Since moving to Adelaide early this year we are keen to explore walking trails and hike and there is so much to see! We decided on the Seaview Loop at Shepherds Hill this week. A fairly short loop around 2 km and can be done in an hour but you will encounter some steep sections fairly early on in the walk but the view at the other end is worth it. A dog friendly park we did the loop with our two Labradors who enjoyed the short hike. A 30 mins drive from the city the park is located near South road. Parking is available (capacity around 20 cars) and there is also a kid zone should you wish to spend some time and have a short picnic. There was also a mud bike park of sorts if that is of interest to you. We will be going back to explore other walks.
A perfect, moderate distance , moderately challenging nature walk. Refer to the posted photos for the map and description of the park. There are several scenic trails with levelled and moderately steep terrains. The Seaview Trail especially has lookout locations with amazing vast views of the city and coastline of Adelaide. There are mountain bike trails for beginners as well as more skilled riders, which are separate from the walking trails. There's vehicular access on certain trails in case of emergencies. There's also an Archery club which may give access to a public toilets, if in use at the time.
Did the Grey Box loop track (I liked this one better than the River Red Gum track), although had to take a detour when I saw a kangaroo ahead, sitting on the edge of the track, looking at me. So I back tracked, but walked up near the boundary fence line, which is at the back of houses. Again I saw another kangaroo and it was only say 30 metres away, not far from track edge. It watched me walk past. Yeah these kanga's were cute, these sightings were too close for my comfort and I like to avoid being attacked by one.
Good paths good adventures and watch out for the archery practice at eight o clock in the morning ... AoK
Playground
Natures play ground... Not so many man made things... Would advise adult supervision... AoK
Restrooms
Not many if any available
Dog-friendliness
Three to ten dogs on leads and various breeds
Picnic area
Make your own picnic but bring a blanket as there are not so many tables and chairs... AoK

Beautiful, well maintained, and mildly challenging trails close to the heart of the city. The hiking is pretty mild until you get past the railway tracks. The basalt faults there are breathtaking and the creek very picturesque. You'd be forgiven to think that you're in the heart of the wilderness (there are houses at the top of the hills). Stopped at the waterfall pictured, but am sure there's much more to discover beyond
Great fun on these trails. There is some minor erosion with ruts showing up but well maintained. Heavy clay means no dust in the dry conditions, can get a bit gluggy when wet but generally drains well. Easy climbs with great flowing downs means that your effort is well rewarded with plenty of downwards fun. Hectic rock drop on Grey Box for the brave. Love this spot, can hit it over and over without getting bored.
Great hike starting on Pasadena side. The up and down is quite taxing so it's more effort per KM than some other tracks. The infrastructure is minimal through the top around the train track, its a bit rough. Seeing the old train tunnel and bridge concrete blocks was interesting. Views are amazing on the southern side of the old bridge. Took off 1 star because it's a bit unkept and minimal to no signs.
Shepherds Hill Recreation Park is a great place for hiking, jogging, climbing hills, dog walking, biking, and horse riding. There is also an archery club in the Park. The mountains and forests are quiet and the scenery is beautiful. There are many different levels of tracks suitable for different groups of people. Parking under the mountain is very convenient.
Fun mtb flow trails that are great for letting loose and flicking out your back wheel. The climbs aren't too bad and the bowl at the bottom of the park is good fun for gaining confidence on jumps and even doing some tricks. Sheps is good, but O'halloran hill is way better and is only 5 mins away so it's worth the extra drive.
Awesome place to go trail walking/ biking riding or running. The view at the top of the Ridge Track is beautiful and has a park bench and plenty of shade also. Be mindful of the Archery club - they have a flag displayed when they are shooting down the back of one of the trails. Lots of space to park your car as well.
Beautiful park. Went for a MTB ride with my hardtail bike. Plenty of tracks for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. I am really a beginner and found it superb(I did mainly XC trails and did not try downhill). So near to the city, this park is a gem. Suitable for hikers and horseriding too.
