The park refurbishment is now finished and it looks fantastic. This lovely oasis in the heart of Old Toronto now includes a brand new band stand, with a structure that reflects the soaring arches inside the adjacent church. There are a lot of elements here, with many places to sit. The addition of the children's playground with a food theme that reflects the nearby St. Lawrence Market is terrific! This is most definitely a community park, with free yoga offered during the summer months, among other events. Pro tip: Visit the park at night when you see the band stand lit up. Colourful light projections are made on the sidewalk and glass. St. James Cathedral has recently undergone a bit of a transformation and is now also illuminated in the evening with lighting.

It's a great medium sized park, with lots of attractions like a flower garden with fountain, gazebo, playground, a nice stage, and with a backdrop of gothic St. James Anglican Church. Lots of friendly people, dogs, and children; it has nice benches to hang out in. I wish the Adelaide side had better grass and the police did a better job of removing squatters but it's generally a safe park.
Playground
Nicely maintained, with swings, a nice long slide, a carousel, and more!
Dog-friendliness
This is a dog friendly park. Though officially a leashed dogs' park... Unofficially, people do hang out without their dogs' leashes by the side of the church.

St James Park is a true gem that caters to families and nature enthusiasts alike. I always have had delightful experience at this enchanting park. There was impressive variety of tulips in winters. The well-maintained paths and walkways are not only aesthetically pleasing but also accessible for visitors of all ages. The park is also surrounded with many eateries, and also offers a good view of CN tower. It is a good spot to unwind and appreciate the serenity of nature. You can get engrossed in a captivating book, or engage in heartfelt conversations, or simply enjoy the solitude.

Listen. I know what the city is trying to do, but it's not going to work. This area is and always will be a hub for drug use and homelessness. The only reason I'm ever in this park is to walk my dog and that in itself is always a crapshoot..... literally and figuratively
Playground
looks like fun, new equipment but still in a terrible park
Dog-friendliness
dogs love it...owners not so much. incredibly muddy, garbage laden. not to mention that the homeless use this area as a toilet more than the canines.

There is a nice playground structure for the kids. My daughter likes the spinning wheel thing and the newly installed mist spraying thing. Not sure what either are called. She also likes to climb up that big box thing to go down the slide, but she doesn't actually like the slide. As a result, she climbs back down the other way... She also likes to walk on the asparagus/carrot/chopsticks thingy. I think they are carrots, however, I have heard varying opinions as to what they actually are.

Probably the nicest park in the Toronto downtown area - formal gardens, green space, mature trees, a market vegetable themed playground ( yes you read that correctly) and relative tranquility. Views onto King St and the St James Cathedral framed by the bank ‘towers of power’ in the background. Worth a while to sit and people or butterfly watch - grab something from st Lawrence market and lunch on the grass or sneak a beverage in and just watch the world go by

lovely green space in the heart of the city, right by the monumental St. James Cathedral. many benches and trees, there is a super cute fountain (you can watch pigeons taking baths in it and squirrels drinking from it). an interesting wooden pavilion, that looks great but does not provide much shade or shelter from rain. there is a playground right next to it. walking distance from Yonge street. a great place for take out lunch or just to chill.

For those in the St.James area, strolling through the park and stopping to see the spring colors is a great option. The square has a beautiful cathedral, benches and a beautiful space with flowers. On the lawn of the cathedral it is possible to play with the dogs, but remember to collect your pet's feces. The location is close to many bars and restaurants and the Market, and even has a playground further down the road. Worth knowing.

My friend wanted to take me there because it's their favorite garden and I was absolutely not disappointed. After a long day on the town, this was a perfect place to sit, take a few pictures of the lovely gardens, and just enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. Also, I made a point to my friend of really liking "evil looking churches", and that church next to it is the most beautifully evil looking church I've ever seen.

The city sure did a great job at revamping the park. You can find many cozy beautifully designed nooks to hang out in. The park is very family friendly, with a playground and lots of picnic tables/benches. In the middle you will find a new installation that mimics the arches of the neighboring cathedral and is a perfect homage to the history of this beautiful old Toronto area.

