Met 6 different renters today also trying to move their stuff in/out - all complained about how they cannot access their units easily and how they are being "held hostage" and had to extend their unit for extra time as they cannot do large loads in the freight elevator so moves take longer - Kendra said Tom is responsible and I can contact him if I want to discuss the issue - I did so but still have not heard back - after grabbing some items out of my unit, I returned to the office as the elevator alarm was sounding and no one was responding - Kendra sat there despite hearing the alarm - when I suggested she get up and actually do something, she told me to "get out of my office" (have video of it, won't upload) - shame on you Kendra for being lazy and passing the buck - shame on you Tom if you know about the deplorable conditions and do nothing - I hope Tom's supervisor is reading this - this used to be a great location but it's being run into the ground"

We got a 10x20 because it was cheap. However, the challenges of this specific location due to poor maintenance and poor management made leaving an easy decision. The elevators are frequently out of service leading to multiple occasions where we had to use stairs to tote items between ground level and the 4th floor. If you hire hourly movers be prepared to pay more due to the extended time ot takes to get around. Interior doors are all locked making it hard to get around inside. I even got locked in a stairwell, which I'm pretty sure is a safety violation. The office is usually locked, even during times when the office is supposed to be open. It is not uncommon to wait 45 min to 2 hours for someone to be in the office. Moving carts are kept in the office, so make sure to bring your own if you dont want to wait. Also, dont bother with leaving a message, no one listens to their voicemail. You only have access to your floor, so if someone on another floor leaves the freight elevator doors open, no one else can use the elevator. Most of the employees treat you like you are a criminal out to steal their moving carts and that it is an inconvenience when you need them to access a floor to close the freight elevator doors so it can be used. After many pulled muscles, more expenses for moving and hours of time wasted on trying to get items either into storage or out of storage, we decided to move everything out. The one benefit is that it's close to the CTA Blue Line, and the interstate, so travelling to the location is easy.

Worst experience ever. Choose literally anyone else for your storage needs. They only use custom locks on their storage units. Fine. I have to purchase a lock in addition to paying the monthly rate. Fine. The lock they sold me is defective and jammed in the door, but somehow that's my problem? People lose their keys all the time and locks have to be drilled off but is there a drill in the building? Of course not. Will I be reimbursed if I call a locksmith? Of course not. My only recourse is to stand here with three hired movers and wait for the only supervisor IN ALL OF CHICAGO to make their way over here, but it's going to take them an estimated TWO HOURS to show up. Were they on time? NO. Did the property manager try anything in the meantime, were they even halfway interested in solving this problem? No. Called corporate, asked if they would send a locksmith? No. Asked if I could be reimbursed for calling my own locksmith. "Only a supervisor can approve that." Oh, right the only supervisor in all of Chicago, who takes hours to respond to any call and is going to do exactly what any locksmith could have done. Great. Unbelievable. The cherry on top? I've paid these idiots almost $400 over two months, but they'll take $50 off for my inconvenience.

Total disaster. Personal and Fright Elevator is very often out of work, so you can't access the unit and move your stuff. I'm tenant at this place for over 3 years. My unit is located in the basement. Was floded several times during that time with mold exposure. The customer service office on premise is closed during business hours. They don't even answer the phone calls at all. Customer support with PS is very limited or even unreachable and not helpful. I called the property office last week to schedule moving out for today, February 27th. 2023. I took the day off. Borrowed truck to move out and vacate the unit....and guess what? Elevators were down again?! The office was closed again. Loading docks were blocked by maintenance crew vehicles provided with ongoing repair for faulty elevator equipment. Basicaly I was not able to move out Today. I try to contact PS customer service over chat...! ~ they can not provide phone numberto someone who can help! Basicaly I was not able to move out Today and vacate the unit to not be charge $111.00 for next month bill. what a waist of time . Uff. Stay away from this place. Just see attached pictures at my google review.

