I am writing this review because of my bad experience with the manager at petland. Earlier this week I bought 3 black Moore's from this store and donated 2 angel fish of my own because the angel fish were being aggressive to other fish I had in the tank. The female employee working in the pet store at that time sold me 3 black Moore's even after knowing that I have only a 10 gallon tank which later I found happens to be not big enough for not even a single gold fish as they grow too big and there is not enough oxygen. After realizing and seeing the fish gasping for air at the surface, I ended up coming back and giving back the 3 black moores and donating 1 oranda, 1 comet, 1 pleco apart from the 2 angel fish I already had donated to the store. Since I have only had the black Moore's for 2 days I was very least expecting an exchange for the black Moore's and expecting no return for the fish being donated to the store. However since I had lost the receipt, the store manager vehemently rejected my request to do an exchange even though I had donated 5 fish to the store which will be sold by the store to make money later on. The manager said that he can't do an exchange because of the company policy which requires a proof of payment. So I asked him to look in the system using my phone number which I had gladly given to the cashier during my earlier transactions. He said it takes at least 2 days for the numbers to get into the system and therefore he can't find it and it's too much work to look up all the species sold. Leaving me with the only option to either go home with the fish and find the receipt or give back the Moore's and forget the money, which I ended up doing. To add to my frustrations the so cold 10 % off card that I had been so generously given on my last visit would not apply to 4 guppies I purchased before leaving on oct31st. So I ended up returning the 3 black Moore's without any return because I was afraid they will die and also ended up donating 5 of my own fish that I had bought earlier on, which is an unbelievable story to tell! I appreciate the fact that the store employee working in the fish department accepted the fish and was really nice and informative to me but I am highly disappointed by the lack of humanity, compassion or empathy shown by the manager. The role of a good manager and employees requires them to understand the need of the customer and to best fit the customer and especially when it's a pet store it's employee's responsibility to care for the pets and not to sell in large quantities if it can cause problems for both the pet and the customer. I Iiterally gained nothing out of my visit to the store and ended up losing money! I am highly frustrated because of my experience at the store and would avoid going there and advise the same to others. I hope this helps! PS. I will rather go to petvalu by whyte ave now. They dont have much big of selection but atleast they care about the pets and dont aak for the reciept ever!

I came to this location with a family member, and we were not greeted. We were being followed around the store disguised “need help finding anything” NO we don’t. This isn’t a corn maze. This store is small lmao.... Also we’ve been to this location SEVERAL times. Been going to this location longer than any of the people working there. The person I came. The dog had an accident from being too excited and she immediately cleaned it up. After that we were treated with an attitude. Another thing I noticed is, after I finished paying for my merchandise the cashier immediately treated the customers behind me with an upbeat bubbly attitude while as she said maybe 5 words to me. I believe this encounter was because of my race as an indigenous person. The customers behind weren’t indigenous. And they checked to see if their purse was zipped up as my friend walked by her. We are people too. Just because we don’t dress FANCY like you do doesn’t mean you should treat us ANY less. My ancestors welcomed yours. And we still get this treatment. Shame on everyone I encountered today. It’s 2020. It’s time to LOVE and not discriminate. There is a world wide pandemic. Show love and compassion PLEASE. Grow up and stop being r*cist. *** side note. I will say any time I have come to this location ALONE it was always a good experience but this time it wasn’t. And I seen a few new faces w the employees.....

October 11, 2023 I bought some molly balloon and was helped by Elisa, store manager. Savannah, sales associate assisted me in bagging my purchase. This store carries a lean, healthy tropical fishes including live aquatic plants. I live in the neighbourhood and this is where I buy my aquarium supplies. WORST SHOPPING EXPERIENCE EVER!! I WILL NEVER SUPPORT THIS COMPANY, EVER AGAIN! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE POSSIBLE!! I recently was ejected from the store for being insulted by the manager. And then escorted off of the premises for being angry about not being able to talk to a mature responsible manager. Completely disappointed that a pet store manager could be so rude, I feel sorry for anyone that was completely humiliated and insulted by her. I have the video of my second visit. I decided to return after wishing I had recorded the entirety of the last exchange and encountered the exact same outlandish behavior! And when I asked to speak with a manager to speak about the situation it was her she told me to speak with, no other contacts available according to her and she was the only way to speak with her boss! I tried to be civil and drop it all, and just return the tainted merchandise but even that couldn't happen! I feel furious over the way I have been repeatedly mistreated as a first time customer!

