Ok first let me say.. the kids that work there are almost always fantastic and total sweethearts... last night was no exception. My low rating comes from my annoyance with Petco itself. Petco used to be a neighborhood shop... it used to be the place for cheap vaccinations... information on cheap spay/neuter services... fair priced food toys bowls leashes and treats. Now.... not so much... everything is Suuuuuper expensive... and now I heard they are doing away with the cheaper brands... and only going with the high end. I feed my 3 dogs high end food... bur even that had skyrocketed in price. They just remodeled my store to include a vet. The store looks sterile.... everything has jumped in price 20%. Theres no charm... theres not a lot of staff for personalized attention. I now go to Kahoots.... it's a few miles farther for me. I buy their store brand food... and panel for panel it's as good (arguably better) as the brand I was buying at Petco.... except its $18 less for 5lbs more. We got a new rescue puppy a couple days ago ... I went into your store to get a few items. None of your staff was available to discuss vaccines or neutering services so I bought a few things and came back last night to use my $5 reward. I bought an ID tag for the puppy's collar and cornered a sales person to ask about services. Per Petcos recent sales plan... the prices for vaccines have gone up 20% and a neuter service is almost $200. I miss the old store vibe and prices.... I feel like I'm getting screwed over there... perhaps if others feel the same way they will change their path

I just had a TERRIBLE experience trying to get my dogs groomed here. I recently got my dogs' vaccines up to date, and I had all of the required documentation with me. All documents were properly signed by the vet. I've been coming here for seven years and I've never had issues with documentation, so I thought everything was fine. When I arrived, they proceeded to tell me these documents did not comply with their new company policy regarding vaccines. Upon scheduling, I was NOT informed of these new policies. How are customers supposed to know about these policy changes if you do not inform them properly beforehand? When they told me the documents were not compliant, I tried everything I could. I called the vet, attempted to get email confirmations, but Petco refused to accept the verified documentation. They also did not even try to help me out. The receptionist told me she did not know if the vaccines my dogs got were legit (they were given at Kahoots, and all documentation was signed by a vet). I proceeded to call the Kahoots vet and gave the receptionist the phone, and the receptionist rolled her eyes at me, annoyed at my attempt to solve the issue. After calling the vet again, they simply told me they would no longer be accepting me and my dogs as clients, and that I was being unreasonable... I then proceeded to get yelled at. Clients are not unreasonable for trying to solve a problem that was created by a lack of proper communication on YOUR part. Do not come here.

There were plenty of empty shelves and pallets full of product. I witnessed atleast four (4) Associates that were busy talking to each other, standing around and ignoring customers (including me) than actually cleaning/stocking the store or even giving some good customer service. The Associate I had asked about a product lacked listening skills and simple knowledge as to when the product would be back in stock. There is no valid reason as to why this particular item wasn't in stock. A staple answer was given, "we get our shipments on Wednesdays and we get only what "they" send us". What happen to taking inventory? Maybe, I would "buy" the COVID-19 excuse except: . Product on shelf is made by same manufacturer - the product I am looking for doesn't have the added grains . Product stuck on Barges - product is manufactured in the US. . Lack of staff - but not on this day. Just not helpful & not interested in helping (fact repeated due to importance) . The lack of merchandise and overstock of some items not selling could simply be blamed on the store's management. . They're also behind marking down seasonal items. . Products at PETCO are definitly way over-priced. Sad to say, I think I will have to go elsewhere to buy my pets food supply.

Hate doing business with this location. The service is awful. Just awful and full of attitude. I can’t believe this is a pet store with such unhappy people at the cashier registers. They rarely have bags and their justification is because “this is California”. They don’t honor their sales and find very technical terms to not honor it. I’ve frequented here and bought kitten food on several occasions. Today the lady with the blonde hair and beanie and red nails didn’t honor the sale. She said cat food is not kitten food. Are you literally saying kittens are not cats? I have kittens and buy kitten food all the time with the sales that say cat food and the brand. It works. If it excludes kitten food they should say that. But “thanks” to her I “saved” money by deciding not to buy any of the food since they didn’t honor their sale. Not going to buy my cat food from here anymore since they don’t honor sales and only know how to hold up the line so they can find ways to justify not honoring the sale. I’m going to PetSmart now.

