My initial encounter with OTF in Slabtown was unfortunately quite disappointing. As someone who typically looks forward to workout classes as a source of positivity and inclusivity, I was disheartened by my experience here. Having recently moved to Portland, I was on the hunt for a workout community that aligned with my preferences. To explore my options, I've been utilizing the first-time free passes for various workout classes. However, my visit to this OTF location did not align with those expectations. Right from the start, the receptionist asked if I was familiar with their classes. I explained my prior experience with OTF back in Cleveland and my interest in trying this location now that I'm in Portland. To my surprise, I learned that this practice wasn't allowed, which is my mistake . However, this policy seemed peculiar, especially since other studios like YogaSix, Corepower Yoga, Barre3, and Barry's in other cities had no issues with welcoming newcomers like me to their trial sessions in Portland. What truly baffled me was that, despite the receptionist knowing I had taken OTF classes before, she didn't mention the post-session charge ($$$) for my visit. This lack of transparency struck me as unprofessional and a bit disrespectful. Instead of addressing the matter upfront, I was charged with no explanation a couple hours afterwards, leaving me with shock. The studio has no insight into my budget. It felt unjust for them to impose a charge for a class that was advertised as free, particularly when they were unaware of my financial circumstances and didn’t mention in person that they would charge me. To me, workout classes can often feel quite intimidating. I told the staff that I did not feel quite comfortable wearing the heart rate monitor and I would enjoy class more without it. Much to my surprise, I was informed that wearing the monitor was a REQUIREMENT for first time participants. Likewise, I was told that I HAD to stay after class to interpret my results. I unfortunately couldn’t stay because I had work.. They said I would have to stay for at least 5 minutes. These mandates caught me off guard, however, I still respected both comments and wore the monitor, and stayed after stretching to talk to the instructor about the stats. The instructor was avoidant and I could tell she was already upset with me, so she said “so are you good, any questions?” I kindly said no and thank you for the class. I was the last to leave the class. Following this less-than-pleasant experience, I contacted OTF regarding the charge on my card. The man on the phone (who I had not met) explained that not only was I charged for participating in two classes, which was not allowed, but also for "running away after class" and being "rude" to the receptionist. Both of these accusations were far from the truth and definitely taken out of context when passed by word to this man on the phone. The man was extremely passive aggressive to me. I told him I would write a review based on all of this and he aggressively said “have fun doing that” The attitude he gave towards a customer was beyond disrespectful and unprofessional. The unprofessional conduct, passive-aggressive behavior of the manager, and unauthorized charges have completely ruined my experience with signing up for any Orange Theory class in the future. It’s unfortunate because the format of these workout is exactly what I like, but because of these encounters, I am compelled to avoid attending altogether. I truly hope someone considers this review seriously and addresses these issues with their staff, as subjecting anyone to such an unpleasant environment is unwarranted.
I used to be a religious OTF Slabtown attendee and founding member in Portland @Lloyd (avg 5 times per week pre-covid). When covid hit, I put my account on hold opting for at home workouts and continued to extend the hold as covid was/has been impactful in my decision to avoid group indoor workouts for health and safety reasons. Advice: be careful and aware of billing cycles and hold, make sure you have everything in writing on paper or email. Without communicating to me or my knowledge, OTF Slabtown took my account off hold and charged me $300 over the last 2 months. Don't love paying $300 for zero workouts, especially during the holidays. I tried to communicate this to them and ask for a refund. Had the manager taken the time to listen to my personal customer feedback, instead of arguing with me and telling me I was wrong over the phone, this review would be a much different one. Full transparency, I do adore HC Ryan at Slabtown, and he runs a great workout, but sad to say, they lost a lifelong customer in me today (a customer worth almost $10K to OTF over the last 6 years). I'll be taking my money elsewhere for group fitness in the future.
