and so the variety of the drinks offered is limited...but they cover all the basics
Great little italian place in the heart of the CBD. Shared a pizza and a pasta with one other person and it was a really good pizza (stick with the medium one if you are not big eaters) . I wasn't blown away by the pasta but it was definitely well cooked.

Gluten Free and Vegan Pizza and Pasta available and decent quality. However service is non existent. They're overrun, need to hire more people. Person at the bar was focused on wiping bottles, rather than serving the multiple customers that were waiting.
The best Genuine Italian style Pizza I have had in OZ! Great service by the staff they bend over backwards to accommodate customers the vino is a tad expensive but no different to any other restaurant. In a nutshell they live up to their reputation.
An unexpected find while wandering through the CBD, popped in to enjoy the happy hour deals. Food was great at $16 for pizza/pasta, we enjoyed the Mamma Mia pasta especially. $6 gets you a bottle of peroni or $15 for a cocktail during happy hour.
Great, friendly service in a cosy atmosphere. Pizzas are good value. The smaller size being probably a little too much for one person unless they are ultra hungry. The larger size can easily feed two people.. Generous with fresh ingredients.

Very disappointed when I booked this restaurant for a family dinner out while on holiday in Sydney, only to turn up and it was closed! I had even received a booking confirmation email the day before, AND a booking reminder that morning??
What a perfect, busy Italian pizza place in a kind of "hole in the wall" location. I had the Cappriciosa and a very decent Shiraz by the glass (X2)! Service and customer engagement 100%. Buy shares, eat there, drink there, enjoy there.
This place is awesome! Super chilled and perfect for a great thin and crispy pizza or a classic pasta dish. No frills and good classic no fuss Italian. Happy hour until 6 has pizza or pasta for $10... Perfect amount for two people.
What a Fantastic little place. Great atmosphere, and pizzas are spot on. Arrived with a hungry family after sightseeing without reservations and although busy, they squeezed us in. Service was great and food arrived promptly.
Their pesto is sooo good. I've been having trouble finding great pesto pasta in Sydney, but this one is really good. Would've preferred it to be more oil based than creamy, but it's still good. The potato pizza is also nice.
What a lovely little place to get great pizzas! My friend and I tried the vegetarian and the prawn one; and they were both delish. Their Pinot Noirs are worth a try too.

In a nook between York Street and York Lane, had a very nice tasting margarita pizza. Quite quick to serve and tasted very nice. Prices reasonable and a regular sized pizza is a great size for its price.

The loveliest little laneway hideout. Hidden gem! Food absolutely delicious and the service some of the best we've ever encountered! Thank you Team Next Door for making our night really special!
Excellent service, great pizza and really nice wine on the happy hour. We keep going back as it just ticks all the boxes and most other places pales in comparison. Especially on the service side.
The problem with Italian food is that everyone has their favorite version of Mums home lasagne. Next door restaurants food was good but may have been a touch too expensive for the quality.
Great food and great music.. Despite the usual one table group that makes more noise than necessary.. It was an awesome place.. Girlfriend loved the authentic taste of Italian food..

Their food comes from Made in Italy next door so you can always ensure your pizza and pasta is going to be good. Bar man and drinks are always good with your pizza/pasta combo
This is a real hidden gem. Very simple restaurante, you have to order on the counter and seat to wait your order, but it is so delicious. Fair price and friendly staff.
Good place for after work drinks and eat. They have $10 special pizza from Made in Italy next door which is great if you are looking for cheap options in they city.
Great little place tucked away. You could tell the staff were a little under the pump but they were great to deal with considering. Worth a visit if you’re in town.
Authentic Italian pizza and pasta. It both looks and tastes good! Had one pizza and one pasta to share with my friend during 5 to 6pm Happy Hour. Totally worth it!