My husband and I brought our dogs here for a haircut. KATYANA, the person who was supposed to cut my dog's hair, I asked her not to cut my dog's ears hair and tail, she very rudely turned her back on us and rolled her eyes as if she didn't like that we asked her to. Her behavior was so rude that my husband and I were shocked and just looked at each other for a few seconds!!!! In the end she didn't listen to us and cut my dog's ears hair and gave my dog the ugliest haircut ever. I don't understand, so what does customer service mean?! I paid a lot of money for rude and disrespectful treatment and a horrible haircut because as a dog OWNER I requested that my dog's ears hair and tail hair not be trimmed. I wish someone would take care of this review so that no one would be bothered by katyana's rudeness and disrespect. I will not return to this location and I will tell this to all my dog owner friends because we all come to this location. we will pay for a place where we at least get respect and good behavior.

My pet experienced horrible animal cruelty in their grooming department twice. The first incident my pet experience was having unclean clippers used in his face around his eyes which caused really bad sores. The second incident my pet experience was having something punched into his lower back which left a clean open hole about a centimeter in circumference I didn't want to believe that someone could be so cruel but after having my pet groomed for several months without any issues at another groomer I knew they were guilty of causing injury to my pet. Please avoid visiting and having your pet serviced at this location. Bethany was his groomer during his first incident and Sierra the store manager was his groomer during his second incident. Both incidents were quoted diagnosis from his doctor. This grooming location should be closed immediately or hire an entire new staff!!!

Terrible experience, will never go back. Would recommend people buy all their pet supplies and goods from Petsmart. The manager Tony is terrible and has no clue of what customer service is. He shows no interest in animals, doesn’t know anything about them and has the worst attitude. If you ask him to catch fish… be careful he even stated he knows nothing about fish or how to catch them. Was buying some delicate fish and he smashed two of them while trying to catch them. As I was wringing up, he would not honor their online price too, which they always do. Then proceeds to grab the bag of fish from my hands and says he’ll put them back then. This guys is unbelievably rude and deserves to be unemployed. Let someone with a better attitude and who’s happy manage your petco. He clearly isn’t an animal person.

We went to this location with my dog for an emergency. Turns out my furry friend had a serious ear infection and was in a lot of pain. We were able to schedule an appointment the same day we noticed the swelling around his ears. The doctor was very nice, patient and knowledgeable. Our dog is a 75 pound animal, but his lack of cooperation did not faze the doctor. He knew exactly what needed to be done to help my pet. Also the doctor took his time to explain how to prevent ears from getting infected. It’s the day after we went to Vetco for help, and my boy played with my friend’s dog for the first time today. The swelling got much better and Atlas is wagging his tail all day today. I’m very grateful for this experience and for the help the team at this location was able to provide. Thank you

I came into this store to buy a seat cover for a birthday gift for my father. I asked the cashier how I could claim my petco pals reward points and he explained with a very rude attitude "with the card" I asked what card and he replied "the one you just used." Obviously the only reason I was confused was because I just used my debit card and there would be no way that my petco rewards could be on there. When I asked him again he bent down, put his elbows on the counter and sighed as if he didn't have time to answer my questions. I'm highly annoyed with this store and I will NOT be returning. Customer service is awful. The only reason I'm even giving them a star is because they are one of the better stocked stores with a higher inventory of products.

The groomer Nikki decided that I was supposed to know about THEIR COMPANY policy change even though I received NO NOTIFICATION prior to a grooming appointment. When I complained, some nobody from that store decided to call my mother and tell HER that she was stupid and needed BRAINCELLS TO READ THE EMAIL THEY NEVER SENT. I then called corporate to tell them what happened and was promised a follow up. It’s been over a week and it’s obvious they are covering it up. Apparently it IS company policy to treat customers with absolute contempt and gaslight customers that are non-white. I have no idea how anyone can give this company any higher than a 1 star for their disgusting behavior.

