I can't believe I've actually found a vet my girls like! You can tell the dr actually cares about his work and the staff genuinely enjoy coming to work every day. Maybe my dogs could sense the tension before but normally they don't even want to walk thru the doorway of the groomers/vet and I couldn't believe my Lilly let the dr touch her ears and she didn't flinch once! I just moved to the area and needed a same day appointment a couple of months ago. Since then we've gone back several times and I intend to come more often since he's so affordable and goes thru the price of each item while you're in the room (instead of being shocked at the counter after your appointment). And he works with me and my budget and tells me what needs to be done in order of priority which really puts me at ease. My father and ex husband dropped off and picked up our girls the first few times due to my work scheduled and I can't believe he knew who I was even before walking in the door. I've always been able to make same day appointments with Dr. Spellman even at 5pm they were able to get me in and didn't rush me at all. The dr actually showed me how to use the medication he prescribed and went over instructions step by step! He even asked simple questions about their diet and allergies and gave me advice on when to feed them etc. I'm so glad someone finally told me!! I was just going thru the motions for years not knowing how my girls could have had a better quality of life all the while! I'm so glad we found Dr Spellman and his staff. With everything going on in my busy life it's such a relief knowing my girls don't hate going to the vet now and it's very comforting knowing I can actually afford to take them.

As a new customer (moved from Round Rock and needed new Vet for my 4 year old Lab), I wanted to write a review. While scanning other reviews, I found this one from 1 year ago. It is spot on: "No nonsense, direct, and practical advice, treatment, and service. He could take out a mortgage to build a beautiful facility, etc. but why? To up his rates and be forced to up-sell you on every possible treatment, procedure, Rx, etc? No thanks. I'll take Dr. Spellman's practical advice for the great value he's offering. Glad we found him! Treated us with respect and handled our pets wonderfully during all visits. Thanks Doc." That sums up Dr. Spellman's service: Direct (he is a really nice guy, but serious when doing his work), "Old School" (paper and no computers means he listens and explains things to you), and Competent (he has done this a long time). I've been taking my pup here for a couple of years now. It is definitely a no-frills clinic but I don't feel like his care has suffered due to lack of tech/style. I have previously taken him to fancy vets with the newest Macs and trendy furniture and I feel like the quality of care is exactly the same here without the premium prices. I trust Dr. Spellman's experience and diagnoses. He always lays out the price points for different options and doesn't guilt trip you if you can't afford to get the works. This week I brought my 11 year-old shepherd in because he was crying in pain constantly and could barely walk. Dr. Spellman found he had a fever and treated him accordingly. I honestly thought it had to be something more based on how dramatic my pup was acting, but 3 days later he's back at 115%. Like, dude, dial it back a little. Senior dog is racing around my house like he pays his own vet bills. But I'm so glad he's doing better and, obviously, the vet knew best. Thank you!!!

I have been so happy with Dr. Spellman and the staff at North Lamar Veterinary Clinic. Our puppy ended up with us after his original family had to re-home him because their older family dog was extremely aggressive towards him. Because of the quick re-homing, Biscuit didn't come with any paperwork, so we immediately took him in to get his vaccines started. Dr. Spellman also found out that he had hookworm and treated him for that. Vaccines are now underway, and we've been in once for an emergency visit after Biscuit developed a belly rash and started vomiting. I have really appreciated that Dr. Spellman and the staff are so sweet to Biscuit, and that the pricing is both low and transparent. It has allowed me to budget for all of his vaccines, vitamins, and flea/heart worm medications. I have also never had to wait for my appointment time, even for same-day appointments. They are always ready for us when we get there!