Wonderful location :) I got my 10 gallon & set-up for my betta fish here, and I absolutely love the knowledge of the staff. When I was here for my betta's supplies, Robert was an amazing help throughout the whole time. Very well educated when it comes to fish and very friendly. My boyfriend and I came here again recently to spend some time looking at the available animals and we met Jenna. We didn't intend on buying anything and had a wonderful time talking about reptiles with her! She's totally passionate about the animals and their wellfare and it's awesome. The open policy is also great - you get to experience the animals hands on ( I fell in love with a little panther gecko ) and you really get a great idea of who the lil guys are :) There are definitely little things to nitpick over about this location, but that's how it is with any pet store. By far my favourite pet shop.

Some of the best products for rabbits. I always stop to visit the small animals there. However, for small animals, I worry about how they are penned. They are in open enclosures so that people can interact with them by picking them up unsupervised. My concern is that prey animals find this terrifying. They do not like to be picked up from above. Approach them slowly from their front so that they can see you. Don’t pick them up right away. Follow their lead and be patient. Also, this store sells rabbit hutches, which are too small for any rabbit. I don’t see much education about free roaming a pet rabbit. Please please please educate yourself before you purchase a rabbit from ANY pet store. Hint: don’t rely on staff at the pet store to be knowledgeable about rabbits. If they are selling hutches, beware.

Have been coming here since they opened and I almost always find everything I need. My main complaint is that the fish stock is very underwhelming and I wish they'd bring in more interesting fish instead of the most common tetras/guppies/dwarf gouramis. I bought some emerald rasboras from them a long time ago before they switched to their new stocking plans and they were amazing, I miss being able to choose different fish! My partner and I also adopted a cat from this location recently and the adoption process was thorough but went very smoothly. Our kitty is happy and healthy and I am so grateful to CAOS rescue for working with Petland and allowing me to spot our new furbaby while on a regular trip to the store for supplies. <3

I rated this petland five stars ages ago because they are always well stocked and have friendly staff who are helpful and knowledgeable. Today I just had to write a more in depth review because they went above and beyond for me. With this freezing weather I've been having so many car troubles and ended up stranded at this location needing a boost after running out for cat food. The staff immediately asked around for anyone that could give me a boost, and found that their stock guy had his car there and was willing to help me out, I wasn't even stranded for 5 minutes and they had be back on the road, cat food in hand. AMAZING service, I could not reccomend this location more!

Staff are knowledgeable about the animals and ready to assist with any questions or concerns you may have about owning a new pet. Our only questionable experience was when we adopted our most recent ferret, during handling training our first time scruffing him he let out a wicked cry, this is common with animals that are improperly scruff trained/hit/abused, to my knowledge the former ferret trainer is no longer at the location. The new handler is amazing and really cares about the well-being of the birds and ferrets, would recommend this location for quality staff and food. Be aware of sales at other pet locations, as cages and kennels here can be fairly expensive.

Overall my experience there was great. I felt relaxed to shop and I absolutely loved how the little animals have "snuggle" bowls!!!! The concept of an open area where the cages are open for you to freely pet the smaller animals!!!! No where does that and everywhere else should do that!!!!!! The store was clean and the staff were helpful but 2 out of 5 staff were kind of stand off ish?? I dont know how to truely explain that. But I give 4 out of 5 stars. My daughter bought her first hamster and ready packaged cage for her hamster. And the prices are fairly reasonable. I would reccomend petland. They are way funner and cooler to go to!!!

The staff are great, but the condition some of the animals are kept in? Not so great. I can mostly speak to the cockatiels, but keeping them in a flat little area and letting whoever wants to come and grab them has made the two cockatiels we got very hand shy/aggressive. They should not be handled by just anyone who wants to poke at them. In addition because of their enclosure both birds tail feathers were snapped and have taken several months to grow back. It breaks my heart to see how they are treated. I hope petland will change their policy, but I dont think they will. Get your birds elsewhere.

