"Usually pretty quiet with enough space to spread out"
Recently adopted 2 rescue pups and took them here this afternoon. They were having fun until a white pit bull was running straight for one of my pups and the middle age female owner was running after screaming her pit bulls name (I immediately ran over). The pit bull was attacking my scared dog who kept trying to get away. She had a group of 5 or 6 dogs with her and her white pit bull (red dog jacket with black) was not listening at all to any commands given. She finally got the pit bull after half a dozen attacks on my one dog and said sorry her dog is friendly to dogs only that it knows. I simply said if you have an aggressive dog you SHOULD NOT bring it to an off leash dog park!! Then another one of her dogs started to attack my other pup!! Unfortunately this was my pups 1st experience at an off leash park and I left in tears. If you have an aggressive dog or if your dog doesn't listen, please DO NOT bring them to off leash parks - these are for happy social dogs with good manners!! The park itself is awesome.
This is a great off leash dog park. Parking is not the best. Normally a very quiet area. Surprisingly after the first 5 walk into the park you don't hear the traffic from deerfoot. Not 100% fenced in, fully fenced along deerfoot/ east side. Dogs are more or less Corralled as the east is fenced and the west is a cliff. Takes about 1hr to walk all the way to the very end and back. Has a gravel path which is good for strollers and lots of small hills. Has access to the bow river at the very end of the park if you exit the gated area. Runs along the storm run off which has a wooded area for the dogs to explore. Great spot to see the fireworks during stampede or Canada day and perfect spot for sunsets.
Watch your step. It's either ice or dog poop. Which is sad as it's a great spot to walk your dog. It's a public park so mostly grading on the lack of accessable garbage cannisters to place your dog's business. There is one across the parking lot. But to be fair I don't think most people wanna carry around poop for 2+ km in a slowly rotting bag. The hills are a great work out but a little slick in the winter. How ever the view from the entrance over looking the city beside the rock is beyond amazing . Parking is a bit of a pain with the small slopped lot. But honestly a great park just don't wear your good shoes.
Beware! Warning! Saw a coyote here on April 12th while walking the dogs so we walked further away and it stalked us so we left right away! The parking lot is really small and you clearly need an all terrain vehicle to park in some of the rutted out stalls. There is a ginormous amount of dog excrement just along the edge of the escarpment. It looks like a great park otherwise, but best to stay away from the coyotes! Especially since they aren't scared of humans or dogs and seem really interested in following you! People at the park are really friendly.
Usually pretty quiet with enough space to spread out. Water access to a canal, but beware because the water can be gross and smelly when not flowing a lot or at the end of a season. If you go far enough you'll get to an unfenced area that allows access to train tracks, so make sure you're comfortable with your dog's recall ability if you go that way. Also the only garbage is in the parking lot which leads to a lot of lazy people not picking up after their dog
A great place to take your floof for a walk especially around sunset! Pros: Quiet. Lots of open field to run around. Canal for swimming in summer. Long paths through trees. View of the city and mountains. Picnic table. Big rock. Cons: The entrance doesn't have a full gate (not a big deal). Old train bridge on the far end is not closed off (recall or avoid). No bins except entrance/parking lot or across the canal (easy to cross in winter). Limited parking.
I run in this park and I gotta say that dog owner etiquette is at an all time low. Almost every time I’m there a dog runs after me, sometimes biting me. The only thing I can think of doing is carrying a dog booping stick when I run. A loving boop to a dogs cute little face might be all it takes. I know it’s an off leash area but it’s also a people area. Control your dogs people, it’s not your run-down poor neighbourhood park anymore. Have some class
It is large but you hear deerfoot trail trafic for alot of it. There is some water to walk along. Like a large creek. Nice there. Lots of large dogs. 2 out of 3 times had an issue with large dogs. 1 was out of control with long leash. Wrap my legs and almost down. Owner said she told me to watch it. Next one chase my minpin and growling. Pick him up and dog jumping on me trying to get him Owner on phone abit away behind tree.
