I had never used rent a bomb and always hired fairly new cars from hertz, budget etc and paid a fortune. I decided to take a chance and rent from here and was really worried the whole time after reading all the reviews for rent a bomb. When we went to book it in and pick the keys up from the Sth Melbourne office, Tom served us. He was the only one dealing with the customers coming in but he didn't rush thru things with us, explained everything to us in a professional manner. The car he gave us was a Toyota Rav 4. In their eyes it may of been a "bomb" but I thought it looked and drove like a fairly new car. (I currently own a 2021 Nissan X Trail) The company took $400 from my credit card as a bond and I received it back in the acct within a wk after i returned the car. Tom served me again when i returned the car and was professional and FRIENDLY and the customer service was fantastic from him. We ended up paying $46 a day for the car and paid an extra $10 a day as extra insurance, so a total of $56 a day for the 4 days of hire (with min excess of $500). Still half the price of one of the main car hire companies. Would definitely go back to them.

Have used these about 5-6 times. This was the last time. Quite poor customer service. Car was dangerous to drive, could not see out of the windows because the tint had melted, genuinely dangerous to drive especially at night, other headlights refract the light and you can't see cyclists and other cars. You had to enter the car from the passenger side to drive and clamber over gears and handbrake (drivers door broken). Just a joke really. When I mentioned this and the fact I had to drive with all windows down, I was interrupted and was told 'well this is the first time we have heard of this, good job its been warm then' (it was 14•c) There was no apology, no discount offered. Nothing. Upon hiring the car I was repeatedly talked over and interrupted in a genuinely abrupt and curt manner. Rentabomb probably has about 3-4 years left, before they become obsolete, if not already.

Excellent and friendly service all the time, i dealt with Richard 95% of the time, i always found him to be cheerful, friendly and very helpfull. I have called him a couple times in very short notice and Richard has always made sure I had a car to pick up on the date I requested. I have rented a wide range of cars over a couple years and never had a issue with any of the cars, all the cars are very well maintained and safe, interiors are clean. If you want a cheap but reliable hassle free car, always make sure you give Rent A Bomb South Melbourne a call first. The cars are really bad quality and the smell/ interiors are dirty and outdated. Cheap rates online are usually just to attract customers without a mention of the car‘s condition or it being extremely old, smelly and outdated. Our wipers were not functional and we only figured out when we needed it and struggled to drive in heavy rain condition. We deal with Avis, Budget, Europ Car and multiple other rental car companies across Australia as part of the routine school incursion service provider and have not seen a company who has unlimited KMs but restrictions on what suburbs you can visit. One of our network had mentioned not to book there but we still decided to give it a go. Staff was also quite rude when you pointed a few issues out . Disappointing experience overall.

This was my first time visit at Melbourne and I rented car from it and it was a last minute deal. On that time I got a car which was Mitsubishi Mirage, a small car only car left at It's stock. I was so tensed about that car whether it could meet my purposes. I have travelled so many places around Melbourne for 4 days and it’s performance was excellent. Fuel consumption was so economic and I was really surprised with Bomb's car's professional service. Also they have returned my security deposit within a week I have returned my car to the. Thanks the customer sevice person who helped me to get the car at the last moment. Highly recommended for a car with a very reasonable price. Thanks again Bomb.

I actually called the company after the booking process only took 30 seconds. I thought it was too easy to have worked correctly. The bloke at the pickup point was kind, relaxed and efficient. The car was simple, cheap and cheerful, and perfect for what we needed. It was great to be able zip around town for 24 hours for errands that public transport couldn’t hack. We even named our little Hayundai, Wilbur. It was super easy to drop him back off too- filled him back up for under $6! Will rent from Rent A Bomb whenever I need a car in the city picking up from South Melbourne. Curious to try other locations and see if the experience is as enjoyable.

South Melbourne Rent-a-Bomb car rental. Poor customer service. I'm a non-white australian and I first hired with them in 2017, I sensed a little prejudice and walked away. I rented again in 2021 thought it was ok but when I went back a month later, they struck a nerve again. Whilst I understand, I may take time to gather my sentences I dont appreciate not being able to finish what I'm saying. Advice - they rent $27/day (1day hire in metro melbourne) dont let them bully you to paying more. They're cars are REALLY OLD!!! The one thing they had going for them is cheap cars (dont go there for quality or customer service).

Worst car rental experience I have ever had. The vehicle I rented was damaged by a third party while it was under my responsibility, and due to I could not prove it was not my fault I needed to pay for the damage, even though I paid for the insurance. Fair enough, that is what was established in the contract (useless insurance). On top of that, when they send me the quotation, they have repaired items that were not damaged under my responsibility, items which may had been wear due to the car's longevity. Very unprofessional company. Cheap prices for horrible service and experience, would never recommend it.