Cherneal was absolutely amazing, she was friendly & very helpful. She made the process very comfortable and smooth. Best experience I’ve had at any storage facilities, and I’ll definitely recommend Public Storage to anyone looking for extra space! Bill was outstanding! He answered all my questions and listened keenly to my concerns. He made the process of transitioning units so smooth I couldn’t help but leave with a smile! Thanks again, Bill. This is an additional note about my move-out experience with my storage space. I had made the mistake of waiting until the 1st of the month to set my move out date although my unit was already empty. Bill the manager at the public storage was able to help me get storage spaces cleared for move out without any additional cost to me and I’m eternally grateful for it. The space wasn’t cheap and so thank you Bill for your continued excellent customer service it meant the world to me.

Update Don't rent here unless you see that the elevators are fully functioning! I moved in a few months ago and they told me they expected the freight elevator to be fixed any day. No big deal, stuff breaks. But watching the movers try to get my brand new leather couch in the passenger elevator was painful and I'm still not sure it if got damaged, that is a big deal. It also took much longer to move in without the freight elevator and I was paying movers by the hour. I just visited this weekend and the freight elevator was still not fixed! Now I have to worry about how to get my things out, further damaging my couch and again paying extra for movers since fixing the freight elevator does not seem to be a priority. Also the passager elevator was not functioning properly when I visited either. ----- Just signed my lease. Spencer was patient and explained everything to me. The space looks good.

If you are reading the bad reviews thinking the cheaper price and you may not need to go often to your unit, just don’t do it. The elevator is broken a lot, seems to hardly ever be anyone working, they jacked my price by $50 per month within two months of starting to rent. The elevator is old and slow, breaks down a lot and the people likely won’t be there if you need any help. Backing a truck into the loading dock is a pain. I booked a move out and when I got there I found out the office was closed for several weeks to redo the lobby. Luckily the dude there helped me get into the elevator so I could actually move out. They have no issues calling when it’s some dumb trivial thing but not calling when I book a move out when the office is closed is straight incompetence. Seriously just pay a little more for a nicer and newer place.

I wrote a review on here a year ago and at the time I had rated it with 5 stars. Since then they have struggled to maintain customer service. I went online to make a payment, only to find out that I was being charged additional fees that I wasn't even made aware of until I had already made a payment. I'm not sure how legal that even is but it was truly unfair for me to be paying something that I had no prior knowledge of. The experience was like someone giving you the price of an item & once you get ready to pay for that item you're told, "Oh & by the way you have to pay for this other item that you didn't know was included in the price of your 1st item." I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. Also, you'll start off paying $1 & then your rent will increase & continue to do so for a duration of time.

Worse place ever after taking the day off looking for somewhere to store my belongings, I’m glad I found somewhere that was kind generous as well as patient with me. Public storage is not the place your things will be safe with. this is far the worse customer service I have received. Whom ever hired such a rude person to run their business will forever loose out on great customers, as well as money. Me and my daughter waited for someone to open the door to let us in once inside of building we were rushed, and told to come back when I figure out what exactly I needed. Never will I give any public storage my business or money. Something needs to be done. I’m sure I’m not the only guy that feels such a way.

Checkout Review: This place knows how to run a business well by keeping its customers happy. During my checkout Dominique helped me clear up a misunderstanding which saved me about a month's worth of rent. I was worried that Public Storage was going to charge me this amount but they realized an honest mistake had been made and they adjusted the bill accordingly. I don't know if all locations are the same but this one for sure is great and I will certainly be coming back. Thanks again, Dominique! Check-in Review: Jasmine was super helpful taking her time explaining how the the storage system and access into the building worked. I left feeling pretty informed. She has great customer service skills!

My boss rented a storage room here. So im the one bringing stuff here and it really sucks the first time i came the freight elevator was not working. And is still not working after 2 months . So i sterted using the service elevator but that elevator dont go to the 2nd floor thats where we have our stuff and its very small.. so i had to carry everything up the stairs by hand then as im waking towards the room there is like 3 beds smelling like pee next to my room this ridiculous . I ask one of the guys working in there he said he had no idea when were the elevators getting fixed .. this place really sucks. I hate coming here. I dont recommend this place to anyone.

