I've had both really good and really bad experiences here over the past few years. I've shopped for my dog and my fish. You have to really know what you want and need because some associates here will try to take advantage of you to sell things. (Not all associate here are like that though!) I bought a 5 gallon aquarium here a few years back, and unfortunately I had a really bad associate sell it to me. He also sold me 15 fish to go in it! Waaay too many for a tank that size ( I found out the next morning when I had to flush half of them because they died). He even said "If you say you want 5-10 fish, I will sell you 10" even though he knew it was way too many for my tank! I kept going back, and he wasn't the only associate that did this either. I was also sold two plecos for my 5 gallon tank on by other associates (minimum tank size for them is 20+ gallons!) In recent years I've had much better experiences (mostly because I became a better fish keeper and knew what to get, and knew that some associates might try to screw me over.) Lately they've been knowledgable and helpful, even about other pets like gerbils. One associate recommended an awesome filter to replace the crummy one the other crappy associate sold to me with my tank. Just go in knowing what you need and you will be fine. Fish and plants are usually healthy. Wide selection of stuff (except for reptiles). Lots of birds, gerbils, bunnies, and some other pets are available for sale there. Compared to others in Jacksonville, its a decent pet shop. Probably the best in Mandarin...

I have 4 other pet stores closer to my house than this place, but will gladly travel the extra distance for the friendly and knowledgeable staff here. The manager, Freddy, is the sole reason I have 3 successful aquariums! I started with a 10 gallon tank not knowing anything about fish and since discovering this gem, have grown the confidence to acquire two more tanks; a 20 & a 55 gallon. Freddy and the others here are always happy to accommodate to my special request of ordering specific aquatic life if it’s not currently available. They provide the most honest advice and support, not just for my aquariums, but for all of my other pet’s needs as well. Judging by the number of other “regulars” I see here, it’s obvious that the reputation of the staff is no secret. Because of all that’s mentioned above and the crew’s willingness to go above and beyond to exceed my expectations, I won’t shop at any other store! My only recommendation would be to find a way to clone Freddy! All in all, a job well done, Pet Supermarket on San Jose; keep up the great work!

I used to be a very local customer to pet supermarket and to this location specifically but in the last couple of years the quality of care given to the animals for sale has greatly declined. There is always at least one or two visibly sick hamsters and plenty of dead or dying fish in the tanks. I stopped by today simply because I was in desperate need of dog food and my usual stop was out of our brand. I noticed that one of the birds in the cages was soaking wet and would not stop shivering. I notified one of the employees to which she replied, “oh no they always do that. He’s just excited” ? The blatant disregard for the health of their animals is honestly disgusting. It was a chilly day and no animal should have to shudder alone in the cold.

Bad attitudes and dumb business practices lose customers. I wanted a dog food bowl and picked out the one above the price tag. Imagine my surprise when it rang up nearly $20 more than the tagged price. The Asst. Mgr. and I went back to the shelf where several other of the same bowls were sitting. She said customers must have moved them. Yeah. All of them. I asked her about the next smaller size and she quoted me the price that was posted on the tag. At the register the price rang up $5 more. The Asst. Mgr.'s comment: there must have been a price increase. She refused to honor the price she quoted me two minutes earlier. NEWS FLASH! Petco and Petsmart are a mile away and Amazon's open 24/7! STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE! STUPID MANAGEMENT.

Great store with friendly staff. Before a recent cold spell, I was looking for some economical shelters for some stray cats i care for. One of the employees knew this and went to the back room. He came out with a bunch of paper boxes and packing materials I could use to make shelters to give the cats some place warm. How awesome is that? That tells you the people who work there care about all animals. He even made me pull my car around and loaded all of the stuff into my car for me. He wouldn't accept a tip. They did this all for FREE. In return I bought my 2 indoor cats their food and some toys while I was there. I'm a loyal customer now. Thank you for your compassion and decency, Pet Supermarket!

I met a "traveler" young man today who had saved a puppy from being "bait" for dog fights. I stopped, talked and got to know the young man and his 13 week old puppy. All the man wanted was food and dewormer for his puppy, and mind you he never asked me for anything, he was earning money by playing his guitar and singing. I was so moved, I took him (Kris) and his puppy Mia into your store and each staff member was soooooo sweet, thoughtful, accepting and helpful. This was on 1/9/2018 around 2PM. What a great group of ladies! Thank you for making the experience comfortable and pleasurable. No one judged. There was nothing but love!