Originally I had a great experience with this company, but upon returning the car they decided to charge a cleaning fee despite the car only having a bit of sand on the floor mat in the front. We had specifically asked before we left with the car how clean it needed to be to when returned and they told us don’t worry about cleaning the inside. Absolutely no understanding from the staff when we returned. Edit: to be fair, yes they did charge us less penalty for being late. But very disappointed with how we were treated during return. Not sure where they are saying sand came from, we were never on a beach.

Had the worst experience with Rent a bomb. Had booked and paid for the car 10-7 days in advanced, only for the operator to call an hour before the pick up time to inform no car was available. The operator Kathy, was rude and unwilling to work out a solution. We even offered to travel to a different franchise to pick the car up, or take a different car type, model than what was booked initially since we had plans for the day and just couldn’t cancel everything on an hours notice. Most unreliable, unprofessional service. Do not recommend at all. You will be wasting your time and money with them.

DO NOT RENT OF THESE GUYS!! ALL the staff are really rude, as if they are doing a massive favour letting us rent from them. After renting the vehicle for a week we returned it in which we though was good condition obviously a bit dirty with bugs on the bonnet etc and a little sand (it is Australia!), but no the guy at the depo was VERY rude towards us insisting we take it to the garage to hoover and take through the car wash bare in mind it was 42 degrees and we had a flight to catch!!! Never rented a car from a company and excepted to to clean it!! OVERALL VERY VERY BAD SERVICE!

DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS MOB. Absolutely terrible experience. The Ute that we reserved was not anything like the one that they supplied. It was so un-roadworthy I wouldn't let my wife in the ute, and it was only that I needed the ute for a really urgent job that I used the horrible thing. After complaining to the manager about the condition of the vehicle and the aggressive and apathetic response I decided to report them to the police. I couldn't have on my conscience that someone using this vehicle could easily get into an accident and hurt themselves and someone else.

Con charged me a hefty $65 cleaning fee for less than a few small hairs on the front seat. After explaining I wasn't happy with this and providing photographic proof of the fact that it would have taken less than a few minutes to pull these off. He stuck to his guns and advised me not to contact them again. After getting in the car it was obvious that deodorising the car is not something they do. I also never had a dog in the car which he kept saying I did. All and all I was really unhappy with the service and treatment. Next time I'll book elsewhere.

Very disappointed. Booked a car at a reasonable price from South Melbourne and was told the car wasn't available. But could get a more expensive car. I said I would email management after my trip to dispute the cost change and was told not to come and pick up the car. If you know the number of cars available you should be able to adequately disperse cars amongst customers. I will not be a customer any longer with rent a bomb. Leaving customers to organise another car at such short notice is poor customer service and frankly very disrespectful.

Cheap rental, decent service, however no parking to return the car. Told to park within sight of the building and accidentally left it in a taxi rank, we were so sick of driving back and forth trying to get a spot we didn’t realize. Apparently people have been ticketed parking there several times because they didn’t realize also. Then next day we’re told we could have parked farther away and left a note, not helpful now that we have a ticket. Next rental will be from somewhere with actual parking spots for their cars.

I came to Melbourne for a friends wedding during the Moto GP, I was unprepared and hadn’t booked anything. No cars in Melbourne No where. I found rent a bomb and booked a car for exactly when I needed in 30seconds. The process was so easy, I thought I would get a email saying they didn’t have anything. The car was basic but I was so grateful. There was no hidden fees or costs and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely be back next time I’m in Melbourne purely based on the service I received!

This is the second time I have rented from these guys. It was easy renting from these guys and the staff member Richard was really helpful with directions. I saved money compared to hiring from the other hire car places nearby. It was just what I needed for a few days without busting my budget. The last time I had to move some big items from home I rented on of their utes which was perfect. Thanks again guys, I have recommended you to my relatives visiting from overseas.

I was impressed with how quickly I was able to get a rental car but very unimpressed with the fact that it stinks of cigarettes and fuel was on empty. These rentals aren't really any cheaper than most other companies so with that and the condition of the cars I would say steer clear of this company. My complaint about the cigarettes was answered with "I can't really police that." Very poor customer service.

Update 25/03/18 - I haven't seen empty fuel tank in my last 3 rentals. They deliver a superb value. Adding more stars in my review...:) You get what you pay for. They have average cars and rent is cheapest. Service is excellent with lovely staff. Location is also very convenient. Never faced any issue with my rentals. Can give them 5 stars if they ensure that customer gets full tank of fuel at pick-up.