Just an FYI about Public Storage these days. I rented a 10x10’ one year and four months ago for $96/month. They have now increased the rent to $142, a 33% increase! When I asked them about it they said it was now the going rate. So I looked online last week and I could get a 10x 10’ for $95/ month at the same location, a dollar less than the rate I got a yr and 4 months ago. So much for customer loyalty. Mind you we lived without a freight elevator for 6 month and the roof leaked on our belongings and we never took any action or left Public Storage for either incidence. Like some many other businesses they have become GREEDY. Very sad Public Storage.

Ive been here about half a year. The woman in charge seems to do what she can. From the broken elevator, to people not reading a million signs saying to close the freight door, to people trying to sneak in, all the employees do what they can. Idk who owns the place, but the single person elevator that was already broke when I moved in was finally fixed. Self-storage has lower overhead than other property investments, so idk why the owners sat on this repair for so long. I want to give 3 stars given the headache that the freight elevator constantly caused, & it would be 5 if the smaller elevator were available the whole time.

This location is very convenient for anyone living in Chicago's West Loop. It's kind of old school in that there's a manual elevator, but I like that better than Life Storage on Jackson. There anyone can call up elevators at anytime, and so I've had an elevator full of my stuff sent to another floor, right in the middle of trying to get everything off of it, which was a pain. Also loved Dominique! She was so helpful and knowledgeable about all of the monthly deals and specials. If you're in a pinch and need storage FAST that won't break the bank, she's definitely the one you need to call.

I have been using Public Storage for almost a year now and it has been a very easy seamless process. Brittany at the Van Buren location has been extremely helpful both on my initial move in and showing me all around and then when I needed to move into a small unit. She went out of her way to ensure it was a smooth transfer from one unit to the next and was always clear with the pricing and the best options. When I needed to transfer units, she was able to get me one right by my old one so it was very easy to move. The app is very easy to unlock the doors and pay etc.

I've had a locker there for, well, a long time because I went to UIC and bounced around the West Loop upon graduation for a number of years. I went in to pay my bill and was having an already bad day due to my current move in progress, which like any move, has its hiccups. Brittany absolutely saved my day with her help, advice and I wound up buying several moving supplies marked down (as they sometimes do) Not only did it save me a trip to Home Depot, but it left me feeling more positive about my upcoming move thanks to her charm, help, and professionalism! !

Storage space is great! Reasonably priced, pleasant, easy to get to and the staff (Takiyah) are very helpful and cheerful. Thanks for helping me find a way to comfortably store my belongings! I thought I would just keep the storage space for a month or so while I absolutely needed it, but now I find that it is helping me keep organized and plan for the future, without giving up things that I need to keep. Public storage really helped me by providing lots of options and answering all my questions the moment I walked into the office. Keep up the good work!

When I decided I needed extra space to store bulky items, I e-mailed the Public Storage on Van Buren Street to make a reservation. Within the hour, Takiyah called me to say that she had my desired storage unit available and ready for me. I went over there and Takiyah walked me through all of the procedures and showed me how to use the storage lock and explained all of the paperwork. She was very professional and a delight to work with. I was completely pleased, especially since I was in a bit of a jam with needing a storage unit so suddenly.

I visited this public storage location because I needed some extra boxez for my long and exhausting move. When I arrived the gentleman greated me with a smile and asked how can I help you. I told him I just need a few extra boxes to finish up packing. Long story short I walked away with my boxes and packing paper and Tommy made it as quick and painless as possible. The customer service here is great. Im not sure if all Public Storage are the same but I would definitely tell my friends about this one. GOOD JOB GUYS :-)

As a neighbor and former customer, I give this "store" one star. When I was a customer, my belongings got flooded and destroyed because someone hit a sprinkler head when backing their truck in. Service elevator was frequently broken. As a neighbor, they're terrible at keeping their alley clean, well lit, free of junk & trash that people dump instead of store... it's like no one there cares what's going on outside the building, they're just there to collect rent checks from storage customers.

