"My first visit after the recent renovation and the exterior is amazing"
I've been an HPL customer since 2018. My family just moved back here August, and this is our preferred branch due to its proximity to HCC Hayes. My daughter is a student there, and I am as well, but I take my classes online and prefer not to be on campus. I come to this branch every day. Most days, I'm inside, but when it gets a little noisy or a little too "peoply," I go outside to my car to study or complete assignments. Until they got security, I had no issues. I appreciate the fact that I don't have to step over homeless people or be afraid sitting in the parking lot but I don't appreciate feeling like I'm doing something wrong because I choose to sit outside when it's too loud inside. I'm not bothering anyone. My music is not on ever, and I don't dump trash in the parking lot but almost every single day for the last 2 weeks I had the same security guard questioning me as he's doing his rounds. It's frustrating and embarrassing. I finally explained to him why I chose to sit outside in my car sometimes instead of being inside, and he said he understood, now he doesn't bother me. Which is awesome. He is 1 of 2 security guards that I have seen that are really great, but the 1 black lady has a very nasty attitude and is disrespectful. If she's here when I come, I just leave. You don't have to be nasty and rude to people to do your job. The staff here is amazing, and that 1 security guard is making everyone look bad.
Absolutely wonderful library. One of the best I've visited in the Houston Public Library system. Also, just note, this is NOT Harris county public library. This is city of HOUSTON. The staff are very friendly, direct, lively, and helpful and they actually teach you how to use the library and not hold your hand and coddle you. I like that they seem like they are not being forced to pay attention to you and that it's natural. Signs of great management. I really appreciate that in this day and age. The branch is very clean and granted it isn't as quiet as you would expect a traditional library to be, but that's what attracts me, it's not so quiet. The only thing I don't like is the lack of print areas and study rooms. They have a plethora of study spaces, but one printer? Bah. Not cool. This library totally needs more than one print station. At least they have mobile printing that is on the website and a little QR code, I thought that was cute. All in all, this is a library worth coming to daily, weekly, or monthly. Very nice, clean, and modern.
There’s an overzealous female security rent-a-cop just glaring at anyone walking in, making it less than comfortable or enjoyable (like it’s a prison yard). And, I witnessed her and a male employee go and harass a black male senior citizen, and tell him they can tell he’s falling asleep ( as he was sitting using a computer) and he would have to leave if he falls asleep. He was obviously working and not bothering anyone when they went to harass him. What if he has a medical condition? There was no regard for seeing how to help him, if indeed, they felt he was dozing off. What if he has a disability? It was absurd. The City of Houston should not allow seniors in public libraries to be harassed and embarrassed like this.
I had really high expectations for the reopening of this library, however it let me down tremendously. For a library, it has significantly less books available to read on site than the previous one. It is possible that I might of missed a secret section or something but I doubt it since I walked around the library twice and didn’t notice any other signs that might of let me in to where the books were. The use of the space is really poorly designed. There is so much open space and not enough tables and chairs where people can sit and read. What this library is missing is a cubicle like section in which people can sit quietly and study. There is so much I can continue to say about this library but I will save it.
My first visit after the recent renovation and the exterior is amazing. It has a Mid-Century Modern design with flat roof. I'm loving the architecture! It's conveniently located in Westchase District on Wilcrest at Richmond Ave. The staff is super friendly and very professional. They offer Free WiFi and you can sign in to use computers as a Guest or a Patron. Check out the Fashion Fusion White Straight Jacket Dress featured in the Di Wu Exhibit of Closing In 2019. Read the inset photo for more details on Mental Health. Please note that the hours on the door for Monday and Thursday are not correct. Library opens on Monday and Thursday at 12 Noon. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:00AM Friday at 1:00PM
THEY'RE FINALLY OPEN! Well they've been open but now people can come inside and check out books. My kids and I have been coming to this location for years! They used to have story time for toddlers and young kids as well as arts and crafts. Not sure if they offer that anymore due to covid. MASKS ARE NOT REQUIRED although you can wear them for your safety. There's a kiosk upon arrival, right at the front door that'll take your temperature. This library is always clean and organized. The staff is always courteous and helpful. We hadn't been to the library in over a year yet I was able to get a replacement card within minutes. I'm very happy they are back open and my kids can get back to loving reading again.
I have to give this library 3 stars because they have great customer service but the nosy level is ridiculous for it to be a library. I have been to this library at various times on different days and its just amazes me how people are here using there normal to high voices and unfortunately when children comes in its even worse. I haven't seen it where it was just one full hour of silence. Maybe there needs to be a children's library and a library for just adults. People don't turn off their phones or converse with their friends.. LOUDLY! don't understand why they don't get kicked out. I want to like the place but this is just unacceptable. Sorry.
Just enough of everything in a compact library. Separate sections for teens, adults, and children with a stronger child focus just due to need for space. Copious computers on a virtual setup so your session has little to do with those who come in after you. Very wheelchair accessible. I’ve only been to three public libraries in my life. The huge one downtown dominates and takes stars from this and the other for services available. Little to be done about that. Excellent for its size.
Came to check this library out since I live a block away. I presented my Drivers License and UH school ID yet they wouldn't let me obtain a library card. My address was correct I receive mail there it is my permanent address I had a temporary address for Houston, hence Im a college student. I'm not going to change my license address to a temp college apartment. 1 stars because of their assumption I want to steal a $10 thiller novel and not assisting me.
