Exceptional customer service and I truly mean it! I started an online inquiry about getting into bike racing and looking for bikes to do just that. Ryan got into contact with me and through a thorough 2 weeks of perusing through Specialized's line of bikes, a couple in-person visits and test rides, and at least 50 e-mail exchanges, we finally decided on an Aethos Comp road bike. Ryan had very good knowledge and was able to answer all the questions I had. When Ryan was busy helping other customers, I got into touch with Mark who also was exceptionally knowledgeable. Both of them were super excited to talk about bikes and all the nuances that come with road racing. Kudos to the rest of the friendly staff as well. You can tell it's a very welcoming environment and everyone is eager and wanting to help. Wanted to give thanks also to the service team who helped install my new wheels on my bike in ~2 hours despite being super busy and installed a matching cassette onto my Wahoo trainer. On the day I picked up my bike, Ryan was there to help me with shoe selection, installed my Wahoo Bolt computer, crank power meter, and got all the sensors hooked up, and fine tuned the pedals and the shoe cleats so that I was able to clip in easily given it was my first time with clipless pedals. He and another gentleman helped load my bike and all of my accessories into the car at the end of the day. I felt that I was helped every step of the way and I am grateful to have shopped here. Definitely will come back to expand my bike collection in the future!!
I came to river city about 6 months ago with a coupon from Chinook Book. I was apprehensive due to the big box feel, but the more I read about them, the more I realized that they were truly local, and knowledgeable about what they do! They set me up with some mountain bike fenders (seat post and head tube mount) to get me ready for winter. I was bummed that full fenders wouldn't fit, but the mechanic there set me in the right direction. I came back recently, after getting a bike fit, to get a more ergonomic cockpit set up. One of the staff members seemed a little aloof, but I was able to connect with Lisa at the register. She helped me make my decision on components and was a great conversation maker! The handlebars I got weren't quite fitting my ergonomics, so I went back to river city a couple weeks later to try to exchange the handlebars. I was worried about the "new condition only" return policy, but I had taken good enough care of the bars for them to be accepted. I forget the staff member's name, but he helped me fine tune my final handlebar choice and even helped tighten my head tube! Great people work here, their prices are decent, and they have won over a customer. They offer services, but are also willing to educate. Treat them with kindness and respect, and they will do in kind!
The sales specialist at River City who I dealt with (Matt) was incredibly professional, helpful and patient. He was very knowledgeable in helping me make a great decision on a bike and was not pushing a sale at all but seemed genuinely interested in facilitating a pleasant experience at the store. I'm a passionate mountain biker but not a bike guru and no one there was condescending. Customer Service was excellent, selection is excellent. My only recommendation is to CHECK PRICES ONLINE before you buy here as many of the accessories I bought for my new bike were initially overpriced. However, River City was very good about price matching. Examples: Crank Brothers Candy 3 pedals I found online for $85 on sale at performance bicycles(with a very quick search) and at River City they were listed at $125 but agreed to drop the price to $95 (could not do less than that). Every other accessory I bought they were willing to price match the lowest price I could find online. So bring your smart phone to the store and make sure you aren't overpaying.
Drove 2.5 hrs from Washington to give them my business as they had the only Specialized Rockhopper in the PNW. The employee was polite and got it out in no time for me to test ride. Rode around for about 10 minutes and came back to tell him I'd take it. Before I could even tell him he said it'd be another few days before I could take it home because of quality and safety testing that needed to be done. Let him know I took a small road trip to get the bike and give them my business. He didn't even acknowledge my situation and told me to think about it. Told him I was going to get some lunch and think it over and he completely ignored me. Why would he let me test ride a bike if it still needed safety testing? I'm extremely disappointed. Unfortunately businesses like this sell out so quickly due to supply chain issues in the age of COVID that customer service is an afterthought. I'd recommend going to another shop in Portland if you have the chance.
This place is terrific. I was able to buy my daughter a bike just as the Covid crisis hit. They were extremely responsive to my questions over the phone, and I was able to pick up the bike with social distancing and without any problems. They encouraged me to bring it back for a free check after she’d ridden it for awhile and social distancing ended. As it turned out, she took a spill on it and damaged it after 2 months of daily riding. I was so sorry, as that bike is a huge part of her life right now. Riding bikes (6 feet apart) is one of the few things she can still do with friends. I called and brought it in, again they have a fantastic system set up for safety. The bike mechanic was immediately able to diagnose and fix the problem, kindly explained to me what to look for after future spills, and my kiddo is back in business the same day. We’ll be buying bikes from River City from now on. Happy to shop this fantastic local business!