DO NOT rent from this dodgy car company. No word after receiving a confirmation email promising that the staff would call me back. Rang up to check - they didn't even stock the car promised in the booking. Staff tries to put down the phone ASAP to get on with running the dodgy business. Promised to call me back after - no joy either. Waste of bloody time. Take the advice on this page and DON'T BOTHER.

This place does what they say - rent bombs of cars. Expected everything to be no frills, also expected the cars to be roadworthy. Second time we have rented, with one brake light out. I thought the first time was a honest mistake, but after the second I would worry about what else was wrong in the car. Pointed out the issue both times and was ignored. Definitely not a fan.

Poor service, over an hour long process of collecting a car that was unroadworthy, despite doing an online reservation. All the info had to be resubmitted at the depot. Why even bother with the online forms Quick return process, but I'm sure that was because it was close to closing time. No parking for vehicle return, despite it being a sunday afternoon....

WOW CANT BELIEVE THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS. MADE A THREE DAY RESERVATION ONLINE AND AS INSTRUCTED CALLED TO CONFIRM THE CAR WAS AVAILABLE BEFORE PICKING IT UP. This is the WORST car rental place I have ever had the pain of dealing with, I requested a van weeks in advance and received a confirmation email. I then called up to reconfirm a few days in advance- only to be told they don't even stock the vehicle they had confirmed. The staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional. NEVER BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY.

I was 4 minutes late to return the car, rang the manager to see if he could wait 4 extra minutes. Manager was rude and hung up the phone. I sent an email for rent a bomb to reply with what I should do next. No reply !!! Charges me an extra day rental. Disgraceful !! Merry Christmas ,yeah right !!!

Staff is super rude, with zero knowledge in customer service, like they hate you! You should also be careful cause they try to scum you with the petrol of the cars. I’ve use them before different location and was just perfect, very kind and professional, I think that this is just the wrong team.

Got a van it drove well stopped well did the job air conditioning worked which I didn’t expect.Friendly stff parking wasn’t issue for me but can understand that it could be. I had my van or three days and worked well. Did the job no more no less just what I expected would hire again.

I hired a car for1 day, paid a deposit of $338, then hired again on 22/9/15 paid $ 575 as deposit, both times returned car with absolutely no damage, and with full petrol. These people told me they will refund deposit to my credit card, and STILL have not done so. Bunch of crooks.

Had a hire car booked for tomorrow. Tried to ring several times to confirm although I already had received a confirmation email from them. No one bothered to answer after 7 attempts. Sent another email. Eventually they decide to reply informing me no car was available.

Amazing friendly staff. Quick response time. Awesome cars that are easy to drive, very efficient with noting any previous damage and credit deposit refunded within 3-5 days. Will recommend to anyone to use this company. I myself will continue to utilise.

I had a pleasant, no hassle rental experience. Wide range of cars to meet all price preference. I took a newer car which was comparable to the likes of Budget and Hertz but rate was obviously cheaper. Will be my first point of call for rentals from now.

I didn't have any problem with the car,but I returned the car two blocks away from the place, because they don't have a parking lote. They charg me 50 bucks because they had to pick up the car... They didn't tell me about that before so wasn't my fault.

Poor car in many ways. I'll guess you get what you pay for. But still a very dangerous car in the traffic! and don't expect any help if there appears an trouble! I'm not impressed by there willness to make the rent as good for you as possible. /Niklas

Terrible experience. I rented a car from them for a few weeks and when it broke down they tried to blame me and keep my deposit. I had to contact racv to prove it wasn’t my fault and they eventually reembursed me. Never again! Stay away …

We dealt with friendly and very efficient staff at the counter for pick up and drop off. Terms and conditions were explained clearly with no fuss. The car was great for my need, overall excellent experience and value for money.

The renting process and the car were fine but I was charged an extra 25$ because there was sand in the car because we went to the beach. The man over the phone proposed that "I come and clean it myself" if I wasn't happy.

Needed a car to get me from A to B quickly on short notice - Booking was quick and car was reliable - Counter service was friendly and helpful - will definitely be going back to Rent A Bomb next time I need to hire a car.

Really good service, rented a car for about a month. Friendly staff, good cars at cheap prices. They were happy to extend my rental period on multiple occasions. For City runabout cars, these guys have the perfect fleet.

Efficient service, at least half the price of the major rental companies. Straight forward pick up and drop off. Had two baby seats available for us to hire which wasn’t the case for many other rental options.

What horrible service! Bad cars and even the worst people. I know it’s called rent a bomb but seriously, Do yourself a favour and spend a little more money and go somewhere else.

I hired a vehicle for around 3 weeks it was an utterly reliable Toyota. The staff were friendly and efficent. I will be using them again on my return to Australia.

Did not mention you need to pay for km over 120 (not much) you need a $400 deposit ended up being the same cost as other car rental agents. Too many hidden costs.