I love OTF and Slabtown is a solid spot. Front desk to coaches are great to have around as a support system when you constantly want to improve yourself. I recognize that this style of workout may not be for everyone but it's definitely changed the way I look at fitness and how it affects my daily life. I took the free trial class at the end of July and started my membership in August and it was the best decision I made for myself. I remember one of the coaches saying that 4 classes a week was "the sweet spot" so I took a leap of faith and upgraded from 8 classes a month to the unlimited membership. This is when changes really started to show and my commitment to fitness truly elevated and I am never looking back because this is my community now. The best thing to remember is that you can choose your path to fitness and how you want to make a better version of yourself every day no matter how much you pay or what gym/studio you go to. What OTF has provided me is the motivation and support that I needed at the time to start reaching my fitness goals. Take the free class, give it a go and see for yourself. You won't regret it :)
OTF Slabtown deserves ten stars. Great workouts that are always changing, so you never get bored and the time flies. Super friendly, helpful staff who take great care of the space. Tons of classes, to fit any schedule. Great methodology that really works, with technology that shows you your progress and results-- something that's really helped me stay focused and motivated during classes and understand how I'm doing afterward. All of that adds up to a serious game changer, in terms of fitness and commitment for me, and I couldn't be more grateful this studio. But honestly, the best part of OTF Slabtown is the remarkable coaches who are all such wonderful humans. They love coaching and you can tell this isn't just a job for them, but a passion. And that energy is insanely motivating. It's like having a personal trainer right there with you, coaching you the whole way, rooting for you, pushing you harder, with great music and a super supportive community. I honestly can't say enough great things about Orangetheory Fitness, but the Slabtown location is special.
Their customer service is garbage and there is no means of managing your account online or through their app. I requested they cancel my membership over two months ago and yet they are still charging me. Time to dispute some charges, I guess. Originally I just wanted to pause my account while I was going to be out of the country for a while. But then I found they offer no account management options—which is very annoying. I mean, what is this, the 90's? I just don't see how any modern-day company can justify not offering such a minimal feature. I just wanted to cut ties with them. They don't seem interested in making that easy which I think validates my decision. Ugh... Why can't business just be decent? UPDATE: I've exchanges numerous emails with your global customer service and tried to contact you by the email... and here we are, three months later, still dealing with something that should be so simple. Why do you make it such a pain to cancel a membership?
As a former staff of Orangetheory Fitness in multiple cities, this is by far the worst studio I have attended. The front desk staff is unresponsive. I have both called the studio and texted before, and never heard back either way. They also rarely raise their heads when members are walking in or speak to them creating a hostile environment. Additionally, when taking a class from the HEAD COACH of this studio, we were delivered an incorrect workout. On the 2000m row benchmark, besides not receiving the adapted warm-up, we also never got to switch to the second block. Instead, we were informed that the VVA was incorrect and we would be repeating the same movements for the remainder of class time, without a finisher. Talk about lazy! Again, as former staff, I am well aware of how a class should be run. Very disappointed as this studio.
Orange Theory, and most specifically the Slabtown location, are my home away from home. They enable me to live my very best and healthy life, they have built a community that is strong, like-minded, encouraging and truly life changing. I tell the staff there all of the time, but OTF was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I shout it from the rooftops continuously. It is obviously a great workout, but at this point (#600 classes deep) it's also a great mental break from work and allows me a full hour to focus on me so I can be the best version of myself at work, with my family, friends, and everything in between. Coach RyRy - you're fabulous. Please, never ever change. You have built a strong team that gets better over time. CHEST Proud!! :)
I would not recommend this studio. I cancelled back in October and continued to be billed. When I asked for a refund it took multiple calls and emails, many of which were completely ignored. Two weeks later, I was refunded partially and not for the full amount of time that they continued to bill me. This studio only cares about you if you are a member. If you aren’t, they don’t treat you well. I also had a trainer here look up my number in the system, text me - commenting on my body and asking me repeatedly if I was single/had a boyfriend. Completely inappropriate and I felt very uncomfortable around that person when my goal was to just be able to work out. Definitely go elsewhere!
OMFG! This place is incredible!!! Everyone here is so kind and welcoming (thank you RyRy + Team Slabtown). The free Intro Class that I took (3G!) was one of their standard classes that included some time in the 3 main areas: Rower + Floor + Treadmill I was definitely feeling it by the halfway point, but then those sweet endorphins kicked in and I was on Hyper Drive! I’m so grateful this place exists and the prices are almost unbelievably reasonable. Love your body? Want to live longer and feel better every day? Give Orange Theory a try! What do you have to lose ….?
Best coaches and staff! Rylee has been my favorite coach since I started orange theory over a year and a half ago! She is so inspiring to get me through tough workouts and has had such a positive impact on my life in and out of the studio. Lauren’s classes are tons of fun and she does such a great job encouraging me to push myself. Plus, her Saturday morning playlists are fire. Xavier is always so friendly and welcoming when I arrive to the studio. Couldn’t recommend this place more to my friends and family. Best community in Portland hands down.
