Nico’s lounge restaurant and bar in Nashville Tennessee is easily the worst and filthiest Nigerian restaurant I have been to in my life, bar none. Filthy, and they serve poorly made meals, some of them taste like they were merely warmed up with pieces of meat hastily boiled weeks ago dumped in the soup, like an afterthought. I am from out of town, i wanted to dine in. My order came in take away containers wrapped inside a plastic bag, wow. I asked why and the “waiter” who looked liked he’d not taken a bath in days told me that’s how they serve folks. I paid before my food came and included a tip, that was a mistake. No waiter attended to me once the food was dumped before me. The bathroom reeked, simply gross. I am surprised the department of health has not shut down the place. And expensive too. I did not want to embarrass them by simply walking out after tasting a bit of the poorly made pounded yam, I left and simply trashed my “ogbono” and pounded yam somewhere at a gas station, no time for nonsense. Please whatever you do, avoid this place like the plague, you might get sick from unsanitary and poorly made food. Out of five stars, I give zero stars. Highly unprofessional outfit!

THE ENVIRONMENT Quite big place that is setup more like a lounge/night club rather than a restaurant. The place could definitely use some organizing and maintenance. There are appliance cables hanging on the walls that need to be tucked away neatly. The appliances in the kitchen could use a some cleaning. Customers can see part of the kitchen through the order window and the first thing that catches your eye is the filth on the refrigerators.. THE FOOD / MENU Genuinely authentic Nigerian cuisine. I had Egusi & Eba (gari), the first night, which was very palatable. I enjoyed it. Second day I had Jollof & Goat meat. The goat meat was perfectly seasoned. However, as Ghanaian I tend to like Ghana Jollof over Nigerian Jollof..... This war over which country makes the best Jollof has been going on for decades. CUSTOMER SERVICE Absolutely poor. The lady in the kitchen is not friendly and seems uninviting. She needs to smile and look cheerful. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic Nigerian food. I give them 4 thumbs up.

AVOID THIS PLACE - Is there a zero star possibility for a food service??!? I arrived here to eat and waited for close to 25min, when I did not see anyone to wait on me, I approached the kitchen area to inquire their modus operandi, menu etc. A rude and lousy elderly lady shabbily told me there were people before me. I was a little confused, I had to restate that I was a new customer finding out how they operated. She dismissively barked at me to go sit down. While my guest and I waited another 45 mins for the food to be ready. She passed a snarky comment that we young folks want good food at American fast food speed. Soup was watery and tasteless, meat was not fresh. Felt like I begged for food. In my four decades of being on Mother Earth, across 4 continents I have been to, this is easily the most terrible food service I have experienced. Don’t waste your money, time and energy to go here, just go shop groceries and cook at home. Nonsense.
We decided to give this place a try, It was a complete disappointment. We ordered jollof rice with goat meat and whole fried tilapia with fried plantains. When the food arrived it looked fresh and hot like it was just prepared. When we bit in to the meat, it was cold on the inside. The jollof had no flavor. The food look good but didn’t have flavor, it lacked seasoning. The biggest let down was the fried tilapia fish I ordered. Everything was fine until I got to the middle of the fish where there was a pool of oil and blood. I found that the fish wasn’t cooked in the middle, so I took it back to the counter to show them. They argued with me and then finally decided to give me another order of fried fish, which was fried so long I couldn’t even eat the fish because it was so crunchy . It was so petty that I couldn’t even get mad, it was just a waste of time and money.
The first thing I noticed was the strange smell when we walked in. Eventually I got use to it. We were confused as to where to place orders but a lady called us to come towards the back. She seemed cordial in conversation but her face and body language said different. I made a joke about not liking the soup my husband order and laughed a little. She didn't even crack a smile. I work in customer service and take pride in making my customers feel welcomed so it was VERY different from what I define as Good Customer Service. There was one other couple eating when we arrived. We played ping pong while waiting for the food to be prepared. I will admit that the egusi soup was actually REALLY GOOD compared to what I had in the past.. Overall the food was good but I will definitely call my food in TO GO if we ever visit again.
1st African/Nigerian food experience!! Both were To-Go orders. FAITH helped me patiently describing things even while looking at the menu. I tried pounded yam with my soups: egusi (hen, beef, fish)& okra. WE also ordered jollof rice with chicken[too dry for me] & plantains, it was ok. I LATER returned prior closing to order MORE egusi, okra, bitter leaf & pepper soups with pounded yam to take home in AL..no meats in it this time I preferred it this way. I was surprised to be pulling out fish/bones from either my egusi or okra soup. Pepper soup had goat which was yummy, but not so spicy as I was told it would be. Bitter leaf..well the name said it all, but it tasted a bit burnt too. All together...I'LL BE BACK FOR MY FIX
I visited this place in search of fufu but was left disappointed with the overall experience. It seemed more suited for takeout rather than dining in, as the setup and ambiance were not conducive to a comfortable meal. The loud music further detracted from the dining experience. When the food arrived, it was excessively hot, almost to the point of being difficult to enjoy. Unfortunately, the fufu and rice didn't meet my expectations, as I've had better versions elsewhere. The beef was overcooked, resulting in a less-than-ideal texture, and I found myself unable to finish the soup.