The fact that Petco allows this company rescue house to do business within there store is absolutely ridiculous. That company rescue house for cats is a complete scam and the rudest people I’ve ever dealt with. I had to do multiple applications since they claimed they didn’t keep getting them, had to call them multiple times to finally get someone to call me and then the lady who calls me is completely unprofessional and makes every excuse in the book saying we shouldn’t have a cat even though we have a house and a tall fenced backyard, then too add to it clicked on us. Go to any other adoption center. I can’t believe Petco would not do there own research on these people first

This Petco has one major thing that puts it on my radar...it is convenient for me. However, I like to deal with individuals that know their products and services...and if they don't know...they are big enough to find someone that can help you..also they try to keep the shelves well stocked and when you have that overwhelmed or confused look...they generally will reach out to you and ask if they can help or assist you...and if you're like me...easily confused...you will appreciate their intervention....now that there are so many places to purchase your fur baby items..don't underestimate our local companies....come on down and support local.

Don't waste your time trying to get your dog groomed here! On my first walk-in attempt, the grooming department was closed even though it said they were open online. An associate told me the groomers leave early if there are no appointments are booked. Then I couldn't book the services I wanted online and was recommended to walk-in instead. Next I tried calling them on two separate days but no one answered each time. On my final walk-in attempt, the groomer told me she couldn't fit me in until the end of the day and they didn't have any openings on the next day. Clearly they don't value their customers. Take your business elsewhere!

I'll be honest, I was skeptical with the renovations and the rebranding but I've been extremely impressed and I love the new stores. There's SO much to be able to choose from, food-wise, for my cat now. He can only eat wet food from having all of his molars pulled and throw in a two-hit combo of an extremely sensitive stomach and picky eater was a nightmare delegated to literally one flavor of fancy feast. I've talked to the employees and I think the manager at the Mira Mesa, San Diego, Ca location a couple times and they're extremely helpful and nice. I genuinely enjoy going to Petco now, it's great!~ <3

This is a much smaller Petco than I'm used to, but I shop here pretty often because it's the closest store to me. They seem to be well stocked and helpful for the most part. The store looks pretty organized too. The one thing that I do always notice is that they are understaffed. I've never seen more than one cashier even when the checkout line is really long, and that can get a bit annoying. I don't think I've ever seen an associate on the floor either aside from the cashier, so when you need help with something, you have to wait for a cashier.

I don't normally right reviews but I had to. By far the worst retail experience i have had. The employee Tony who was working in the fish department was extremely rude and belittling of me due to my lack of fish tank knowledge. Refused service to me and said to tell his manager. I left because I felt uncomfortable and the interaction was casing anxiety. I called the manger who apologized but made excuses for the stores "lack of customer service training" . I have many pets and shop at Petco all the time and this store is the worst.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS FOR YOUR PETS FILLED HERE! IVE WAITED A MONTH JUST FOR THEM TO “Process” it to cancelling it. I went through the trouble of having to ask the Vet to write a hand written RX and go to the post office pay for postage and mail the RX to Petco and now they cancel for absolutely no legit reason whatsoever. so disappointed and dissatisfied with them! My cat has needed this filled over a month now. DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS COMPANY FOR VET NEEDS OR PRESCRIPTIONS! THEY ARE INCOMPETENT!

The store has an enormous variety of animal supplies. I was strictly a dog and cat girl, until I started visiting this store more often. I learned a lot about small animals and fish. Now I have a small hamster and a fish tank. This store has a lot of varieties of fish and a really good return policy on fish. (it's longer than the 48 - 72 hour return policy of other fish stores) The employees let me know when and where I can save money in the store. They do their best to make me comfy shopping in this store.

Worst when it comes to aquatic section. Being a regular customer here i only had 1 good experience and rest all the time either they conduct an interview about your tank set up before packing your fish or just simply put up the sign saying fish is under observation.(4/5 times fish under observation sign is on ). There are few helpful and kind sales person but unfortunately few rude people bring down this place reputation. Hope the management takes proper action to rectify this

My dog has never had a more unattractive cut. The attendant only cared how long I wanted my pets hair snd she had no interest in giving my dog the cut I requested. I asked for a teddy bear cut and she just shaved him but made sure to give him longer hair under his tail…I requested shorter under his tail for hygiene reasons. Worst of all… she nicked him as I found a bleeding spot on his leg! We have had great experiences at Pet Co but at other locations.