Finally a program that I feel will motivate me and keep me going- From the moment you walk in the doors you feel very welcome- the staff is so kind and assuring. The trainer Will(several other amazing trainers as well) is amazing and even with a room full he still makes you feel like you are getting his full attention- from the lighting, music, and did I mention the board so you can see your progress in real time which for me as someone who Is progress minded it is perfect- So try it out I’m sure you will love it- for me it’s a 5 Star workout-
They literally will not stop calling after atleast 7-8 times asking them to put me on their do not call list. I went to one trial class a year and a half ago then joined a different gym that better met my needs. Seriously getting beyond annoying that they continue to call me over and over then I get the same response "oh they did not put that down on your file, ill be sure to add that you would not like to be called." .... few weeks later "Hey, this is ________ from Orange Theory Fitness Slabtown..."
Love the enthusiasm of the coaches and the constant motivation. As a trainer I love that every class has a different focus and goal, and the exercises vary to prevent plateaus. By using technology, OTF gives a measured and calculated way to gauge progress.I do wish that the desk would monitor how many cards a person takes though since I have observed people will take an extra so they can have the rower or treadmill next to their friends. But if that's my only complaint, that's not a bad one at all.
This is a really good OTF. I only lived in Slabtown for about 6 months. I have been to a handful of OTFs since then, and this is still my favorite. I finally just transferred my membership to a new location. If you don't know, transferring your membership with OrangeTheory is kind of a PITA. However, Xavier (the gym manager here) was amazingly helpful. I feel like he really went above and beyond to help someone who was -leaving- his gym. Slabtown OTF is worth your money.
The workouts continue to motivate you from start to finish. You get to track how you are doing in class. The coaches provide the energy, knowledge, and encouragement that leads to a successful workout. I have not had one coach I haven’t liked, they are all incredible! The other individuals in class are also great at motivating one another throughout the session. OTF actually makes working out fun! After holiday travel, I plan to go unlimited...that’s how much I enjoy it!
Besides loving Orange Theory workouts in general, I loved the layout of the Slabtown studio. Granted, we didn’t have a full class (730a), but it just seemed to flow. Derek was amazing - encouraging and funny but also serious and vulnerable, opening up about his fitness journey. It’s nice sometimes to remember why you start and what drives you each day. Will definitely be back (once I can feel my legs ).
RyRy and OT have redefined what workouts should be to me. Struggled to stay fit through Covid and dropped by for a session on a whim. The workouts are NOT easy, but it's a zero pressure environment and everyone works out on their own level. Playlists are great, and the entire crew is friendly and very helpful to explain the process to a newbie. Clean facility and easy to use app. 10/10.
I love the diversity and intensity of the workouts. I always feel like my whole body is worked well without over doing anything and I love the upbeat music and coaching! The entire Slabtown staff is amazing and all the coaches are great but Nate is my favorite! Motivating, encouraging and hilarious, he’ll keep you working and laughing right till the end. Thank you Slabtown!
It’s an effective fullbody workout that includes variety in cardio and strength training. Set to upbeat music, motivating teachers and a fun group setting. The facilities are clean and modern and staff are always friendly and helpful. Ryan (Slabtown Portland) is my favorite instructor of all time! He is fun, personable and motivating in an authentic and positive way.
This is by far the best orange theory studio. I’ve been to numerous studios In the area and even the U.S but the staff is what makes this place the best. From the front desk girls to the trainers this is truly home and nothing compares to it. Thank you Slabtown for being so professional and so accepting. Truly means the most! My home <3
There's a lot to love about OTF Slabtown. I love the variety of the workouts, how I feel when I finish, and, most of all, I love our coaches! Each brings a little something special to our sessions and it's so nice to have that layer of accountability and support. I feel good, look good, and I tell anyone who'll listen how great OTF is.
Best OTF studio in the world! The coaches and front desk staff are welcoming, encouraging, and fun. In addition to the great environment, the workout is challenging but doable for all levels - modifications abound and the coaches and the tech help you figure out how to level up from wherever you are. Love love love OTF Slabtown!
Love this location (though I really haven't encountered a location or coach that I didn't like at any OTF). It's close to downtown but, parking is a little better if you are driving. They are adding classes soon so, that is exciting because classes fill up like CRAZY! Definitely book in advance here.