This is definitely one of my worst experiences eating at a Nigerian restaurant in America. I was in Nashville, TN for a brief visit and looked up a Nigerian restuarant near me on google and found this place. Not only was their fufu and egusi disgusting; the lady who runs the place spoke so rudely when I asked her a question about a meal on their menu. I almost left without placing my order.. eventually when the food came, it tasted so bad that I barely ate.. I simply got up and left, feeling disappointed. In addition to this, the restaurant was so dirty and unkept. When next I’m in Nashville, I will surely not be coming back.

owner is always and very rude for absolutely no reason. i'm american and one of my Nigerian friend informed me of this lunge to get some food, i contacted them because online it states they do not close till 9pm. i called at 7pm to place my order for pickup and the owner or whoever that answered the phone was beyond disrespectful only because i asked if they were closed and she said yes and i said okay what time do you guys usually close and she said it's not my business and hing up in my face. i was very upset because this is my first time attempting to purchase from them and that customer service isn't going to get this restaurant anywhere . i will embrace as many people as i can about my experience
This was the most flavorless egusi I have ever had. I’m 4 months pregnant and was craving egusi and fufu while in Nashville. And this did not satisfy my craving. Idk if it’s typically cooked this way but it’s a no for me. And it has masking tape with “Egusi” written on it like it was in the refrigerator or freezer and they stuck it in the microwave which would explain a lot more because when I walked in I didn’t smell any food cooking. And the food has no flavor and was very watery. Go somewhere else if you can.

I've tried to call this place on several occasions to make sure they are open because their hours are unpredictable. They never answer the phone so I just stopped calling. I've never tried their food however based on the reviews... I think I'll pass. The only reason why the health dept haven't shut them down is because Nigerians are known for spiritually protecting their establishment using black magic and witchcraft with sacrifices. Eat at your own risk the food is even tainted with evil and wicked ingredients. They run their establishment like they're in Africa. This is America you can do better. That's not to say that some restaurants in Africa aren't upscale.
Highly Disappointed with what I received from this establishment. With prices as high as they are my expectations were just as high. I order egusi soup with chicken. Once I got home and opened my food there were two large boiled legs in what looked to be two spoonfuls of egusi soup. I cannot believe this is what they gave me for $17.00. Please don’t waste your time here. The egusi was watery and not flavorful at all. I normally don’t leave reviews but I have become sick and tired of these establishments taking my hard earned money in exchange for trash. Unacceptable!!!

I wanted to try Fufu soooooo bad that I stayed in traffic for an hour to get it. The FuFu was good (it taste like mash potatoes) but the Egusi did not have 1 bit of flavor. It taste like a can of turnip greens straight out of the can. The oxtails were tougher than what I've had before and did not have any flavor either. It was a coo experience but I would not spend $27 on it again.

Whoever is behind the phone is quite rude. I actually checked their menu for a particular item but it wasn't there. However, someone told me to call in because they serve the item. Called in to make an order to pick up. The lady said they don't sell only the item. I asked, "please what do you sell it with then?". She goes,"when you come in you'll see the menu". I could come in that's why I called to make an order in the first place? So people with disability that can't drive or go in are not catered to?! That's terrible. It will be nice to mention that on your web page if that's the case or better still upload a menu!!
So, I went to Nico’s Lounge 7/23/2022. It was kind of hard to find but it’s behind all the Hispanic shops in a white building. They don’t take phone orders, which is okay. They greeted us once inside. The space is really nice and clean. The food was piping HOT! The fish, the beef, the goat meat were all delicious! The food was seasoned to perfection. I had egusi stew and okra stew. The food is reasonably priced. I’ll be eating here probably every weekend. My cousin and I shared food & I didn’t take a picture but she did.