I have been struggling with writing this review because in general the service is good. That said I recently purchased the female specialized diverge E5 comp in matte purple. Within a week the bike frame had countless nicks and scratches. I brought the bike back and started working with a manager to see what was covered under the warranty. The store came back to me saying there was nothing they could do. A quick goggle search revealed that I am not the only person who has struggled with the paint quality of the matte diverges. I expect a store to either stand by products that they sell or warn customers about the downside of choosing a specific make/model. If I had been warned about the problems facing the matte finish I would have selected the men's model or a different color. After I return for my 30 day tune up I will forever choose a different bike shop for all future bike purchases and services.
I am super happy with my experience at River City. The staff are very courteous and so knowledgeable without coming off too strong for a bike noob! I especially appreciated that everyone treated you like the only customer at the store, despite the fact that they were totally slammed! Like many portlanders during this lockdown I decided to get a bike and after struggling to find a store with anything in my size (#shortpeopleproblems am I right?) and found two at River City. I set up an appointment with Mark who even came in on his day off to help me get fitted and find the right bike. Mark made sure I could even pick up my new ride the next day- a difficult task with how incredibly busy they are right now! Excellent service aside, I felt like I made a good value purchase and look forward to bringing my husband through to get his own ride eventually.
This bike shop is what all bike shops should be. Friendly and knowable staff, great selection of product and accessories for bikes, and best of all, no bike snobbery elitist attitude. River City treats all riders and customers with respect, regardless of their riding experience and will get you on a bike that suits your budget and skill level. They are a full service bike shop to help with anything that needs taken care of, whether it's a flat tire, tune-up, complicated repair from an accident to full bike fit to make your ride seem like an effortless experience. The shop is closed for indoor shopping. Their website offers quite a selection of product and services. Check there first, then head to their parking lot to pickup an order or have it shipped directly to your home. Masks are required for any interaction with staff members.
Hands down the best bike shop in Portland! I bought my first road bike last year at River City and took it in today to be serviced and add new pedals. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and has never tried to up-sell me. They're honest with what needs to be fixed or adjusted and teach you along the way. The man assisting me showed me several pedal options and explained the benefits and differences of each one. When it came to the tune-up, he didn't even charge me because not enough things needed to be adjusted, however, he still tweaked a few things (also free of charge). When at the checkout, he even honored a 10% discount that wasn't going into effect until two days from now for their anniversary sale - a sale I didn't even know was going on. I couldn't be happier with River City. Thanks and keep up the good work!!
I made a trip to River City yesterday to check out Juliana mountain bikes and to test ride. The person who helped me - Sage - went above and beyond in answering my questions, helping me find the right size, and the right bike for my needs as a rider. He was super patient and helpful and never made me feel like I was taking up too much time, even though I'm pretty sure I was there for an HOUR and he had to go across the street to get the right size bikes for me to try. He even made sure the shocks were calibrated correctly when I had narrowed down my choices so I could get the absolute best idea of how the bikes feel. Thanks for such a great bike buying experience, dude. If y'all need to make a HUGE bike purchase, I highly recommend coming here and if you're lucky, Sage will be available to help you out.
In the age of buying online, supporting a local Portland business is critical. It is great that we have River City Bicycles on S.E ML King Blvd. Cycling is up over 50% and probably even more in Portland . . . necessitating good service on bikes, ensuring safety for riders. River City has stayed open during the Corona Chaos - providing safe, masked, and socially distanced services. I rely on River City for a lot of services but also for supplies . . . from my Specialized bike to tires, tubes, water bottles, and a bike computer. Sarah at RCB is a magician with repairs as are all of the employees. A shout-out to Mark for exceptional attention to detail (my new water bottle came loaded with ice water on a 90-degree day). The employees are all dedicated to the sport and committed to providing great service.
We cannot say enough good things about everyone at River City Bicycles! ALL of their staff are amazing, happy and really love their jobs, you can tell..it just shows by their knowledge, kindness and smiles-thru their masks currently. ;o) My husband and I have bought many bikes thru them in the recent years (analog and E-bikes) and will continue to do so. They always go out of their way to make sure we're happy if we have any kind of issue. From service with Brandon, Jeb and others, to the sales staff-they are seriously all great at what they do. Thank you for having genuinely fantastic people that want to help here at this store, and your E-bike location also, you guys are truly the BEST bicycle shop in Portland! Thanks so much for going above and beyond every time we visit.
I didn't buy the fanciest bike, but the staff at River City Bicycles (Matt) treated me like I was buying the fanciest bike in the store. He was patient and kind with my lack of bike knowledge, and was extremely friendly. When my bike was ready to pick up he had me take it on a ride around the parking lot. He then told me the frame might not be the right size for me (there is a bike shortage and they didn't have one for me to test out before). So he spent another 30+ minutes with me testing things out to make sure it was the right bike before I left with it. That kind of honesty and customer service is hard to come by, and is much appreciated. For this, I will always recommend River City Bicycles and will be a lifetime customer.
