PROS: There are some really great nurses, respiratory therapists, and physical therapists that work here. They offer free coffee and tea in a "family room." CONS: Everything else. I would give zero stars if I could. My mother was here for a few months and only 56 years old. She passed away from septic shock yesterday here while under their care. An outside professional had advised of a strong chance of there being an infection just two days prior. My mother had complained that they often ignored her call light at night when pressed. They left her on a bed pan all night which resulted in a bakers cyst. She was on blood thinners and often bled heavily when they took blood. The spilled blood was hardly ever cleaned up. They took too much blood once and had to give her an infusion. They often would wait until an issue had blatantly surfaced to treat it, and were not proactive at being on top of it. I do feel she would still be alive had she of been in a different facility. I do think they treated us like "dumb poor hillbillies." My mother worked for a lawyer and at one point he offered assistance to look at all her medical bills. The case worker David implied we were falsifying the man being a lawyer when he said "you know someone can get in a lot of trouble if they act like they are a lawyer and aren't." I sent an email a bit before her death begging them to be proactive and also to treat her humanely. I did not receive a response at all from the case worker, the person that they told me to contact and would help us when we needed help. I flew in in June and spent two weeks straight with my mother here. I was at the facility from 11am to about 9pm almost daily. I NEVER once saw her doctor Dr. Carpenter. The kidney doctor came in ONE time and gave a thumbs up and left. The nurses couldn't answer any questions I had. The ones that did would usually say "I'm not supposed to.. but..." and would give me what information that they could. After I left, they did a sweep of her room. They would not allow her to have an Alexa on in her room. They would not allow an extension cord in her room. They would not allow a box fan we brought to be in her room. We were told everything had to be pre-approved. I honestly wouldn't recommend this place to someone I hated. No one deserves to be treated like my mother was. Edited to add: I emailed the person this account owner commented below and I got a reply that they forwarded my information to someone. Then I never heard from anyone. So this seems to be marketing fluff to make it look like corporate cares. On a positive note, Ariel in records was wonderful and fast at sending me my mother's full records.
I wrote a review 3 weeks ago about my displeasure with my mother's care at this facility, and I wanted to follow up on my experience after my mom was discharged. On my last review, I had the "canned" response of "We would like to talk to you about your experience, please call blah blah blah so we can learn about it". Naturally I did that because I want the next patient at Select to avoid what me and my family went through. I talked with Bob, I continued to talk to the Nashville CEO where both parties denied most of our complaints. My chief issues were my mother was NOT turned ever 2 hours according to hospital policy AND according to what her body needed as she was/is completely paralyzed due to her illness, her "almost pressure sore" on her tailbone was absolutely worse when she left, and she was not getting moved into a chair twice a day (again per hospital policy). The local CEO claims she has the nurses chart where the techs documented that my mother WAS turned every 2 hours. Now, I don't want to call anyone a liar. But I, my father, or my brother was with my mother 27 of her 28 day stay there AROUND THE CLOCK... and she WAS NOT turned ever 2 hours. So I am confused at how the paperwork would say she was?? Regarding this paperwork - while my mom was under the care of Select, my dad requested all her of medical records. We were given about half... I did not receive the tech's charts that showed this 2 hour moving, I did not receive the would care pictures. Her wounds are another claim Select has that is false which is why I want the pictures. My dad has returned since my mom was discharged to try to get the rest of the records, and now Select is saying he needs power of attorney. This seems suspicious to me, although it may be completely accurate. I would have hoped our legal system would automatically grant a spouse power of attorney when the other spouse is incapacitated. So we are still working that. The only area where Select is agreeing they had a shortcoming is that she didn't get into the chair twice a day. They claim they have educated their staff on that. I firmly believe they have a culture problem at Select that goes all the way to the top. If you don't believe me, just ask any Nurse that is familiar with Select. Ask them if they would go work there.... I would not recommend this facility to my enemy. I really hope someone doesn't have to die due to their hand before they recognize they have a problem.