A typical pet store. Not too much variety for small animal supplies. They also keep their Syrian hamsters together, and they are solitary, due to the fact that they will murder each other, nevermind housing over six in a cage smaller than the minimum for one. I got my cockatiel from a registered breeder for thirty dollars, where here, depending on colour, they're upwards of two hundred and fifty dollars for birds in bad condition with poorly clipped wings, that are far from tame. Cashiers were friendly, although pushy. Ended up getting a card for a place we will not be returning to.

Stopped in for a few dog treats not realizing they closed at 7 (which is just an odd hour for a retail store to close anyway). Who I assume was management approached me and asked if I needed help finding anything (nope, just considering my options) and when I said no I was quite rudely told that the store was closing. I don’t object to being made aware, absolutely let me know. The way I was spoken to though had a very “get the f out” attitude and was quite inappropriate. My only regret is not putting my purchase back and giving them any business at all.

I was having the worst day of my life today but then I met James at the store. He had no idea about my day but he gave the best customer service someone can ever give. The management should give him a raise or something for appreciating his efforts thats extra above and beyond for customers. While doing the billing he asked me about my favourite animal and I didn’t know why he asked me that later until when he started drawing for me. Good people do exist and they come in a form of angels to show that you’re having a blessed day.

It's nice to have a Petland in this area. Friendly and helpful staff usually. But today I was waiting in line and two people were doing nothing, a third was serving a customer in front of me, one girl looked at me and smiled but did not even bother helping me, until the girl helping a customer told her to help me. It is obvious to me that if you are standing there doing nothing, and you see the line getting bigger, you just take the initiative to move people to the next cashier. Simple and efficient customer service.

This store obviously cares about animals, and doesn't profit off of them like others. I was introduced to a ferret while in the store, was greeted by multiple employees, and my car was greeted too. There was a drinking fountain for him at the door which was a very nice feature. Its a little pricey but I'm a club members which means there are discounts throughout the store, and it was free to sign up. They obviously care about the animals in the store which makes my heart full!

Nice little pet store, it has carts, and baskets to carry stuff around. And it has some small animals, like reptiles, fish, rabbits, ferrets, and birds. The best thing about this place is that they have a big box full of cat litter, so you can just re-fill your empty cat litter box, instead of buying a whole new litter box. Kind of like a bulk barn but for one kind of cat litter. I've only been here once though, so I'm not sure how their prices compare to other places.

Great selection, but I felt bad for the gerbils next to the cats both of them were trying to get at it through the glass. Could have been a re-organizational thing though, seems easy to look over. Reptile selection is great though! It's always lacking in other stores. I walked out very happy with a bunch of supplies I thought I had to order online. I'll definitely be back, this place is like a candy store when it comes to cage decor. Price check often as always though

I love this petland. I like to visit them to see the animals and get cat food, but this one is one of my favourites! The employees are so knowledgeable about the animals, they care they need, and how to introduce specific animals to pets you already have. There are always employees ready to help and the service they provide is excellent! They are so kind and gentle with all the animals and I cannot wait to purchase a ferret from them in the future!

Updating this with a description why this Petland is one of my preferred stores! Knowledgeable staff who are always present on the floor. They're constantly handling the animals, socializing them while completing other tasks. They're been helpful with any questions I have regarding products and recommendations. Prices are fair, selection is good. Just all around a great place to shop for your pets! (And see a bunch of cute ones!)

This is my favourite petland in the city! All the staff are so kind, especially the reptile manager Jamie; she lets me hold everything you want and can tellyou everything about them. It’s very clean back there and you can tell the fish and reptiles are well taken care of. The store manager Larry is also very kind and good with all the staff and customers. I love all the hamsters and hedgehogs. The best pet place in the city

The staff here are really out of it and Extremely spaced out! They can't even answer simple questions they need to ask a bunch of staff that are no where to be found. Than rather that getting the staff that knows about a product come out and talk they send the person that can't even explain anything because there to spaced out. I miss when this store had staff that were educated on the anmails and products.

What kind of a store doesn't open until 11am?? How can you even pay the rent? There's a decent stock of supplies here but nothing to justify waiting several hours after all the other stores open. They have a points system thing if that's something you find appealing. It's just ok for me. It's close and if it so happens I'm there and they're open I might go grab something for my cat.