I called 7 times and no one answered. Drove over 40 mins at got there at 5:15pm on a Monday (12/23/19), and both doors were locked! Mind you I was visiting from out of state and this was the only West African restaurant within 50 mile radius. Why tf would you have your closing time on google as 8pm when you obviously close before then? False advertisement at its best! I could care less how good the food taste! If your customer service is trash, then it ain’t worth it! Y’all need to get your establishment in check before this unprofessional habit runs y’all out of business!!
The lady that works in the back is very rude. She acts like you are bothering her when you order food. She doesn’t greet with a smile or leave you with have a good day. Very snappy. And I have ordered the vegetable stew/soup many times before and it was always great so I overlooked her demeanor. However today you could tell that she just threw something together it was bland and didn’t have all the ingredients in it. I hate to do this review because like a stated before her food is normally good. However you can’t serve me bland food and have an attitude at the same time.
The woman who took my order abd served it was so sweet. And the food was great ! I got the okra chicken soup and fufu plate. Ive been wanting try it for so long but theres no places in southern oregon so i had to run to get some before leaving Nashville.

So first off I go here because the food is pretty decent. I plan on stopping though because you can see in the back when you order that they do not have any organized way to work their food. They leave boxes of patines on the floor and the floor is disgusting back there. service is terribly rude. They walk past you when you’re trying to order and will never greet you. It smells like old people in there. They don’t let you order over the phone let alone pick up the phone! So much is a problem

I visited Nico’s on 10/10/2020 and I had a great experience. The customer service was actually superb (the cashier was also the server Nikki, fair skinned super nice woman). My sister and I combined, ordered Jollof Rice with Beef stew and beans; Egusi Stew and pounded yam; Okra stew and pounded yam; and susu. Everything was delicious and hot. I’m from NYC and there are so many West African restaurants serving food from various countries. Nico’s is the only West African restaurant in Nashville and I truly appreciate it.
The atmosphere is really nice and the waitress greeted me from the moment I walked in. I had the okra soup, fufu and goat, it was really great! The portion sizes are large, I'll definitely go back.

Great service and food. Anyone who complains about this location simply doesn’t understand the culture. This is the only place in the Nashville metro area to get authentic Nigerian (West African) cuisine. I drove from east Nashville and arrived just after they opened (12n). Again, if you’re expecting the Americanized “chick-fil-a” like service then this may not be for you. But if you’re looking to explore and get an authentic taste of Nigeria then this will feel like home.

Food was amazing and filling. People that owned the establishment was so sweet and caring. Big portions of food for the price. I would definitely go back. I will have to warn you, unless you've been to this place or know this place, it can be a bit scary. It looks like an abandoned building even during operating hours. We have been here a few times and we still couldn't guess whether it was open or not and had to call to check. But it is worth it. Try it out!
The food is AMAZING. However, when I'm really craving the food from here, I will sometimes still choose to eat somewhere else. It takes FOREVER for it to be served. PLEASE hire more staff!!! There also should be the option to call in your order, order online, or GrubHub/door dash for delivery. They NEVER answer the phone. If it gets busy, they lock the doors during business hours.

I have their catered food on several occasions at various events but this was my first time in the restaurant. I had jollof rice, moin moin, fried plantain (dodo) and fish. My absolute favorite is always the moin-moin. It was well flavored and just the right firmness. The jollof rice was also good. Will be back for more

A very fine African/Nigerian restaurant in Nashville, TN, with authentic Nigerian cuisines. I enjoyed the Egusi soup with Fufu. The food was so delicious that my friends had to go back to their destination with a to go box of food. The owner is licensed too, so you will have no worry about your health concerns. Just let them know if you're allergic to certain foods, and you will get the best.

Great food. I've never had Nigerian food before and was surprised to find I could get it in Nashville, so I had to check this place out. The Jollof rice is great and addicting. I got the Jollof Rice and Goat. The goat was also very good. The goat was a tad dry, but being a leaner meat, that can happen sometimes. The flavor was exceptional though and I was quite sad when I saw I had eaten it all. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Very rude owner customer service is non-existent. Location is in the middle of no where and dirty. Bathroom is nasty. I gave the business 5 tries but they never disappoint on their rudeness. This area needs more competition. The owner Uche is so ridiculous and they should not be facing clients. Nasty owner Good food is what is keeping this place open. If they don’t change a good competition will steal the market.