My local trails - love this place. Good variety and a decent amount of trails to use consider it's close proximity to the CBD. Trails are all rated and signposted and there's even trails for walking if you or your partner prefer that while you ride like most of the other people in the area.
Nice walks that gives you some beautiful views of Adelaide, look at local plants and birds etc. The map and the different routes are poorly marked at the start to follow the recommended directions (eg. anticlockwise), but once you get going it's fine. Is doable with kids.
I did the seacliff trail, it was really beautiful. I recommend to tackle the hill first and down hill the end, you'll appreciate the view more when you're not looking at your feet. They have a few seats with some lovely views too. + dogs allowed (on leash) 8/10
This is a fantastic recreation park for walking and hiking. There's the easy and scenic River Redgum Loop along the valley, the Sea View Loop which takes you across the top of the hill, and more. I take the dog walking here at least once a week.
Nice walk with the kids and without. This area is also suitable for mountain bike riding. We completed the river red gum loop along the creek but there are other routes that we would like to try. Beautiful nature walk close 15 min from CBD.
Pretty place, nice walking trails, and good space to ride bikes .. some obstacles as well.. and also a small treks here and there.. very close to city and gives a nice view of the CBD as well as sea.. recommended for shorter nature times..
A lovely place to stroll amongst nature or ride the mountain bike. A favourite place is Eden Field Archery Club where the members are friendly and welcoming. A great place to visit when you need a place to relax and get in some fresh air.
Great shared tracks for bike, walking or running. Archery club in the middle. Spectacular views of city and sea. Don't let the urban setting of the carpal fool you. It turns into bush in seconds of leaving the car.
Great place for mostly begginer friendly hikes that are interesting, beautiful, unique with great views that are still quite empty most of time. Spring is beautiful here with the orange wild flowers.
Great for walking and riding at all levels. Some nice, flat tracks and the intermediate downhill tracks are a lot of fun. Plenty of kilometres here and can be joined in to the Linton trails as well.
Great park right near Flinders University with different walking trails of various lengths, horse trails and an archery section. If you go up the hill you get a great view of the ocean and the city.
This place is great. There’s a kids track, lots of places/tracks to explore, a pump/jump track, a small (2.5k) green family biking (and walking!) track, and a few more (didn’t explore those).
Came here for my first time mountain biking. Good selection of tracks and skill areas. Well kept trails and an awesome place to test some skills or learn the ropes. Bonus, has amazing views!
Great short rip around for my first day back on the trails after an injury . Had heaps of fun but was wrecked pretty quick and there wasnt enough if any source's of water that i could find .
Love shooting the course at Eden Field Archers!!! A great bunch of folks too. Such beautiful countryside. Can see why it is a popular place for mountain biking or just walking the dog
Such a great spot! Great for mountain biking, runs and walks. It’s so quiet and you’re just surrounded but the most beautiful bushes all around. Must do hike around south end.
While walking the RedGum track my daughter and I saw skinks, beehives, rosella's, gallahs and a family of beautiful Blue Fairy Wrens. It was a lovely walk. I will go again.
Great little escape from the noise of traffic... bike trakes for the mountain bikers & several walking loops... peaceful place...
Dog-friendliness
Dogs on leads ok
Lovely little park hidden away in the suburbs. Only looks small from Ayliffes Road, but extends all the way up the hill to Belair. Can easily do a 2 hour walk in here.
So nice to have this park in the middle of a suburban area. Great place to walk your dog or ride a bike. Beautiful wildlife to be seen and awesome creek when it rains
Great place to take kids, dogs and the family in general for a walk. Nature not far from the suburban areas. Easy to get to if you want a quick weekend arvo trip.
It's really nice to see money being spent in parks like this. Great place to take the dog for a quick hike, kids for a bike ride or even just go spot some birds.
Dog-friendly, laidback, beautiful walks with plenty of scenery. Accessible from South Road. Plenty of signage and maps in the park. Great afternoon destination.
