It makes me sad to leave a two-star review for a library because I think all libraries should be five-star libraries. They are so important for the health of the community. Right away I got a officious vibe from the librarian as I applied for my card. Just rules, no orientation or anything. I then came in the next day to work on my computer, but my battery was low, so I needed to plug in. There was no place to plug in on many of the tables, and it was pretty crowded, but I did find a wall plug four feet away from one of the tables, so I plugged in there. Another librarian came by and told me that I could not plug in there because of a tripping hazard. My laptop has a very long cord, and I had been careful to lay it out so no one would even brush it, and it was a low-traffic area, but he said, that's the rule. He said that they'd been requesting an installation of electricity on the tables for a long time but no one had. It seemed to me though that a surge strip with an eight foot cord and one of those rubber no-trip cord covers would be an easy fix for this mostly imagined problem, and that would give everyone at the table enough electricity for their laptops, but I digress. I went looking for another place to sit. There were computers along the front window, and the row was mostly full of desktop computers, but I noticed a gap where there was room but no computer, so I set up there. I grabbed a chair from down the row, plugged in, and started to work. Another librarian came by and gave me the evil eye, I think because I'd moved a chair. She told me that there wasn't a space there, but there clearly was, so I pointed that out to her, and she left. The next day I came back, and instead of finding an extra chair in that spot, I saw that someone had spread out the computers more so that there was no longer an extra spot where I had been sitting. Huge eye-roll. I signed up for a computer and was assigned one in the back room. when I got back there, I was able to print pretty easily and for free (earns a star), but there were signs there saying that you could not plug in your laptop to charge it in that room. I did anyway while I printed and hoped no one would notice. The whole vibe of this library was officious anti-patron like this. There were only two spots along the window where one could plug in a laptop and work, with chairs. Also it sure did seem like there were a lot of staff not doing much. I'd say eliminate a position, but in a place like this, I'd be afraid that they'd fire a nice librarian and keep the bad ones. :-/

The librarian profession is wonderful. I do have utmost respect for those who truly love books and dedicate their career around its atmosphere. However, I feel like majority of the librarians I’ve come across at the Queens Library branches growing up as a kid and now an adult are just very depressed and/or just plain rude. It’s almost as if they never wanted to be librarians to begin with. It’s been a while since I returned to the Jackson Heights branch. I used to frequent it with my little sister and we’d read books in the 2nd level childrens’ floor. While the librarians were still a hit or miss, I really liked the library. Today my opinion changed. I came today with my friend who was visiting from abroad. I was giving a tour of the library and reminiscing to all my favorite childrens’ books. Apparently when we take a seat, the librarian tells us we can’t sit there unless we have kids. I never seen the library doing that before. Strange. However, I understood it might be so that random students or other adults don’t hog up the tables and sit there with their laptops when it could be reserved for kids. However, there was literally only 2 other people in the entire floor (the library was closing in less than an hour too). Regardless, rules are rules so I didn’t want to make a fuss. We finally found a corner by the glass windows and decide to sit on the floor and mind our own business, while going through some of my favorite books growing up. It wasn’t even comfortable sitting on the floors but whatever I wanted to respect the rules. Guess what happens next….. That “Karen” of a librarian (I kid you not, she gave Karen vibes) actually hunts us down and tells us we can’t even sit there if we don’t have kids. Huh???! Like I understand the tables but why the floor by the corner???! Again, it was Tuesday (November 30, 2021), around 5 ish pm and the 2nd floor was EMPTY (check the security cameras). Her reaction was over the top. Woman, if I had kids, I would never bring them near you. Anyways, total mood killer. We went downstairs and continued on with our business. I never had this bad of an experience before. I feel especially bad for my foreign friend who probably has the impression that all American libraries are like this. It’s not. Libraries are great, it’s the people who work in them that are not.

Being born and raised in Jackson Heights, I've been to this library ever since I was a kid and now that I have my own children, I was excited to continue the tradition and show them a place I remember fondly. Unfortunately, things have changed and not all for the better. Second floor employees have militant attitudes and expect kids to be compliant robots. The most shocking thing I witnessed was on a Friday when they had toddler story time. An elderly woman arrived saying she came to see her great grandchildren and the woman with dark hair denied her entry because she didn't have a ticket. I over heard the elderly woman say she's 92 years old and came from a long way, and the employee said sorry story time can't be interrupted and you need a ticket for next time, and you can just watch from the outside glass. The elderly woman said, there won't be a next time, thank you. I had stepped out since my kids were crying and the blonde hair woman doing story time told us to "take a break". I knew my kids weren't feeling it and would not go back in, so I told the employee this woman could just take my place, and she said NO we cannot do that, they only give tickets out Mondays and there are no more tickets. I just couldn't believe my ears. The elderly woman took a seat outside and called whoever was inside in story time and the person came out and pleaded with the employee and then finally she was let inside. It was shocking to see how they treated this elderly woman. Show some compassion and just proper manners.

