"Sadly our experience with SE20 Cycles was a bit of a farce and we won't be going back"
"SE20 is such a lovely shop and if you need anything fixed on your bike I cannot recommend it enough! The staff are so helpful and friendly and helped me get new mountain bike tyres put on an old bike"
"SE20 is not just your ordinary cycle shop; it's a hidden gem! Their exceptional service for repairing and maintaining bikes is second to none"
"“Don’t talk to him, he just makes the coffee - talk nicely to the man at the back”"
I’ve been here for a puncture before and the experience was very good so figured I’d use it as my go to bike shop. I needed a gear alignment and Winston sorted things out and offered some advice in regards to the wear on the cassette and chain. I booked a service the following week and Joseph called me a few days before to run over everything as the cassette was bit available. We ran through some options and I ordered one to be sent to the shop, when it came to the service day, it turned out this cassette wouldn’t fit as it had a different fitment, Joseph ran through some options and by looking at the wear on the original cassette could see that I don’t use the full range of gears and as such I opted for a different cassette. The bike was serviced and I collected it, unfortunately afterwards the electric motor was working and I figured out it was due to a cassette lock that would usually be thrown away and replaced with a new one, Joseph found it and I returned to have it refitted (in his own time too) and all was working again, the new cassette works like a dream and the bike rides beautifully. This is not an E-Bike shop and they do make that clear, that is in so much as they don’t touch the electrics, but to service the standard bike elements and ensure your bike runs really nicely, they do an excellent job and I will definitely continue to use this shop. Hick ups do occur on occasion but it’s how these are dealt with that provides confidence and reassurance and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this awesome bike shop. (The cakes look very good too, but I was being good) :p
Sadly our experience with SE20 Cycles was a bit of a farce and we won't be going back. Despite booking our bikes in for a service a week ahead and putting them in on Friday to pick up on Tuesday they hadn't even been looked at when I went to pick them up and no one had been in touch to explain that they wouldn't be ready. Credit to Winston for working late into the night to get them finished but surely they should have already been sorted by then anyway and as it turned out I ended up waiting till midnight only to get a text asking if he could drop the bikes off in the morning! Winston was good enough to give a 12% discount on the service fee which covered our additional travel costs for not getting the bikes back on time but it was a whole lot of uneccessary hassle and we will be looking for another bike shop in future rather than risk going through another shambles with SE20 Cycles again.
SE20 is such a lovely shop and if you need anything fixed on your bike I cannot recommend it enough! The staff are so helpful and friendly and helped me get new mountain bike tyres put on an old bike. I was a bit intimidated going in as I'm not that knowledge about cycling and bike care but they were so kind and helpful and really went the extra mile to help me! I booked a repair in on their system and they fixed it and helped me understand what had went wrong with the old tyres (they cracked due to weather) and told me various bits of info I should know about the bike. I also got the booking wrong and luckily they were able to sort it! I also had a delicious mocha as they fixed my bike So if you need anything sorted on your bike or just fancy a nice coffee I'd really recommend SE20!
SE20 is not just your ordinary cycle shop; it's a hidden gem! Their exceptional service for repairing and maintaining bikes is second to none. The team at SE20 is incredibly knowledgeable, skilled, and passionate about what they do. They go the extra mile to ensure that your bike is in top-notch condition. But wait, there's more! SE20 also serves the best coffee and cakes in town. It's the perfect spot to relax and indulge after a long ride or while waiting for your bike to be serviced. I can't recommend SE20 enough for their outstanding service, delicious treats, and overall fantastic atmosphere. Whether you're a cycling enthusiast or simply looking for a cozy café experience, SE20 is the place to be. Check them out—you won't be disappointed!
“Don’t talk to him, he just makes the coffee - talk nicely to the man at the back”. I was a long way from home with a snapped gear cable. The atmosphere here is lovely, the coffee smelled great. But it’s the man in the back who makes a bike shop. And Winnie, the man in the back of SE20, is special. Knowledgeable, skilled and generous to a fault. I’d trust him with more than my bike. He wished me well for my ride home. I wish SE20 Cycles well too - this is what a local bike shop needs to be - a safe and good place to hang out, to get gear and to keep your bike in good condition. Worth a detour.