Preface this with: my cat is VERY cat reactive and does not typically like the vet. I initially went here one year ago when we needed a new vet for routine vaccines after moving to Austin. I tried a different vet for a check up and she did not like that place at all - they gave me gabapentin that I would have to give her anytime we went back there, and then they claimed she had fleas and tried to sell us flea medication that we already give her! When it came time for vaccines again, I came back to North Lamar and my cat had no stress and 10 minutes later has already forgiven me for taking her to the vet. Really nice staff, doctor is to the point. They do not try to sell you unnecessary treatments. Definitely recommend if your cat has anxiety going to the vet. So happy to have a place I can take her where she feels comfortable.

Very happy to have found a place like this for my kitten. The doctor is very knowledgeable and handles our little baby very carefully. The rest of the staff has been amazing and nice, they seem more like a little family than a group of people working at a clinic. Very reasonably priced, and have been able to schedule same day appointments in cases of small emergencies. The doctor has a very 'Ron Swanson' feel to him, very direct in his approach, but you can tell he truly cares about his practice, pets, and pet owners. Shout out to his assistant (Sergio?) who is just as gentle and caring, and the wonderfully nice lady at the front desk with whom we shared each others cute kitten pictures with as my payment was being processed. If you're looking for a great local vet, I highly recommend trying out North Lamar Veterinary Clinic!

I've been coming to Dr. Spellman for over 4 years now and I could not be more happy. He has been the only veterinarian to be able to work with my 130lb Great Dane - Walter, who admittedly is a bit difficult to work with when it comes to meeting strangers. I've tried taking my pets (Great Dane + 2 cats) to a number of different clinics and all have complained or acted as if they've never worked with an anxious dog before. He and his staff are extremely patient and accommodating. Most importantly for me, Dr. Spellman has always been a refreshingly honest source of information on the best way to care for my pets, even in difficult circumstances. He speaks from experience and always makes great recommendations. On top of all of this, they are extremely affordable.

Finding a vet can be hard, especially being in a different state than where I grew up. The whole staff has made Kuma and me feel comfortable and heard. Not only are they very friendly and loving toward Kuma, they are also very professional and respectful and always give a confirmation call the day before (which is especially nice when we just had a snow storm!). In the first two weeks of having him i must have called half a dozen times, and i either got a helpful response right away or a call back very shortly after :) ... And above all take great care of Kuma when treating him, and now at 13 weeks old, he's super healthy and happy!

Doc, as always you have taken care of one of our sweethearts with great care and expertise!! When our sweet Pom needed a large tumor removed, Doc talked us through it, our options and then got him in quickly to get situation taken care of!! Options were also given for treatment and utmost care taken, as always, with our Beau!! We prayed and God Lead Doc in removing what ended up being a fist sized tumor and he has been healing nicely, thank God!! Thank you, once again, Dr. Spellman for doing what you do best and providing excellent care to another of our fur babies!! Thank you for your many years of help and care!!

First I'd like to thank everyone at North lamar veterinary clinic. My dog was recently involved in a fight with another dog I called them and they had him in to be seen with in the hour same day. Luckily there was no serious damage and was all mostly scratches. The doctor looked over my dog and gave us antibiotics and an ear solution to help prevent infection and even called me a day or 2 later to check up on my dogs progress. They are a very caring vet office and the price is unmatched and very affordable an fast. no long waits from over booking like most vets I've visited. All in all 10/10 experience every visit.

Our lil man, Wes Montgomery, has been getting check-ups since he was 3 months old. He is one healthy corgi thanks to the advice and care of Dr. Spellman and his supporting staff. The advice given is straight to the point with no prancing around the specifics and important facts. Sergio is also very warm and welcoming alongside Wes while administering shots and medicine with Dr. Spellman. Looking at all the antiques and photographs of other furry friends on his wall gives a feeling of years of experience and honest interest in caring for furry friends. Wes will be a longterm friend of Dr. Spellmans' office!