I loved coming here and the Belmont location. Purchased two wheelsets, multiple visits for repairs on my Diverge, along with a number of odds and ends. Last week, I purchased Giro Aether Spherical helmet in medium. Maybe it was ambitious with my M/L head, but I decided to go for it. Wore it out for one ride and had a headache nearly the entire way. Went in to hopefully exchange it for a large and there is nothing that can be done. Not sure how I was supposed figure out that it wasn't for me if not out on a ride, but now I'm out $300 bucks. I'm displeased at best. Edit: I was grumpy while writing this review. Back up to 4 stars. I just wish there was a way to take a helmet out on a ride before buying; here or anywhere in town.
Outstanding service, price, timeliness, and communication. I worked with Brandon. He was very busy juggling a few needy cyclists at once when I showed up, but somehow managed to remember our phone call and my specific needs. Brandon steered me towards more economical solutions than what I came in with, and made a few reasonable suggestions for preventative maintenance. Having called around to all the other shops in town, I was shocked by how quicker and more informative RCB was. They also got the work done way faster and on the schedule they told me initially. Work was half what the other stores quoted. They've earned my business, and I'll steer all my cyclist friends here too! Thank you Brandon :-)
I was searching for the perfect pair of Giro reflective bike shoes for my husband, and the manufacturer was sold out of the size he requested. Luckily, I found them online at River City Bicycles and they were promptly shipped across the country to New Hampshire. Unfortunately, hubby chose the wrong size and I had to do a bi-coastal swap a week before Christmas. The new pair arrived just two days later in perfect condition. Christmas is saved thanks to Vincent (online sales guy who was incredibly helpful and responsive) and Ryan who took my panicked call! I will definitely purchase items from them again.
I went in with a very narrow idea of what I wanted, just a helmet for my daily commute up to some longer weekend rides, I wasn't picky. The sales person was very friendly, quickly brought me options. When he showed me the helmet I ended up buying, he explained that it has better ventilation than other options (which is awesome, I have very thick hair and hadn't even thought of this). He also mentioned that he tends to break out less with this helmet, another thing I hadn't thought of, but being very acne prone I was sold. Thank you guys for being friendly, helpful, and swift! I love my new helmet!
Excellent Service! we showed up as a retail nightmare -- two people shopping for shoes, late in the day -- probably 10 minutes before closing time. Brandon was super-helpful, offering recommendations and getting us (he had to fetch everything we tried on from back stock) anything to try on that we wanted. Even though it was easily 30 minutes past closing time by the time we made our purchase and got out of there so they could all lock up and go home, we never felt anything but welcomed and well-served by everyone at the store. Great experience, knowledgeable staff, great selection of products.
I love this shop. We wanted to buy a Cervelo Caledonia 5 and Tarmac SL7 and were looking for a shop that retails both brands. We live in Redmond, WA but our research indicated they will be the best option. It was almost a 7-8 month process to decide and source all the parts and they were really patient and helpful throughout the process. Although we could not source the tarmac frame through them (due to us needing 44cm frame and no availability from specialized), they happily built up the bike for us. We spent significant amount of money on these bikes and I couldn’t have chosen better.
WELL DONE RIVER CITY BIKES! My experience was excellent across multiple departments. What started as a routine shock rebuild turned into extensive research from the Service Department (thanks Brandon!) and a determination repair wasn't the best option. The sales team was fantastic in answering my questions and ultimately got me onto an amazing bike. (thanks Brandon Smith!) Behind the scene the warranty department contacted Specialized and given the circumstance convinced them to help me out. (thanks Corey!) Impressive customer service and a great bike, I will certainly be back!
I purchased a new pair of cleats at RCB this morning and was blown away by how patient and kind and helpful John was. He answered all of my questions, helped me pick choose the best shoe for me, and even watched me take a few laps in the parking lot (and helped me up when I fell). I never felt pressured to buy anything more expensive than what was in my budget. Every experience I've ever had here has been the same: customer service is impeccable. Just an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and chill group of people who want to help you ride in whatever way is comfortable for you.
I have been coming to River City all the time for adjustments, servicing, buying gear, and anything else for my bike needs. I recently brought my ebike in because the breaks weren’t giving me much power. Gabe took a look, figured out my issue and went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure my breaks were up to safety standards and even gave me a small upgrade to improve the longevity of my breaks. Absolutely feels so much better to ride and cannot say enough amazing things about the team that works and supports the community here. 1000/10 would recommend and I’ll continue to come back!!!
This place was great. My wife and I each bought a bike from them about a month ago. Jay was great in helping us pick out and order the right bikes for us. When they arrived a week later, Stefan helped us choose and get installed, all our accessories. We walked out of there feeling like Stefan was a new friend. Stefan, being from Germany, and my wife, being from Venezuela, had a great, in-depth conversation about where they grew up and the changes that have gone on in the two places at different times. We highly recommend River City for their selection and outstanding service.