This place deserves five stars. The customer service is impeccable not just with one employee but all including the manager. I bought a small animal unfortunately it past and I was able to return everything I no longer needed even with the wrong receipts. They were able to print out the right ones. Anywhere else I'm sure I would have been given a hassle so this goes without saying this has to be the BEST location in San Diego and possibly California.

The employees are knowledgeable when you ask, and there are usually a few out and about on the sales floor. I go here for my cat supplies and have never had a problem. I have also gone to their Vetco clinic for my cat (who howled the entire time because he was away from home) and we we're second in line because arrived early. The staff at the clinic was quick and took care of my cat in a way that didn't stress him out more than necessary.

I didn't like the simple fact that there was no customer service representative walking around to see if l needed any help or recommendations they would have for me when it comes to picking and choosing the best products to get or what's more popular to get when it came to buying flea products. I ended up picking this l was hoping it was a pill verses a dropper but it ended up being a dropper instead, hopefully this is a good brand.

All of the staff at this Petco are phenomenal. I have run into Kelton working there several nights and he is always so helpful, cheerful, and amazing to work with. Honestly one of the best sales associates I think I've ever met. I do not know any of the other staffers names but they have always been immensly helpful and positive as well. I love going here simply because everyone that works here seems to love their jobs so much.

Staff has always been around when I needed them. Every time I'm walking around aimlessly, someone has come up and asked if I needed assistance. Not only that, they actually had the answer. Every time I order online and pickup in store they have had my order right there and everything in it. This PetCo has a really good staff and a nice clean setup. My Yorkie loves running around there, it's his favorite store. Thanks PetCo :)

We tried to call back to reschedule the grooming but no one called the phone ever! We called so many times. They will not call you back next day, unfortunately we missed the call. We had to wait on the line, finally someone picked up the phone at this location but is not from grooming Dept. and she asked us to call back to grooming in 5 or 10 mins. Well, you guys are loosing business if no one answers the phone for grooming.

Very clean and organized smelled great. Went there to get some healthy treats for my dogs and found a whole isle full. I think I chose a great one with healthy ingredients. Was $17 for the bag but at least I know they were a healthier choice. Took them home and my dogs loved them. Things in this store are great but definately on the expensive side but does have the cutest clothes for your doggie babies.

Great customer service! Nick and Erin helped me out when I needed to process the return of puppy food we'd purchased online but had not picked up, so that I could purchase the food our puppy's breeder already had him on. They made the whole ordeal so easy, and Nick even went outside and found a cart for me so I wouldn't have to carry the 33 lb. bag all the way to my car. You guys are awesome! Thanks again!

I've been going to this location for the past two and a half years since it's in my neighborhood. They generally have what I need and the staff is friendly. However, while visiting a local competitor, I found a few more options and lower prices on some items (more specifically, Pill Pockets and Feliway alternatives). I do appreciate that they have a local cat shelter bring their animals and hold pet fairs.

Staff doesn’t know how to work with nor approach pets appropriately and instead insists on drugging them rather than fixing their own issues! Instead of scolding someone on how a puppy should be trained , this staff need RETRAINING themselves on how to keep pets calm and comfortable during vet visits and how to have respect for customers. By far the most unprofessional staff in all of petco locations

For the first time, my 8yrs old dog got severe diarrhea from eating things she shouldn't. Our vet was booked so I went to Petco. Ashley was caring, patient, educated, professional, & friendly. After comparing symptoms, turns out her dog is infamous for getting what my dog had! I left with some pumpkin stuff that has probiotics etc. she suggested. UPDATE: The pumpkin stuff works like a charm.

Great variety and the store is deeper than it looks from the outside. They have emailed, coupon special to partly offset the outrageous pricing and the cashier's tend to help drum up a token coupon or two from time to time as well. Love just looking around at the fish especially. Wish I could give it 5 stars but just so expensive. Guess that's how they get to put their name on the stadium.

Store is clean and well stocked on pet supplies from small animals to reptiles to dogs & cats. Staff is friendly and I've never had a bad experience in the 2 years I've been shopping here The only reason why I don't give this location 5 stars is because, in my opinion, the fish section is somewhat lacking when it comes to livestock... hope to up review to 5 stars in the near future.