We recently moved back to this neighborhood after a 25 year absence, and needed a new vet. Decided to try North Lamar Vet based on good reviews here and NextDoor and am glad we did. My bluetick coonhound is getting up in years and had slowed down and gained a lot of weight. Dr. Spellman did some blood work and found he had a low thyroid. We got his meds adjusted and Elwood has lost weight and is back to his perky old self. The staff is super friendly and they always give you a choice of options for treatment. The picture is Elwood doing a run on the treadmill back in his younger days!

We needed a new vet after feeling very pressured to get a dangerous treatment for our senior dog and we’re so glad we stumbled upon this bet. Dr. Spellman was extremely upfront with everything, understanding, funny, and kind. Sergio (I believe that was the vet tech’s name) also handled our pup with great care. The receptionists are very friendly as well and got us in quite quickly. After going to a corporate location, we were very happy with the local small town feel this clinic has and it reminded me of my old one in upstate NY. We will be taking all future animals to this clinic.

I am so pleased with Dr. Spellman and his staff and my cats don't fear going to the vet at all!! My kitten just had her spay there and I was so nervous about the procedure, but she was completely fine and had a speedy recovery without any issues! I highly recommend the vet clinic of Dr. Spellman and his wonderful staff. I've been taking my new kitten there ever since she was found in a very sick and malnourished state a couple months ago. Spellman and every single member of his team have been so helpful and compassionate. Everyone at this office has a lot of heart and professionalism. I stumbled across this Vet clinic due to my poor Sweet Harper Girl getting an eye wound. Boy I'm glad I did!! They took the best care of our sweet girl when she was scared of her Dr's visit. Dr. Spellman has helped both of our cats tremendously! We adopted 2 former strays: One had terrible gingivitis (and dragon breath like you wouldn't believe). Dr. Spellman cleaned his teeth and extracted some that were beyond repair, and our cat has been much happier ever since, and has gained some much needed weight. Then, the other cat got a bad abscess. Dr. Spellman cleaned the wound, administered antibiotics, and Bob the Cat was obviously feeling better within just a few hours. Dr. Spellman and his team are the best, and I can't recommend them highly enough!

I love this place! The office feels homey and welcoming. Dr. Spellman is kind and understanding while also being practical and no nonsense at the same time. It's a winning combination in a vet. The techs and office staff are lovely as well and very helpful. They schedule appropriately so there's never a crowd, and so they manage to make the whole thing feel like almost like a bespoke experience just for you. Despite that the prices are very reasonable and no one there will try to upsell you for stuff you don't need. I really just can't recommend them enough!

After 3 different vet locations canceled my appointments for my 9 week old Shih Tzu for whatever reasons, I’m glad I came across Dr Spellmans clinic. It was so easy to get an appointment booked with him the day after. I loved how clean and friendly everyone in the office was. I was also seen right away. He let me know the prices of everything before hand. The prices were very reasonable. He handled my little Mia with care during examination and answered all questions I had. He also took the time to explain all medication options I could chose from.

This clinic is so much better than the one we were using. So far, we’ve had 3 appts. Each time they were ready for us so we didn’t have to wait, not even a second! They haven’t over-charged us, a rarity in ATX these days. The doctor is kind, knowledgeable, & calm -good for my dog! I had to bring my very loud & energetic 4 yr old son to our last visit. He had a hard time being quiet, (uh, he’s still loud as I write this!!) but they were all very patient & sweet to him. I feel lucky that we found this spot!

Dr. Spellman is the best out there. He takes immense proud of his job and takes great care of our dog. Surprisingly, our loves to go his office... weird right? He loves the Dr. staff. Our dog doesn't complains when the doc is examining him or whines when they vaccinated him. He truly is the dog whisperer. I'm really happy about the care our dog receives in this clinic and also happy how the doc and his staff treats us like we are family when we are there.

Dr. Spellman and his staff are beyond amazing. I literally walked in without an appointment because my cat was VERY ill. I had never been there before and they could have turned me away and said they had no openings. Instead, Dr. Spellman saw my cat and he is now completely healthy. The place I took my cat to the previous day tried to charge me $1500 and they were anything but compassionate. Dr. Spellman charged me 1/4 of that. I can't thank you enough.