This was my first time coming to this shop and I have to say it was an excellent experience. I forgot the guys name who helped me but he was awesome. I'm not the most experienced rider so he could have taken advantage of that and tried to upsell me on things but he was professional and gave me honest advice. I really appreciated that. I left spending less money then I expected and got hooked up with some awesome gear. Not only him but all the staff there acknowledge me and offered help. I will definitely be returning to this shop and recommending this place to others.
I had the best bike buying experience at River City Bicycles! I worked with Brian to find the perfect gravel bike. He was extremely knowledgeable and helped me get the perfect fit. I was undecided on the frame size and he was beyond patient with me while I rode both inside and outside for over an hour. The entire buying process was enjoyable and I walked away a happy customer with the Specialized Sequoia. I took it for a long gravel ride yesterday and I couldn't be happier with my decision on the bike and where I bought it. Thank you Brian and River City Bicycles!
Awesome experience. I highly recommend River City Bikes. Covid 19 made it difficult to bike shop for my Sons 16th birthday. River City Bike saved the day. His Specialized bike is light, well made and very slick looking. Best of all, it was the same price as a clunky steel model at another store. The associates were helpful in assisting me to navigate a purchase over he phone. Everyone was polite and positive and made my purchases stress free. His bike was shipped and ready to pick up in a reasonable amount of time. I will be back to buy myself a bike soon.
I've been here countless times over the years and the service has always been awesome, but my last visit is what led me to leave this review. I stopped in yesterday to buy a BB tool and long story short they didn't have what I needed in stock. Rather than have me put off my build session the mechanic walked back to the service area, grabbed a spare tool off the shelf and told me "have fun building and just bring this back when you're done." Who does that?? Thanks to him and River City, my build is done and after weeks of work it's finally New Bike Day!
I took my 25 year old bike in to have a flat tire fixed and have it generally looked over. The service department at River City Bikes really blew me away. I hadn't called in or anything, but they fit me in that day. They were knowledgeable, so helpful, and worked with me to get my bike back in shape. The whole time they were very communicative and straightforward about the costs. Maybe it just wasn't a very busy day, but they had my bike ready for pickup in around six hours. I'll never take my bike or let my friends take their bikes anywhere else.
My girlfriend and I came in looking for a specific model, which they had, but after a little side by side comparisons found a better solution. We aren’t bicycle enthusiasts, just kind of total newbies and Christos took the time to set us up with the correct sized bikes, and found the exact models we wanted. We were out the door the same day with bikes all ready to ride. Thanks Christos! Thanks for the patience and ability yo answer our questions. We are both very happy with the experience, and will gladly recommend you and the shop to our fiends.
I went in to get my front tire fixed (got a flat) and they took care of me quickly and were wonderful. Then I had a flat on the same tire like 2-3 days after. I came back in and they took care of me and found a tiny metal sliver that was causing all the problems. They sent me on my way with a new tire and we're absolutely incredible. I really am happy with the staff the expertise and there is no better manager than Kipper (a cute doggo who demands belly rubs) this place is the real deal. Everything I would want from a neighborhood bike shop.
I bought my first brand new bike here after cycling in Portland for several years, and I've been very happy with it. They always take really good care of me when I come in from my commute after a flat or some other problem and turn my bike around fast. They get busy for sure, but they have a lot of helpful staff. This shop carries Specialized, Cannondale, Liv, and Cervelo, among others. Most bikes are priced above $500 and they have several thousand dollar bikes that are very pretty. Lots of great parts and adorable tires from time to time.
I always enjoy visiting. The service department has been helpful with all sorts of odd requests from me. The bikes that I and my friends have purchased are great, and the bike buying experience is fantastic. They take the time to really understand what you want to do, how you want to do it, and to get you setup on the best bike for it. Even if it takes multiple visits as you learn, change your mind, try different things, they're really patient and helpful. It's also nice to be able to test ride upstairs on their indoor track.
I dropped my bike off around noon. It wasn’t shifting properly and just generally riding like a POS. Sarah at RCB diagnosed the bike in 15 minutes. She even texted me the expected repairs for approval in about an hour and had it done and ready for pick up by the time they closed. They were very transparent about pricing. I was also expecting them to have my bike for a week but they only needed it for 5 hours and now my bike rides better than when I bought it. So glad this is the shop I ended up rolling into. 10/10 recommend!
River City Bicycles has been amazing! I just picked up a Cannondale Quick 4 and everyone has been super helpful with my new bike purchase and going above and beyond at every point they can. Some complications occurred (due to the manufacturer, not the store) and River City made it effortless on my part, which was much appreciated. Also communicating with them was easy. Everyone was very responsive and respectful of my time in general. My experience was great and I would highly recommend them for your cycling needs!