Unfortunately I must rate the library experience a very low 1 due to an employee there that is named Alexis who works in the children's section. In case this isn't her name, she is the blond woman with the lack of training for interacting with children, their parents and understanding child behavior at each stage of their lives. I'm very upset. I sat down my small 12 m old in his stroller preparing to leave because 10mins of library for the first time in his life would be alot. He starts to cry once I sat him down. N she scolds me behind my back and the other mothers agreed that it was inappropriate and uncalled for the situation. I had a bad experience years ago with my other son who is now a 3 year old in 3k. When he was 1.5 he would get off his seat maybe 2 xs during a storytime for his age group and others would too. At some point she tells the parents that we must take them to the park to burn their energy before coming to storyline. From that day on I stopped going. It was disgusting. All the other public libraries especially flushing which would be very far for me is educatesd in how to interact with children and their families and even give you a helping hand which the child is overestimated. This is a minority melting pot and it really feels like she's targeting people and she just doesn't belong in our neighborhood sorry to say. She needs trainin gor needs to go. Learn to get their wiggles out or do a engaging storytime for the appropriate age.

3rd Review Came with my guy to this branch. He needed to get a replacement for his missing library card . Marita Boci was very, friendly and helpful , Due to her efficient assistance he received his new card right away . . We also got much needed assistance from Erica Bresler and Natella Yakubova.. They are all awesome ! I truly love this branch because of all of them. I recently lost my Queens Public Library card . I was really upset about that . i was worried that someone could use my card . I went into this branch in my neighborhood , and spoke to Laura Czerwinsk- Rivera . She was very friendly , supportive and helpful . Because of her , I was able to get a new card . She is a gem !!! 2nd Review : Came here again and brought my guy here to make sure he got a Queens library card. Thank goodness Laura Czerwinsk-Rivera was there. She got him one right away . We are so grateful for what she did . There also was another librarian who helped me check out a book . She was very patient . Unfortunately did not get her name. Next time , I will make sure to get it . Anyway, I am grateful to live near this wonderful library .

After pandemic.I have had a bad experience with the librarian on the second floor (kids section ) she is rude.When Me and my kids ask her about the program for kids she doesn't want to answer.and when I visited today I didn't know about the rules that I can't pick up phone call ( by FaceTime) And she Think I make a vdo for my kids at the library but I said no I didn't but she complain no you shouldn't do that maybe I make a mistake but just talk nice my kids scared and asked why she talk like this.I want to take my kids to the library and we always go here but now I feel I don't want to take my kids here because of the librarian.and I saw some parents there they took a picture of the kids but she not complain and my kids wanted to coloring and they took the color only 1 but another parents came and sat with my table and she took everything but the librarian came to complain me that I'm not took it and when I said not me she never say sorry.it very bad experience here so I hope at the library should change another people to work here that she love kids.

I was born and raised in this neighborhood. This has always been my local library. Unfortunately, my husband and I have had a bad experience with the terrible attitude of the two new librarians that work on the second floor in the children’s section. Both have been there since the pandemic, but are rude and act as if they dislike children. It’s very unfortunate because toddlers should feel welcomed along with their parents. I’m not sure of the blonde ladies name, but I’ve greeted her when entering the floor and she doesn’t respond. When my husband has gone he’s noticed her being nasty to other kids. I’ve even requested help in searching for certain book authors and they don’t bother getting up to show me where the book is located. Instead they’ll point from a far distance and seemed bothered. I stopped attending story time for toddlers due to their dislike towards the kids. Hopefully, more parents will come together to address this unacceptable behavior of these two librarians, and action is taken to improve the library.

I always use self-checkout and the automated return system (with the fancy conveyor belts) so I don't interact with librarians much to comment on the experience. The place has a lot of Chinese books in the back which is a plus. There are also big sections of Spanish books and some Korean books. It's good to see libraries have books in languages that at least reflect the ethnic composition of the neighborhood. I avoid the place near afterschool hours; I imagine it can get crowded with all the kiddies around. Overall I like coming here; I probably wouldn't enjoy it at all if I have to sit down for any period of time due to how crowded it is (never understand how people can stand having complete strangers sitting right across from them and every time you look up you are staring at each other's faces). Going into the stacks in nonbusy hours I can be left alone to flip through some books which is what I like about libraries anyway.

For the life of me I can not understand how anyone can get anything done at this his place. Library is anything but quiet. No quiet study area, which I get, the place is small and they have to work with the space they have but that's all the more reason why they should be enforcing the quiet rule more. No outlets for people that need to charge their laptops while they work or study. And the internet sucks here, to slow and if you need to watch a video (like my course requires) than good luck. If there is to many people then you won't be able to load anything. LIBRARY TWO SUGGESTIONS: 1) enforce your quiet rule 2) get one more wireless access point. It'll help with congestion due to all your patrons trying to connect to the few access points you have.

