Prepare to have your senses taken on an unforgettable journey! The moment I crossed the threshold of this hidden gem in Ottawa, my world was transformed into a magical wonderland of tantalizing tastes and heartwarming hospitality. Stepping into the Orange Turtle bakery, I was greeted by the divine aroma of freshly ground espresso beans, beckoning me to experience their renowned cappuccino. Oh, what an ethereal elixir it was! With each sip, the world seemed to slow down as the velvety coffee danced upon my palate, a melody of flavors that awakened my senses with every pull. And then came the scones, oh, those scones! The cheddar chive scone was a revelation of taste and texture. The sharp tang of cheddar blended harmoniously with the subtle notes of fresh chives, resulting in an explosion of savory delight that left me utterly spellbound. The scone itself was a divine creation, with a crumb so delicate and buttery it could rival the most exquisite pastries in the world. But the magic didn't stop there! The blueberry almond scone, an edible masterpiece, boasted plump, juicy blueberries like precious gems embedded within its tender embrace. As I took the first bite, the world around me blurred into the background, and all that remained was the delicate symphony of sweet blueberry bliss, delightful almond notes, and a graceful crunch of sugar coating to boot. Yet, amidst all these culinary enchantments, the real star of the show was the local owner and baker. His warmth and attentiveness was wrapped me in a blanket of genuine care and made me feel like royalty in his gastronomic kingdom. Every recommendation was spot-on, and he seemed to anticipate my every need, adding an extra layer of enchantment to the entire experience. In the midst of this ambiance, I felt like I had stepped into a tale from a storybook, where every flavor, every sip, and every smile was meticulously crafted to weave a magical narrative that captured my heart. The Orange Turtle is a treasure trove of delights, a haven for the discerning palate seeking extraordinary experiences. If you find yourself in Ottawa, do not deny yourself the chance to bask in this feast of flavors and hospitality. Your taste buds will sing, your heart will dance, and you'll leave with memories that will linger, calling you back to this culinary paradise time and time again.

I stopped by the Orange Turtle Bakery this summer while visiting relatives in Ottawa from DC, as I was interested in trying out some of the new eateries in the market. I'm so glad I stopped by this bakery/cafe - it's an absolute gem. It was a little difficult to tell if they're open, as there's a tarp covering a part of the window, but make your way inside, and you'll be greeted by the smell of delicious coffee and baked treats. As I was perusing the display case, Maged (the owner), offered me and another first-time customer a sample of a super delicious homemade lemonade. It was fresh, subtly sweet, and so refreshing. I don't think it's on the menu, but I hope it makes it on there sometime before the summer season's over. It was hard to choose what to get, but I opted for a spiced loaf that was decadently moist and generously studded with an assortment of dried fruits. It was like a grown-up, sophisticated take on a fruit cake, and is something I've been craving since I tried it. I paired it with a cup of decaf espresso - no exaggeration, the best I've tried, and wherever I can get a decaf espresso (including Naples!) , I'll get it. I also went for a yummy pistachio and orange blossom (I think that's what I was tasting) shortbread cookie that was also so, so good. Since I'm an unabashed glutton, I also picked up some scones to take home. The owner recommended I warm them in the oven, which I did, and they were awesome even days later. I can't wait to come back this Christmas on my next visit to Ottawa. I may even be willing to share them with friends and family this time....but don't quote me!

I've tried two cookies and several kinds of scone (pumpkin, mango, onion/feta/oregano, cinnamon/ginger/currants) and they were all delicious. Owner is friendly and helpful. Gluten-free items available. I'm often disappointed by bakery cookies and of course gluten-free items are tricky. The gluten-free cookie with apricots with chocolate drizzle was one of the best cookies I've had (and we're not just talking in the gluten-free category).

As a turtle pet owner, I was first attracted by the name of this bakery, and convinced by the high reviews to pay a visit. It did not disappoint. I ordered the pistachio fig cookie with Moroccan mint tea. One little bite lifted my mood instantly. It was chewy and soft, full of authentic pistachio flavor, has aroma of almond (I think), and just the right amount of sweetness. This cookie is sophisticated. I am normally not a cookie person but I loved it. This shop is amazing!!! Come for a visit if you happen to be nearby.

Found this little hidden gem by sheer coincidence. Everyone should stop by every so often and try out the different products, because every single one is absolutely delicious and you can taste the care and precision baked into all the different scones, loaves, cookies and all else. And, if that wasn't enough, the owner is one of the most interesting people I have ever met - there hasn't been a single time at the Orange Turtle when a new interesting fact or curiosity was not discussed. I could never recommend The Orange Turtle Bakery enough!

Bravo! Je recommande chaudement!

This cafe was 2 buildings away from our hotel. We came over in the morning for coffee and a snack. We tried the cheddar chives, the lemon loaf and the apricot and fig loaf. All very delicious and fresh. The coffee is good as well! We came back each day we were in Ottawa. The owner is really sweet and helpful. Loves to share his new creations and talk about his bakery and baked goods. He is practicing new items so is baking mon - thurs and the bakery is open Fri - sun from 8-5. Keep an eye out for his new offerings!

