Gym
"At first glance it's immense and should have everything you could ever need, but the devil is in the details"
"The weights and exercise machines are awesome, the ab workout room upstairs a nice bonus, a large spin cycle room (I don't use), old racquetball courts and you can check out gear at the front desk, a smoothie bar next to the front desk"
"It's difficult to maintain cleanliness and order in a gym with so many users, especially in the morning around typical mandatory PT times, but the staff and users here do a great job"
"Best Air Force gym i've ever been to"
"A great facility on MacDill AFB"
At first glance it's immense and should have everything you could ever need, but the devil is in the details. It missing some of the small things that make smaller gyms better (like certain or enough of those weights, enough of machines that are more popular, etc). Besides it missing some of the details, the hardware seriously needs updating. Much of the equipment is at or past its prime, not to mention the amount of bumper plates that are barely holding together. Overall very nice gym if you hit it at off-peak hours and don't mind searching for the occasional companion weight. As far as military gyms go, it's nice, but falls well short of what you would expect with two major commands and all of the bling that should come with it, maybe they spent too much buying 50 inch TVs to splurge...
The weights and exercise machines are awesome, the ab workout room upstairs a nice bonus, a large spin cycle room (I don't use), old racquetball courts and you can check out gear at the front desk, a smoothie bar next to the front desk. I love the dry sauna, but I wish there was a co-ed one as well as a wet sauna. I recently retired after 28yrs ofservice, and i cannot count the number of gyms I've been to. MacDill is a large joint base, yet the gym hours are extremely limited, and that is unacceptable. I got a special pass to work out after hours, but the locker rooms are locked up (no shower, no sauna), and I cannot bring any guests. There is also no pool. The base has an outdoor pool, but it's not near the gym and it's only open in the summer when the sun will heat the water.
It's difficult to maintain cleanliness and order in a gym with so many users, especially in the morning around typical mandatory PT times, but the staff and users here do a great job. I think this gym could use an expansion for both the weight floor and cardio equipment, but they keep what they have well maintained. The outdoor facilities are great and the tracks and running trails are also very nice. Tons of showers available which is great during busier hours.
Best Air Force gym i've ever been to. Great staff, excellent equipment and LOVE the 24 hr access for military personnel. If your Air Force/Army/Marine/Navy/Coast Guard just register your CAC at the front desk of the Short Fitness Center and they will make you sign a statement of understanding. Bam 24 hr access, and no need for a local gym membership. Plus people at this gym take it seriously and they are there to do work.
A great facility on MacDill AFB. Open to active military, retirees, and family. Think military PT on steroids! This place has got it all, from the hard-core metal pushers to the kiddies. Very family-friendly facility. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful and the gym is open after-hours for those with active cards. So if you're at the base, swing by and get you're workout on.
Great gym. A lot of equipment and everyone that goes is very friendly. My daughter who is 6 really enjoys going because of all the things she can do and how friendly everyone is. She has a rare bleeding disorder, which makes getting into sports a little dangerous. However, getting her into fitness has been safe, healthy, fun, and affordable because of the Macdill fitness center.
Great Gym in South Tampa for AD, Vets with ID to get on post, Reservists, & Guardsmen. I also bring my family, there is a nice section for the little ones with a bounce house where they can also "workout". Every cardio machine you could imagine, stretching aids and a track outside. Early morning on weekends I often have the place to myself, We love it here!
COVID 19 protective measures in place here. You must wear your mask at all times while visiting the fitness center (indoor facility). Very clean and well maintained. Staff personnel are extremely helpful and courteous. There are a variety of equipment and workout options available. I enjoy coming here. Kudos to the management and support staff.
Very large facility. Sometimes you have to look in odd places to find some of the more unique equipment. There is also an open air gym outside, with more than enough options to keep the biggest fitness freaks entertained, occupied, and well worked. The hours are very limited, but that seems to be a general trend around the area.
The children's area is one of the best I've seen when it comes to base gyms (I've been to one base whose gym had a children's area with no toys and just 2 eliptical machines haha). Here they have a blow-up house for the kids and lots of machines and weight equipment for adults to use while keeping on eye on their kids.
Best gym ever, the fitness trainer machine where you can select your own workout is awesome, especially the spin class. The cleaning crew works hard. Front desk personnel could be more friendly. It appears they are more friendly with people they identify with versus all. It takes seconds to say goodmorning
A really nice base gym most all of the equipment works, always clean just wish it was open longer hours. It closer early on the weekends so ck to make sure it is open before ya come. There is a way of requesting after hours access with your ID, you just have to register it with the front desk. …
Large gym with good well-maintained equipment and facilities. There are two outdoor running tracks and CrossFit equipment for use outdoors as well. Patrons are able to register their CACs for access outside of normal operating hours. There is also a smoothie bar on site, but I haven't used the service.