A very nice place to be for a book lover/ parent with bored kids. My son loves going here. Lot of variety to choose from- fiction, general knowledge, mythology, bilingual and so much more. It’s a great place to encourage reading habit in children. Plus the staff! Friendly and very helpful! They also have fun filled programs for the young ones.
I really like this library. Recently reopened. Nice layout, various reading places including quite study room, nice natural light and friendly staff. At the same time, I must say they have limited books. One has to put books on hold (advance booking) to get them transferred here in this library.
The opposite of a tardis--smaller on the inside. Funky smell and very lacking book selection, though there is a large reservation shelf so I bet they have decent library transfers. Lots of computers and tablets. Not really worthwhile for me personally, but may be so for others.
Nice and clean! The lay out is open and bright. Love the new built in dryer at the sink. Help my kiddo love to wash hand after u know what. And returning items and paying fine much easier without waiting in line at the machine. Easy to use. Even I can do it
The Robinson-Westchase Branch is my go to HPL location. The staff are very knowledgeable & very helpful! They also have a wonderful DVD collection for checking out. Lots of unique titles, independent & classic films. Plenty of computers to use too.
Wow! Gorgeous library, with very helpful staff and plenty of tablets and desktop computers available, modern-ish comfy furniture/design and a spacious, well-utilized layout. Highly recommend! Great place to kill a few hours.
Convention location and the staff is extremely helpful. Only issue, incorrect charge for copies, library quotes $.30, their vendor charges my bank account $1.00. and the library offers no resolve. I want my $.70 back.
One of.the best library in Houston. Beautiful building with. All we readers need. Study room is the one that attracted me. Good staffs, best utilities and accessories for kids and adults. Lots of books.
The best local library ever. I use it to checkout library books for my toddler and I. Also good for a quiet moment with computer work. Staff is always polite and helpful. I love this place.
Very poor service. I felt very uneasy being glared at by the female security guard, and then I chose to leave when she began to harass a senior citizen who they thougt was asleep.
This library is so convenient and it’s morw modern now that it’s been remodeled. They have story time for toddlers and events every so often. There’s kind and very helpful staff.
Very happy our neighborhood library is reopened. My kids loves this library, they want to be in the library everyday. Looks great and equipped with advanced technologies.
Clean and spacious place. Kind and supportive staff. Great neighborhood library for parents to bring the kids to check out some books home and also spend a bit time
My favorite place at Houston. So modern , so new, so clean and best library. Come and enjoy of books. A lot of mordern books also for kids have many books and toys.
This was my first visit. Kat is such a gem! Helpful, kind, professional and genuine. Told her I was looking for a quiet place to study & she kindly gave me a tour.
So glad to be back in the library again. Service is great. They check your temperature when entering the building and that's fine with me. Keeping everyone safe.
A partir de que edad se podran llevar los niños mi niño tiene 2 años y a veces no encuentro un lugar para llevarlo a jugar si alguien me pidiera decir …
Nice library if you have kids, the selection of adult books is pretty small, though of course you can put holds to have books from other branches sent over
The staff is amazing. They are very courteous and knowledgeable when it comes to computer issues. They're personable, and make you feel warm and welcomed.
The new building is absolutely stunning, great design, when you walk in it feels like a cathedral plus the stuff is very friendly and helpful
Kendall is still closed and it was my first time coming here. Really nice customer service and they have all the new amenities.
So glad they're back open! I enjoy coming to this library. It's small, but always quiet and neat. The staff are all so nice.
Great study spot! Plenty of seats and tables. Very spacious and quiet! Only wished it was open for a bit longer on Fridays!
It is such a beautiful library. People do love to come here and I can see why. It's the perfect size to feel right at home.
It's closed they do curbside only. You can get them to print your documents for you though. The ladies very accommodating.
I love this library it's nice and the staff is awesome and my kids love coming to this library. Come check it out!!!
HPL Curbside to GO! Drive up, call up, and your holds will be delivered to your car by a friendly HPL staff member.
Brand new, spacious, good staff, excellent facilities, computers, age grouped areas by adult, teen, & children .
Leslie was a great help I felt like I wasted her time but thankfully she kept reassuring me all was good
It would be helpful to have a notice or sign of some sort to let the public know when it will reopen.
First time going there after new renovation and it was great experience !very helpful and friendly
Wonderful public library. Modern and quiet. Print and copier area and services could be improved.
Great place to study. I love the photography exhibit. Can't wait to see what they have next.
Noise, not supposed in library, talk, laugh, even those workers talk and laughing a loud.
It was almost closing time when I got there. It was mostly quiet, and everyone was nice.
Why a library not open on Sunday? It should open seven days a week. Appreciate it though
Great service. I love to attend the baby storytime at this location with my little one.
Finally open after closure of more than a year. Masks and temperature required.
Great library. They have convenient kiosks for checking books in an out.
I found every thing I needed quickly, finished my work, and kept moving!
I always love going to this library. So relaxing and nobody bothers you
Beautiful after last remodel, but not enough space for adult fiction
Love this library. The staff are amazing super friendly and helpful!
Great lay out. A lot of light and space. Kid’s friendly. Kind staff
