"We stayed in The Cottage"
"SO CHARMING!! We were looking at staying at historic sites while in Tasmania, and this one exceeded our expectations! For a month's stay, it wouldn't serve but for a short stop it was DELIGHTFUL! So well laid out, with so many details that showcased the era and reminded us of Nana and time past"

"What a little gem of a place"
We stayed in The Cottage. The breakfast basket on its own is worthy of a 5 star rating. I cannot believe how much stuff was packed into that basket - honey, vegemite, bread, butter, jam along with an apple, banana, grapes and 4 types of breakfast cereal. There was also mini chocolates. The room itself is small. It is suitable for a couple, but not children. The ensuite is also small but has a toilet, modern shower, basin and bench space. If you need to hang clothing, there are some hooks in the corner of the main room. The heater works exceptionally well to the point where it was almost too warm. The double bed has mosquito netting and quaint linen with 6 pillows. It was a very comfortable nights sleep! The lady at Reception was lovely and so helpful. We paid $111 for The Cottage and it was money very well spent . It does a a small area out the front with two chairs and a table which would be lovely on a warm day/night. I thoroughly recommend this accommodation, but only for singles or couples. It is not big enough to stay with children. However they have larger rooms available if required.
SO CHARMING!! We were looking at staying at historic sites while in Tasmania, and this one exceeded our expectations! For a month's stay, it wouldn't serve but for a short stop it was DELIGHTFUL! So well laid out, with so many details that showcased the era and reminded us of Nana and time past. The willow pattern dishes, the chamber pot, and the embroidered chair were lovely. But the best part is the way the modern conveniences were also there - a wonderfully complete bathroom, plenty of power points, and lights. Snuggling on the sofa, and being able to watch a movie (using an HTML cable we brought) was tremendously relaxing, plus listening to the rain pitter-patter on the roof reminded me of childhood... So lovely!! The stairs were steep and narrow, but as long as we didn't have to climb them days on end, everything else was perfect!!

Beautiful Accommodation in Old World Charm. Stayed at this lovely place twice in January 2018. Chick & Tracy are fabulous host, and certainly made us feel very comfortable at The Old Barracks. We checked in late, 10.30pm and they let us book out the next morning when we were ready. This was most appreciated. The rooms are very comfortable with lots of Old World Charm also fitted out with all the new essentials required. Chick & Tracy provide a generous breakfast basket to get you off too a great start for the day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay so much that we booked again for our last night in Tassie. This is also a big plus, very close to Hobart Airport. Tracy gave us a upgrade to the Family Room with a spa, absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Tracy & Chick for the way you looked after us. Very Greatfull. Will certainly return and recommend you to everyone. Cheers, Trevor & Mary Dove. Perth, Western Australia.
The Sorell Barracks are cosy, unique and full of history. The rooms are quirky and charming and beds very comfortable. A personal welcome note and basket of goodies was much appreciated.

The location is perfect as a base for exploring nearby towns and beaches. There is an amazing antique store close by filled to the brim with every collectible imaginable.
Walkability
Less than a minute's walk to an amazing antique store and in what felt like a very quiet, safe area.
Food & drinks
Wonderful welcome basket of goodies and a fridge and microwave if needed. So close to the Pembroke Hotel which offers great meals.
What a little gem of a place. Managed to snag a last minute booking in a spa suite, enroute to the Tasman Peninsula to hike Shipsterns Bluff. Perfect getaway, had a soak with a glass of bubbles, and then a comfy night in the beautifully appointed queen room. So many fantastic flourishes giving each room a unique style and maintaining the history of the place. A great location, close to Hobart and a short drive to the Tasman Peninsula or the east coast by way of Orford. Lovely array of complimentary snacks on arrival. Highly recommend!

Wonderful. Phoned to book short notice and from the first interaction they were fantastic. It's picture postcard beautiful from the outside, and the rooms are done up beautifully to match. I would definitely stay here again, after spending two nights in two separate rooms. Highly recommend. The only (very slight) negative was that my second room didn't have a HD TV tuner, so it limited quite significantly the tv options. But it was really only a very slight negative and wouldn't stop me from giving them 5 stars.

We really appreciate the professional and kind customer service that was provided by Terry and Lynn in the Barracks. We had the most wonderful stay, and really appreciated the detail and care with which this historical setting is being offered as an experience for customers. Our children loved playing in the beautiful gardens, and we felt as part of a very special place that made our Tasmanian experience exceptional and memorable. Thank you to Terry and Lynn for all your efforts.
Such an incredible piece of history you can stay in. The rooms are small, but don't feel cramped. It's what you'd imagine a "cosy cottage" to be. The owners are extremely generous with a complementary treat and breakfast basket, which really adds to the charm. They also include a history book for the officers barracks. Really incredible, absolutely worth staying here. Both hobart and the airport are extremely close too!
It was a last minute change to my plans and I was grateful to have a comfortable night's stay in the history laden Sorell Barracks. The complimentary breakfast and nibbles were much appreciated and a wonderful surprise, which I enjoyed in a warm, cosy building. Thank you.

Spent 2 nights in the top storey apartment / loft of these barracks built in 1827. Beautifully furnished with historic furniture and fittings. Well appointed , warm and very friendly feeling throughout. Hosts friendly and helpful with local guidance. Great location to visit historic Richmond and Port Arthur. Watch the steep stairs after a couple.
Beautiful place to stay. Steps to the loft rooms.are steep so be careful. Handy to city by car. Plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. We would definitely stay there agsin

I've stayed at the Barracks 3 times now and I will always come back. It's super clean, the owners Terry and Lynn are lovely and each accommodation is well equipped, cosy, affordable and feels just like home. Handy to the airport, great start point to the east coast and tasman peninsula and short walk to Sorells main St. Highly recommend!
Our room was fantastic couldn't fault it on such a miserable night. The goodies basket was so unexpected but very welcome. The description of our room was as it is on the website. The heater kept us very warm. My hubby left his phone in the room and our hosts who live on site were happy to come out to let him back in to retrieve it.
we stayed for 3 nights and Tracy and Chick were wonderful hosts. Very clean attic room, lots of character and a fresh brekky basket each day. wouldnt hesitate to recommend or go back. exceptional value too! a good base for Port Arthur and Hobart.

Luxury, Quiet, Great value
My wife has stayed here before as her parents live in Sorell. We had the small cottage and it was lovely for a couple. My wife previously stayed in the larger rooms with my son, daughter and her fiance. The rooms are cosy, clean and functional. We will definitely book again. The breakfast basket was also a treat.
We stayed in B5, the little cottage in the middle. We arrived late from the airport, the reception was unmanned however there was a lovely note for us. When we got into the room, it was just perfect. It was cosy, but neat, tidy, clean and the owners had gone out of their way to make sure we were comfortable.
What a lovely accommodation!Just check in and surprised by the lovely pastoral style room and a hand-writing letter by host and a full complimentary welcome basket with snacks.Especially the hand writing letter make me feel so warm after a long cold journey❤️Thank you so much Terry and Lynn!
Great place to relax . Lovely brekkie basket. Great period place. Ideal location for travel to Port Arthur. And very close to Hobart airport. Topped off with charming hosts.
