This place is fabulous Spent 2 hours on a Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00 here. No crowds, a very large group of seniors was coming in as we left, I think you can get guided tours. I hadn't been since I was a kid at the old location. I'm a little disappointed as I don't think they have as many aircrafts on show as they used to, but that's ok. I brought my 4 & 6 year old and as soon as we walked in the lady at the front told us about the play place and suggested we wait to do that last as we would never get our kids out of it to see the museum. The play place is tucked away but still great and very helpful information!! They have a place to hang jackets and even small free lockers. We started by going left on the main floor, into the main museum with all the aircrafts. So many hands on stuff for the kids to touch and play with, they loved it. Big wide walkways so you dont feel like your intruding on other people space. Then we went upstairs, less excitement up there. There is a big window to see planes coming in, but we never saw any. Then headed back down to the play place, which of cours, the kids loved. It's listed for ages 5 to 12, but my 4 year old was just fine, I think 12 might be a little old for this. They have a large bench to sit and watch the kids. They also have about 5 tables to sit and eat a packed lunch. They have a snack bar that honestly could use some work, don't count on it for much. Only bbq chips, goldfish crackers, rice crispy squares, chocolate bars, and drinks (but nothing diet). And a great gift shop on the way out. Honestly, over all, we had a blast! Will for sure go back, maybe yearly.

Visited with my five year-old grandson on Monday, July 31. This was his first visit and my first visit to the new museum. This museum is an aviation dream for me. The new museum is very well laid out, bright and clean. The displays have several good angles from which to take photos. The descriptive story boards and smaller sub displays of artefacts are interesting and well put together. The amount of interactive displays is very impressive and I'm so appreciative having these available for an active little boy. Whether it was the cockpit of the Voodoo, the Musketeer, the touch wall or the Viscount, every bit of interactive action was enjoyed immensely. His favourite displays were by far the Musketeer, which still had all control surfaces active, and of course the Viscount. Did you know there were 48 seats on the Viscount? We sat in each one! The kids climbing gym was a huge hit for my grandson. Very well designed with a clever space theme for the little astronaut. He did a few rounds in the pedal planes, which are a great design and idea. To top things off, the staff were fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, engaging. Huge kudos to this team.

Spent around an hour and a half learning about airplanes. The exhibits showed how aviation played a role in shaping Manitoba. I recommend a visit for those who love history. Although most exhibits reflect civilian aviation, there are a few that deals with the military. Also learn about Queen Elizabeth’s relationship with Winnipeg, and some of the aviators who flew for the Royal Canadian Airforce. I also appreciate the exhibit on the role that aviation played with residential schools. It’s a sensitive subject but kudos to the RAMOWC for touching on this. It’s good to know they’re playing their part towards truth and reconciliation. A lot of videos are available for museum goers, and some interactive exhibits. I was able to sit inside a cockpit of a jet fighter as well. The $15 price of admission is worth it and I recommend a visit. It’s a Winnipeg hidden gem for sure.

We recently visited the Royal Aviation Museum, and we were surprised how huge it was! We loved exploring the various galleries. From learning about the incredible women in Canadian aviation to discovering the intriguing stories behind recovered plane wreckage, we were completely immersed in the experience. One of the highlights was getting to ride in a smaller plane. Though it did not fly lol it was fun and gave us a taste of the aviation world. Oh, and we can't forget the vintage Air Canada passenger plane – it was a true blast from the past! Honestly, one day wasn't enough to fully appreciate everything the museum has to offer. We're already planning our next visit because we simply can't get enough. If you're into aviation or just looking for a fantastic day out, the Royal Aviation Museum is an absolute must-visit. Trust us, it's worth it!

An excellent museum that I was happy to find was walkable from Winnipeg airport, having arrived to find my flight was delayed. Time flew by reading about all the planes and Canada's unique history of flight. A particular highlight was talking to Bob (who at time of review volunteers on Tuesdays) about his experiences in the CF-104 Starfighter and other planes. If you happen to be there on a Tuesday, I would recommend seeking him out if you can. There is an area where you can listen in to air traffic control and watch as the planes take off from the nearby airport, as well as a kid's section teaching and demonstrating the principles of flight. All in all a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon – especially if you have some time to kill before a flight!

