I am saddened and frustrated to see that the Guinea pigs are still being kept in cruelly small spaces, which are incredibly inappropriate. They are not able to run around at all, it's the size of maybe two shoe boxes. One of the spaces had TWO GUINEA PIGS crammed in there together. It's the equivalent of keeping a dog in a crate until it's adopted. There is no excuse for this! Those tiny spots can be used for mice. Guinea pigs get stressed and lash out at each other when confined so extremely. Just like you keep your chinchillas in larger enclosures, the Guinea pigs should also be kept in the same size enclosures. I will not shop at Petco again for this reason. Heartbreaking and unnecessary. Shame on you Petco, claiming to care about animals while keeping them in completely inadequate spaces. It also sends the wrong message to new owners who will wrongly assume that Guinea pigs don't need running around space, which they definitely do for their physical and mental well being.

I haven't had to buy a pet for nearly ten years, and normally I get most of my pet supplies online. Recently I purchased a budgie from this location and was completely impressed. I've been to bird specialty stores before such as Birdsmart and Our Feathered Friends, but this Petco location has got 'em beat. Their enclosures are SPOTLESS, their food and water trays/dishes were pristine, and the birds looked healthy and content, which is more than I've seen at the previously mentioned competitors. Their prices are fair too. The most remarkable aspect of buying a companion here is the gentle way in which the helper was. She was calm, very quiet, and easy with the bird, and her method of capturing and transferring our new friend (into our carrying) cage was perfect. Petco even has a 30 day re-adoption guarantee on their animals. GUARANTEED I wholeheartedly recommend looking here first for getting a companion for your life and home.

Grooming staff is very rude! I've called multiple times trying to get an appointment for my dog and have always been told they are too busy and they are never trying to tell me when there is an available day. Not friendly! The only one who is good there is Candice, she's a sweetheart! I tried making an appointment with her and the girl told me she wasn't working there anymore then said she would be back in a couple of months and they no longer had a groomer to groom the dogs. Very confusing and a total mess. I started taking my dogs to the poway office and every time I've called and made appointments they have been so helpful! They've even put me on the waiting list for next available appointments. They definitely have better customer service and actually act like they like their job! Don't waste your time at this location!

Love every petco Not anymore... being an aquarium hobbist and having 6 aquariums, i had been spending a lot of my time and money on them. But not anymore Updated the rating to 1. Reason being the customer un-friendly behavior of the aquatic staff. The lady at the aquatic section made us wait for more than 20 minutes without even giving an eye contact or acknowledgment. She was just going on with some long stories with another customer and didnt even page for help from others. I tried to get help from 2 others but they both just ignored and asked me to wait for her. Eventually i just left. Sadly they are the only ones near me with saltwater fish. But better to drive a bit than to waste my time dealing with unfriendly undertrained understaffed places like this one.

Today, we went to buy a gold fish, and we saw very sad scene and unfair treatment of animals. the store keeps more 1000 gold fish in small tank with written”under observation “ . This is so sad to see to keep these amounts of fish in a such small space. I felt they are abusing these poor little gold fish animals. If the store doesn’t want to sell their gold fish , they shouldn’t keep them in store and they are not behaving good with animals. This time of year is best time for little gold fish to be adopted by people but store refuses to sell them. In general I am not happy with customer service and their treatments for animals.Also they are Not honest with their customers

The young women who was working with the fish and her assistant yesterday were SO NICE AND INFORMATIVE! ALL OF THE STAFF AT THIS STORE ARE GREAT!!!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS STORE for all pet needs.I would like to add a note to self and all... When I walked in I was rude because I couldn't get an answer right away. I didn't think that was me but apparently it is. I apologized and the clerk immediately tried to make me feel better about being rude to her. CAN WE ALL PUT ON OUR REALLY NICE PERSON HATS WHEN IN STORES AND RESTAURANTS, ETC. !!!!!!!! It costs a lot to live here and these people don't make huge money and most places are short staffed.

Great sale on food for k9-Blaze. Although being a service animal he goes to many places, he gets so excited at this location. Every animal he meets is a long-lost cousin to him. Lol I do wish people with animals who behave aggressively did not take them or correct that behavior. Although I know k9-B does have the ability to defend himself I would rather not put him in that situation. At 170 lbs he would rather say hi and wag his body happy to meet ya. I could tell the people working were a bit annoyed with the aggressive dog also. Please keep your dog-aggressive animal at home. It endangers everyone around mainly your dog.