My bike fit with Jacob Rathe saved my life!!! I had severe neck pain and was getting migraines after long rides. I went from 300 mile multi day tours to not being able to ride 20 miles without pain. Jacob assessed my fit, made some changes to my set up, and gave me some pointers on posture, stretching, and key strengthening exercises. Almost immediately my pain disappeared, and my stoke returned. Thank you RCB and Jacob Rathe for getting my stoke back. 100% recommend, and the service shop is top notch as well!
Great location on MLK, huge inventory, courteous staff. I like getting my kid’s bikes here because they can demo upstairs on a little track rather than trying to do it outside in a not-so-safe setting. Small dedicated parking lot. If you have any suspension needs for mountain biking, ask for JP, he’s the best! Great inventory for road and mountain. It can get busy here so you might need to be a little patient or proactive about getting help. Your patience will be rewarded tho with very friendly, helpful staff.
Once again the River City service department came through for me. I called, describing a creaking sound when out of the saddle. Having crashed recently while riding this bike I was nervous about the new sound. Mike told me to drop in with it and they'd take a look. If it needed something serious I could schedule an appointment. I took the bike in, and JP looked it over thoroughly, made a some adjustments and off I went. I got to ride the bike today and no more creaking sounds. Thanks Mike and JP!
This bike shop is amazing - they're so kind and willing to help with any issues, regardless of how small or large they may be! I stopped in while on a ride and needed help adjusting the tension on my SPD SL pedal, but I didn't have the right tool. They kindly offered to assist me and also checked out my derailer and gave my bike a general once-over. The staff were really friendly and I felt comfortable asking any questions or requesting help. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable!
Bought a bike from them last March. Sales rep told me when I picked it up to bring it back after 10 to 15 hours of riding so they could do a complamentry tune up and adjust anything that needed it. When I called to bring it in the person who answered the phone said it had been to long since my purchase and I would need to schedule a tune up and pay for it. I was not given a time frame to come back, I was told 10 to 15 hours of riding. Way to back your sale, I will take it to someone else.
I picked up a bike from specialized today. I had it shipped there after buying it from the website. They built it for me. everyone was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The gentleman who helped me, I think his name was Stefan, was extremely helpful. He explained to me several items on how to up keep my bike because this is my first mountain bike. He helped me set the pressure for my shocks and so much more. I would 10/10 recommend going here for your bike needs. Thank you very much!
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I just started riding again and my bike had a variety of tire issues. Then, after they fixed everything my tire ended up being stolen a week later. I went in again and everyone I spoke with had excellent customer service. They gave me options for a replacement at a couple different price points and explained the benefits of each. While I waited for the repair I had a complementary coffee and got advice on how to secure my bike better in the future.
I highly recommend River City Bicycles at the Martin Luther King location. After signing up on their "will call" list on 3/17, I anticipated a long wait for the bike of my choice to show up due to the current backlog. But, on 3/29 Walker Devine called to let me know my bike was in, built, and ready to test ride! Walker was also extremely helpful, pointing out all of the features of my new bike and assisting me with accessories. See or ask for Walker - he'll take good care of you!
I have bought a few bikes here over the years and have always been very pleased with the service. My most recent purchase was a Specialized Roubaix Comp that I'm really loving, I was greeted by Grant when I came into the store, I already had my mind on this bike and he quickly showed it to me, confirmed it was a great choice for the type of riding I do, and set me up for a test ride, he was attentive without being pushy, he's the kind of sales person you hope to work with..
I have bought two bikes from this shop and I'm generally happy and would buy from them again. I just took my bike in for repairs and unfortunately the technician over promised on how quickly the parts would arrive. The parts were then misplaced in their shop once they arrived so I had to wait a couple of extra days. I didn't miss any rides so wasn't that big of a deal but when your bike is Promised back to you in two days and it takes four that is a little disappointing.
I would give River City Bicycles 6 stars if I could. Brice, who waited on my wife and I was extremely knowledgeable, thorough, kind and patient with providing us the best customer experience we could ever hope for. The other staff we encountered were all friendly and attentive towards helping us out as well. Kudo's to River City, it's by far the best bike shop we've been to and are so glad we found this place to both buy and have our bikes serviced in the future.
Stopped at River City today to adjust my bike seat. We were instantly approached by a bike tech to direct us to the service door. Another tech brought some tools out to us. I adjusted my seat but the rusty bolt busted. Then another tech brought out a new bolt and got us on our way. This all took place in a matter of 5 minutes when these techs were slammed with other customers, all with a smile on their face. Highly recommend River City!!! Thanks guys!