Best pet supply store in Jax! I have a miniature dachshund and a miniature schnauzer and I will only take them here from now on. My miniature schnauzer was overdoing grooming and The grooming here was super nice and very detailed oriented. My miniature dachshund is only 2 months old and I struggle to find things in her size and they had everything I needed. The store employees are knowledgeable and friendly and recommended a good teething bone that my pup cannot get enough of and I really appreciate their chill but polite attitudes every time I come in. I'll be coming here for years for all my pets needs.

Pros:They love there job, its a smaller less crowded place, they let you touch the animals, the animals are happy and healthy, the animals are not agressive, cheaper than most pet stores Cons:Some things they sell are bad (critter trail cages, nesting cotton bared and wired wheels for rodents, small bird cages), they give there rodents bared and wired wheels (they are babys so they will fall through the gaps of bars and both wheels cause a health probolem known as bumble foot) most employes are not educated about some animals, the food for tbe hamsters and gerbils aee too big for them.....

I must say yesterday being Tuesday. I was in a serious money crunch. A coupon I had and some very nice employees 2 gentleman made it happen. But 15% coupon I got in the mail made a huge difference. No questions asked They carried it to my car. I didn't have to ask them to carry it out they automatically did. pet stores Petco and the pet store next to Winn-Dixie on San Jose Boulevard they are not very helpful. And if you ask them for help out to your car they act like it's a huge deal and they can't do it and for this very reason that is why I went back to my home store Pet Supermarket!

I love this place for my pet needs. Everybody who works there are extremely pleasant and super helpful. From the first day I tried them out, I really liked what I saw. So much so that I don't go anywhere else for pet supplies. The prices are on par with any other place too. If you ever have a question, the staff seem very knowledgeable and if you do ask something they aren't sure of, they will check for you and not just "wing it". I've been using Pet Supermarket for approximately 4/5 yrs now and would be very sad if they ever left. I've really come to rely on this place.

Probably the best customer service I've ever experienced at any store! Maya greeted me at the front door and asked what she could help me find, she escorted me to the products & recommended her favorites. To top it off, she offered to cash me out so i wouldn't have to wait, she updated my account from years ago, and offered a coupon to save money. Overall, everyone was very friendly, the store was very clean, and I couldn't be happier with the high-quality service and value I received to make my trip fast & easy today! Thank you!

This is the only place I trust to buy products for my pets. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and make me feel valued. They go the extra mile every time I visit. In a time when brick and mortar stores are closing, I will continue to come in for the best experience rather than shop online. So I was amazed today at how helpful for the staff is. We have recently adopted a turtle and needed some fish to both clean out our turtle pond and as feeders for the turtle. The store associate was incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable. Here's what's even better. We brought up a problem that we have with our dog and the person who was checking us out suggested a product that they didn't carry. It's nice to know there are people who really care about meeting your need, even if their store can't.

These people keep rats that carry URS a horrible respiratory infection that can kill your small pets. I bought a small rat from them last month and the room they kept the rat in REEKED of feces and dead animals and sure enough they keep these poor animals in horrible bins that are overrun with rats that are sick and dying. The rat I brought into my home only made it a week and has now infected our beloved year old rat. STAY AWAY IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMALS BECAUSE PET SUPERMARKET DOES NOT.

This world needs more people like the manager of this store FREDDY! He helped me replace my fish after an accident and another after it was discovered to have a swim bladder issue. He was genuine, nice and very complementary of my choice of fish and didnt try to convert me to his preference of fish like many other pet store staff had tried. He also didnt try to over sell me either! I will deffinently be doing my best to source as much of my fish needs thru this location in the future!

I drive by several other pet stores including other Pet Supermarkets just to go to this particular store. The service has always been top notch but their best part was there aquatic section and service particularly one employee who always went above and beyond with his service and was always very knowledgeable that employee is now the store manager so I look forward to continuing to shop there for all my pet needs and want to thank him and his staff for all there help.