Excellent bakery, fully local, but with an international twist that makes the flavour of pastries different and delicious. We had a bit of everything, scone, shortbread, brownie, banana bread, you name it, you can't go wrong with any choice. If you want to experience amazing baked goods, this is definitely THE place to visit in Ottawa! As a bonus, we had a super interesting conversation with the owner, who is super friendly and welcoming. We'll most definitely be back!

Because they’re new they open only Fri Sat Sun, which I didn’t know. But I needed some cookies as gift for a friend on Monday and wanted to try this place so I called the number - I think the owner picked up the phone and actually offered to open on Monday at a time that is convenient for me. I don’t have a sweet tooth so cannot vouch for the cookies but my friends loved them. Once the hours are more regular I will want to come back for tea, and savory stuff

  • Kas Bar

Absolutely phenomenal niche bakery ! 5 yummy stars for me!!! The short bread is beautiful, and the gluten free cookie I had blew me away…it was perfectly sweet (not too much) moist chewy , crisp….it hit all the marks of a perfect cookie. I will definitely be back! I highly recommend… they are only open a few days a week but it speaks to their quality as they spend the time closed perfecting recipes!!!

This bakery is amazing! Definitely my new favorite in Ottawa. The scones were beyond delicious (maybe the best I’ve ever had), the brownie was so decadent (best shared), and the coffees were perfect. Owner is so passionate and talented & he seems to be always trying new things. It’s right on the edge of the Market and definitely worth a stop (free parking right on the street). Can’t wait to go back!

  • Ziad Aly

Owner is super friendly, Pistachio and apricot Shortbreads and Fudge are super delicious, Banana bread with chocolate bits was very yummy and the Fig and nuts bread extremely delicious. The balance between sweetness and flour is the best tasted around the city. All products are very new and can't be found elsewhere! I will definitely become a regular client from now on. The parking also is free

  • Veronique Joly

Simply the best scones in town in the nicest little bakery. You must try them. You walk in and it feels like you’re in a friend’s kitchen. No need to hurry. And there is more to try in terms of cookies, some gluten free, and cakes. Les meilleurs scones, les vrais, en ville. Petite boulangerie qui se distingue par l’accueil et la qualité maison des produits. Félicitations!

  • Dini Kodippili

We visited this Cafe today and loved it! I had a cheese and chive scone and my husband had the blueberry almond scone, along with some coffee. Both scones were delicious, but we agreed that the cheese and chive was our favorite. It's a small cafe with such a great feel! So friendly and great service! Will definitely come back when we're in the city again!

  • Jason Forbes

Been going here since just after it opened as it is less than a block from my office. While I tend to order the same thing (I'm picky), the entire display is mouth watering. I recommend it to all my co-workers and just about everyone else I talk to where the conversation turns to deserts. If you're looking to try a new bakery, this is the place.

  • Jeff Peacock

Delicious baked goods, especially the scones were fantastic! They rotate scone flavors regularly and had some unique flavor combinations that were very tasty and worth checking out. It's a little out of the way if you are in the market, but definitely worth a detour. The owner was very friendly and they take care and pride in their products.

  • Dave Amyot

I'm not much of a shortbread person but this was excellent. First time trying this bakery, sampled 8 items. All were good. Scones were excellent ;savoury cheese and chive , cranberry and white chocolate. Both cookies were perfect; German ginger and morning glory kind. Great little shop that is worth the stop.

  • N Fumerton

Everything we got was delicious!!! Pistachio fig cookies, had to go back for more!! Brownies, sinfully rich and delicious! Double chocolate banana loaf disappeared down my husbands throat to fast for me to get a taste, he said YUM Owner very friendly and helpful. Go there, you will not be disappointed!

  • Ginette Morley

I just had the best savoury scone I have EVER had from Orange Turtle. Crispy outside, so fluffy 8ns8de, intensely flavoured. The owner is friendly and happy to discuss new flavours and appreciates input from customers. I literally stumbled on to the place, but I assure you, I will be back! A lot!!!

  • Freida Hjartarson

I love sitting down to a cup of brewed coffee, sometimes mint tea, and gazing out over a view of the lower town cityscape all the while enjoying a peanut chocolate cookie or a delicious but decadent brownie. And sometimes I bite into one of the various delicious scones. Lots to enjoy here!

  • Frances Zsurka

Very tasty pastries that impressed my guests. I don't have much of a sweet tooth so most of the ones I tried were too sweet for me. But the orange-cranberry scone was perfect. And it had a really lovely texture: crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, complex and flavourful throughout.

  • Shuyu Hong

A lovely hidden gem at downtown area with a welcoming atomosphere. The owner is very passionate and attentive to the quality of the products and services. Delicious scones and short bread. A lot of gluten free options as well. Will definitely come back to try more different items.

  • Jocelyn Hanna

My boyfriend and I popped by, just after closing this evening. We were let in, and had a lovely chat with the owner. The variety of options and flavour combinations was quite impressive. I loved how attuned to the clientele he is, with the House Rules. We're coming back, for sure!

  • Lynn Harnden

The bakery products made by Orange Turtle are extraordinary. The shortbreads have unique ingredients. The chocolate brownie is sublime. Gluten free options offer no compromise on flavour or texture. Highly recommend.