Went in to buy my young son a bike. Great bike on sale at a great price. Stefan was amazing and helped us get a bike that was the right size with plenty of room to grow into. He was great with both my son and my daughter making sure they had a good experience even though my son was the only one getting the bike that day. My son got a test ride upstairs with Stefan’s help. Definitely will go back when it’s time to upgrade my daughters bike. Thank you Stefan!
I had visited this shop to fix a rounded out screw on my seat post. The tech at River City Bicycles was able to get the screw out in no time at all. Very skilled tech, given that I had asked a few other shops before heading out to River City Bicycles. Very reasonable place -- they charged me very minimal for this. I had purchased the bike from them as well a year and a half ago. Very good bike shop in all, with very competent sales and bike service shop.
I want to take a moment to appreciate Brandon. I stopped in yesterday to pick up some odds and ends to get my bikes back up and running and had the absolute pleasure of being helped by this gent. He talked me through best choices for my projects, explained pros/cons for each application, was conscientious of price, and overall provided exemplary service. From initial greeting to end of interaction a 10/10, stand out guy. River City is lucky to have him.
I am always impressed and satisfied with River City Bicycles. The staff are patient, friendly, helpful, and in my experience, very capable of using their vast knowledge of bicycles to address each customer's individual needs, and concerns. I've actually saved a lot of money by calling them and getting clarification and fresh perspective on gear! They've assisted me in making healthy, practical choices that empower me to be a better cyclist. Thank you!
I have NEVER been in the store before, but I did just purchased a used Colnago in the Portland area. I was extremely concerned about shipping, the seller told me not to worry, "I'm taking it to River City Bicycles to have it packaged for shipping." I received my new to me bike from UPS, River City Bicycles packed that bike in the most perfect fashion I have ever seen. No marks, damage, scuffs. Just a perfectly packed road bike. Great job RCB!!
The service has always been great at River City. Within the last year I got a new bike the components I’m not as familiar with. Mike not only replaced my brakes but was super helpful explaining to me what to look out for and advice on how to maintain my brakes and chain. I’ve dealt with a lot of pretentious bike shops here in Portland. This experience was so far from that. Super grateful for Mike and his willingness to teach and listen.
It took several visits before deciding on and purchasing a mountain bike. They were always amazing. No upsale attempts, no snooty condescension, just honest, helpful, knowledgeable people making sure that your ride is perfect. Talked with mechanics about upgrades, and ride-tested probably 15 different bikes. Never encountered anyone who wasn't thrilled about bikes and people riding them. Will never go anywhere else for biking needs.
Great place to get a bike from. The lifetime adjustments and free 30 day check in are super nice. They also have a good stock of bikes which is great too. Went back recently to get my bike checked out and they still have excellent service. They filed a warranty claim for me and fixed the bike enough to keep riding it while that got sorted out. They were willing to answer all my questions and took care of me really fast.
Bought a brand new bike but whoever put it together and whoever did the service check before I could leave with it apparently didn't check it over because the chain and none of the screws had lube. Also the headset was loose. Only went here because I needed a bike asap. Don't go here for service on your bike. Customer service was good though especially by Dani. I emailed them my comments and never heard back from them.
The staff and service at River City Bikes is are top notch. Everyone I've spoken with and been assisted by at the shop has been kind, courteous and honest. In my few visits, some of the folks that have assisted me have been Mike, Sara(h)?, and Alex who all took their time to speak with me and give me a great explanation of what needed to be done with my bike. This is my go-to shop for all things cycling going forward.
Have had nothing but a superior customer experience at River City! My fiance and I each bought two bikes here in the last 6 months (one gravel, one road) and the attention, knowledge, and friendliness of the staff is unparalleled. We find ourselves stopping in multiple times a week for bike supplies and I have to say I am very impressed with the way this shop is run, even during COVID. Support local businesses!!!
Support your Local Bike Shop! Was looking for a new bike for my better half to as an introduction to road riding. The staff recommended a few bikes, sized her, and let her test ride a couple upstairs on the track. It was an amazing level of service that helped to calm any fears over riding a drop bar road bike. And to top it off, they looked into inventory and found one at a discount at the Outlet on Belmont!
My wife and I bought road bikes here a couple of years ago. Although I don't remember who helped us the Sales help at that time was first rate. Brought my bike in yesterday to have the de-railers adjusted. Sarah helped me and she was Awesome. Jumped right on it, got my bike shifting like new and didn't charge me anything. Thank you, Sarah! Continued wonderful customer service, glad we purchased at River City!
I am new to mountain biking and had a lot of questions. Decided to try out river city bicycle. I walked in and immediately got helped by a smart gentleman name jay. I had a lot of questions about buying a mountain bike and he helped me out. Was very happy with their prices, knowledge and most importantly service. For sure will be a life time customer. Thank you river city and thank you jay for all your help.
