I found this place after searching for Red Wing shoe stores. I spend 14 plus hours a day on my feet. Rain or shine; concrete, expanded steel and dirt. After my colleagues said Irish Setters are the most comfortable boots I started my hunt. I bought a pair online during a sale and they didn’t fit. My colleague said , “Go into a store, find your size and then order online.” That was my strategy going into this place. I came in on a busy Saturday at noon with my infant son. I waited outside for 15 minutes in a light drizzling rain as it was busy inside and the door was locked. When the customers left and the door opened I was greeted by Walter. I immediately told him I was looking for an irish setter waterproof in size 11 or 10.5. Within a minute he had a pair for me to try on. He stated that these times are very limited with inventory. He keeps a handwritten log of people that are waiting for specific styles and sizes that he already has on order from the Red Wing. He is acutely aware of the supply chain. As I tried on a pair of 11’s I noticed immediately that they were a touch to big but he didn’t have a 10.5. Within minutes he found another pair of 10.5 elk trackers but they were mismatched colors from customers grabbing things off the shelves from the craziness. The 10.5’s fit perfectly but I didn’t want a mismatched pair even though he offered me a significant discount on them. Finally he devised a fitting solution of red wing custom insoles combined with the stock insoles and he created a footbed spacer solution to fit my foot into a half-size larger boot. It was amazing how crafty and samurai-like this guy Walter was in historical and practical knowledge of these boots. He literally services grunt workers to the Japanese and Hip Hop fashion elite. He pulled out a 50 year old Redwing commemorative pair of boots that were $900. He listened to every thought I had and came up with a solution. On top of that we had deep discussions of machining, welding and electrical work. This was the most profound experience I’ve ever had buying foot wear. After stacking two footbeds together I made the decision to just get the boots right then and there. I couldn’t be happier. I took a 2 mile walk up the LA River Trail that evening and felt so good. This master shoe dealer Walter provided me with exactly what I needed in the latest color with a custom fitting right then and there….now. I went online after my purchase and searched for the model and color I didn’t know existed (before he showed me) and found a pair online. They were $25 less and would arrive a week later. Meh! This is place is like walking into the Kill Bill Hattori Hanso scene. If you just want a quick boot and randomly find this shop with forgettable signage and tagged chains you will be guided to the best. If you want the rarest of classic american made leatherwork Walter can put you on a list and with patience you will be served. Plus there is a mini parking lot and it’s a block from La Buena Noche on Olvera Street. Boots and tacos = good trip. I like Walter so much now that I’d like to buy him a beer. So I’m gonna swing by in a month or so and ask him.

Extremely helpful service, also with unusual overseas inquiries. I had been looking for a Red Wing franchise to procure a new pair of my trusted old Pecos, which has been totally discontinued in their European sales program. Three U.S. shops, plus the official Red Wing Mfg. (using their website contact form) didn't even bother to return my calls and mails. Not so Walter: he was very cooperative beginning with the first mail contact and went to great lengths to have my boot in my size custom-made on order. He wasn't fazed by an international request and communicated perfectly via e-mail. Direct overseas shipping, understandably, is not offered by the shop, given the rarity of the case and the complexity of customs, billing and postal fees, but I was aware of that. Eventually, a friend of mine picked up the merchandise and will forward the boots to me in Germany. Thx, Walter for to shying away from this special case.

Loooooooove!!!!! Love the boots, but more importantly, the service was amazing! Mr. Kim is a sweetheart and I was very impressed with how personal he made the experience of buying new boots. He measured my feet, brought out multiple boots in multiple styles and even removed the insoles on one of the boots and had me walk around to ensure the perfect fit. Hahaha he even called me his granddaughter and said I was more like a princess while he was lacing up my boots and tying them snugly. Got some free red wing socks at the end also love you Mr. Kim! Very glad that I came here vs other red wing stores. A bad review of a different store informed my decision to come to this store so I feel obligated to give a great review. Given the compact nature of the store, there is an excellent selection. No issue with not having my size. The shop owner Walter helped me find the best boot given my needs. Beyond the extensive technical service, he was also a nice personable guy. The business has been around for 40+ years and had to relocate to this storefront after their last unfortunately succomb to a fire. Also a nice size parking lot considering where in town this is. Go here!

To start, the owners/employees or whatever at this store are amazing. Super helpful and super personable, I feel good about giving them my business. Also apparently the largest redwing selection in Los Angeles. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The exact boots I wanted were in stock and available, and I got my foot sized up just to be sure about the fit. I was also able to see how the boots look after being broken in and worn for a year or two.

Incredibly helpful store owner that you can tell is very passionate about what he does, and has been doing it a long time. Helped me get the size just right, fitted the boots for me, and was very patient while I chose the right pair. This store apparently contains the largest stock of Red Wings on the shelves beyond what most other Red Wings stores have, so there's no issue of not having the right size or style.

I just bought some all leather boots made in America at this location from Walter who, was so patient and respectful. The boots although, not my first choice, are just unbelievably comfortable. I’m a heavy guy who works construction and puts a lot of ware and tare on my boots and I’m just so very satisfied with the whole experience!! Awesome boots, awesome customer service!! Thanks Walter.

This place is awesome and family run. Used to be in Little Tokyo on 1st street and relocated to this new location. Great boots - work them for years (their Vasque line hiking boots are great as well). I think I saw what looked like some smoke damage outside a few days ago walking by, hope they are open again soon. Again - wonderful, knowledgeable owners and great, quality products.

A year a go I bought a pair of boots that cost me $320..I brought it to the LA store where originally got it.i asked about the price to get my boots resole,the store owner was not interested In helping me to send my boots to the red wing fabric..she wanted me to sale another pair of boots...I don’t really recommend this location they do not have good customer services..

I wish that I got the gentleman's name. Came to the store, it was crowded, I wanted to get my boots conditioned for a long motorcycle trip. He asked if I could leave them, unfortunately I couldn't. He said no worries and had them back to be in 10 mins. Then we talked about how much he liked my style boots that is no longer made by Red Wing. Fantastic job!

STORE MOVED! The new address is 633 N Spring St Los Angeles CA 90012. The new location has parking and is near the past location so it isn’t much of a change. Friendly, and extremely helpful. We’ve been coming here for minimum three years and will continue to do so for the quality customer service and boots!

Hidden little jem of a place. It's hard to find genuine good business ran by honest good folks. My lady and I walked inside to be greeted by a knowledgeable older man who knew his craft and gave us a authentic experience and set us on our way with these fresh Red Wing puppies! Great customer service!

Tried to call and ask a simple question about pricing and the person I spoke with couldn't even speak English clearly. Got none of my questions answered , just broken English... You come try? $300 for boots and you can't answer 1 question about them? Unbelievable.

This place is the perfect place to learn about Red Wing Shoes! Walter was very knowledgeable about the manufacturing process and helpful on selecting the right boots! Picked up two pairs that looked and felt great! Very sturdy products.

Very Good Quality steel toe shoes would definitely recommend anybody if they want something good for work. A bit pricey but worth the money. U get what u paid for. Plus the service was amazing. Plus Walter was great Help.