My mother was recently at select for 28 days and had 28 nurses (!!). She is in a full body paralysis and has virtually NO muscle movement. My family stayed with her around the clock...so we saw just about everything. The nurses there are mostly fantastic people and really good at their job, however select is GROSSLY UNDERSTAFFED. My opinion is upper management does that intentionally to increase profit. I filed a complaint with the Joint Commission today and plan to file one with Medicare. The nurses routinely have 5 patients, and on the floor we were on - these are very sick people. Management tries to act like there are patients up there with lower levels of acuteness which are the ones that are paired with 4 other patients under one nurse. However, my mom is absolutely a high “acuteness” patient and her nurses almost always had 4 other very sick patients. We routinely got apologies from the nurses and Respiratory therapist because they knew they weren’t able to be as timely in the care mom needed. She was supposed to me moved to a chair x2 daily, that only happened 1 time in 28 days. She was supposed to be turned every 2 hours - it was never 2 but instead 4. (She has a deep tissue injury because of that, in my opinion). They have a timer system but no accountability when things aren’t done in a timely manner. I routinely saw other patients room numbers on the monitors with times of 50+ minutes for patients wanting to be turned or cleaned, etc. It’s unacceptable. Period. And sadly enough, I have now talked with people who have raised these issues in the past and nothing has been done to correct them. I myself was in the local CEO’s and Dir. of Quality’s office today. I hope some good comes from it for future patients.
I have a family member in this place as I write this , I have to say that this place is the only hospital around that will accept patients on a ventilator.that leaves nowhere else. When a doctor orders a particular medicine or treatment some of the nurses dont make sure its done because it makes there job a little easier. Of course a sick person is not going to want some of it but the nurses just say ok and are very uncaring if the patient does well or not . The little pow wow they have where doctors and nurses all are to get on the same page with the patient care is unable to answer many questions and dont know anything about the speech therapists or therapy progress . The patient is not heard if they ask this bunch any questions . As a matter of fact patients are treated as if they dont comprehend therefore have no say . I'm sorry my loved one has to endure that and is now depressed and wanting to give up . You people are not empathetic and everytime there is a problem it's the same excuse WE ARE UNDERSTAFFED, sorry but that's the hospital bringing more people in they can't take care of . Will my loved one get discounted when the hospital bill comes because of the mediocre care . No . But what they will get is to suffer while a few good nurses are doing the lazy ones work. This isn't the same hospital it's a greedy corporation with too many chiefs and not enough indians. My loved one deserves the top of the line care he's paying top of the line medical bills for . No I'm not calling your number so you can mistreat my family member because I set you out with truth!
My niece was moved to Select Specialty after spending 2 weeks in ICU from being in a automobile accident that unfortunately took the life of her best friend. She spent a month at this hospital & my family couldn’t have been more blessed by the care she received. We especially appreciate certain staff members that cared for her, Nurse Kennon by far went above & beyond the call of duty! Cannot express in mere words the gratitude in our hearts for his Professionalism, competency, empathy, commitment & genuine care for our niece. Many times even if my niece wasn’t on his schedule for the day if he saw me in the hallway he didn’t hesitate to ask what he could do for me or my niece & always made a point to stop by & say hello! PT Katie & OT Sarah both deserves five star ratings! These 2 dynamic ladies made sure my niece received nothing but the BEST! It was truly remarkable to see my niece’s recovery each day! We were amazed to see improvements in her becoming more independent & quickly regaining her vigor! What a gift to actually see her smile again! Both of these girl’s gave her such lovely personable care & cheered her on to move ahead. Our family will forever be thankful for the Medical Staff, Dr. Benjamin A Ferrell & his Staff and even housekeeping, “Rosita” for making a difference in not only our niece’s life, but our as well!
So far I am impressed! I was leary about letting my husband come in because of some of reviews I read but even if they are low staffed, it hasnt affected his care. His room us always tidy. Environmental services keeps room clean and garbage emptied. Hes always dry and positioned well in bed. Respiratory therapy wasted no time to start weaning him off vent. Also doing several different things to get his lungs working better. Speech therapy has already got him eating a few things and taking sips of water. The nurses get him out of bed everyday. They seem to be attentive. As well as nursing assistants. I absolutely love Dr. Tyson. He wasted no time dealing with any existent medical problems my husband was having and obviously believes in preventative medicine. He has called me to inform me of plans or changes of care several times without prompting. He seems very caring and concerned. Bridgett from office even called me yesterday to see how (I), little ole me, was doing! I am so glad we stepped out in faith and came here. Thank you to entire staff. I definitely recommend this facility! It saddens me to say Walter passed away Wednesday. Thank u again for everything u attempted to do. Vanderbilt knew that surgery wouldn't work but did it anyway. They took months from him that we could have had.