I'm pretty sure that the guys name is Frank he is always helpful and always the one you see cleaning stocking keeping busy and very knowledgeable all the way around. He has helped me better understand my fiance snake and become a better snake owner while making our snake happy healthy and well fed. This store is the only one I will go to at all just cuz of the staff and the way they keep their store you can tell the animals are happy and clean and well fed. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

As someone who cares a lot about birds I love this place. Their birds they sell are in much better condition then any other pet store I've been to in Jax ,no tail bob ,or other signs of sickness. They feed pellets and fruits a much healthier alternative to seed which is highly fattening for pet birds. They spend time and socialize some of them my conure was so sweet and tame as can be. So in total Bird wise these guys are trying their hardest and doing a good job.

Bought a lil' dwarf hamster there. They were way cooler than the folks down the road at the "other guys" when we got our original family hamster. Hamster lasted past its "warranty" so far and is happy and healthy and doesn't mind being handled, etc. They were helpful and answered questions as I talked to them about the critter I was taking home. (Previous was a hamster, the current a dwarf hamster so I had a few general questions.)

Clean store, with friendly staff. They have Fish, Birds and various small rodents. They do have a good selection of food types for Dogs. The fish stuff is good. Their selection of fish is pretty great considering how limited their fish tank sizes are. This is my favorite place in Jax to buy fish. Of course they are pet friendly. The parking lot is the biggest problem with this store, but not a deterrent to going to the store.

Staff is nice and polite I called ahead asked for prices for what I wanted and she was very patient with me I even called back asked if it will take more than 10 minutes so I can get a round trip lift and she had gather the cage kit all I had to do was pick my parakeet and pay I was in and out and the place is clean they have a variety of live pets like rabbit ferret cats fish and everything u need for your pet

The associates working at 5:27 on 8/20 at the front desk were extremely rude when I inquired about holding the kitten that was for adoption. They were clearly very annoyed by me interrupting their conversation. Their reasoning for not letting you hold it was completely understandable, but the delivery was just incredibly rude. Do you know how many places there are to buy animal products on San Jose?

This petsupermarket location is the best in Jacksonville. Justin was especially helpful, kind and patient. He worked with is for about half an hour to find our son his perfect bearded dragon and then answered all of our questions about the best accessories for him. I know where we will be shopping from now on for all of our animals needs. Great job all!!

This store has been my go-to place for my dog's needs (or wants) going on 6 years now and counting. This Pets Supermarket has wonderful customer service and will go out of their way to make sure you find what you may be looking for. They have just about anything you need for a variety of different animals. I highly recommend checking it out.

We drove past this place over 100 times before we finally stopped in. Looks a whole lot better than I thought it would. Friendly people all trying to help you with choices but nobody really pushy. If a pet has you( not you having a pet) this is a great place to shop. Pet food, toys leashes, you name it. To paraphrase Arnold " we'll be back "

Great looking store as far as neatness an organization. I was looking for 2 specialized cat foods of which apparently they were out. Darn! It's the kind of store you go into and really wish you could buy something, anything! Had I not had an angry little kitty in the car with my husband, I would have loved to browse. It was not the day.

This pet store is small-ish but in some areas like.small pets they are better stock3d than the larger stores. The staff is friendly.and knowledgeable. More importantly if they don't know they find out or someone who does. Great for bird owners and.excellent prices on dog foods. Natural health care and all the major brands as well.

I can’t get past how horrible it smells in there. It’s like a super-strength moth ball. I bought a soft dog bed from there and I can’t get the stench out even after spraying it with Febreeze leaving it outside to air out for days. I’d love to be able to comment on anything else but I can’t hold my breath long enough to find out.

When I walked in the door, it seemed like a ghost town… I didn’t necessarily need any help. I just wanted an opinion on hotspot spray for my dog. The lady that helped me out was super inconvenienced by me asking any question at all is the vibe that I got… I hope that they don’t have her as a manager.

Didn't really appreciate them trying to sell me a product that was "almost kinda the same thing". The ingredients was obviously different and the item I was looking for has 2 specific Ingredients in it. If its not the same dont try to sell it. Yes item was by the same company but did different things

This rating pertains to my experience with the grooming area for pets. Took both my animals here for a bath and grooming. They came back looking worse then before they went in and they had a lot of fleas. My one pet also seemed traumatized. Would NOT recommend this place for pet grooming.