We come here all the time especially in the winter as the paved walking path is cleaned of the ice and snow. You need to know where your dog is as some areas are close to the road and it's not fenced. Biggest issue is with other users who don't clean up after their dogs. Also those who drop their garbage instead of putting it in one of the many bins.
Huge open park with a fantastic view of downtown in the distance. A nice walk on the ridge or you can saunter through on grass or densely packed gravel. There is also a pathway at the bottom of the ridge along the canal. Only one garbage can at the entrance and so much dog poop from irresponsible pet owners. A great park for long walks.
Large park with nice city views. Love walking by the ravine in the summer. Dog owners that come here are pretty good at picking up after their dogs but the park would benefit from a few garbage cans in the park as most people don't want to carry the poo bags tie them in trees to grab on the way back (and of course, forget to).
I enjoyed it because it was smaller, less busy, relatively convenient. There's only one poo bin at the entrance - must carry poo or pick up on way out. Canel is easy to access at some points but can be problematic farther down park if your dog runs down hill and across canel. Gorgeous view of downtown and sunset
Tonnes of space for doggies to run, lots of hills for exercise...fully fenced along the highway side with full access to the waste canal on the other side...the only waste can is in parking lot, so you have to carry your baggie of dog poop the whole time you're walking.
Hidden gem in the city! It's actually our favorite!! Small parking area can be a deterrent though. Winter parking can be a little tough at times. There is NO waste disposal within the park, only in the parking lot area, so please be prepared to "pack your poop"!
Been the first time I've ever been to a dog park. So I was nervous bringing my pup to the park. The people there reassured me it was a safe place and even gave me a few tips. The people there are super nice and my pup had a blast meeting new puppy friends.
Parking can be a bit scarce and and only one garbage can off the road near the parking area makes for a challenge disposing of dog waste; forgotten bags litter the park, sadly. Other than that, great park. Goes on for a while; great for a nice long lap.
Gorgeous dog park. Massive area for your dog to run. Would give 5 stars if there were garbage cans available inside the park. Unfortunately people either don’t pick up after their dog or just leave the bags laying around because there’s no garbages.
My dogs and I always have a good time at this park. It's big, has open areas as well as trees for the dogs to explore, during the summer it's great with the river going through. The only downside is that there is only one garbage bin at the
This park just recently became an ‘official’ Off Leash Park. It’s bittersweet because for years this was our hidden local favourite and with the new popularity there is quite a mess as people are not picking up for their dogs and there is
Area was very nice. Noticed to many poop bags dropped on ground as there are no garbage disposal bins throughout the walk. The garbage is back where you park your vehicle. To bad city can't put in a bin half way through the walk.
It's a big park, beautiful and well taken care of. The people are nice and we have never had a problem here, it's nice having an off leash park in this area. The parking is the only problem but not much can be done there.
It's nice relaxing area not a lot of dogs during the day walk along the canal and look at the water and watch the little baby ducks swimming along good place to let your dog have a swim hope you all have a great summer
Not a dog owner but can see why this place would be popular. Beautiful views of Calgary to unwind to while getting your fur baby some exercise. Actually spotted up here to catch a glimpse of the Stampede Fireworks.
Great place too hike thru, lots to see from West side, city, river, some rail yard action too plenty of trains. Wish there was additional trash bins, guess the city doesn't make too much of an effort in this area.
#dogpark is huge, open, and great for off leash. Could have a better way in/out as dogs can run into the parking lot around the vehicles. Needs some upkeep as not all people are cleaning up after their pets.
Its open & hilly, lots of room for dogs to run & play, nice few of bike & dog pathway below, water is clear in summer when they let Bow river run through for your fur baby to swim. …
lovely cheating (?) couple making out (in 1 car but 2 cars parked). other than that, mud must be graded and gravelled at the corner of 34th ave. by the city. hooe thus in the plans.
Not many dogs or people but it's a hidden gem if your dogs are okay exploring on their own. Traffic noise from Deerfoot is a bit loud but views to the west make it worthwhile!