There isn't a way for me to fully express my gratitude to these folks!! The extremely high level of skilled care shown to my husband, the incredible people working here who care so deeply for their patients, the cleanliness of this entire facility ... it all adds up to a wonderful experience in what is a difficult time of our lives. My 48 year old husband suffered 2 strokes and our journey has been straight uphill - but our stay with these folks at Select has been such a shining light in a terribly dark time. Even the case managers deserve a huge round of applause for their thoughtful and genuine approach to some very hard conversations. Their case managers are so so different from those we've encountered elsewhere - the Select folks actually treated me, as next of kin and caregiver, as a human with my own feelings. How wonderful! Specifically, our lead case manager Julia has been so kind to me I'm tearing up just typing this - thank you, Lady! I believe a lot of this culture comes from leadership- Dr. Tyson is a shining example of that. His open communication and real interest in his patients is as authentic as it is beautiful. If you can, get your loved one here. HERE. You will thank God for these people in this place, I certainly do.
Physical therapy was great! Occupational therapy was great! Respiratory was fantastic on working I. Getting me off the ventilator! As soon as I started coming to I should of had Speech therapy it was offered at this place but they never once offered it to me. I got speech therapy after I left there. I had to figure that all out on my own which was very wrong and stressful. The wound care team was AFOUL!!!! I came in with a bedsore and they let it get worse! To the point it was un stageable! I’m very lucky to have it heal up as much as it has. It kept me in so much pain and it seemed like some of these nurses here did not understand that sitting in a cardiac chair as they called it hurt me so bad that I was in tears and in so much pain and would leave me there in pain in that chair for hours it felt like. As someone with a severe brain injury you’d think they would understand I didn’t need to get upset terribly bad. This place is great for respatory and physical therapy and occupational therapy. I give a good shout to the few good nurses who took great care of me. Tiffany, Amanda. But otherwise I don’t recommend this place for anyone who has open wounds or bedsores. They will just let it get worse!
This place was absolutely horrible!! when we brought our mom to this place she was so terrified that she thought she was going to die one of the nurses she had was very racists and treated my mom like a dog!!! but she did have a couple of good nurses. just her over all treatment as well keeping her clean from everything i've witnessed i just couldn't believe they just hire anybody now a days. i wished to GOD me and my sister's wouldn't have ever sent her here. they let her lay in that bed over months with hardly any physical therapy what so ever or hardly any help! i even had to help do alot to my mom do to lack of employees to help the other employee. my mom said please don't leave me in this place get me out of here. she still can't move or walk because they left her bed ridden for so long. Also the case manager that's provided for patients she's a red neck!! she had no sympathy for my mom's feelings and she was very rude towards me as well. she has long blonde hair middle age and she's from Chattanooga . She's just very mean and shouldn't be a case worker dealing with black people at all!!!
If you have a loved one, with any remaining dignity at all... PLEASE do not send them here. The nurses and supervisors on staff, are the coldest most heartless people, I have ever encountered. My Dad lost so much dignity due to his illness. These people just stole any dignity he had left. He should have never had to spend his final days, with the cruelty he endured here. They do not deserve one star. They have no business caring for anyone. When my Dad complained of chest pain and three times the nurse responded with "his vitals are fine"..... 12 hours later he passed away with heart complications.... I have a serious problem with that. The morning he passed, the "house supervisor" I spoke to was just hateful to me. Like I was putting her out by asking questions.... Are You Kidding Me? Never did I hear sorry for your loss, we did everything we could.... Nothing. Cold, heartless, find a new line of work. NO ONE deserves the lack of care he had. No one. PLEASE, do not send anyone here, for any reason. You will regret it. I promise you.
My mother's health has declined since being here. She looks lifeless and is mostly unresponsive when we visit She wasn't like this when she first moved here. She's not being turned every 1-2 hours for her stage 3 pressure ulcer. I've walked in a couple of times to find no sheet or cover on her, but crumpled up underneath her. Her gown half way off and the temperature of her room on 60°F, while it's 30°F outside. She got pneumonia after that. The nurse reports are different from what we see. We're told she had a great day and she got up an did therapy by one nurse, only to be told a different story when we are there in person. I've had to change her myself because no one came after pressing the call light. Last visit she was back on a vent and still struggling to breathe. I honestly feel like my mother will never leave this place alive if she stays here. Update: My mother, in fact, did not leave this place alive My mother died from septic shock and malnutrition
We can not say enough great things about this facility! The staff is truly caring and absolutely amazing. We will start with Dr. Mangialardi, & his NP's - Sara & Jessica who are at your disposal if you need them or have questions anytime day or night. I want to make sure to mention staff members who went above and beyond the call for care for my husband. Speech Therapist Ally, - PT & OT - Sarah, Corinza, John, Kathleen, Mary, Katie, Kelly & Tameka - RT - Adam, Davey, Joe, Christine & Laura RA - Nursing staff Trevor, Arika, Maura, Sam, Amora, Sly, and truly too many to mention. Wound care Grace and Phyllis worked a true miracle on his wound. Trae who comes by to make sure we are cared for, need anything, concerns etc. We are truly grateful for this facility, without them it would have been a different life outcome.