Took our two girls to get the full package with the bath nail trim and etc, ( no haircut) but our dogs came back with a haircut we didn't request, they cut the nail so badly that she was bleeding and in pain when we tried to look at it and on top of that our other dog had a cut on her nose - it took 2 weeks to heal. I understand medium size dogs can be harder to work with but that's no excuse for how they returned our pups, plus not informing us of what had happened was uncalled for. Safe to say we will not be using the grooming service anymore.

I want to share my experienced on Friday, as I am an old customer. I bought the food and I went to cut the nails of my dog a couple times before, and they said everything was ok. But this time was different, as I noticed that one nails was bleeding as I reached home. They cleaned the wound up and didn't say anything to me as I left the store. Another thing that I noticed as well was that my dog also had another wound in the neck, as his neck around the collar was somewhat bruised and the part that hold his nameplate cut his skin open.

They've recently done a remodel of this location and it's beautiful. We've come here for years to get items for our cats and a few months ago we adopted a dog. This is my favorite place to bring her to get her things and just bring her to work on socializing and how to behave appropriately in public. The employees are very knowledgeable about a lot of different animals, they had somebody who knew everything under the sun about turtles and how to take care of them. They're all very nice and helpful as well.

I love to look at all the different creatures waiting to find their forever homes, and looking for new treats n toys or supplies for my furry/scaled, or feathered babies. I love bringing my snake in the store when I can as she gets a lot attention and I like to educate people about her and the benefits snakes provide the world, even if all people take away from the experience is that they overcame a fear and touched or held an over 6 ft long snake who also happens to be potty trained. Haha

Excellent store manager at the Carmel Mtn. Store. If it weren't for her expertise/knowledge about Petco's products - I would have bought the 'wrong' items for my new German Shepherd puppy. The Store Mgr assisted with my shopping, offered suggestions when I shared the personality of our pup. Ideal customer assistance, I walked away with the correct toys, etc. & Perhaps more then I anticipated, but the Correct items for my puppy & me which in turn makes my household of pets much happier.

Aloha! My name is Nani. Been going to your store for my fish. Yesterday, a young and funny CSR helped my son and I with algae eater and snail for our fish tank. I did not catch his name. He had a pony tail, tall. But picture says a thousand words. He was very kind and put a smile on this bag. The snail we bought has our initial on it. It was a very nice experience! We love booking grooming appointments here! Big shoutout to Tori, she did amazing job as always for giving my boy super cute haircut, and help him stay hygiene. She is kind and very careful. My husband and I can’t take enough pics for our dog. We tried to find a place for our boy that he would be comfortable with, and not hiding himself under the bed after his grooming appointments. Here it is! We are so lucky to find Tori! Thank you so much for taking good care of our boy!

I have been a few times now after reading the reviews for freshwater fish. I have been pretty impressed. The selection and health of the fish, as well as the vegetation, is pretty good. The staff was helpful. Bringing balance to an African Cichlid tank is no easy task. I honestly have never been to the other side of the store, if it's anything like the fish I'm sure you'll be just fine. Five stars for the fish. Check out the Snowflake Moray if he's still in there.

Slowly they slide into irrelevance. The stores become less clean with each visit. This time I tried to return an item and could not - it has been too long since buying the item. There are fewer and fewer reasons to shop at Petco. I get better service from a local chain or Amazon or Chewy or a long list of other places. Too bad, I have had pets and shopped at Petco for decades. This was probably the straw that broke the camels back and I doubt that I will return.

This Petco is great! Katie who works mainly with the animals as she told me is passionate about the animals and sweet as can be! It’s nice to know someone who’s so knowledgeable about the animals needs and proper care. I feel like that’s hard to find these days. Kindle is very find as well and helpful! Two awesome ladies who know their stuff and put in their heart and soul into their work! It’s refreshing and I highly recommend this Petco location To everyone.

If I could have selected zero stars I would have. PetCo refused to refund my purchase of an unopened bottle of Tap Water Conditioner for my pond simply because it had been 40 days since I made the purchase and their arbitrary window for refunds is 30 days. The expiration date on the bottle is 07/2027 so it could have been easily taken back and resold. Ridiculous! I'll shop for my pet supples elsewhere now where there's better customer service.

Store is great, i would give them a 5 syar rating, good selection of everything I need for my dogs. However the groom room would gey a 1 star rating, the service has gone way down. To long of a wait to check in, groomers showing up when the place opens and are not ready to accept customers. They need another computer in the office. My appointment was at 10, my dogs were not taken until 25 minutes later, unacceptable service.

I don't usually go here just because I feel like I can find better prices at other locations or online. But we recently got turtles and had no idea what to do about a habitat for them. They associate we talked to about them was extremely knowledgeable about them and their requirements. They were so helpful and answered all of our questions. They definitely helped put our minds at ease about these turtles.