Nice, knowledgeable, and helpful employees. Line can seem backed up at times but it moves fast. Ya may get behind some (good-hearted) unknowledgeable and talkative customer but I've never made it through a checkout "long" line without another checkout being opened. Most times I just walk right up. Always able to get in n outta there. Often needed and most definitely appreciated.

Always stocked and clean just a little pricy but overall worth their service and help. I probably wouldn't buy any pets from a retailer except for like fish, hamsters and others similar to these types of pets definitely ones that aren't pimped out and over crowding your local animal shelters everywhere! But other than that small criteria, Petco is good in my book for the most part!

They have only one person sometimes, there was literally no one out on the floor to help with questions. One lady tried to make me feel bad when I returned a large item. I pulled a sample cage down from a top shelf and this dirty liquid spilled down out of it. Not ever a satisfying experience. I would never go here except it is the closest location for me to buy pet supplies.

Absolutely unprofessional the way the he was try to solve a return that expired 2 day after the 30 day return, he was completely ballistic yelling me for just $10 dollars, new item, with a receipt, I never offended him or or cause any damage, looks the he has very short temper absolutely not good for a customer service manager, his name is Brandon from Mira Mesa petco store.

They have on the options board; walk ins. I simply walk in and ask for a mini make over rover plus. The clerk says “I’m leaving, and the other clerk is not about to stop what she is doing to help your dog.” She also says it’s up to her to decide when walk ins are available. I didn’t expect anyone to stop what they had going on to help me. Rude people working for petco

Staff very friendly. I like them a lot Good store overall. Didn't do 5 stars because sometimes out of stock of certain foods for a while. Might be covid related but had that issue a few years ago as well. Some of the end caps look like they need a thorough cleaning, which my dog doesn't mind at all but it definitely needs some attention from a human perspective lol

I personally only dealt with them on the phone. Calling for a friend. To see if they had Fresh Pet. Her little Diva Chihuahua "Chloe " was out of food while she was here for a visit. The guy on the phone was very nice and helpful. He sounded pleasant and was very sweet even though we had staticky connection. Thank you! She ended up going over there to pick some up.

I took my dog to the bath today, But after two hours, It stinks like it did before it took a bath. And the dog is very itchy, I have to think that you didn't bathe the dog or clean it, and you're not worth the cost and tip! I won't take my dog to the bath again, and I will tell my friends about it! What a terrible experience! It's a waste of my time and money!

This is the worst pet store I was in my 20 years of keeping aquarium. By the mistake of their employee I got wrong plant for my fish tank thank and when I got back to exchange for same brand/price plant he said he can't do it without receipt and I didn't have on me. I pulled out picture of transaction he said no. Waisted 1h of my time ond 25$ Never buy here!

We went for the pet adoption and were disappointed in the prices. The prices for a 2 or 3 year old dog was outrageous, walked around inside the store looking for a couple of pets supplies, unable to find or get any assistance from staff. The store definitely did not smell clean and the pet adoption was out side. So this was altogether a wasted trip to Petco.

Staff was super friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately the store itself needed a little TLC. Low stock on the shelves and just a general messiness to the store made it difficult for me to find what I needed. But the cashiers customer service skills and his willingness to help me navigate the store saved the visit for me. The 4 stars are for him.

Lots of sales for cats dogs and all kinds of pets. Awesome service and great deals on everything now and doggy cookies are the best. Your doggy will love them. Christmas clothes for them, lots of cute toys. My fav to shop for my pets at Mira Mesa location the guys are so helpful and know exactly what you need to keep your pets happy.

The store remodeled since I last visited. The place on September 9th had me wondering about the empty cages. I saw the parakeets and fish tanks stocked but nothing else. That will suffice as I was looking for pet food anyways. I went to retrieve the dried expensive meal worms ($3 per ounce..) which I hope the new pet fish will eat up.

It's smells kinda funky but that's just from the variety of animals and options they have. It may not be the biggest but I certainly carries a lot of products I use to raise my goldfish and koi. Better lighting in the isles would make it a lot brighter and less dank looking. Overall this is a really good place to visit

Employees are very friendly and willing to take time to help me with what I need to make good buying decisions. They make things extremely easy for me and that means a lot in my currently crazy life where other people are making my life very difficult and hard to deal with. Petco is a breath of fresh air to me!