Ordered a new brake caliper from RCB - had to call to verify it was the exact part I needed. Staff were helpful verifying the part, actually looking to make the part was in stock (something that has been lacking in my hometown lately), and that it would fit perfectly. the product was shipped right away and arrived quickly. very impressed and now have another bike shop to look at when parts are needed.
River City is amazing. The staff here are so friendly and warm, they're very helpful without trying to hard sell you. The section of products is quite high and varied, with reasonable prices as well. They've got clothes, gear, and a repair shop. You can drop in to the shop, but you might have to leave your bike there depending how busy they are. Also an outlet shop a few blocks away!
I am a service manager at another shop here in town. I recently called the River City service department to get some information about a Giant bike I was servicing. The service staff was very helpful in answering my questions. I really appreciate that most of the PDX area shops share a mutual desire to give ALL of our customers the very best service possible. Thanks River City!
Bought two very nice entry level mountain bikes here, with Dani as our sales person. She was very helpful and directed us into a very nice choice in my opinion. Got a Specialized for my wife and a Cannondale for me. After working with Dani and making our purchase, I feel we couldn't have gone wrong at River City Bicycles and Dani. Thanks for the outstanding customer service...
Great bike shop that is a Portland institution!!! Just bought 2 bikes and gear to get back into biking after a 20 year break. Esteban helped my wife and I select the right bikes and helped us get the gear needed to get going. He was great at listening to our needs and offering recommendations. I feel he really went the extra mile to get us set up properly. Thanks Esteban!!!
Took two bikes in for preseason maintenance. One a 12+ year old LeMond and one a three year old Cervelo. Both bought at RCB. Scheduled the maintenance weeks in advance so only had the bike at the shop for a few days. Work was completed ahead of the promised completion date and time, price was right, and the bikes have never rode better. Highly recommend RCB for service
Like everyone right now, I was hard-pressed to find the mountain bike I wanted. A quick search led me to River City Bicycles. I ordered online and was immediately contacted by staff via email. A week later, my bike was ready. I met with Noah, who seemed very knowledgeable and set up my bike. Everyone I met with was very friendly and helpful. I’ll be back for service!
Hard to find a better local bike shop than River City. They spent over an hour discussing a good bike for me, easy ordering process, then spent another ~90 minutes with me sizing the bike to my body. The 30 day tune up went seamlessly and the online scheduling was easy. Everyone has been nice, if you needed an excuse to shop locally this place is it.
I've been to cycling shops all over the Portland area looking for the right road bike after deciding to upgrade my ride. Out of all of them, River City is the absolute best by a long shot. They have excellent customer service and ensured the bike I purchased fit me perfectly. Needless to say, my first ride on my new Specialized Diverge was a treat.
This place rocks. Shout out to Alex in service who hooked it up with instant help today. I was expecting to have to wait for days to pick up my repair and he just fixed it instantly. Talk about service. Been coming here for various bike services and purchases over the years, and I’ll keep on coming back because it’s my favorite bike shop in PDX.
I have purchased a couple of bikes from this shop over the years. I've had nothing but a great experience. What inspired the review was a simple broken pump. Sage helped me by replacing the head on an air pump. This is an amazing shop. Customer service is the best in town. They go out of their way to make sure you get what you are looking for.
The staff was helpful and couldn't have been more nice to my family and me. My only regret is that we don't live in Portland to take advantage of what I think is probably the best bike shop I've been to. Ever. If you're local, their service and support sound unbeatable---you should at least take a trip and see what they're all about.
River City Bikes has my business . after 2 other bikes shops really led me down the wrong path RCB was totally different. from the first call and dropping my bike off with Isabella everything went as it should. Bike fixed in the time frame we talked about. excellent communication and helpful . Thanks for getting me back on the road
I contacted River City about a pair of shoes they had online. They checked the stock for me quickly and let me know they had them in their shop. After they were purchased- they were shipped across the country and were on my feet in two days. I can't say enough good things about the promptness and professionalism, great experience.
I've purchased multiple bikes here. Super good staff. A very nice bike shop. Maybe even too nice. Like if you're thinking you just want to stop in real quick during your lunch break to check out some kids' bikes, don't. They will be too busy and there will be no one to escort you to the loft where those bike are stashed.
Had an unreal experience buying a bike from these guys as someone from out of town. Sweet shop to visit. I forget the names of the specific people but worked with some managers and they were great. Unreal customer service, even helped cover the cost of a break bleed after the bike was already sold. Thanks guys
Hands down best customer service I've had anywhere. Went in knowing next to nothing about bikes, after two tries walked out with a bike that I love and new love of cycling! They will be my bike shop for life. Super friendly and knowledgeable and not stuck up bike people, patient with even the dumbest question.
I stopped by today for repair costs on my bike and it turned out to be a very simple repair. The staff were very welcoming and answered all of my questions on how to maintain my bike. I walked out feeling excited to get back riding and having more confidence in how to repair my bike myself. Thank you so much!
