Has all the library things: Tables, books, lovely staff, computers, movies, music and different areas for teens, children and those that are studying. Problem being that acoustically this place has a lot of architectural issues. The whole place is brick, with vaulted ceilings and there are no real separations between spaces to help contain noise. One kid having fun at the back of the building translates into voluminous echoes of terodactyl proportions across the entire building. I mean all the crannies and nooks. There are plenty of people saying this place sucks for study and focused work. They are not wrong. Though the building contributes to this far more than the staff. Because of the pterodactyl tremors then it seems everyone else speaks more loudly, people are less concerned to be on their phones and the great sound spiral continues. Needs a refit, rebuild and restoration. Perhaps a seperate section for kids that is enclosed is a big start. Lots of potential to be truly multi functional. At this present stage it is mainly for the kids. Have fun and go to Ivanhoe is you really want to study.

Staff are lovely and very helpful. However I wouldn't recommend this as a place for quiet reading or studying. It is more of a community centre than a library. In two hours I was disrupted by three people taking calls on their phones. Nobody here has an 'inside voice' and has little consideration for the people around them. A library is mean't to be a quiet place, this library sounds like a kindergarten playground!

Great local library. What could be just a rather standard library affair but Northcote Library offers a range of areas to read, write or even arrange meeting with dedicated meeting rooms and office like off areas. This creates a functional space that is conducive to productivity. Whether you are trying to study for exams or simply need a quiet place to read this library has you covered. 5 stars

Handy location with plentiful parking across the road at the Northcote plaza. A number of pc's available for public use in 1 hour blocks. Wi-Fi is also available for free so you can bring your laptop in and work away. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. The only negative is that in over 10 years, there have been no upgrades to the premises or book layout, feels a bit stale.

staff was unkind and rude. Spoke to a wonderful assistant one day to reserve a book and the next day another assistant was snarky and disrespectful. Not a library for young people which is unfortunate because the location is so convenient next to the bus stop. I will never return.

It's a good library but just anarchy. Schoolkids chattering like there's a party, people on their phones & the staff do nothing as if they were raised he same way. Loudest library I've ever been in. Perhaps gone are the days libraries were a place you could read in quiet.

The staff were incredibly helpful in setting me up with a new account and showing me around. The library is large and airy with a decent selection of books. Some computers and laptops can be used and a printer/scanner/photocopier. I hope to use this service regularly.

Medium sized library, larger than the Fairfield branch, but smaller than the Preston library. Nice quiet study area with power points for charging mobile phones. Computers can also be booked for 1 hour slots maximum per day. Also has a good range of DVDs

Really great library with some of the latest fiction releases and a great children’s area. The staff are very helpful and kind. The only issue is the toilets which aren’t always in great condition, so I have knocked off 1 star for that.

I love this place. A huge selection of books. Very peaceful atmosphere. I come here every weekend with my 9y old boy. He always finds a good book to read and also a good collection of kids Dvd. A five star from my side …

Loudest library I’ve ever been in. People chatting amongst themselves as well as staff. Tried to read out loud to drown them out but still couldn’t hear myself . Absolute joke

  • Dalia M

Amazing there was such a big section for everything. My daughter decided to try this challenge that makes her read 10 books, 2 at a time and she loves it. Amazing atmosphere

Good place to concentrate when studying. WiFi is ok, need to get the password because it changes every day. Can get busy when exams are on and noisy during school holidays.

  • Nicholas Wolf

Staff are really friendly, great collection, cosy atmosphere, and as a local I find this place to have a great community spirit! such an important public service

Staff was fab. New library card, lots of info re local community, great vibe inside the library - it's alive with happy people. Lots of chairs to sit & read in.

Very nice place, calm, friendly people, a lot of good books. Especially like to take my son there, they have quite a few good children's books and DVDs.

  • Brian O'Hagan

Don't drive here with children or frail people as the only parking is across a busy street and down a steep incline in a shopping centre car park

  • ZOEY

Very noisy place. I understand it’s a community library, but it should be divided into several reading areas for different types of needs.

Lady on the phone was rude and short with me. It's a stressful time but pretty reasonable for people to call and ask about opening plans.

  • S Harris-Smith

Really helpful staff. I enjoyed being able to do my work there and my child enjoyed the large selection of graphic novels to borrow.