Well hello there. I just wanted to stop by and tell you guys how great and awesome KENDRA ALLEN was with my visit. She showed me around everything is always nice and neat she helps me to make sure i have my payments in on time she always have the right answers and never hesitate to ask anyone for help.i had a very good conversation with her making sure i was choosen the best place for my things and i have no worries she is just wonderful with a bright smile to go with it. Shes the BEST!!

If you sign up for a storage unit, please please ask to see the space 1st. What is defined as a 2 bedroom apartment size, is soooo made for those that have 1 furnished bedroom and maybe a small office in the second. Also, they are reading a script versus talking to you and while you are signing the many pages of paperwork, they tell you, you are required to use their insurance. Insurance is good and STRONGLY encouraged, but you can opt to have your own despite what they tell you.

The people that work there are great, especially Tim. I had my stuff there for almost one year and never had issues. The place only has one freight elevator and two truck loading docks so it's easy for things to get tied up quick. There was one time the elevator was down (as in not functioning, no pun intended) and i had to use their other regular elevator which was a small problem, but all doable. I'd recommend it for a location where you don't have to access your unit often.

Eliza was fantastic and made our stay as easy as possible. She went out of her way to find a customer in the building who was using one of the parking dock stops so that he might move his car so we could get the moving truck in. Also, when I went to move out, the service elevator was out of order so she let us move through an alternate route to make life at least a little easier. Only complaint would be that the service elevator was out of order, but, that's life I guess.

Someone who works at the facility used a key to open my unit and steal over $15,000 of my belongings. Total inside job. If I could afford to move the rest of my stuff to another facility I would. Stay away. Update on my stolen belongings: insurance denied my claim due to lack of break in evidence. Public storage likewise didn't care either. They did raise my monthly rent though, which I thought was a nice touch. Spoke to a lawyer and was told I was s**t out of luck.

I really wish my Fiancé wasn’t so terrified to leave the review due to the bullying she received on Sunday from some lady that stated she is the manger and refused to give her a cooperate number. I hope this reaches the business office. Never rent from this location very rude and unprofessional. I went back myself personally and waited for someone but the office was closed. Bullying has to stop somewhere I hope all your workers are not rude to this extent!

Was a 5-star experience, but now 4 years later, I'm updating my review to 1-star. I've experienced 7 different rate hikes, with no end in sight. They've got me by the balls and they set the market to whatever price they want to increase my monthly rent to be. Gouging. Do NOT open up a storage unit with Public that you might end up having for long-term because you'll be at their financial mercy for a rate hike without notice.

Very easy starting with a unit. View, Lease, and Lock! It's that simple. The bay is self use, the location is clean. Management, Shad'a, leaves no stone unturned. She asks that you call if you have questions later, offers boxes for sale, and provides your entrance PIN. 48 hour notice at least if you are vacating. Much of everything is done online before and beyond this. Happy Hauling and Storage Everyone!

Big up's to takiyah she was wonderful all the questions I needed answered she did. she know exactly what size storage I needed when I told her what I had to store she was helpful and knowledge of the business was excellent. So I had no clue what to expect....but if I had a clue how I wanted my experience to be it would be a big this guy Amid...he explains it as if he was explaining it to a person who was born yesterday...and all with a straight face not getting upset at my being green and being on green... I recommend this to anyone in the area...clean polite and safe

I must admit I was a little perturbed when I first walked into Public Storage . With all the construction in the area . I had to park a few blocks away. But the young lady Takiyah made it worthwhile. She showed me the storage room and gave me a tour of the building . All with a smile on her face. Her customer service skills were excellent. Takiyah you rock . keep up the great work

Ive used many storage units and finally I found one with top notch service. Betty the manager is amazing and made my move out so simple and has the best service by far. The Van Buren location is great, easy access for the loading doc and the app is super easy to use. Thank you Public Storage for making the last 3 years easy. Ill always use you from now on.

The facility was clean and easy to access. The elevators were spacious and close to the loading dock. We were pleased with the range of available storage unit sizes and last-minute booking option (because we ran out of space and needed more). The staff was helpful and ensured we had a moving cart each time we came to unload. Great value for the price.

