A walking tour of Marc Brunel's spectacular first sub-surface Thames crossing. Actually, the first sub-surface crossing of any navigable river anywhere in the world. A little dirty, as you might expect for a working train tunnel, but Grade 2* listed and the first tour available since 2014. I hope the pictures do it justice.

Handy tunnel that allows you to take a shortcut underneath the River Thames rather than having to go round it. Dropped a star because of the draconian parking restrictions inside the tunnel. We had to finish our picnic in a layby on the A11.

SE16 is always nice, it has the new builds and modern dining, but it has also retained traditional village aesthetics i.e. The Brunel Museum, The Mayflower Pub, The Angel Pub near the Riverside and the period buildings from the area.

The station itself is compact and unassuming, but these modest surroundings hide an historical achievement that amazed the Victorian world. As you walk down the stairs to access the platforms, you can see dirty brickwork

Nice Overground station with trains going to Highbury and Islington West Croydon & Clapham Junction. There is no disabled access to the platforms on escalators from the ticket hall to the top of platforms then stairs.

One of the best neighbourhoods in London, very historical, great pubs like Mayflower and Angel, perfect views on the city and Canary Wharf, few parks and great connections via Overground

  • Dan Fletcher

Quiet but pointless as you could just get on at canada water. Not as new or nicely furnished as close by canada water but lots of train services (every 3-4 mins)

Unprofessional staff they don’t know anything rotherhite to Clapham junction he said let me check on my phone and told me Long journey who hired these people

The stop is nice but you have to be careful, since there are trains longer than the platform and depending on which car the doors do not open. :)

Local overground service. Handy for overground lines into city or south. No lift service and quite a few stairs. Little coffee shop in entrance.

Good thing it has a ticket office however the station feels a bit run down, especially with the sound of running water present.

  • Joseph Woods

Friendly staff. Frequently Wet floors on the stairs and platform due to the nature of the tunnel structure wet gets through.

  • Darrell Huntley

I like this station because it amuses me to hear Americans attempt to pronounce it correctly. Its the little things

  • Flavio Recchia

Quiet promenade in a lovely area full of pubs and people where to chill with a beer and a some friends!

  • Waipu Scottish Migration Museum

No wheelchair access. But also no indication that there is none.