My mother died there just the other night. They allowed her to go into septic shock. She was there for about 5 months. She was healing quite well. They rarely got her up and moving and she would sit for hours after hitting the nurse call before they came in. They have even shut the light off on her. This is by the far the absolute worst place to ever have a loved one!! She had an infection on her side that was quite obvious and neglected to care for it or give prompt antibiotics as requested by the dialysis dr. If they would have given her the antibiotics immediately as requested by a Dr that was visiting from a dialysis center, she probably would of NEVER went into septic shock two nights later. They will sit and let your loved ones die and afterwards ask if we have anymore questions.
Do NOT let your loved ones get stuck in this place! The care my Uncle received was a joke. He was rotting away in this facility, crippling, getting worse, and his hygiene didn't get taken care of. Thank GOD we were able to get him transferred to Atlanta for treatment. At Select, he was hardly able to speak, had back to back lung infections, stiffened arms, he was on the brink of bed sores, the staff ignored simple requests from him, he smelt bad, he had thrush for weeks, and couldn't even lift the TV remote. After a couple weeks of moving him to a better place, he can speak like normal, his trache and almost all tubes/wires have been removed, his arms are perfectly mobile, and he's WALKING on his own. Please I repeat DO NOT let your family, friends, loved ones rot away in this place!
The hospital was the cleanest I have ever been in. The whole hospital worked harmoniously as a team. General attitude of positivity, which is very important to me for my rehab. I found that response time was very quick to call lights, which is usually difficult in the hospital setting. But everyone works together to address the needs of the patients. I had a great response from the department heads to address any concerns I had and my concerns were resolved immediately. The rehab department has really helped me to get back on my feet. I couldn't stand up when I got here and now I am so much stronger and able to get on and off the commode and get a wheelchair. The therapist are very encouraging and motivating.
Staff was very helpful when I came to the hospital. I had a unique issue that they made every accommodation to make me comfortable during my stay. While I did have a couple of issues, once I brought them up, they were satisfactorily resolved! The cleaning staff was exceptional and there was one stand out, that I felt went above and beyond. The entire staff was responsive, with of course, some delays during during busy periods, and I appreciate that they would take patients needs into account as they responded to request. All in all, while I never want to be in a hospital, and spent ~a month here. I couldn't have found a better place. If you have a choice I recommend them. They will remember me for this photo.
My experience with Specialty Select Hospital has been overall ,very good. My wife had a stroke on Friday after Thanksgiving, and was in a major hospital for several weeks. Our next facility that was recommended is Select Specialty Hospitals in Nashville, Tn. The staff are wonderful to work with and was very helpful. The nursing staff have been very good, with only one small incident. The only other issue was letting me know what the course of treatment is and communicating that to me so I would be reassured. The physical therapy staff have been very helpful and have aided my wife in encouraging her to push ahead in her recovery. When we leave this facility, we should be in good shape to continue her recovery.
Select Specialty is a top tier long term acute care hospital in the greater Nashville / middle TN area. The rehab department extended a far beyond their duties to ensure patient care and happiness. Each staff member strives to ensure only the finest patient safety and satisfaction for all those who enter through the doors. The therapists treat each patient as if they were their own family member and the results speak for them self. Other than the rehab dept. Select’s wound care minimizes the risk for bed sores to the highest degree. If you or a family member is in need of long term acute care in the area, there is no better place to be than Select Specialty
Therapy was very very good. It was organized and they functioned as a team. It was creative and there were opportunities to go out of the building to get fresh air. The wound care team was solid. We have had great improvements in my wound while here. We initially thought I would need plastic surgery to heal the wound but I have made such progress here I wont any longer. Nursing was pretty strong but there was a lot of PRN coverage leading to some continuity of care concerns. We did meet a lot of nice travel nurses and overall had a very good experience.