Virtually impossible to get ahold of anyone in grooming, don't bother setting that expectation for yourself. Instead expect to leave several voice messages back and forth if you need something. Grooming department, please take the time to answer the phone and save everyone the suffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! …

It's clean, reasonable prices (not the best, but not the worst either), always has a stock of live crickets and mealworms. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Their grooming services are pretty damn good, just make sure you make a reservation as they always seem to be backed up like a week or so.

They have the best groomers in their salon! I take my dog to get her nails trimmed there and they do an awesome job communicating with me each time. The staff in the rest of the store are true animal lovers and somehow remember my dog's name even though we usually visit only once a month or so.

My experience always depends on who helps me. And if I can find someone to help me. I've walked out several times because no one is around to help me. The mira mesa location is particularly bad. Sorry but I try to like this place but cannot. Everyone is too busy petting dogs or chit chating.

I love the staff here. They are friendly and helpful. I take my dog to do her training her, her behaviors have definitely improved and the trainers work hard to help us achieve our goals. My dog loves coming here (she hates the groomers and vet, lol...) But she rushes into the store to shop.

Your guys dont trust customers. I bought a dog food few days ego and when wanted to open the food bag I found out that the bag has a hole. I took back the item to the store but unfortunately the supervisor of the store said it happened out of the store and that’s why we can’t replace it.

We've gotten consistently good results taking our fluffy corgi to Petco for grooming. His long fur is a challenge and needs regular trimming to keep it manageable and reduce snarls, and he's a chore to dry at home or with a blower, but the system they use here leaves him dry and happy.

Had an pet food emergency on Sunday night and this was the only location still open. Drove for half an hour, arrived at 7:54, and the doors were already locked. I typically would not be rude and arrive somewhere so close to closing but, as I said, it was important. Highly disappointed.

We (including our dog) love shopping at Petco. The variety of pet supplies is unsurpassed. The reason I gave THIS TRIP to Petco only a rating of 2 is that we came specifically to find kittens to adopt, and you only had one in the store. and not the age and gender we were looking for.

Petco is making it harder and harder to understand and use reward points. It seems you have to use the app or you are out of luck. No longer automatic addition and redemption of points at the store. Or, even on the website. After years and years of patronage, very disappointing.

Experienced major confusion on our purchase of dog food, appropriate discount wasn't given. The clerk did not tender the assistance needed nesssary to correct the error. Thank goodness another clerk came to the rescue, making sure the matter was handled appropriately.

The manager who name is Tony is very rude, my request was only to exchange the Dog treats and buy a new one for which I used my pal rewards in exchange he was very rude and arrogant in his response. Can’t believe Petco hires managers like these to manage their stores

Ended up doing the 'buy online and pickup in store" which was great because you get an additional 25% off. Plus, you don't have to deal with the crazy lines. My dog has prescription food so it didn't take long for them to confirm with his vet.

Just bought a bag of duck food for our newly adopted ducks. But our duckies just stared at the food and looking at us like ..what is this? They didn't like it. I called Petco and asked if we could exchange it. They gave me store credit

Our first pet shop visited in SD. Cashier staff are really friendly. You can expect to get most stuff you need. The only thing I found missing is Feline Natural which is a quite common frozen raw brand in SG but can’t find it here…

I have been coming to PetCo for years...good customer service and product availability. Louie gets groomed every 8 weeks and Thrive Membership is great, because I can bring Louie in for a check up, if I feel he is having a problem.

Been taking my dog for their grooming services for over a year and have only good things to say about the experience. The groomers have always made my very anxious dog feel safe and loved. Highly recommend the place for grooming.

Ordering and pick up were really easy. Had confirmation from order received to when I picked up as well. I also loved the option to have it brought out to the car as well. Great job Petco! Plus cashiers were friendly and helpful!

The staff at the Mira Mesa store is friendly and knowledgeable. Always of great assistance when shopping for items for my pets, of varying ages and breeds (including a fairly ancient reptile).

Overall this place is just like any other Petco but they're grooming service takes incredibly long. I had my dog get a trim and it took them six hours! Will not be coming here again

Good price. Overall good service, but sometimes hit or miss with the actual staff member performing grooming services. Find a good one and request that same person if possible.