Winston is a 100% top bloke. Me and my mates were doing a 330 mile tour of football stadia. Gear cable snapped at Palace grounds on a Friday. Phoned SE20 before they even were officially open, Winston answered the phone, invited me to come right up to shop (still before opening time). Fixed my problem within 20 mins and refused any recompense despite my insistence. A true gentleman and perfect service beyond the call of duty. Thanks very much Winston
Such a decent guy, I Had a tour of few bycicle shops in the area for a small repair of a chepiah second hand kid bike, everybody was asking almost the amount of money I spent for the bike but here on Cycles he said he doesn't do the job but straight he picked up a used but working spare part and told how to do it, the part was free of charge. Definitely will come back if I need a bike or a professional job knowing I can trust this shop. Thanks again.
This Bike shop has been turned into a full time Pub! Myself and other residents are fed up of constant parties and gatherings at both the front and back of the building sometimes going till midnight! Myself and other residents have now entered a complaint to the council with proof of the constant disruptions. This was a nice quiet area for families before the Bike shop decided it was a function proprietor and Beer garden.
Not only did Winnie let me in 45 minutes before he opens, he took all the stress out of an early morning, pre-work puncture and more importantly, restored my faith in humanity with his whole approach. Always learn something when I go in and never feel intimidated or belittled. This is true community spirit and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else next time I mess up... would give more stars if I could.
The owner of this shop is first class - the shop was closed last Sunday, but from down the street he saw us look in the shop and then move on, and as we were walking past him, asked if we needed anything. I'd had bad luck with flats that day and had used spare tube and CO2 - he opened up the shop and fixed my flat, which was such an amazingly kind gesture on his day off! Thank you!
Popped in on my way out to Kent for a big ride as my gears were skipping. The gent didn't hesitate to pop my bike on the stand and get to work on it. Had a pleasant chat whilst he worked and after he'd finished wielding his gear indexing wizardry, the bike is now humming along like never before. I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled to big up this great local bike shop.
This place saved me on my London to Brighton cycle on a Sunday morning. Seems like a great bike shop with a friendly owner and would definitely come back here again. Update April 2021: had a very high quality and quick service from Joseph. Him and the owner Winnie are very knowledgeable about parts, offer great advice and I can tell they enjoy what they do.
Got an explanation of what went wrong. Also detailed advice on what was needed, plus pros and cons of each option. I opted for a new wheel and tyre. These were all sold at competitive rates. I opted to fit it myself, to save money, and was given tools, direction advice and some intervention. A really pleasant experience. Friendly and helpful.
Superb service from Winston who owns/runs this shop! Best service I've encountered in 10yrs+ of various bike shops across London. Winston's a true gentleman. Pleasant change to actually speak with the person working on the bike (Road & TT/Tri). Much happier with the quality of work too than the other local store at the top of CP hill.
Superb. Just what you need from a bike shop. Honest advice you can trust. Helped me get my Wahoo Kickr setup correctly over Christmas, so I'm very chuffed with the instant service here. It set SE20 Cycles apart from that other store at the top of Crystal Palace Hill (who never even called me back or bothered to acknowledge an email)
SE20 Cycles is brilliant! Winnie is obviously so passionate about cycling and all its benefits to both individuals and communities. In spite of the shop’s huge popularity he remains committed to providing an honest, friendly and efficient service to our local community. (and further afield!)
Winnie is an absolute legend, over the past couple of months i have had a number of issues with my cycles, some wear and tear some my own fault, on every visit to the shop Winnie has gone above and beyond, now I know why SE20 Cycles has been rated one of the best cycle shops in London.
I can't recommend SE20 Cycles and Winne highly enough - any bike issues which have cropped up in the past 5 years I no longer fret or worry, I know I can pop down and get it sorted, all done with excellent friendly service and good prices. The great coffee and cakes are a great bonus.
Always happy to help with fantastic advice and a vast amount of knowledge to offer with no inclination of pushing you towards a sale, this gentlemen is truly a hard find with in any industry. Thanks again for your constant willingness to drop everything and help me! All the best Andy
Brilliant! My bike had been neglected for over 2 years and needed a lot of TLC. Winnie was amazing and got everything moving smoothly and my bike is all sparkly again. Booking in was so easy and communication was excellent throughout. So thrilled with the results, thank you so much!