Nice little park, pretty quiet and peaceful.. only saw 2 other people. It was winter when we came, so didn't visit the canal. Took the obligatory rock picture …
Amazing view, nice and long, river access, this place is The Best. Responsible owners always visiting, and never really gets too packed. Our favorite dogpark in the coty
The park needs more trashcans. There is only one at the beginning in the parking lot, which means people are more inclined to leave the bags of poop in the field.
Great view, nice place for a walk on your or with the pooch...Can't really complain when you live in a growing city...A nice bit of green space for sure.
It was awesome as usual you can take 20 minute route 40 minute route to our route Always by the water people are just super friendly there as well
Uphill, downhill, runs near the canal so the dog has water. Not too busy most of the time. It can be a physical walk for the dog owner though! Lol
A place where the husband and the dog are offleash from the wife with a couple beer! Soon the park will be sponsored by Kokanee. …
Great place, fenced in along the highway for safety and is an awesome park. Dogs absolutely love this park and have tons of room to explore.
Awesome park for dogs, nice long fenced space, access to water and trail along side the canal
Dog-friendliness
Fenced, water access
Great area to get a run in with the dog. If you do a loop you can do 5 km run + 25 minute walk & as many canal swims as the dog wants.
Friendly pet owners, spacious park. You can actually see normal people without Starbucks coffee and designer cloths. Fairly clean.
Awesome park it's wonderful place to take your dog's lots of room for them to run andplayy definitely one of the best in Calgary!
Great views of the city can be had from this park. Not a lot of parking and few garbage cans but it is a decent off leash park.
Beautiful spot but only 1 garbage can (near parking), would be great if the city could add more throughout the park!
We always go to Sue Higgans so we switched it up. This place did not disappoint, beautiful views and lots of room.
Completely unleashed with great views of the deerfoot so you can monitor Calgary's worst drivers while you walk.
Great place to take your dog, however be careful of Gopher holes, fetch toys will be lost and legs may be hurt!
GOD BLESS ME AND MY FAMILY I LOVE JESUS. PS IT IS REALY HOT OUT BUT I ENJOYED THE RIVER AND WALK WITH NEILA.
Although parking is severely limited the park itself is really big. Nice view of the city from here as well
Dog owners good at picking up after their pets. Same can't be said for the homeless people using the park.
We LOVE this dog park. Huge park with a lot of free space to explore. Would definitely recommend!!!!
Nice walk hills on top and walk by the canal below just one garbage at entrance is only bad thing
Such an awesome place for my dogs they love it. Everyone is really friendly. Not over crowded.
Great view , particularly last night of the fireworks people was barely keeping distance...
Always fun the fur kids have a great time. People are pretty friendly for the most part.
This is one of my favorite walks with my pup....love that it is a loop and lots of space
Great place to take your furry friend for a walk. Great for socializing young dogs
Absolutely love this dog park.. I can get a workout in as well.. Hills and trails
Nice park! Nothing fancy. Parking is a bit Meh, but the views make up for it!
Once park. The noise from Dwerfoot Trail takes away from the park setting.
Not as busy as other parks but bring good winter boots in the winter
It has trails for dog to run up and down. My dogs love this place.
This is a nice spot to do some photography of the downtown core.
Great place for the dogs to run and even have a bit of a swim.
Okay off leash area. Not overly scenic, but does the job!
Nice view, but there is too much to do there. It's fine
My favorite place to walk my dogs and be at peace.
Crisp clear day .....clarity calmness …
Server was nice, food is just great as expected
Calgary tower, excellent spot to view the city.
I love coming here just to see the cute doges
Great if your dog is used to off leash parks.
I really enjoy to be here nice place to relax
Great place for dogs to socialize and run!!
Canel is drained but still love the trails
Great place for your dog to drop a deuce.
Great views, quiet and great for walks.
Fun walk with or without the puppies
This park is very well taken care of
Love walking through the trails...
Great fun for my three fur babies.
So many mosquitoes. Come prepared