Early this morning I went to the Queens Library at Jackson heights to donate my books from the last three college semesters. A women (long gray hair, pony tail, glasses, between 50-60 years old) told me put the books into the donation can, I asked her for help because the books were in a box and was heavy; also I had a surgery three weeks ago so I really cannot lift heavy things. Long story short, the woman told me I can’t and treated me with contempt. I immediately left the library. So sad that people like that work there. She even didn’t say good morning, qualities of good customer service. By the way, I didn’t donate the books there.

I’ve used this library for about 15+ years and trust me when I say it needs a SERIOUS upgrade. It’s extremely small with limited and crowded work spaces. NO individual cubicles. NOISY, DULL, and CONGESTED. For the first time in 15+ years I decided to do some work there and guess what? The WiFi wasn’t connecting. When I asked about the issue, i was told the reason is because many people are using it. UMM ISNT THAT THE POINT!? So basically, staff isn’t helpful and try to brush you off. I’m only giving it a 2-star because it is my neighborhood library but please travel out few mins more and AVOID this location!

The woman who issued me the library card is accommodating and helpful and I think so too with the librarians. But the set-up is not well-thought and and library rules are not strictly implemented. It is very noisy which is ridiculous if you come to the library with a sole purpose to focus on studying. People talking loud. The copy machine is situated close to the studying area and is constantly in use thus making such disturbing noise. Kids playing. Not conducive for studying at all. I planned to stay the entire afternoon to review but got so annoyed that I simply left less than a half later.

I have never experienced a library this noisy and hectic. When I came to New York, I used about 10 public libraries. But why is the Jackson Heights Public Library so noisy and disorderly? There aren't as many homeless people as there are at the Main Street Public Library in Queens, but it's simply like a cafe where locals chat, talk on the phone, and bring household chores to work. Even now, next to me, mail that has been piled up for an unknown amount of time is being opened, checked, and torn apart. Is this a problem for users? Is it a fundamental management or system problem?

This library needs a serious upgrade. I am basing my review on the 2nd floor and it’s activities as I bring my now toddler every now and then. I used to bring her to their Wednesday Storytime but it’s far too loud to be able to pay attention to the story or songs the librarian is trying desperately to tell/sing. I wish they were more strict as the Elmhurst branch is about only letting children who can’t walk yet into the Wednesday class. That would eliminate all the running around and distractions. Also, staff isn’t very pleasant. They don’t look happy to be there at all.

well this library have some very great feature and upgrade however the staff are not very nice some are some not and this is pretty bad and not cool you have to respect them by saying "please" "may I" or "can I have'' and if not they won't respect you when I first came that's how they treat me and at that time I was developing english so f**** them however the second floor the staff are very nice and ready to help anytime if they could. And also the place is noisy most of the time which suck so good luck to the people that reading the comments. ******

I TRULY, want to give a BIG THANKS TO MYSTY she gave a review in which complaints that she and her friend (both adults with no children with them) were removed from the children area; This simply proves is a very safe environment for our youngsters. I appreciate that the second floor is exclusively for children or adults accompanying children. The first floor for teenagers separated from adults area. I feel very comfortable and safe environment for our youngsters. I recommend this or any library that think of our children safety. Thank you.

I did not like anything about it.It is just a place for nosey old people that just talk have nothing else to do.I think that if you have serious work to do go somewhere else.Oh,if you have children bring them there it's like a playground for them on the second floor.Libraries in general are not libraries anymore.Go to Europe Where libraries do not separate and divide people. A real library is a gift to study and learn not a playground for people that have nothing to do but disturb other people.

This is a small library and by small i mean only in terms of the places you can sit and read or study. The facilities are really nice . The staff was very polite and courteous. I just started going there to study, but my first day i saw a fight break out between a guy and a woman. It was very annoying and irritating to see that people come here to talk as if this is a public park. I feel the staff can be strict in terms of telling people to be quiet and discreet. Will see how it goes.

The worst library I have EVER been to. Its soooo LOUD! The loudest person being some supervisor named Joe, I believe. Hes having a loud conversation on his personal phone in the middle of the library. I remember when libraries were super quiet. This library is far from that. The administration needs to make some changes here. Its close to my home but I would actually travel farther just to get some silence! Its unfortunate!

This location offers amazing children’s storytime program. The children librarian implemented music and puppet show during storytime, my kids had so much fun! But seems the program is so popular and have to to go in every Monday to get ticket, otherwise it runs out of tickets quickly. As of 5/3 they are closed for maintenance, hopefully the library will open again soon and my kids can’t wait go for the storytime again.