My experience has been as expected from a top tier bike shop. I explained my requirements, they spent time with me, ended up buying a great bike for me. The prices are in line, but the service and helpfulness of every employee I have met, will keep me coming back. The free onsite parking is icing on the cake.
I worked with Bryce and had a fantastic experience. I bought a new bike there and he informed me when parts were not available or we're going to be more expensive than previously thought. He was also able to credit me for parts I no longer wanted. Overall a good bike purchasing experience.
Just stopped in to compare a few different brands of road bikes while on vacation in Portland as I dont have opportunity to test ride these brands at home. Stuart was amazing, nice and super knowledgeable. Ended up buying a bike and having them shipped it to me. Their prices are terrific!
I have been a bicyclest in SF, Seattle and now Portland for 30+ years. In those years I have gone to dozens of bike shops for all sorts of reasons. River City bikes is amazing! They have everything I wanted and more. The service was the absolute best I have ever gotten from a bike shop!
Got my new mountain bike from them, Sage was super helpful and knowledgable on Santa Cruz bikes! Someone else helped me when I picked it up and he was very kind and thorough when grabbing the items I needed since you can't go inside the store right now. Very happy with my purchase!
It was great. I like those guys! Bad news. My review just went down to 1 star. Those folks at River city charged me $15 for a simple adjustment on my son's bike. Took about 5 minutes. In other words a bike mechanic at River city makes about $180 an hour!! Seems like a rip-off to me
Such a great store for anyone who loves bikes. Needed some gravel shoes - even as a 30 year road toad, this is alien to me. Wendy was patient with questions, attentive and once I found the shoe that fit perfectly accommodated request for another color with grace. Fabulous service
Fantastic local bike shop. I have purchased three bikes in the last year from this store. I had a problem with one of them, but Brandon and Jeb handled the problem and exceeded my expectation! I highly recommend this bike shop. Yes, they are busy, but friendly and very helpful!
We have bought 2 bikes from RCB. They have a very nice variety of bikes and accessories. They have room to let you ride the bikes before purchasing. They have a shop to install the gear on the bikes in house. Their staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Go check them out!
The repair people here are awesome! I had taken my bikes to another shop and wasn't gett8ng good service. A friend recommended River City Bikes, I won't go anywhere else. They are great c9mmunicating when the repair has options and what those options are. They are amazing!
This is the best bike shop in Portland. The staff at River City is knowledgeable, patient, friendly, and helpful. River City has helped me and my boyfriend build custom bikes, order special gear, and plan our bike tours. I feel like I'm visiting friends every time I visit.
Got sent the wrong part due to a poor inventory tracking program used by 90% of online bike part sellers. When notified they searched for the right part (to no avail) and immediately emailed me a prepaid return tag. Mix ups happen and they were prompt in trying to fix it.
Helpful service, great selection, and staff that really want to help you get started riding. After talking to them and selecting a bike and accessories, I was ready to commute to work. They boosted my confidence and helped me make the transition. I love riding my bike!
My husband and I went in for new urban/commuter bikes and Brian helped us find the perfect ones, and another employee helped us fine tune them and get them out the door. We will continue going back here for all our bike and service needs. Thank you River City Bikes!
River city bikes is hands down the best shop ive ever been to. The staff is very personable and even more knowledgeable. I wouldn't go to any other shop in Portland. If you buy a bike from them toy will make sure its running in top shape for the life of the bike.
I highly recommend River City Bicycles and had an incredible buying experience with Stefan! He's extremely knowledgeable, patient and is committed to helping you find the perfect bike for you! Go there and ask for him by name! You won't be disappointed!
Excellent customer service-responsive clients' needs, knowledgeable and affable staff. Extensive catalogue of products - you're very likely to find what you need. Best half hour I've ever spent buying bike shoes and accessories. Thanks, Brice!
Hands down the best bike shop in Portland. Friendly, highly informed, and helpful staff that will go above and beyond your expectations. I've never gotten even a hint of attitude from any of the people I've dealt with here. Big selection of
I had an awesome experience at River City Bikes as a person trying to buy a bike with no idea of how to find the right one for me. Buying a bike is hard when you don't even know what questions to ask. Clinton gave me his undivided attention
Possibly one of the best bike shops in existence today, RCB's mission is to keep you on the road be it with a new bike or with what you already ride. The service department is impeccable and nine times out of ten will fix your issue on the
Felt very uncomfortable while shopping here. I am a mixed black woman and they started following me around, peaking around the corner to see if I was stealing an item that I was holding. If you are a person of color, I would not shop here.
Decent place, a bit pricey and it can be hard to get someone to help you. If you can get someone though, they seem knowledgeable, but personalities seem split between brusk and kind/patient. Bikes and components they sell Are good quality.