Best Petco in San Diego. I got all 8 of my Bettas from here, their tanks are impeccably clean. The workers there are extremely knowledgeable and passionate. One of the workers there stopped a family from buying just a fish bowl for their Betta, recommending a larger tank and asking them to get a filter. They really care about the life of the pets they sell. Brought a tear to my eye. Love this place.

I just had an amazing experience with Morgan (I think was her name, if not I’m sorry!) from the Grooming Department. She took extra good care of my very anxious dog during her first grooming experience. I will 100% come back and recommend her to others. All the people working in the Grooming Department were super kind and patient with my scaredy-dog. My dog came back sparkly clean and super soft.

Who buys food one can at a time? Sell me a case. Almost all the cat food is single cans or bags. No cases on shelves. They also don’t offer sale prices to non members. Every other store I go to has an generic “membership” card that the attendant can swipe if you aren’t a member. Membership is free but why dies Petco need my cell phone number? No thanks, I get enough spam as is.

They always have what we need! And the staff is so friendly and helpful. We really appreciate it too. We have to drive out to special stores for our cat, due to enormous allergies. Petco carries some of the foods she loves!! Sure wish more small toys came without catnip though. HAHA Hard to find those toys anywhere for kitties allergic to catnip. Lol! Great store; always clean.

The first and biggest thing I noticed upon walking into this store was how much cleaner and nicer it appeared when compared to some other pet stores in the area. It might've just been my lucky day but it even smelled better than your average pet store. Couple this with the fact that you can reuse containers for the cat litter and I really appreciate what Petco had to offer.

What's not to love about Petco? Irs where the pets go, i brought my 3 remaining 11 week old foster puppies in looking for a harness, spent more time letting the customers and employees enjoy the cuteness and love from the puppies who barely fit in the cart but were well behaved enough to stay in the cart. Never did find a harness lol, but was nice getting out of the house.

Jamie and the entire grooming crew at this location are the only people I'll let give my dog a haircut! So professional and you can clearly tell they love what they do and love all of the animals they take care of. I am missing a major purchase from my order, the hill's scientist oral care cat food retail for $28, because you do not have enough of it in inventory, you only refunded me $20.48, but the entire reason i purchased it is because of the discount. It's your fault for not having the product, but I have to end up paying for your mistakes. Will not comeback again

I frequently go to the Mira Mesa location because it's a bit closer, but this was the first place to carry dubia roaches. So I was able to pick up a few to see how my geckos would react to them. I think there were supposed to be about 24 roaches in a case, but some of the cases barely had 24. Customer service is good, and the location is clean.

The customer service rep who helped me was above and beyond helpful! I called ahead to see if they had some prescription cat food, he took the time to find it and placed it aside till I got there. Then he helped look up the vet prescription card on file from a past purchase because I didn't have my card with me, and he did it all with a smile!

My regular fido shopping place, clean, stocked and friendly staff, typically has everything I need. Only thing, heavily disappointed with Petco rewards program, which seems became only worth with the recent overhaul. Somehow I shop regularly but never have a reward to use since my points expire too fast.

Busy store, but they have everything you could want or need for you pet. We've been coming here weekly to do the dog training and their trainers really know their stuff. I feel like not only has my dog gotten so much more obedient, but I've also learned so much about how to treat dogs well from them.

This store is fine and I value its location. However, I strongly do not recommend buying a bearded dragon from this store. The bearded dragon I purchased from here developed a cancer that may have been caused by inbreeding. If you want a bearded dragon I suggest going to Pet Kingdom.

Everything you need for your Pet, whatever it may be. Hours are conducive to the working person. You can bring your dog in store with you. A good selection of foods and collars. Prices are a little high, especially with competitors like Amazon. But for an immediate need it's good.

I went to get goldfish, but left with a betta because it will do better in my bowl. Desi was very kind and patient, even though another lady was very mean and cruel to her while she was getting her fish. She deserve a raise for dealing with these people.

Absolutely do not shop at this store. The staff is miserable and not helpful. One of the store managers/ supervisors is the worst. We stopped shopping here because the staff was useless and rude. The store always has boxes in the aisles and is a mess.

It's a big box store. Some prices are high sale pricing is decent. I buy my orijen food here because if I order online and pick up in store I get 20%. That's a great deal! Plus as pals member I get a free bag after buying 8 or 10 cant remember.

I always get my vet prescription of Royal Canin at Petco. It's pretty pricey for 17lbs but love that Petco gives 25% off to buy online and pick up in store. Plus they have the rewards points so I can get my dogs more goodies!