Got to love the gardens. Nice early in the morning. Colourful and beautiful
Playground
There’s enough space and variety of ways for children to get busy on the sand
Dog-friendliness
People tend to bring their dogs to walk them at this peaceful park
Picnic area
A couple to tables where to sit close to the playground and nice grass as well to rest and chill.

  • Jakub Danielak

The gardens are beautiful. Saw an owl once in a tree on the east side of the park. Great during the day, but can attract some unsavory characters at night. Church looks nice. In the summertime, lots of wedding photos happening, and there's the odd film shoot. Can get crowded with people and pets but still a nice reprieve from the nearby hustle and bustle.

  • Petre Diaz

One of the most beautiful parks in the old city just beside St james Cathedral. It is a grate space for lunch during summer. It is conveniently located near St Laurent market so one can get food there and enjoy it in the park. Additionally to the flowers, green space and old trees the park has a large playground. It is a must if you are in the area.

  • Eric Kwan

Lot of tree cover but a tad crowded when there is an event. Great natural lighting so it doesn't feel artificial. The King St Streetcar offers a bit of peace and quiet along one of the 3 facing sides towards the street. Great spot yo meet or have lunch in the park.
Picnic area
Wouldn't recommend sitting on the grass but the benches are nice.

  • Kristine Morris

St.James Park is a jewel in the heart of downtown. With the new market-themed playground and coming upgrades to the pavilion, pathways and lighting, those in the community are fortunate yo live nearby. There is now a Friends of St. James Toronto group (@FSJPToronto) encouraging programming and grass-roots stewardship of the park.

  • Jay A

Lovely park beside the cathedral at King and Church. A little piece of green space around concrete blocks. Great to relax at the menu benches. There's a kids playground, stage, and flower garden.

Big fan of this park! Located beside the historic St. James Cathedral (where you can stroll in during the summer to enjoy organ music). This park is great for dates or to bring the family. Leashless dog park, produce inspired playground, fountains and gardens celebrate the history and culture of the St Lawrence market region.

St. James Park is one of Toronto’s oldest and most beloved downtown public spaces, situated immediately adjacent to the historic Cathedral Church of St. James, just north of the St. Lawrence Market. 2021, St. James Park’s revitalization was awarded a Toronto Urban Design Award of Merit for Small Open Spaces.

2020.10.10. We took our coffee today from Fahrenheit and walked to St. James Park. A nice little park in the middle of the city. The weather was great and temperature was 18 degrees celsius. There is a place for kids to play, a space for people to exercise, benches to sit around, and a walkway in the park.

  • Zen Rates

was it clean: yes was it efficient: n/a was it kind: n/a was it straightforward: n/a most importantly WAS IT ZEN? Yes! A lovely spot to enjoy sunshine and green space midst the bustle of the city. Compact playground and plenty benches to people watch and enjoy the St. James Cathedral bells ring!

  • Sakina Dahodwala

Its a cute little park in the downtown area. It has got a food themed playground for kids and its very popular among the children. There is also an open air pavilion with a great and artistic design. I like to sit on the bench, watching the cathedral next door and maple trees lined up in front.

  • Sathira Katugaha

Excellent peaceful park with great ambiance and modern playground equipment for kids. Truly a beautiful place to relax
Playground
Excellent newly built playground that’s pleasing to look at and fun for kids
Picnic area
Plenty of nicely designed benches all around the park

  • Andusca

St. James park is located near the St. James Cathedral (in my opinion the most interesting cathedral or religious building in the ciry). It is a bunch of little gardens where you can find also squirrels which are rare animals for someone who come from italy. It is good for relaxing.

  • Bryan

Park itself is nice. Does attract a somewhat shady albeit generally harmless crowd but that's just the general shadiness of the area (ie: proximity to Cracktown). It's quite a great place to hang out when the weather's great or as a quick short cut during the day to work.

