It really is the best part of Brisbane at South Brisbane and South Bank. The Queensland Art Gallery along with the Queensland Museum and The Gallery of Modern Art are all located together with the State Library of Queensland. Free entry for All. All day parking in P1 or P2 off Stanley Place will cost you around $18 and it's the best way to stay cool in the heat. Head in early not to miss a space. The Museum opened at 9:30am. The Art Gallery has some wonderful features if not for a breeze through. The Museum features dinosaurs , a paid insect feature and reptiles and other interesting things. The large screen videos were captivating. The GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) has a cool looking paid feature and a Pacific exhibition upstairs. The coffee past the grass was spot on.

We had a nice time walking through the gallery and checking everything out. I am an art lover and was so delighted to see some artists I was fond of (who knew Brisbane would have a Degas? Picasso? Renoir?). My partner who "doesn't get art" (his words) seemed to actually enjoy himself. Even though it was fairly busy, there was plenty of space and thankfully quiet to really take in the atmosphere. There were a few pieces that have really stood out to me and I find myself thinking about. Came home very inspired and I quickly sketched out some ideas for future painting projects. Has been a good while since I had the urge! It is definitely worth a visit. I am disappointed it has taken me this long to visit!

I was on vacation today, so my wife and I visited this place early in the morning. It is convenient to car-park here. However, regardless of the time required, you must pay $17AUD for the full-day price. But that's ok! because you can visit here and the Queensland Museum and the QAGOMA Gallery for free and save time!!! At the end of the tour there are plenty of eateries within walking distance to the nearby town hall! Queensland Art Gallery is so big, nice and amazing!!! It's a fantastic place to relax while looking at some great art!!! So, If you're in Brisbane you should definitely visit this place and highly recommend it!!!

The place is absolutely magnificent! The architecture itself is a fine art object and it houses an impressive collection of artworks from artists all over the world, featuring a variety of themes. When I visited, I was particularly impressed by the numerous paintings from the 17th century. What's even better is that this place doesn't require a ticket or security check, making it accessible to everyone who wants to experience the spirit of great artists. The lighting design is also amazing, adding to the elegance of the space. If you're ever in Brisbane, I highly recommend a visit to this place. It's truly worth it!

Beautiful to stroll around the art of ages. The water piece was truly a statement as you enter, allowing you to feel a part of the art. After the immersive entry there are opportunities to branch out into various rooms, floors to take in the various pieces. My favourite touch of the gallery was the provision of blank pages, pens and boards for those creatively stimulated and desiring an outlet. This little feature is something that makes me want to go back time and time again, to find a little nook and sit, draw, and allow the creative juices to flow while surrounded by the inspiration of others!

Exquisite building with a modern contemporary feel... the clean lines capture your attention as they play with the light and shade created by different elements of this structure. The lighting dances off multiple mediums including polished concrete, render, tile and water not to mention the artwork. I find I could get lost strolling and admiring quite an extensive display of exhibits. The relaxed feel and the welcoming nature of fellow admirers of fine art all combine to create a magical experience. Can not wait to see what the next art programe will bring to Queensland...

The Robin Gibson designed building is beautiful, particularly the water feature on the ground floor. The Queensland Art Gallery's 'Australian Art Collection' room, contained a small but interesting collection of artists representing Australia's most influential art movements. There was also a temporary exhibition on the art of Joe Furlonger. The Queensland Art Gallery contained mostly contemporary art. Contemporary art can also be viewed at the Gallery of Modern Art next door. This is described as "Contemporary art from Australia, Asia and the Pacific".

I've been a regular of the Gallery for years and find it incredibly peaceful. There's no cost, you can choose to sit and look at the art or you can sit in their gardens. There's a cafe in the Gallery which has indoor or outdoor seating. They have a couple of gift shops, multiple entrances, amazing art and the staff are welcoming and friendly. If you live in Brisbane and you haven't visited, it's a must do! Great for a rainy day activity.

  • Ashley M. Richter

Decent, but a strange layout for a museum that involves a lot of doubling back to see everything. And the gift shop was more focused on general art and had few things actually related to the art in the museum itself, which was very weird. That said, the museum had some beautiful pieces and well curated collections very much worth seeing.

Stunning architecture, stunning lighting. I won’t be subjective at all since I love everything related to art, the collection blew my mind. I really enjoyed Daniel Boyd’s tapestry and Isaac Walter Jenner collection. It has a cloak room, a shop (which does not have much to offer) and a cafe in site.

  • Sandra Bevan

It would be terrific if the gallery were a bit more like other galleries in that people are able to carry their bags as they liked, be able to set up and do studies of other artists work in other mediums other than 2B pencils. This would help artists local and international to develop their skills.

Amazing place. Many displays and exhibits and they change them regularly,. Very spacious so you don't feel crowded. Lovely outside space and seats upstairs so you can relax and look out over the river. Coffee shop and restaurant in building. Easy place to spend a couple of hours.

  • Simon Williams

The gallery itself is modern, spacious, clean and well run. The art work is well presented and varied. Some beautiful spaces inside and out. There's a cloakroom, shop and a cafe on site. All the areas we visited were free of charge, and kept us engaged for a couple of hours.

  • Jimmy Botella

There is always something going on aside from the usual displays. Totally reccomend it to spend a great Sunday morning. Combine it with a visit to the Science museum and the museum of modern art, have a coffe to rest during your visit or even some food.

  • Gerardo Lagüéns

Amazing collection, a World Class museum in the heart of Brisbane. Last Sunday at 1pm, we had the opprotunity to take a free tour over the Indigenous art pieces with the passionate and gentle volunteer Geraldine Beer and we absolutely loved

  • Carl Pearson

My first time at this Art Gallery. Found the experience very nice. Wonderful art on display, you also have the chance to sit quietly and take in the art works or you can pick up a pencil and paper and try your hand at creating your own art.

  • Marville Badua

A must visit when you’re visiting Brisbane! Free of charge and you’ll see different artworks. Sculptured, tapestry, pottery, some local and international artist is showcased. There’s also a cafe inside the museum and interesting gift shop.

Love how the artwork is so varied every time I visit. This visit I loved the mechanical constructed charcoal piece being done on the wall. As always the reflection pool did not disappoint Always a great experience.

A couple interesting exhibitions and good collections, but the best thing about this gallery is the wonderful spaces on different levels, with occasional large windows giving different views of south Brisbane.

  • Joshua Woodbridge

Pretty great, great viewing spots and nooks, slightly confusing layout and terrible bathroom layout, but not the bathrooms themselves necessarily but especially their location

  • Christopher Shean

We had a fantastic time on the “highlights” tour with Graham a few weeks ago. The gallery is beautifully presented, and the cafe is great for a bite and has a lovely outlook.

Bump into this building by accident. I was attracted by the look of the building outside. Decided to go and check it out what was it and turns and it is the art gallery.