This is one of the best I've seen on a military installation. When it's packed, it's difficult to find an open machine or workout rack but that's usually the case anywhere. However, this place has everything, including an indoor play area for toddlers. So you can workout while your kids play.
State of the art fitness facility, with all the modern equipment needed to maintain a fitness program. Lead exercise classes, smothies and snacks cafe, massage by appointment. 24 hr Access with previous registration and access card. No excuse needed just all that you need to enjoy a workout.
For several weeks in the small(er) weight machine room, there have been several pieces of equipment with Out of Order signs. Today, every leg machine had a sign on it. Also, the women's restroom had a stopped up sink full of dirty water. I love this gym and hate to see it not maintained.
The treadmills are awful. A lot of people run indoors here for much of the year. All of the treadmills need to be replaced and then maintained meticulously. And I'm not sure what happened with the air duct system. Some of the rooms are hot and humid while others are freezing.
This gym is one of the only military gyms I know that have 24 hours accessibility. It has a shake bar and many fitness rooms. You also are accessible to the outside rubber track and huge plush green grass field (also artificial)! This is a 5 star gym in my books!
Rise and shine workouts are the best! Get it in early, energizing your entire day! This is a wonderful gym to gey yourself back in shape , continue your fitness journey and even hit the body building stage. This gym is for every level of fitness and physique.
This place has almost everything you need for a workout. CrossFit, check. Free weights, check. They even have cycling classes as well as you if your into that. One thing it may not have is an indoor pool. However a pool is nearby so it doesn't really matter.
Machines are constantly inoperable and it takes them 3 months to get them fixed. You can tell that maintenance is not done. This is the only gym in the base, it should be a priority. I only took a picture but there were 6 more machines inop at this moment.
The fact that this on base gym is closed randomly is the most irritating thing possible. I have never been on a military installation that the gym is closed during the middle of the day. No signage posted informing people of when they will be closed.
Good solid fitness center. You can't beat free, clean, and 24 hours. Unless they start handing out free stuff, oh wait they do sometimes. There is a smoothie bar inside that is quality only thing is the staff is friendly and funny. Not a bad thing
Size.. check. Correct number of pieces of equipment ... check. Cleanliness.... fail. Really need to replace the bars that have rusted out. Need to place an incline bench or 2 at the outdoor Conex gym. But... you can get your swole on here.
You're greeted by friendly staff at the front desk who will go out of their way to ensure you know your way around and will answer any questions you may have. The facility is hard to describe as it's so massive that even pictures don't do
Need base access. Excellent facilities! Currently in COVID mode so only allowing a limited number of people inside and a mask is required in most areas. This keeps it pretty empty and most machines are open without a wait.
Large gym, outdoor weights area for Crossfit/high intensity workouts, and basketball court. They also have a nice smoothie stand you can get supplements and even food (wraps, etc). They do not have a lap swim pool though.
Full service Gym, Wellness Center with many many options for classes in spinning, yoga and much much more. They also have a track outside, baseball fields, racketball, basketball and healthy food options and smoothie bar.
Excellent facility but some more equipment in the family area would be nice... Specifically a squat machine or leg press machine. There seems to be a lot for upper body and cardio in the family area but nothing for legs.
The gym is now open with slightly different operating hours. Due to COVID precautions, you need to bring your own towel, water bottle and wear a mask. Each patron is only allotted 1 hour to workout, so come prepared.
Nice gym. But it’s 2023 and the strongest Air Force in the world can’t figure out the computer system to allow 24/hr access. Craziness! But besides that, this is one amazing gym. Very impressed with all they offer.
I've been to MANY MANY Military gyms from Seattle to Tampa and Sandiego to Fort Bragg...This is the nicest gym I've ever been to! Everything you need and Many things you may never use (but they have that/those too)
Wow! Nice facility! Clean, modern gym with several dedicated workout zones. We are staying at the Coons Creek Famcamp so this is a short hop skip and jump for a good workout. Sure glad we decided to check it out.
Top Notch faculty. Has large multi-level and diversified equipment inside and, large outdoor facility which includes numerous types of stations suitable for Crossfit exercises. Friendly and helpful staff as well.
Love this place, no complaints whatsoever. From the equipment to the different areas to workout. There were a few out-of-order machines but otherwise it was a great experience to workout there. I love the sauna!
There are a lot of different rooms here with different equipment, so make sure to walk around if you can't find something. The larger strength area is not air conditioned very well. Locker room is massive!
The best of best. So grateful to have experienced this gym. It's beautiful clean and exciting. I definitely rate this Physical Fitness Center the Best of Best!!!, . Keep up the excellent hard work.