This is a great place to wash your dog. They have step up tubs with hot and cold water. Unlimited shampoo and conditioner do it yourself dog wash for $10. Lots of towels and heavy duty dryers too. Update as of Nov 28, 2023. Do it yourself dog wash has increased in price to $14.99.

If you like what you have your dog on don't take their advise. I switched my dogs to their new or promotion and things were fine for 2 months then the last 3 months you DON'T have that same bag I was buying.... really. Disappointed but just stick with blue you can get it anywhere

Had a great experience at Pet Supermarket on San Jose. They had the raw goat's milk I was looking for, the litter and cat food, and great customer service from Freddy and his co-worker. If I didn't have 2 cats already, I'd have adopted the sweet boy they had available, too.

The only pet store that I frequently go to. Very friendly employees. Knowledgeable about breeds and food. Great selection and always doing something for rescue animals. My dogs love the free samples and the doggy bakery treats. Small store but loaded with stuff.

The groomer woman is so nice! I want to say her name is Vicky but don’t hold me to that. She’s the only groomer I have I think and she kills it. From calling a week ahead to being able to reschedule that same week. Not to mention she make my fur baby beautiful!

I wasn't sure what to expect, since we do most of our pet shopping at the larger chains. The store is large, with a solid selection. The staff members were friendly and helpful. They have a decent rewards program. All in all, a solid choice, and i will be back.

Very helpful knowledgeable staff. Loved it here. The girl that helped me with all of my "ferret needs" was absolutely the BEST! She even helped fold down a display cage so I could purchase it. I will probably never go anywhere else but here. Fantastic!!! :)

Very friendly place. We went there and felt terrible because we couldn’t adopt but I’m sure we will be back. The staff there was very helpful and friendly. This guy stayed with my son for the whole time and I appreciated it. They know how to handle kids.

Most of the time it smells clean, however it did seem to have a smell the last time I was there. I like the staff and the store. I buy items for my birds , cat and tortoise ♥. The prices are moderate, but I use coupons when available.

Staff is nice and knowledgeable about the products they sell. I like to bring my dogs here for updating vaccines or getting flea medication when the mobile vet comes on Sunday so I don't have to pay for a vet visit at an actual clinic.

A wonderful selection of fish! They always have a large selection of birds too look , at! And with there small animals you can really tell the staff handles the animals , there friendly (bunnies,ferrets, guinea pig, dawf hamster/!)

Everyone is always so friendly and they have the dog food brand Earthborn that our dog loves. It's been hard to find in some places. We couldn't find it at Walmart or Target and didn't want to order it online from Amazon or Chewy.

Very helpful staff and always have the things we need for all of our critters. They also have decent prices compared to the other bigger stores we've checked out. The animals seem to be more taken care of and handled more also.

This is a great store for fish. After going to two others on Sunday this one had healthy, pretty fish. They also had several that I had never seen ($104 Arowana!) Service was also very friendly and knowledgeable.

The staff here on 11/18 before noon were absolutely amazing, The kind girl greeted me right away and helped me find everything I needed. The young guy on shift was very kind as well. Customer service ROCKS! :)

That is the worse pet store I have ever been in... everything totally different priced from every other Jacksonville store... aquatic section poor water cloudy and inventory horrible and sickly. DONT GO THERE

Highly recommend. Very clean and well stocked pet supply for my turtle and fish needs. Everyone is very well-informed about specific questions and have never met an employee here who wasn't friendly.

I can take my pet in and they let him walk around and act all cool plus he loves that there's somewhere he can go in. They have a good selection on items plus some you don't see at the larger places

I love this place to buy my fish. They keep their tanks disease free and I have not had any issues. They are alwaya nice and very helpful. They will also order fish if the ones u want aren't there.

Took my dogs to get trimmed here and they loved it and we're in happy spirits when I picked them up. Which is unusual when going to the groomer. Very positive vibes and low prices in the store.

Great service. Wasn't sure what flea meds I wanted. The employee who helped me narrowed it down for what best suited my needs and I left confident in my decision of what I bought.

Store is clean and everyone is friendly. They were quick to offer assistance. Prices were fair, possibly a bit higher than box store but this is much easer to get in and out of.