This guy saw I was having trouble with my bike, which I had been dealing with myself, but was recurring, just a faulty lock nut on a pedal. He came out of his shop to help me and then fixed it for me for £5. Not saying it's cheap, but the service was first rate.
just refreshing to experience great and friendly service from someone who is ALWAYS willing to help no matter how big or trivial a problem July 2021; Just had a lovely cappuccino and a good old chinwag with Winnie. Bike shop and coffee shop in one - perfect
Transformative! My tired and rusty bike with sticking gears, loose chain and a broken spoke had sat in a distant bike hangar over lockdown. SE20 cycles transformed it into a joy to ride. They reinvigorated my enthusiasm for cycling in one service! Thank you.
If Carlsberg did bike shops they still wouldn't be as good as Whinny at SE20 Cycles! Whatever your age, ability or need Whinny will provide honest help and advise and at a price which is affordable and reasonable for the quality of the workmanship! Thanks!
great shop even fixs bike urgently as my chain came off this morn on route to work and waited till shop was open and dropped bike off and collect it in 2 hours time!! I would recommend any rider! to bring there bikes there! top fella! top service's!
Brilliant cycle workshop ! Got my bike serviced at SE20 the other day, super friendly team, the service was quick and thorough (managed to collect same day). The guys had great knowledge and talked me though the works that needed doing. Big thanks.
2 weeks and 4 days and many phones calls and messages not returned to get a NK1K seat post bolt kit. - I gave up , - I would give zero stars but there system won't allow it , it then tootk me 5 minutes to get the same thing from Westbrook Cycles
I'm a new customer but have had two good experiences. Friendly, conscientious and knowledgeable owner with great staff. Thank goodness a place like this exists locally and I hope I remain a customer for years to come. Good coffee too.
Awesome people. Fantastic service ethic and commitment. What an amazing place brilliant responsiveness, super friendly, detailed advice, shop style and quality of service to bike. Thank you. I wish I'd started coming here years ago!
Extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Quick fix of an existing issue and then took the time to talk me through other issues to keep and eye on as well as ordering/reserving parts for future work. Highly recommended.
Great local cycle shop. Friendly, helpful & good value, with the added bonus of comfortable seating, nice coffee & cakes & books to read. Also home to the Penge Cycle Club which runs organised rides at the weekend.
Came to the store to grab a few low value items (gear ferrules, cable ends, ect). Met with a very knowledgeable and helpful mechanic who also found a barrel adjuster for a rear mech for me, couldn't ask for more!
They serviced a bike that had been in storage for several years and needed a lot of work. They did a great job and kept me up to date with costs and problems along the way. I'd happily use them again
Winnie is a true cyclist, and that's exactly the kind of Irwin you want looking after your bike. Gutted this is no longer my local bike shop now I have moved away. Still come back here though!
You never forget you first…puncture! Luckily mine happened next to SE20 cycles. Joe was amazing enough to quickly fix the issue and send me on my way. Thanks Joe, great service and chat.
A wonderful experience. I’m really glad to have found SE20 cycles. Quality and craftsmanship is there and I will definitely be a returning customer especially for the coffee and cake.
One of the best Local Bike Shops I have been in. Winnie and his staff are always friendly with good advice and knowledge and air guitar apparently. Plus the coffee and cake is bangin!
Fantastic shop who do excellent services and coffee. Their advice is always free and they're friendly to boot. Great back garden as well for relaxing in the sun after a long ride.
A bike shop with the best coffee and cakes in Penge and a garden out the back to enjoy it in. Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff and a very busy and comprehensive workshop.
Great service - friendly, efficient and thorough First time I have used these guys as they are just a little bit further away from home, but I will definitely be going back!
Winnie waited after working hours for me whilst I cycled back from work to get faulty gears sorted. Really great service and goes the extra mile to get your bike fixed.
Excellent service on the great indexing today, really quick and friendly. Gears working perfectly again now. The book and pay in advance system works a treat too.
Excellent service and the base for a really welcoming cycle club. The owner was awesome and helped me with a few extra bits and pieces. Highly recommended.
Great cycle store! Fixed my bike on the stop and gave great advice on my setup. Highly recommend. Thanks!! (Ps. Thanks for fixing my slipping seat post.)
