"Really great Thai restaurant on Elizabeth Street in Hobart"
"Overall: I’d give this one a miss! The service is pleasant and courteous but it all ends there"
"Had good experience in past that's why went again"
Don’t know from where to start…. Had dinner with family on Sunday night at 5:30 and was greeted very nicely by an Asian man. After that a pretty Chinese girl served us and to our surprise the dishes didn’t look like authentic Thai as we are regular Thai eaters. Chicken screwers, Tom Yum soup, Chilli Basil fried rice, Green curry, Cashew nut and Chilli Basil stir fry was what we ordered and it all was a disaster one after another, we didn’t complain as we were from Sydney and thought that will never be there again so not to spoil their business by writing negative review. Unfortunately, I have to as since Sunday night all members are terribly sick and cannot even breathe as they use vinegar in all their dishes instead of lemon.Chichen was stale and in vegetable mostly put onion and some Chinese Veges never seen before. Lesson Learned, do not go to empty restaurants as they are empty for a reason. Be aware everyone…. Tip to Chinese owners: Open a Chinese restaurant and you will do much better. God bless you.
Thai has become one of my favourite foods to eat and the dishes at Royal Thai only reinforced this. I've almost covered most Thai restaurants in North Hobart and this almost felt like I'd left the best for last. I was met with friendly service as soon as I had walked in. I already had an idea of what I was going to eat. I started off with Golden Cups as an entree $10.95 for 4 cups) which tasted great. I followed it up with Gai Katiem $18.95) for the main. This was possibly some of the best garlic chicken I've had so far. There's a nice ambience inside and the staff really did a great job with service being friendly and helpful. The next time I go I think it'll with a few friends so we can take on one of the buffet deals and try a nice selection of a few different dishes. Great job Royal Thai.
Really great Thai restaurant on Elizabeth Street in Hobart. Firstly this restaurant has a great vegetarian menu. From this we ordered the vegetarian Pad Thai and the tofu with cashews. Both of which were really good. For dessert we had a mango with sticky rice, which was also excellent. The restaurant also has quite a good wine list full of Tasmanian wines. None of the wines on the list appeared to have any significant mark up, which is an added bonus. We had the 2018 Freycinet Vinyards reisling off the list, which was a real winner. Plus the staff could not be more helpful and friendly. This restaurant comes recommended.
Overall: I’d give this one a miss! The service is pleasant and courteous but it all ends there. The food feels more Chinese rather than Thai, missing the delicate fresh flavors and leaning towards the heavy sauce based food. The food was quite disappointing and most mains felt like a Chinese stir fry rather than fresh flavors associated with Thai food. Our suspicions were confirmed when the wait staff informed us that the chefs have recently changed and the new owners are also Chinese themselves, thus translating into the flavors of the dishes.
Had good experience in past that's why went again... food was so disappointing... & worst part is customer service... We ordered vegetarian fried rice which was included with vegetables & tofu... they forgot to add tofu & rice was only full of cabbage & capsicum & 2 piece of Broccoli.. we did asked to add egg & got charged $2 , but they forgot to add tofu, still we have been charged fully ( even on asking abt it).. so how does that workout... very unethical people...
My wife and I were walking back from town and just popped in on a whim because it looked very laid back, elegant, inviting but not crowded. We ordered pork Moo pad ped mamuang and vegetable green curry which arrived very quickly with lovely friendly service. Reasonably priced quality dining. Highly recommended.