My son wanted to see the fishes so we stopped in and I have to say the staff were super cool about answering his questions. I didnt get the name of the one particular staff but she was kind and patient with him even stooped to him level of eye contact. I also brought a fish months ago from here and he is still going strong, thx Petland for the pet and the great shopping experience.

Went to the store asking for help with a toy that was breaking down too fast (5 minutes of play!) - I didn’t expect them to offer a return (they didn’t, that’s fine) but the manager brushed me off rudely and barely recognized that I was there. Cashier was very helpful and kind. Pet land itself offered no help, while the toy manufacturer offered me a replacement the same day.

My go-to place for everything I need for my dog downtown. They carry a great selection of different dog foods and also carry bulk, chopped up pig ears which are much easier to parcel out for little dogs. Staff is friendly and there are usually small animals out for children to pet. The store is also obviously dog friendly so my dog can come in with me when I'm there.

I got a hamster here a couple days ago and couldn't be happier! I was helped by Reid and they were extremely polite and inviting during the whole process and even called as ask how the hamster was doing a couple days later. I am very happy as this hamster is the first hamster I have had in years and they are exactly what I wanted. :) Excellent service here!

They're large, have a lot of product. The staff are fine (I've worked retail, I know how they feel haha, but at the same time, I felt a bit meh while shopping instead of well served). They have small pet and fish supplies and a whole slew of cat and dog supplies. They're a great stop as far as product goes. The staff is kind, and do their jobs effectively.

Nice location but the open small animal cages are completely inhumane. The skinny pig I purchased was starved and under fed, also is still very jumpy a year later unlike my first pig which was kept behind glass. Anyone can stick their hands and wrongly pick up an animal and I see parents let their children abuse the animals at this store all the time.

I love this pet store! I come here for all my kitties needs. They are fair priced, the staff are very friendly and are very knowledgeable about taking care of your pets, especially bunnies(when I had one). I love that you are able to interact with the animals and the cats even get their own playroom which I think is great for the animals well beings!

Great selection of pet related goods at appropriate prices, and some live animals to buy or adopt, including cats, birds, rodents, or sometimes hedgehogs. I go there mostly for the cat and kitten food selection, but so far, I couldn't figure out according to what system they are arranged, thus minus one star. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Great selection of various animals, from small and fluffy like gerbils and hamsters, to larger animals such as dogs. They also have a good selection of reptiles and fish, with staff that are knowledgeable, and a wide selection of products to house your animals in (cages, tanks, etc) as well as toys and food supplies for pets.

First time here and last. Ironic that all the capital required to put this retain store together and they don't spend $10/mth on music that would better suit the shopping experience. Yes it just happened that the local radio was playing extremely ride songs but surely a manager would be aware and able to adjust. #theirloss

Poor customer service. The girl finished her sweeping before coming over to ring my purchase through. She didn’t say hello, ask if I found what I was looking for, just wanted my phone number for the membership. She also looked super grumpy like she didn’t want to be there. Don’t think I will be going back to this location

For a pet store, this location seems pretty clean, and doesn't smell like so many pet stores do. Most importantly, the animals there appear to be well cared for. I found the layout a bit haphazard, and some items I was looking for were tough to find. In the end , this location is much like every other Petland.

It's a pet store with pet supplies. It's pretty well stocked the employees are helpful. It's always fun to stop in and get a treat to spoil your furry friends. There's also a place to play with the animals up for adoption, it's good for meeting new furry friends. I'm never disappointed in what I find here.

Decent pet store, I like to come in just to see the birds, fish, and other little critters on occasion. Good variety of pet food, toys, and shelter/bedding. Can't really speak to the health and well being of the animals they sell, but as far as necessities for your pet this place is far from the worst.

Awesome staff, first time I have gotten to hold a bearded dragon so I was very happy. great selection and a pretty decent atmosphere. Only reason I didn't rate five stars is because I had to inform staff of someone abusing the hamsters, need a few more staff to patrol other than that amazing petstore

The staff here is wonderful and knowledgeable. They are also very kind, accommodating, and supportive. Today we went and put our payment for two hedgehogs and they will let us know the day we can take them home. The entire staff is great... though I think were known as the crazy hedgehog couple now

Every time I go into this store, the staff in the fish and reptiles department have been extremely friendly and accommodating. I have also had experiences where one of my fish had died, and because I still had the receipt, I was able to get a free fish at not extra cost. I love coming here!