Eliza was extremely helpful and efficient in getting me set up with a storage space. The location is great with large enough car un/loading area. The only cons are that there is no access to dolly's after the office has closed and that the freight elevator will not work if someone leaves it open on another floor. Overall, I would still recommend it.

Have not visited this location in years with possible lost key. Yvette got me up to speed and identified key to unit amongst my pile of keys. She also provided alternative options for additional storage. She was extremely helpful with another tour of facility and procedures. She is just as professional just as she is awesome. Moving from Chicago back to DC would have been impossible without the care of Brittany! At one point, a luggage was lost off of the back of my uhaul (latch broke) and I was in shambles on the flight home. Brittany came across it, remembered me rolling it in, and called me to check...best call I've gotten all 2022. You are a life-saver, truly!

When I asked to see the unit she took me up herself and then handled all the paperwork after. The property manager at this location is very rude. She has no professionalism. I called up there with an issue she told me to come to the location at 4:30 because she has to take a lunch. Then when I got there another couple walked in and she told them don’t just walk in without an appointment because it’s rude. I could not believe it.

The unit itself is highly overpriced and they have me paying $276 when I can move into a new one for $140. Rip off! And the only elevator to take big stuff in and out is constantly broken......But Betty is the best!! She is so patient and tried to helped me resolve my issue. I have not had as good customer service from anyone else.

I just recently rented from this public storage and had an awesome experience. Moving is frustrating but the people here made it so easy. I especially enjoyed meeting the young lady in the office Takiyah Jackson she was a great help! She was polite perfessional and funny! I would recommend this facility for your storage needs!! A+

I came in to buy some boxes I was so lost because I had quite a few things but Amid was patient and broke it down to how many boxes I needed and how much tape I needed. Sure enough I used it all and had everything for my move. Thanks to Amid my move was stress free. I definitely recommend coming here, they truly are experts.

I had such a great experience with this specific public storage. I was in-between moving and as we all know there are the stresses with that. The person on site, Bill and the Manager, Stephanie we're both more than helpful and considerate! 10/10 experience- I will come back to this location the next time I need the space!

Jasmine was great. However, the freight elevator wasn't working when I wanted to move in. Someone was working on fixing it. Also, if you don't have a truck to back in to the loading dock, you have to carry your items up about five steps to the level that the elevators are on. Very inconvenient. and poorly planned.

I had a wonderful experience at this location. The property was very clean. The customer service I received from Rakim and Kendra was outstanding. They made my move in quick and simply. Before I left Rakim ensured all of my questions were answered he was very knowledgeable about helping with my storage needs.

I purchased a unit & used it for 9 months, from when I moved in, anytime I needed to access it, & until I stopped renting was an incredibly easy process & affordable for what I got. I had a 10x10 unit that fit everything I needed, with insurance for my items & the staff is always incredibly nice & helpful.

The storage place is great! Cherneal helped me lock up my space and made sure I knew how to do so . Also she gave me her own personal key chain to keep up with my storage key so it wouldn’t get lost. I would definitely refer public storage to any potential customer. They have great customer service!!!!!!!!

The elevators are always broken. They never have any flatbeds available. Even when the office is supposed to be open it’s not. There’s also no parking nearby, you have to walk around to open the loading dock (it’s a process). Dirty stairs and hallways. Will never use them again. I suggest you don’t either.

Well i was forced to get some storage and and found a great deal at public storage upon arriving i met Amanda and was given the full tour she was excellent very knowledgeable and had all the pricing down path i was in and out in less then 30 mins and had no complaints thanks Amanda for everything

Betty one of the property managers at this location was very helpful in showing me the information needed to complete my rental agreement at this location, she walked me through each step and I'm really appreative of the help giving thank you again and I would defer rent at this location again

This is the best storage location. Easy access to UIC, clean and easily accessible. The staff is really friendly too. Especially Brittney H at the Van Buren location. Always friendly and courteous, and goes out of her way to make things easy for you!

There is not a small ramp here at the entrance, so managing the stairs is .....tough sometimes. The worst is that there is no reserved parking for units' owners. Otherwise the place is well maintained and never had a problem.