And finally this museum re opened! :) We missed it! Been coming here with my son for years, he loves everything that flies and especially for winter months it's a great place to entertain child for at least a couple of hours (highly recommend purchasing membership to save on visits). As the old museum of aviation this one has lots of items to showcase, a short movie about a crash plane with leftovers displayed, playground for children, snack bar and giftshop. Lots of washroom, motorized scooters, coat rack and view lounge. I heard there might be even classes for children (unfortunately employee couldn't give me any detailed information). Otherwise a really enjoyed coming back for reopening staff is extremely friendly, helpful and passionate about aviation and they are happy to share their knowledge with visitors.
We kept seeing this place driving home after flights and decided it was time to check it out. It was more than I thought it was going to be. And more interesting. My favorite thing was the old passenger airliner that you can go into and sit in and touch stuff. Things have certainly changed..... Lots of airplanes. Lots of plaques. Lots of information. If you go with an airplane nerd just let them go, let them graze as long they need to, there's a lot to take in. You'll find enough to do while they wander, there's benches. Oh, and an observation site where you can watch planes taxiing on the airport runway. Schedule at least two hours here, more if you have a husband that loves airplanes and reading every. single. plaque...
Lovely place!! We personally were not super into planes but we really enjoyed learning about everything and reading the stories. We spent 1 hour there and looked at everything. For an aviation enthusiast, I’m sure this place would be amazing. There’s lots on display, interactive walls, bits about the role of aviation in space and war, and stories. It’s a very spacious and clean place. Not busy at all—mainly families. Staff was super nice. There is a coatcheck and free lockers. There is also a gift shop. This was a nice place to go to before our flight. It’s right next to the airport.

Entry fee and parking were pretty average in terms of pricing (21$, 5$ Parking and 16$ entry). The Museum itself appeared small in pictures but it is definitely bigger. Many amazing and beautiful planes and very nice staff too. You can even sit in some planes/simulators and press buttons or take pictures. If that's nothing for you, there's a corner right upstairs with a telescope which lets you see the runway of the YWG airport. We finished our visit at the Souvenir shop. Great experience in general and I would definitely recommend visiting the Museum if you are into planes.

It's beautiful place, but if you have children I feel as if its geared towards older teens / adults. Not much interactive stuff, only 2 planes you can go into. Admission is steep and parking isn't free. You can wander about and complete it in under an hour. The outside part was lackluster. Staff weren't the friendliest, and we had one usher us out of the air canada plane because a school group was walking through? We paid to be here. I'm pretty sure we can look at whatever for as long as we'd like. I wouldn't come back.

Loved it. We had been wanting to check it out since it opened and then we moved away. I had been to the old one numerous times, and the new facility is very nice. We took our kids as well as a friend and her special needs son. The staff were very accommodating and professional. There were lots of interactive exhibits that we all enjoyed and the kids all learned a few new things. The observation deck was also a favourite as we were all able to watch planes land, take off, and taxi. Great way to spend some time.

It’s a fantastic place!! We love all the aircraft in the museum!! You can see floatplanes, fighters, old Air Canada, and more!! I really enjoy my afternoon in the museum!! All the workers are friendly and nice, I feel welcome. A good place for kids to be there, too. There are so many things for them to plan and look at, you might spend 3-4 hours in there! Just right beside the Winnipeg airport and easy to park! I can’t wait to visit again!

*Update* I went to see the new building, very nice layout. The only complaint I have, and I hope they bring it up with Transit, is no bus stop close to it. Pretty long walk for people with mobility issues.** Very interesting! Lots of airplanes and history packed into the hangers. It should be even better when they get the new location up and running. Love it when they bring in the old but still flyable planes for special events. They do need to advertise those better. Too often you hear about it after the fact.
Really interesting museum with a lot of educational areas and some pretty cool historical exhibits made interactive and interesting. One of the areas meant for the kids, but where I had fun was activating the engines of various aircraft through history. O, and you get to board an airliner and sit in cockpits of Airforce aircraft as well Last, but not least, the staff are supremely nice, knowledgeable and helpful

Had an amazing time at the museum. We were a part of the guided tour and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We also had the opportunity to enter a few of the aircraft on display. Most of the displayed exhibits are restored to its original condition and still work, at least that is what we were told. If you’re at the airport and have sometime to kill then I would recommend you visit this place.