Probably the most authentic ethnic restaurant in the city. Nico's reminds me of the African restaurants, the causal ambiance, patrons drinking beer or playing table tennis. The food is very unique and delicious. There are many options for vegetarians, and I highly recommend the moi moi. And try the fermented palm wine. The place is not on Nolensville, though, and first timers will be left confused.
This place is in a pretty...interesting location, and looks a little rough from the outside, but the food and service makes up for it. Food was delicious and lady taking our order was very helpful. The food took a very long time to come out but we believe it's because it is all cooked to order. Also, I'm pretty sure this is the only place around that does Nigerian food. I'm glad I tried it!
So this is definitely a hidden gem. The food was delicious. Service was good. It is randomly hidden and there are some serous potholes to maneuver around, but it was worth it.

I was born in Ogbomosho, Nigeria in 1957 and lived the first 8 years of my childhood there. One of the things I miss is good Nigerian food. Today I had Egusi soup with Fu Fu, along with some Moi Moi. Oh my was it delicious. If you are looking for fancy ambience, this is not your place, but if you are looking for good West African food, don't miss this little gem.
The owner of this business is a buzzkiller or mood killer or whatever you can term it as. The customer service is so poor, she tosses the menu at you with a frowned face and no cheerfulness. Have been to this restaurant twice, and it's the same attitude everytime. Place is quiet and dull like a graveyard. Food is absolutely great but the customer service is wack.
The food is awesome but they aren't very professional when it comes to their hours of operation. I've been twice and they were closed before the time that is listed on line. And when you aren't from the state and drive far just to get food from there that is very annoying and it wastes gas. Other than that they have great food and I would recommend for food.
This place serves old food stored in labeled containers and warms them up. Not fresh at all and the Egusi soup is flavorless. The people have attitudes and the food is extremely overpriced for the quality. They need a new cook who ain’t lazy and fresh food.

This place has the potential to be great but the management is very bad. They were suppose to close at 11 pm me and my girl we call at 9 pm and they were already closed!!! Are you kidding me??? not clean enough for a restaurant. the food is alright. My advice is don't rely on the hours they have here. Call them before you get there.
Horrible experience Bad manners, poor service and rude attitude!!! The jollof rice, plaintian and fish all tasteless!!! Worse experience ever!!! If public service isn't ur thing Mam pls stay home and baby sit ur grandkids! Folks if you have to eat here expect a war zone vibes! This was a total waste of my money. …
1) the waitress was rude and unprofessional 2) goat meat in egusi soup was delish. Servings were very small. Egusi soup, jellof rice were average. If you are Nigerian--do NOT eat here--wasting your $$. For non-Nigerians, this is okay

It was my first time here and I TRULY enjoyed it the food was outstanding 5stars hands down. I had the goat plantains and jollof rice AMAZING. Excellent portions more than I could eat in one setting I will be back and bringing friends and family.
I have been trying to go because everyone says the food is delicious. Every attempt I have made, they were closed unexpectedly. The last attempt was 2/17/22 at 5pm and they were closed when I called. I’m hoping that I get to taste the food soon.
I called at 12 in the afternoon and ask to put in a to go order the lady said they don’t take to go orders i would have to come in . I go to the restaurant at 12:50 and the doors locked. Just an overall terrible experience with this restaurant

Expensive food, rude lady behind the counter, and 5 pieces of plantains for $3. Go there but at your own risk. First time and it’s deff gonna be my last
The food was great, the Service was professional. There was plenty of parking and the inside is huge. You can actually rent it out for parties!!!

OMG.... This was my first time trying fufu and I was very skeptical about it but it’s sooooo good! I’m definitely coming back to try more.
Authentic Nigerian food. If you’re Nigerian and miss your mother’s cooking, please visit this place. And the price is very reasonable
Finally this area has something from Africa that I love. An original atmosphere

Their African food is superb, however the restaurant and the surrounding is not as appealing.
The jollof and plantain is as good as it looks in the pictures and the moi moi is heaven, lol
Great food. Pay attention to the location. It's actually behind a business on Nolensville rd
Nico's Nigerian restaurant is Nashville's best. Kept secret....My children and I loved it...
Very rude owner and customer service does not exist at Nico's. did not feel welcome at all
