Nickle Galleries is a nice, quiet place to enjoy if you're interested in art! The Nickle Galleries is inside Calgary University. I work with individuals with mental & physical disabilities, and our center decided to take a mini field trip to the Nickle Galleries & every client enjoyed the art that was created by students in the gallery. It was a very quiet space & the lights were dimmed downstairs so everyone could feel the art, the lady who presented every piece of art mentioned to us all that the lady who created the art downstairs was an aboriginal individual who wanted to make her viewers feel her art & experience the peace with her art pieces (from my understanding). It was a nice time & we captured some beautiful fotos.

The nickel galleries always have thought provoking work that takes up the space, encouraging you to move and explore with the work. The carpet makes it so you can't hear your footsteps, which takes you into the world of the artwork. The upstairs galleries offer amazing opportunities for smaller exhibitions. I love the staircase which let's me view the work below from another perspective. It takes the standard 5 seconds which people look at art and expands it as they explore and recognize something new about it. It's free to enter, they have free lockers to hold your bags and the shop is always full of lovely work to buy.

What a wonderful little gallery! It's free and as far as I can tell, does not have a permanent collection. I was fortunate enough to see the work of Lyndal Osborne, an australian who built wonderful sculptures and arrangements of found objects. Her arrangements expresses her apprehension of human encroachments on the natural environment, an apprehension that we can relate. Some of her arrangements are alien and familiar at the same time. They look like sea creatures or alien riparian vegetation. Really delighted on finding this gallery.

We visited the Nickle Galleries in July 2019. I wanted to see the Numismatics collection there. The location was a bit difficult to find, but it was quite an impressive exhibit once we did. The bottom floor is dedicated to artwork, which was interesting to view. The top floor was at least in part dedicated to numismatics. The coins were beautifully displayed and I could have easily spent many hours just in that section. There are lockers downstairs for use to store your items. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there and will return.

My first visit of the Nickel Galleries was 2019 for MFA student exhibition, and recently I had an exhibition there. This gallery is among the best, and the staffs are friendly, helpful and real professional.

When I visited, there were few exhibitions and the upper part was closed. But I had a good time and enjoy a lot the exhibitions. The staff was also nice. I made online booking before coming.

One of my favorite galleries in the city, my only wish is that it was open weekends!