Brought my 3.5 year old not sure how engaged he would be and we had a ton of fun. Had a hard time leaving, in fact. The galaxy exploration station was definitely our favorite. I personally really liked the ability to see all the flight paths of the planes in the air over the map at one of the interactive stations on the second floor. Lots to see, touch and experience here for all ages!

I was looking forward to an updated building and showing my kids some of the favourites. Key items were the scale model of the Bonnie which their great grand father served on and the cockpit model from the Avro Arrow. The arrow got a wall decal with very little mention. I’m sorry but there can only be so much interest in bush planes but it feels like that is over 50% of the focus

Had a great visit to the Royal Aviation Museum. I was there for about 2 hours and paid $5 for parking. The museum has 2 floors with lots of planes to view and even a retired Air Canada plane to walk through. There is also an activity place for kids to play and also a fee for younger kids to ride a pedal plane. The volunteers are very friendly and helpful.

As a single parent with five children 10 and under (one of them being special needs) the staff were just phenomenal. Incredible displays, and the top it all off, they have an indoor play structure to help the children burn off extra energy. Update: again, always a great place to take the children! I take them there because they keep asking to go:-)

My two-year-old grandson loves it here. There are cockpits he can climb into to pretend to fly the plane, an observation deck where he can view planes arriving and departing from the airport, and a small play area with slides that is one of the best I've ever seen. And I have to mention, too, the truly excellent gift shop. This museum is a gem.

Our first visit to the renovated Aviation Museum. We were impressed with the display and notes by the displays. Easy to have a great look at the planned from all sides. The observation area was well spaced. We were very impressed by the loan of a motorized wheelchair. This gave one of our party a great opportunity to see all of the museum.

Wonderful place to go to kill a couple of hours. The facility is nice and new. Great displays with a lot of information. There is technically no fee to get into the museum but if you park in its parking lot then there is a 5$ fee. Honestly, it is worth it if you do drive, keeps the car close and supports the museum.

This musueum featured mostly civilian planes used to explore and traverse Canada. I enjoyed the history and selection of planes, but the Air Canada passenger plane walk-through was a walk through time and a real treat! I can't wait to bring my boys here on our next trip to Winnipeg.

A purpose built interactive aviation museum, which follows the inception of air travel in Canada to space expedition. It's wheelchair accessible on both floors and has a washroom. Recorded plane engine sounds can be found across the hall from entry and the Ghost plane's story of a 30 year expenditure makes the experience surreal. It's a place kids would love to visit
Was wonderful seeing the new facility. The RCAC glider really took me back- flew in old #5 at Rivers. And I loved seeing the helicopter game from the airport terminal- I played that machine many times when I would go with my Dad- he worked there with Transport Canada.

A well presented museum. Nice variety of aircraft both passenger and Canadian forces. Staff are very helpful, there was a display that required a “tour” in order to board the craft, staff member took us aboard and gave us the tour, super cool and thank you! Worth a visit, they were doing a kids birthday party as well, good community interaction.
Visiting the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, was a great experience for myself and my family. There is so much to look at and interact with, my kids loved going so much that they asked to come visit again, even before we left the first time.

Extremely well kept. Newly restored F86E on the way as well for a surprise next year. Many other jets & CAE simulators available for display and sit in as well. VC10 Air canada also available for a walk through. The shop has some amazing books worth taking a look. Great job guys!!
Really great record of aviation history. We had a tour guide and he really added a lot of information. But it's easily toured on your own with a lot of signs you can read through. We were there on a Thursday afternoon and it was pretty quiet - not empty just quiet. More

About a 10 minute walk from the airport, the museum has some pretty cool stuff like a salvaged wreck and decommissioned WWII era planes. The museum staff are also some of the nicest and most welcoming people ever, a big thank you to them.
A must go. It's more than aircraft. It's Manitoba + Winnipeg = did this really happen? The people who lived, worked & flew in/from our province were/are outstanding. From bush planes to Black Brandt rockets, from Starfighters to