I absolutely loved attending the Marion Riding Club within the park. Such a special place and it was great to hear about the history of the club in this area.
Awesome walking and biking trails... Archery range.. Not sure about public access into range.... Car park off ayliffs Rd I think.... Great big reserve....
Shepherds Hill Park has a beautiful view of the CBD .There is a lot of birdlife there and breezes are cooling. I enjoyed the well marked tracks as well .
Great little park for a hike or mountain bike. Lots of trails to explore of different difficulty levels, some with great views of the city and coastline.
Nice, easy trails. Bit too steep for the real young ones in my opinion, but all other levels of riding will be capable with the selection of trails.
Nice pump track to practice berms and double table top. Easy climbs towards 3 down hill tracks. DH is very rocky with roots. Such fun. Much sends.
Awesome walks here. Can be quite muddy in the wet months. Great views to the city and down to the ocean. Really enjoy walking here, very peaceful
Great shared use and xc-mountain bike specific paths to suit beginner to intermediate abilities. Limited car parking and no water or toilets.
Incredible walk with some incredible views, good mix of flats hills and some rocky winding paths, I find it great training for trail running
A grrat variety of hikes, walks and mountain bike trails. Easy parking and access, great for kids, dogs and horses. No facilities or water.
Great place to walk the dog, all kinds of bike riding and generally letting the kids explore a little. No loos no cafe or water holes tho
Abundant birdlife and pleasant walk. Saw 1 koala today. Did the Viaduct track which leads to the rail trail and tunnel, remember to stay
Really nice park to go for a ride or walk the dog. Quite a bit of parking available. However, I was unable to locate any public toilets.
Pretty cool. For walking it wasn't as scenic as lofty, morialta or marino coast but I noticed lots of bike trails there. Plus archery!
Good places for cycling rails, good for evening walks, the place is quite, suitable for kids also
Dog-friendliness
Yes it is
Awesome winter/ spring puppy walks. Too many brownsnakes during summer months to even consider. Take doggos to the beach instead
It was soo pretty and many different walks to do for all skill levels. Plus dogs are allowed so you can bring your puppy too.
A nice and pleasant walk with amazing scenery from the top. Plenty of directional signage. Definitely one of my favourite.
Such beautiful trails, much wow! I love walking here, great trails to help get your steps up♀️#getintonature …
First visit for a long time. Lots of variety and different trails. We were there till after sunset which was nice too.
Good trails Got lost in walking track but found an echidna, we named him Kevin. To much up hill not enough down hill.
Nice little park with a few tracks to do mtb if you are a experienced rider probably you’ll find it a little boring.
This a great place for bike riding and just a walk with family or by yourself. It is quite popular with bike riders
Great place for a walk .There are a few different paths and bike trails. We enjoyed the bird life and variety .
Nice spot for MTB and walking. Some cross country and blue downhill runs. Can link the to the Mitcham trails
Unmatched views from the bay to the city at the top of the hill, great place to hike, bike and explore!
Excellent range of trails which are suitable for walking and mountain biking, very convenient location
Mountain biking is 85% pushing your treadly uphill, 10% flying downhill and 5% crapping your pants
A great place to sit around with nature's blessings and to clear your head and to think in peace.
Some great hiking and mountain bike trails. The Seaview loop has awesome views over the city.
Great place for family outdoor activities. Hiking, biking, bush walking. Kids friendly place.
Beautiful walking and biking trails. Great for horses, kids, bike riding, dogs, everything :)
Beautiful park whether fine or rainy. Paths for every level and cycling catered for also
Been going here since my childhood, now I take my own kids here and they love it too..
Great park for riding your mountain bike. It's also a popular place for hiking.
Nice hike. No bins even on the carpark. Dogs have to be on lead.
Nice easy place for Mountain biking, can get boring though
Some easy walking tracks to be done, and the dog loved it.
My dogs favourite place to walk! Such a nice park
No bins so some people leave bags in car park
Went multiple times to hike all the trails.
Stopped for quick picnic lunch break.
Good intro to mtb with the group