I've only been in a few times with my "Grandpuppy" and liked the vast array of pet products. There's always a bowl of fresh water for your pet and, of course, a doggie treat for you fur baby. Being a cat owner and rescue person I was impressed they have a play area for cars up for adoption.

When I had some questions about lights for my bearded dragon the other day, the girl I was dealing with was very knowledgeable and friendly. Shes very passionate about reptiles and their well being! I had a great experience dealing with her so I'll be back! I think her name was Janna :)

For being a chain store I am surprised how much the staff cares here. They are very knowledgeable and actually care about the animals and making sure they find good homes. The guy that runs the reptile department is especially great as he has lots of reptile knowledge which is rare.

Easily the nicest pet store I have ever been to. There is real attention to the detail of the ecosystems of each pet. Feels more like a professional zoo experience than classic pet store. All the animals were very happy in their enclosures and seemed to be very relaxed and at ease.

They are always there to help an to help your choose they don't force you its your choice. An i appreciate that as you can see when you shop there, thers a lot of choices to choose from. I buy ther cat litter called the world's best cat litter an id say it is the best.

Been here a couple times. I am really getting to enjoy going to petland, the staff at these stores don't just know about the animals they "know" the animals. This location is relatively new and is great to go to. Large selection and great staff. Gladly be going back

Everyone here is always so friendly, but they will also leave you alone to browse without getting on your cheeks. I bring my cats in here all the time like a crazy cat lady, and they're always welcome. Great membership prices and the animal's areas are always clean.

Not their fault, but the parking situation is pretty terrible. Lots of parking in the area, but with no reserved stalls and the number of rude drivers who cut into spaces, expect to spend more time walking to and from your vehicle than you'll spend in the store.

Clean with lots of pet toys and food for dogs, cats, critters, fish, reptiles, hamsters and rabbits. The staff is extraordinary, they really care about animals, and they help you make the best selections for your pets. The store is very large, very impressive!

Nice open store with lots of help! I've been debating on getting a cute bird for awhile and they helped me think about it some more! I love the fact that you can pick up and pet all the animals, as some places don't. It's also really clean for a petstore :)

This is the best pet store in the city. They are very clean, organized and have a very good variety of stuff for every animal. They are also very good at helping you with any questions you may have. A must place to go if you are a pet lover like me.

Helpful staff members. Great section of food and toys. Plus they have a cat room where you can hang out with an adoptable cat. Plus you can pet rabbits. Today they had some ferrets which I got a picture of a sleepy one sticking their tongue out.

Bought our fish and frog from here. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. After having difficulty with our fish tank they offered different solutions to fix it and we're patient with us. They also have a large selection of other pet supplies.

Never out of stock! Service here is super friendly and polite, though sometimes ya gotta find someone to check out your stuff. 5 stars because that isn't a huge inconvenience and the politeness makes up for anything else lacking.

A good selection of animals and feed. Customer service is good as well and is a nice place to socialize with animals. Their cat play center is a big attraction. The frozen mice are of decent quality for the price as well.

Staff were not engaged in customer interactions, until I found someone to asked a question to. The store was very clean and well laid out. could improve on customer service, but otherwise a pleasant experience.

We were helped today by "Safari Stan", he was incredibly kind and offered some helpful suggestions and drew us a very cute cat on our receipt! The best customer service I have experienced in a long time :)

I adopted this little cutie yesterday, I usually go there to buy my kitty supplies. I like this store! I found different choices of brands food for my kitty. Staff really friendly and nice.

We adopted our cat through Petland and it was an easy and enjoyable process. You can tell the animals are taken care of, and they have a great selection of animal care products.

Manager was somewhat helpful with selecting cat food. Our dog food came up as a different price at the till. It felt like a fairly long process to get the situation resolved.

I love to just come play with animals every now and then. Also buy stuff for my cats of course. The staff is always very nice and friendly. I love this store!

I go for seniors day...really expensive store. There is a dog toy sold at super store for 9.99 and the exact same thing at petland is 27.00. Crazy mark ups!

Bought some frozen mice for my snakes. Thawed them out the same day to feed my snakes but they were rotten. Not good for my snakes. Had to take 3 to vet