We took our 3 large dogs there for the first time today. We loved Dr Spellman. He was willing to work with us to make sure we got the best service even though we were working with a budget and couldn’t do everything. The tech and receptionists were also wonderful with our dogs and us. They are a small clinic, and it was a great calm atmosphere for our dogs. The other vet gave us the run around and nothing help our dog. They were charging us a lot of money if anything it made our Bear worse. Dr Spellman saved our Bear from having to have surgery. This is a great veterinary clinic! I took my puppy here to get her shots and ticks resolved, but I was anxious about "fixing" my first dog ever. In the end it was a great decision. The doctor did an amazing job with her spay surgery and I was told by friends that what I paid was very reasonable. His assistants are awesome and obviously learning alot from him. The receptionist is also friendly. I will continue taking my pup here.

Dr. Spellman is a wonderful doctor with several decades of experience under his belt. My puppies felt very comfortable with him. He doesn't have the cold professionalism that younger vets might have. He's just open and sincere. His prices are on the higher end, however, and I'm not sure the value is justified. I would clarify beforehand with the office how much you will be expected to pay and then compare with other places.

This is the only vet I have used since moving to Austin a year ago. I take my cat here for all of his care needs. What I really appreciate about Dr. Spellman's office is how efficient it is. I like being able to make an appointment usually next day if it's urgent. I also enjoy being able to talk with Dr. Spellman over the phone directly if I have a question about at home care, or instructions. Highly recommend this place!

Dr. Spellman and his team did an amazing job with my puppy. They gave him his vaccinations so fast that my puppy didn’t even whine, and pet him the entire time to ensure he was comfortable and happy on the table. I am very also very happy with the way Dr. Spellman explained everything he was doing and everything my puppy needed. I will definitely be bringing my puppy back for anything he needs!

Highly recommend! My dog had been suffering from allergies and a skin infection for months, and our previous vet never managed to get it under control. When we came here everything that was recommended and prescribed worked perfectly and my dog is doing the best that he’s ever done! My dog is also extremely fearful and reactive at the vet and they were very accommodating with him!

We've been taking our puppy here since we got her and everything has been great. Appointments are easily made and the staff is wonderful. We needed to take her in last minute today due to a broken nail and I was able to get in right away to get her checked out. We are so incredibly grateful for Dr. Spellman and his team for taking time at the end of their day to treat our puppy.

I’ve been taking my cat to Dr. Spellman for about a year now. His staff is friendly and efficient. He is straightforward and really considerate of cost. He definitely doesn’t try to overprescribe things and lays out what every treatment will cost. He has a calmness that I think really just comes with years of experience that helps put me at ease when I’m worried about my cat.

I’ve been going to this clinic for the last 1.5 years. Everyone’s very nice there. Doctor Spellman is transparent around costs, patient with questions, and has a great sense of humor to boot. He’s been operating this clinic for 52 years and loves doing what he does. I just got my dog spayed there a week ago and the experience was really smooth, everything went perfectly.

Despite initial apprearances, Dr. Johnny is a friendly, intelligent veterinarian with technical expertise. He is well-liked by me. One suggestion would be to upgrade the clinic's website, if Dr. Johnny reads this review I would like to improve his vet's website upgraded. I'm new to the area and was looking for somewhere reasonably priced with exceptional care for my fur babies. Glad I went to this clinic and will use them for my pets care. They were able to see all 5 of my babies on the same day and were quick and efficient while also being thorough. Great doctor and staff with experience in providing the best care possible

We take our fur baby to this office. Today was the first time I met Dr. Spellman and he was very professional. Him and his staff were excellent with my high energy dog. We were in and out of the office very quickly which I greatly appreciated and he gave me very clear instructions for after care. Will absolutely continue taking my fur baby to his office!