We came here on July 12 and are leaving on August 15 with no ventilator or tracheotomy. In 33 days this facility/hospital did exactly what they said and got my husband breathing on his own and ready to go for rehab. I made so many friends with the incredible staff who cared for my loved one. I will forever be grateful for this step in the healing process. The facility was so clean and we were met with smiles and encouragement every day by nurses, technicians, specialists and doctors We serve an awesome God and he is always near.
My sister was moved here after 90 days in the ICU for COVID. She is still progressing slowly, but she's getting EXCELLENT care and hopefully will be home soon! Her PT and OT Theripist's are awesome as are the doctors and nurses. The facility is clean and the whole staff has been great! They especially love when I bring her "baby" Kona (her Great Dane) to visit! It's her best therapy!! God Bless everyone who is taking care of her!!
Would not recommend for anybody. If you have a love when here, get them out as soon as possible. My uncle was there for 2 months after almost dying in a car accident, and they treated him so bad. They neglected him and were only nice to him in front of family or the Dr. He moved to Shepherds in Georgia and started making progress on day 1. I can't say enough bad things about this hospital.
Zero stars was not an option. They have no bedside commodes in a rehab hospital and won't allow a walking patient out of bed to go to restroom. Been here since 8 pm and it's now 1:28 am and no meds. Denied fluids. Left vanderbilt at 7:45 pm and was eating, drinking, and walking to bathroom. Going to post every issue as they occur.
My husband was treated for a traumatic brain injury and numerous broken bones. The staff were very supportive of both of us. They were professional, knowledgeable and help him to improve. Their therapy department were awesome. They answered all of my questions and were very accommodating. I highly recommend this hospital.
I had the most wonderful experience at Select. The staff is top notch & very professional. I had excellent care & the therapy department is the best around. Wound care is wonderful. Everyone on the staff listens to the patients & addresses every need/concern. I am forever grateful for my experience.
Fake reviews on this hospital are being written. Don't allow your loved ones to go here or if you have little options make sure they are transferred within a 30 day to 60 day period, regardless of what this facility recommends. Trust me the case managers here should likely be facing jail time.
Two years ago, my grandfather was sent here from Centennial ICU. When I would visit him I never felt like he received the care he should’ve. The longer he stayed the worse he got. There was a day I had to physically go room to room of other
My mother was sent there from Centennial Hospital after being in the C.C.U. for 16 days after she had surgery for "dead gut". As soon as I walked in, I knew we should have went elsewhere. The facility itself was very old looking, as was the
=I will start from the beginning so i hope this review helps someone else out there in our previous position. My father contracted covid-19 in November. Went to Hendersonville Tristar and died 3 times there and was brought back. He survived
My father was here for an extended period. I will give credit to the wound care staff and physical therapy staff. Most of the nurses tried to do what was needed. However, they are so understaffed that it was impossible. We were with my Dad
Staff is very nice but they’re very short handed, and this seems normal. It takes so long for anyone to get into the room after pressing the call bell, and sometimes no one ever comes. I wouldn’t put a family member in here, not even if I
My brother suffered a stroke. After being in ICU for 2.5 weeks and a few days on the pulmonary floor, he was discharged to Select SpecialtY, in Nashville, TN, for ventilator weaning. The weaning process is amazing, but the nursing care
I am writing on behalf of my husband, Rick Lucas. Rick was hospitalized on July 24, 2020 at Tristar Hendersonville, TN with Covid 19. After being put on a vent and developing severe life threatening issues due to the progression of the
I wish there was a 0 stars!!!!! My sister was here & it was awful. There is a machine on the wall that lights up every two hours for when they are suppose to check on the patient, turn them & make sure they are not soiled or anything.
My husband came from Vanderbilt trauma to here. I was told great things by the representative. I was told my husband would be put in a chair twice a day for 2 hours each time to prevent pneumonia as they had been doing at Vandy. After
I do not have any reviews but I have hard horrible things about this place. And was to not leave my brother by himself alone at this place. He is coming from Vanderbilt tomorrow. I pray to God they do not set my brother back mentally.
The overall staff was excellent they took very good care of me I would most definitely recommend Select Specialty to anyone the Doctors and Nurses really care about you
These 2 ladies (OTs Sarah and her student Kaylee) are the best. They will work with you and for you to get you in and out. If anyone deserves a 5 star rating, they do!
I just want to say that this hospital is wonderful!! The nurses, the CNAs and the rest of the staff were are amazing. They took care of me like I was family!
I was a patient here and had a great stay. The staff has been friendly and helpful.