So disappointed with our food. It was the worst Thai I have ever had. We ordered a special fried rice that was supposed to have chilli in it and be spicy. There was no chilli, it was greasy and full of frozen carrots, corn, and peas. It was meant to be king prawns and chicken. There was literally 1 prawn! And the Massaman curry was so sickly sweet we didn't even eat it. How this restaurant survives I cannot imagine.
My girlfriend and I went to have our dinner there. Service was excellent, and food was amazing. Pad Thai was perfect, flavour is unique. My girlfriend ordered a dried rice with pineapple, it was delicious. Both dishes were a good portion. We will come back for sure

We have a great night celebrating our wedding anniversary here in this restaurant! Foods were so delicious! Plus we were treated with two glasses of champagne for our special day! The Staff were very friendly, polite and so gentle and the service is excellent! We will definitely come back here again for our next holidays and it’s highly recommended if you love Thai foods!
Having enjoyed a delicious meal last time I visited Royal Thai, I was terribly disappointed in the takeaways that I got this evening. Our Royal Pad Thai was OK save for some tough tofu? and one prawn only per serve. The real letdown, however, were the burnt and totally dried out Thai fish cakes, obviously substandard, which should never have been allowed to leave the kitchen. Shame!
I found their soup ok, lacking serious vegetables but the broth was nice. It was the coconut galangal flavoured soup. Fried rice was average. The carrots weren’t cooked at all and considering there was no one in the place I would expect attention to detail/taking your time to cook properly. I’ve been here before a few times. It’s ok, but I would say average to ok. Sorry guys!
I am an international Thai food tester who traveled little less than 40 countries, Thailand among them. A great menue, nicely structured, perfect ammount of choices. Authentic, modern stylish, comfy atmosphere. Wonderful staff. For the quantity and quality of food you get, they are cheap. Alcohol license with many choices. Had a wonderful time there.
Wonderful restaurant with wonderful staff beautiful food with very relaxing atmosphere it's a pleasure to eat there

Good food, dine-in three times expensive than take-away and seems unjustified as they are served come from the same kitchen. For a family of 4 dine-in will cost you around $160 for 4 mains and a glass of wine for 2 adults. Mains quantity was less for a proper adult serve, we had to order an extra serve of green curry and rice bowls to share.
Beautiful spot with elegant decor and food was A W E S O M E Loved it, best green curry in Hobart so far. Yes, a little pricy but definitely worth every single cent! My 3 years old daughter enjoyed the Pad Thai too and enjoyed the vibe. And oh, before I forget, Service was amazing. Thank you Royal Thai, we’ll be back for sure!
Great service, food amazing. Staff helpful and friendly. Try the prawn cakes, tom yum, curries and stirfrys. It was really tasty and filling

We had trouble finding a Thai restaurant we liked the look of in the CBD, so we walked a little further to North Hobart to find this place. It was quiet, with a beautiful, spacious dining room, and excellent food served by friendly staff. (The roti was crunchier than we’ve encountered elsewhere; we really liked it.)
We have been there 3 times and every time the food was consistent and very tasty. Great hospitality. We decided to have our graduation dinner there for 25 people, it was definitely worth it. Food was great even though we all ordered ala carte. Definitely one of our favourite restaurants now.
Very accommodating for our large family group, polite helpful service.

Delicious authentic Thai, we had the satay chicken stir fry and the massaman curry. Satay was to die for, massaman was good but pieces were a way too big for chopsticks. Staff treat you very well. We will definately be back! Thank you to both front and back of house staff.
Came for dinner. Service was prompt and friendly. The pad siew was so tasty. The spring rolls also extra tasty. I have few food intolerances so really appreciate that the menu is detailed.

I have eaten a lot of Thai food and this would be one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. I ordered Pad See Ew chicken, but the meal was more like Pad Thai, with thin uncooked noodles, an overly sweet sauce and minimal vegetables. Overpriced and very disappointing.
What happened this isn't chicken larb what where is the mint? The chillies, the lime juice, the toasted rice? Why is it packed full of carrot larb is green not orange :((( I'm sad now

Pescitarian dish had chicken in it. Not mentioned in online description. No fresh veggies or herbs in N4 Overpriced big fat noodles and super ordinary sauce. So disappointing. Nothing authentic about this food. Back to fish and chips on a friday for me..
I had this spicy fried tofu with apple salad and tasty sticky dressing as an entree (really for two people), so good, nice and hot. I definitely will go back for that entre. I ordered as well a veg curry but I was more in love with that new entre dish!
The best Pad See Ew I have had in Australia. Service was also fantastic really friendly staff. Definitely recommend if you are in Hobart as a local business to support!