Great on base gym. It ahs multiple areas to work out. Just don't come around 5pm it is the most busy. However it is always clean and the facility has plenty of amenities for any type of work out.
Great facilities and a wide range of weights and cardio machines. Some classes with a pay by class option. The wellness center has great support options but fairly limited hours.
So many options I didn’t know where to start! A spin room, huge weight area, cardio upstairs, stretching areas, family area, clean, sauna, friendly staff, no complaints!
If I only had this gym closer! The gym is huge equipped with free weights, barbells, treadmills, etc. There is a stand at the exit where you can grab some protein.
Love it here the only thing I wish they could change is the hours of the sauna. Instead of shutting it down at 8:30 they should at least stay till 11.
Amazing gym. Terrible hours. Its as if the air force doesnt care about force readiness when the only gym on base closes at 2pm on weekends.
One of my favorite gyms by far. The staff do a good job of keeping the place clean and organized and they take the mask mandate seriously.
They have everything and dumbbells up to 150lbs. One of the best gyms compared to several gyms around the world. No local gym can compare.
Decently big. Has everything you need. Does get crowded and everything is outdated and old... parking is hard to find during peak hours.
I go there to play racquet ball and it's clean and awesome! Except they are using one of the courts for fitness which is messed up!
Has 3 separate places with machines and courts as well, oh and an upstairs cardio area, not as impressive as some reviews make it
Better than going off base during this Pandemic!! Really like the measures put in place. The best part is it is not crowded.
I live here! The only downside is that it can be really busy and the guy that stares so hard I cannot comfortably workout.
State of art facility. Great benefit for military on and near MacDill. Better than any gym I've seen in civilian market.
It has everything you'd want in a gym. Classes, kid room, equipment checkout, two different running tracks, truck tire.
Amazing staff, equipment, and accommodations. I've been coming here forever, and it always seems to get better.
Great gym, lots of equipment, clean, and now that the base is in HPCON Bravo you don't have to wear a mask!
Other than the line waiting for the squat racks, excellent use of floor space and after hours availability
It is a military gym (Airforce). Very large with a great selection of equipment. Rarely overcrowded.
Great gym that needs an indoor pool for laps and WiFi because cell service is horrible on this base
Good variety of equipment but housekeeping needs to step it up. Its always so dirty in this gym!!!
Great facility. Would be even better if they offered an indoor pool...at least somewhere in tampa!
Could you maybe position the bench press units where you don't get blinded by the sun on every set
Nice and clean, but this is the first DoD gym that I've been to where you have to pay for classes.
Nice gym, plenty of equipment to accomplish most workouts. Facilities are clean the staff is nice.
Nice on-Base gym. Tons of equipment, basketball courts, racket ball courts, 20 Concept 2 rowers.
Great place to workout or play basketball. There's also a really good smoothie shop and food.
Extra large free weight room, family room with a bounce house, and an upstairs cardio area
Great gym pretty packed early mornings and during lunch hours but night time is all yours
Emense amount of equipment. Multiple rooms. However it may be crowded at peak times.
Plenty of space and equipment to use. Running tracks outside are in good condition.
Very clean, the people there take an active approach to keeping it squared away.
Comprehensive gym with a full range of weights and equipment well maintained.
Very sanitary and clean. Wide variety of equipment to use to get your gains.
Spacious and lots of equipment. They could use a second basketball court.
Would be nice to have some speed bags available. Otherwise, really nice
Probably one of the best gyms I've been to on a military installation.
Amazing gym. The AF definitely knows how to build amazing facilities.
Great gym. Can get busy in the morning with retirees and active duty
Great facilities for visiting service members. Great basketball gym.
Impressive gym with lots of equipment. Spacious & clean. Top notch!
The most fabulous vast and fully comprehensive gym you'll ever see.
Everything a civilian gym has, and it's pretty quiet too. Awesome.
Nice rubberized track with stations for pull ups and a lot more.
Top notch equipment always well maintained. Super clean facility
Has some of the best variety of a gym that I have ever been to.
Great for working out but gets pretty crowded during the day.
Connie led an all star cycle 45 class. Great work out class.
great facility, lots of different equipment to use and space
One of the best gyms I have been to. Amazing!!! Very clean.
Great equipment and facilities for your exercise needs.
Great place,24 hour access, plenty options of equipment.
Always professional staff! Very clean and easy to use.
Great base gym, Best part are outside facilities
This gym has everything you need and then some!
Good gym. Has pretty much everything you need.
Super helpful staff loads of machines
Great gym. Clean with friendly staff.
Big gym with plenty of equipment.
One the best gyms I’ve been too
Great place to train and relax.
Very clean and nice place.
Best place to workout.