We luckily found Dr. Spellman when looking for a reasonably priced spaying for our calico kittie, "Kemosabe the Killer Kat"! I have known Dr. Spellman since 1974.He took great care of both my German Shephards for several years. My wife and I left Austin for many years and returned to the area in 2019 and retired. Amazing experience here, one of my dogs had some gland issues, I called in and they had me in the next day. Took all of 15 mins in and out and my dog was feeling 100% better the next day! Great customer service, very helpful and fast and very up front about what needed to be done. Very much appreciate everyone there that helped!

Have visited twice with our 2 months old pup, and the staffs are great with phone call reminders! The vet is professional and funny! We have to fly with the pup in a month, and he made sure to make time for our pup to get all of her parvo vaccinations! Great experience and will continue going back with all future appointments!

Old school care at an affordable price. Doctor is the best and has helped my dog Toby through two bouts of HGE. He now has him on a special diet that has remedied the problem. They give you options and don't shame or pressure you when you can't afford the best option. Techs are sweet and helpful. My favorite vet in Austin.

I've been coming here for years. Doc has always taken good care of my pets, and he and his staff are always great! I actually think they enjoy Apollo and I when we visit, and are honestly concerned for his health and give several options for care. This is a brand new facility with a sizable waiting room (important when sitting with a nervous animal). The clinic is always busy, I'd mistake it for a train station if I didn't know better. This vet is awesome! Dr. Spellman is straightforward and super helpful. He has has been helping my fiancé and I with our new kitten! We got her shots and spayed here. I love that this place is affordable and low stress. The vet techs have also done a great job gently holding down and calming our skittish older cat.

Dr. Spellman is the *nicest* to my cat. He makes each visit as quick and painless for my little guy as possible while being gentle, thorough, and making sure all is well. I finally found a vet that I felt comfortable returning to with our boy, Legend! I appreciated that Dr. Spellman explained everything before he did it, and why he was doing it and allowed me to observe it all. The staff as a whole are top notch. I would recommend this clinic to absolutely anyone.

We have been taking our 18 week old Germans Shephard here for his shots. Dr. Spellman is very informative and great with our puppy. Visits are quick, the clinic is clean, and his staff are always very friendly. They answer any questions we may have when we are there and are very accommodating!

Fantastic experience! Not only do I appreciate that their pricing is listed online, Dr. Spellman is super easy to work with and is transparent with you. Their staff was super friendly, professional and had all 3 of our animals fully taken care of in less than an hour!

When I found an abandoned puppy they were able to squeeze me in on short notice. They took great care of my pup and got him all hits shots and meds. Highly recommend if you're needing a vet! Great vet with a great sense of humor and a very friendly helpful staff.

Recently took my puppy Arlo here really loved it! Arlo is my first dog and I’ve had a hard time finding a vet I trust! Doctor Spellman and his team are awesome! They remind of the vet that I grew up taking our family pets to! We are definitely going back.

My pup and I had a great first experience here. Dr. Spellman was very reassuring and smooth with my pup. On top of that, he didn’t charge for a UV Light test (which runs for $55), so I am very grateful for that and will definitely be returning!

Been bringing our two very large dogs here for years. We have always had good experiences. One of our dogs had serious aggression issues, and they were very good at making the visits work safely and with as little trauma as possible.

We've had his annual checkup and vaccinations here two years in a row, it has been a great experience. The vet and staff are nice and helpful. It is a quiet office, which our anxious dog appreciates. We will be back again next year.

Dr. Spellman and his staff are very experienced and I trust them with my dog, Sadie! Sadie has anxiety no matter what clinic she goes to, so I appreciate that they are always quick and efficient, but also gentle and kind with her.

Very friendly front desk each time! I will say it only has 2 rooms so it is not a place you can board, nor do they have X-Rays as far as i know. Other than that, it’s a great vet clinic and all you need!