Really overpriced ($30 for a main), and the food was very disappointing. Not terrible, but far from the best Thai food I've had. Easy to see why the restaurant was empty! Slow service too Weird gimmick to have the food delivered by a robot....
So far, this is the best dish I have eaten in Australia, and I will always love Tom Yum Kung Soup. We are very touched by the enthusiastic service of the boss! We will eat again next time.

Ordered the pineapple fried rice and I can't say enough how much I loved the dish. It was juicy, tasted great and temp was just perfect. Decent size portion with the prawns as well. Definitely worth the value
One of the best Thai restaurants I have been to in a long time and I am 65 years of age the food is fantastic as is the friendliness of waiters and staff. Highly recommend and compliment the owners and staff.
Delicious Food - Atrocious Service There is nothing more satisfying than a delicious meal and then staring at you empty plate for the next 40 minutes Staff were friendly but hopeless. I wouldn't return

Dinner was delicious and the restaurant is lovely with Thai dresses and other decorations on the walls. Lots of choices where you don't have to have spicy. Would definitely recommend for a meal
Great meal very fresh veg with your meal spicy and hot if you want its up to you i found the sevice was outstanding and attended to your every need recommend it to anyone who likes Thai food
Both main course and dessert were tiny with only two Prawns and a spoonful of chicken mixed in with the main. The staff were very pleasant but the meal was a real letdown and overpriced.

Good food, but overpriced. And literally 3prawns in a dish shouldn't be advertised with just prawn. Service was good and nice staff. But price is doesn't match the quantity.
The staffs are very friendly and the place is nice with traditional Thai decorations. Food is yummy as well. We do love the homemade sauce that they add to stir fried dish.
So delicious, first time in 2yrs since going to Thailand we have had a Thai meal that tastes like we are back in Thailand. Throughly enjoyed. They even do Thai hot...
We had a great meal. Everyone got what they ordered, which doesn't often happen with large groups. The staff were very nice and helpful. Look forward to going back.

We ordered two dishes for takeaway and oh my lord, they were so effing hot! The bottom of the soup had almost 5 chillies. The meat was alrite though.

What a joke - $19.50 for a vegetarian curry with only a few pieces of tofu and some vegetables - mostly liquid. That's not fair.

nice food, fresh veggies but my meal was a bit spicy- it would have been nice if they thought to ask how hot i would like it
Our serving size was pretty big and the curries were delicious (as expected). Certainly high-end but good value nonetheless.
Their service is lovely. The staff took us in even though they were about to close in 15 mins. Had such amazing food! : )
Food not very tasteful. Pad Thai tasted blend, and like spaghetti. Other dishes were equally not very authentic.
Only been the once, but will being going back, great menu, perfect service and plenty to choose from the cellar
Fantastic service and incredible food!! Couldn't rate it any higher it was perfect!! Best Thai I've had!
Best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand. Big portions, reasonable pricing and biiiig on flavour.
Tasty food and the best service! Would highly recommend for a nice night out with a delicious meal.
Delicious food. Great service. Lovely behan options. Beautiful restaurant.. reasonable in price.
So disappointing to ask for heat / chilli in the massman beef and its simply ignored. Very mild
A delightful experience with great food , friendly warm staff and a special ambience. …
Had takeaway here. Was nice and quick and tasty food. Would come back again if in the area.
Excellent food, exceptional customer service with a sticky situation. Love this place!!!!!
Had an awesome Pad Thai from here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.
Had a great night out with friends, we all had fantastic meals and staff were excellent.
Always have nice food although we only ever do takeaway. Prices are quite reasonable.
Great customer service. Food was good but did not have fried ice cream on the menu
Lovely food. Service can be a little slow but overall well worth dining here.
Food is amazing. The staff are really courteous and prices are really good.
Friendly staff, amazing food! Best Tai food I've had in hobart!