The librarians are very helpful. The patrons (guests) make visits unpleasant because the parents don't tell their children that it's a place to behave because the majority are trying to get work and quiet reading done. The noise decibels are zoo-like. The range of material, topics, languages; separate rooms for children and teens; programs and events make this Queens library branch a great resource in the community.

Although I waited about three hours, I was lucky enough to be to a woman who was cooperative and gracious enough to allow me to go and buy coffee and did excercize as well. This added to my experience. There was a truck from the World Central Kitchen giving tacos and water. Inspire on the misty weather, it was rewarding to see many people were voting.

They should change the name to queens fish market because the level of noise in this place is unbareable especailly if you want a quite place to read n study !! The outside people i understand, but even the staff themselves r loud n gossip at the counter... The phone ringing, the staff shouting at each other!! The staff members should take better incharge n reduce the noise!!!

Very noisy but clean facilities. Staff not so friendly. And though the library states a closing time, they start shutting lights off 15 minutes ahead of that time - and appear visibly impatient near you if you're still working. People like me pay taxes to keep this place open. They should remember that. This is a place in existence to serve the community.

My son has been really enjoying the story time in this library until this lady came over to tell me not to bring my son back anymore for 2-3 months, since she thinks he has not been paying attention. I admit he might have been distracted few times but he is a kid. It was really heartbreaking when she told me not to come, I couldn’t say anything.

Lousy librarians. I asked for help but they over complicate it to the point where I was confused and fed up. Not to mention, they scold the children asking for help. (Ages around 7-14) My requested books were on different shelves. They don’t bother to tidy the place up, and the library has this stuffy atmosphere to it making the library gloomy.

My kids use this place very often. It is nice to have a library in the neighborhood. Staff is quiet knowledgeable and courteous. They conduct reading times for kids which is fun apart from various other short programmes being conducted on a regular basis. Would definitely recommend to parents who want to restrict screen time for their kids

They have this faulty security system at the front door which scans your books to make sure you're not stealing. Well everytime I walk into and out of the library it beeps on me and I have to get checked to make sure I didn't steal anything. I didn't steal anything, I checked out my books. Darn thing is fricken annoying.

It is very bad service library. Person work over there no very Lourdes . Spacial front desk one black lady We still have time not close. She said closed they don’t want do anything. Small library with selection of books. Went to get my card today but their system is down and only if have ID with proof residence then I can download the app and checkout books that way. Was allowed back to see if book I needed was there but no, not there.

I always go there for my printing needs and I pay $0. You're allowed 20 sheets per day. Putting money in your account to print more than the standard quote is not available. Customer service is not that great. So, sit down and shut up, lol.

The employee in children class need a better training. Don't expect toddlers to be quiet and sit on the same place. They are toddlers not adults. We are not raising robots here. Hopefully supervisor has training for such employees.

The library is so loud.Also when I wanted to use the computers the librarian just ignored me.Also when I try to leave the library a machine a the entrance beeps then they tell me to come over so they could check if I stole anything

My daughter and I spend about 30 minutes or so on 2nd floor twice a week after school. We have to leave after 3pm because of the crowd. The only thing I don't like is some kids eat in the library and some parents too.

Is a nice library but it has to be organized more kids making noise and is kinda hard to concentrated, the place is not so big or small in my opinion I think is average other than that the staff have to do better.

Came to this library numerous of times and love it this library is smaller than other Queens library but front desk and librarians are always very nice and helpful you can find amazing books to read here too.

I've been in libraries in Podunk towns that were bigger. Looks more like instead of having a school library they made this one public and next to the school. It's pretty nice for a school library.

The staff apparently doesn't like to assist with simple tasks. They like to tell you to adjust your mask everywhere you go though. The other library in Elmhurst is way better in every aspect.

I love this library. It has great new books come in, a lovely selection of fiction, and the reserve pick up is always well organized. It’s one of my happy places in the neighborhood!

What insanely rude librarians! Wouldn't even let me charge my phones. As a professional librarian, I am shocked by their disregard of what it means to be in a service profession.

Unfortunately my review is based on only one visit. I found a homeless person washing In the restroom. Also, 2 men sitting at a table,seemed inebriated and wouldn't stop talking.

I remember having to use their computers when my laptop broke down. Very professional and courteous staff. Relatively quiet until kids come back from schools around 2-3pm

This place sucks. It is always loud. The librarians are mean, rude, and unhelpful. If you need to know something, don't come here. Go to some other library to get a book.

People are talking inside the library, they also talk in their phones but the librarians do nothing about it. Sometimes, it is very hard to focus if you are studying.

This is a very petite library in an urban area. One of the smallest in the QBL network. But great place to pick up books and order some printouts.

A really cool library, there is a massive variety of books. I have picked up 5 books from there and they were amazing. Definitely recommend going.