I love that they are always different and how I feel afterwards. Some days I might be crawling out of there but I always feel great. The coaches really know how to keep the energy up and keep you motivated. Also, management and front desk staff are always helpful and welcoming! Love OT Slabtown!
LOOOOVE the workouts.I have signed up for a membership that I aim to last a lifetime.I love the style of workout + I love that they are different each day and never repeat; I love the community atmosphere and everyone, clients and employees, are nice, helpful and supportive.
I love OTF Slabtown! The staff have always been incredibly nice and friendly. Whenever I've need to pause my membership, they have always been super communicative and explain the whole process very clearly. RyRy and the other coaches are such gems and make the workouts fun!
I love Orange Theory! This studio is so motivating and the front desk staff is also very nice. Sometimes, the music is too loud though where I feel the need to use earplugs or avoid being near the speakers, but this has gotten better recently.
Slabtown OT is the best studio of all the ones I’ve been too — from Orlando to Redding and several in Oregon - coach RyRy and the studio itself is #1 ! Slabtown has the team that gives 110% and you’ll leave even after one class , family!!
I have visited a few Orangetheory studios, but Slabtown is by far my favorite. The staff takes a sincere interest in you, plus Coach RyRy has you laughing through the workouts. I highly recommend visiting Orangetheory Slabtown. I've
Slabtown Orange Theory is the best! Coaches are top notch, and really personal -they care! A great balance of pushing us to be our best selves and guidance. I love going to my classes and growing to someday like rowing :).
Friendly staff that aren’t intimidating or threatening in any way! Great for all levels of fitness. Each workout is completely different and challenges you every time to enter the gym. Love this place, highly reccomend!
Each workout is always fun and different. I love the loud music and individual style of each trainer! The support from your fellow OT members and trainers is invaluable and keeps me motivated to come back.
Great studio! You’re able to track your progress on the big board and on your treadmill screen. Workouts are tough but you feel SO good after. Plus I love just being told what to do for an hour. :)
Really like this gym. I need people to yell at me when I work out. Would give five stars except some of the treads don’t have working displays and the music gets old it’s always the same 40 tracks…
I have been doing Orangetheory for almost a year now and started at this studio when it opened up. I love the coaches, the studio is always clean, and the workouts are amazing. I highly recommend!
Derek is such a fun and encouraging coach! He's the only one I've taken classes with at this location so far. I also appreciate how spacious this studio feels. Worth checking out.
The high intensity is broken up into manageable blocks that really push me to reach my goals. Plus, the coaches are the best! Shout out to Coaches Melanie and Ryan at Slabtown!
If I could sum this place up with two words it would be “motivational rave”. It has been a great community to begin a healthy lifestyle since Covid. Shout out to coach RyRy!
Love doing OTF! Everyone is super helpful too, from the coaches to the staff! Mimi has always been wonderful at the desk and I love taking classes with Kaitlin, Ryry, etc!
Had an amazing experience as an out of town visitor from OTF Moorestown/Cherry Hill. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming, and Will was an awesome coach!
Coach RyRy is a legend! My fiancee and I have been going here for a few months and would continue going here forever if we weren’t moving to VT in 2 weeks
It is a total body workout packed into a fun motivating hour. Everyone is great from the staff at the front desk to the coaches. You should give it a try.
Best overall workout I've experienced in Portland! Best coaching, awesome playlists, definitely best community and culture and best results.
Awesome first class! The instructor Melanie was great and the technology involved really helped me push through. Stoked for my next class!
Friendly staff and clean facilities. They made me feel right at home even though I was only in town for 2 days. Thanks Slabtown crew!
Best group workout in Portland! The coaches and vibes are fun and motivating. Environment is clean and everyone is friendly.
Great Vibe. Great coach. Great workout. Just a little expensive - but worth it if you get the results you're looking for!
Friendly and fun staff- RyRy, Rylee, and Lauren are excellent coaches who create engaging and energetic workout classes!
Whenever I'm in Portland, OR for business, I look forward to my OT Slabtown workout. Friendly staff and great facility.
It was specific to what I needed. I loved how much I felt like I worked, but wasn't over worked for my first work out
The staff and coaches are always very kind and accommodating. Gym and bathrooms are spotlessly clean.
Amazing 1 hour full body workout! RyRy motivated me!! So grateful for OTF and the awesome community!!
I love this workout experience. I can’t believe nothing like this existed before. It’s amazing.