  • Cassidy Cheung

Last time I was in that area was when I went to George Brown a few years ago and the park had an area under renovation! Going there this week I saw the finished park and it's a super nice community green space, lots of flowers and trees. Also so many dogs! …

  • Steven Shih

Awards winning inner city playground designed by Earthscape in downtown Toronto. Paid street parking available. Built in spring 2019 and equipment in good condition. There are asparagus, ice cream cone and carrots in site. Yum~ Super high and fast slide....FUN!

  • Roman

Our favorite park in the city! Right next to the St James Cathedral. Just recently renovated, it has beautiful gardens with a small fountain and also one of the best playgrounds. Though it’s located in downtown it feels calm and relaxing here. Love this place!

  • Chuck Maloney

A little inner city gem. Beautiful flowers pair with and old church and old trees this a great park. Tucked in old Toronto there are lots of areas to hang out with great beauty and activity all about. A great place to sit and soak it all in.

  • Astha Garg

Cute park by the St James church, great for dog walking and leisurely walks.. There is a kids play area with some slides and outdoor games. Also a great place to read by the fountain among all the flora. It's a pretty well maintained park.

  • Christine Custodio

Beautiful large park in the city. Many areas to enjoy like a gazebo, flowers and fountain, under large trees, and listen to the church bells. During the summer, they have music, Shakespeare in the park and movie nights.

  • Devika Brown

Beautiful and picturesque, loves the squirrels, birds and the many varieties of flowers just beautifying the garden and park. Loved the playground for kids (and some for adults). This was overall a nice walk in the park

  • Brad C

Great park after the renovation. Well lit enough that I don't mind walking through late at night. Dog area beside the church is great as well. Great for picnics, bringing kids to the playground, and strolling through.

  • Sidney Enwright

Since the revitalization of this park, I personally find the space more inclusive for our community. There is a space for everyone to relax and enjoy a little piece of heaven within the city chaos.

  • Kanchan Kumar

Wonderful park for kids and adults. It has got so many trees so summers are always cool. Even its great with the autumn leaves and St. James cathedral in the vicinity. Lovely spot for photography.

  • Anna Wang

A Beautiful church with pretty long history. It tells people that everyone is welcome to visit inside at the front door. Amazing architecture in dt Toronto and close to the Lawrence Market.

  • Karishma Kishor

Fascinating view and greenery throughout the park. Spacious enough and have a clean walkway. Maintained space for kids to play and adults to just hangout catching sunset or sunrise moment.

  • Aditi M

It’s a lovely park besides the church. Church is magnificent and beautiful. Park is also quite different with slides made in the shape of asparagus and what not. Good place to bring kids.

  • Nihal Brarath

Nice place to sit and collect your thoughts. You can feel the grandiose nature of this place and the huge organs attached are so old timey looking but I wish to hear it play once!

  • Pratik G

Very nice park with lots of benches. Lot of pigeons flying around but it's expected in downtown. In summer evenings, there is sometimes a band playing music so it's pretty cool.

  • Dillon H

This is an above average park, tall slide, wobbly bridge, marry go round, swings and a few other things. It also has a rubber surface. The only drawback is no washrooms.

  • Mac Mehta

The fact that it's right in the heart of downtown Toronto, that's a great place to unwind and for the kids to burn off some energy, makes it only 10 times better

  • Kesh Dheer

Whether it's a walk or just sitting by the tulips, it's a great place for family and dogs. Not 5 stars because at times the homeless camp out by the church.

  • Tim Chase Photography

Great small family park in St Lawrence. Perfect playground area for children and futuristic. Neat and clean. Everyone enjoying an amazing day in Toronto.

  • Paola Rivera Parra

I really like the place, they have Christmas decoration lights. You also can find places to sit and enjoy the view of the cathedral and the squirrels.

My oasis from my apartment. To listen to birds, walk on grass. Listen to children play in the part Park. What a wonderful community.

  • Maria Hernandez

Good park for children to play with water, especially toddlers. It is a small park. There is a tennis court besides it.
