Time for a grouse ! Just left Tailleur . The room is chic . The staff is amiable . Alas ! With the food . It is a bad start for the basics . Flavors are dialed down . For instance __ the Pommes Frites they serve taste like a manufactured product from a food mill . Definitely not twice fried. Most likely air fried. Which is an actionable misnomer . These inflatables are full of little air pockets . Squeeze one ! They are limp, and rife with the ungodly reek of truffle oil . If you dont already know . As a flavoring agent __ truffle oils use 2,4-dithiapentane which is a distillate of formaldehyde . What you taste is lab rat chemicals . Why in the world would anyone want to disguise the flavor of an honest potato in the first place ? Insult to injury __ these stateless refugees are served with catsup instead of aioli . Potatoes __ fresh cut on site ? Not here ! These grade z simulacrums leave our tastebuds stranded , somewhere south of an air souffle . If you have ever tasted a fresh cut batch of , twice fried pommes frites you would know the difference immediately . Like night and day ! And yes ! If you must split hairs . Frites are Belgian . Not french . But real pommes frites are so utterly superior . Nothing will compare to the sublime crunch of a twice fried , string cut potato . Something to dream about because here it ain't . Had the same experience at Billie's Grocery on Gillham . The pesto chicken sandwich looked good , But the pesto was so dummied down with a mystery diffuser that there was no evidence at all for the presence of pine nuts , garlic , olive oil , basel or parmesan. How do they make a chicken so stringy and hard to chew ? Even worse than masticating with lethal intent on a rubber ducky. Had a brownie for dessert . Wish I had passed on that . Be warned. No chairs here. We ate on tree stumps . Both these places are glammed up to a fair-thee-well . But they bow and scrape to the ghost of a culinary standard , stage left of any redeeming qualities in the time honored tradition of what it means to cook . Alas , even if everything does not actually end up tasting the same. It sure feels like it. Like the hum of an anvil chorus . I can still hear the death rattle of their easy bake oven , trilling "make believe" in the vocative head-lock of a Betty Crocker canned-food cook-off . In this town __ we are starved for new and interesting places to eat . Alas ! We oftentimes settle for "something less than" and look the other way when "ordinary" intervenes . Trouble is . With these two eateries . It is all about__ the unforgivable error of choosing style over substance . In any restaurant you are only as good as the last meal you serve . And God is in the details . For a bistro not to serve something as basic as a french baguette with any number of menu items is another clumsy omission we experienced at Tailleur . We actually had to order bread as a side. But it tasted strange and cloying . Sour even , but not like sourdough . It was supposed to come with a much touted garlic butter that never arrived . I am sorta glad it stayed in the kitchen. A fellow diner solved the mystery of the strangeness. They use what seems like pretzel dough to make the bread . The result is a flavor quotient that pairs well with nothing. With the addendum of an aftertaste that lingers on the palate in a most unloving way . Where does that leave the innocent diner ? Decidedly disappointed . We left wishing things had been better. I have no desire to return . After the newness wears off . Both of these places will have a hard time generating steady revenue . Check them out . I have a feeling you might also know the difference between the real thing and a second tier substitute ...

The atmosphere and service for our party of five was great, with the decor/ambiance being the number one impressive thing about Tailleur. Decorated in an equestrian meets antique style, it felt both warm and homey while also feeling elevated and special. Adore the unique vibe similar to The Russell, which I love. The bathrooms are single stall and one of the prettiest, “aesthetic” bathrooms in KC…obsessed with the green wall tile in there! The various vintage plates the meals were served in/on were also delightful and the most lovely, unexpected touch. However, the food itself was unimpressive and didn’t match the surroundings. Risotto is one of my favorite dishes in the world and I was excited to try theirs as many reviewers enjoyed it. Unfortunately my risotto was undercooked, erred too much on the al dente side, and the three scallops were underseasoned, though the texture was fine. The menu description also didn’t mention the inclusion of…butternut squash? I can’t quite tell what the little orangey additions were in the risotto but those were also undercooked and underseasoned so they tasted like nothing and were just unnecessary cubes. My side salad before the meal was also just okay; very little flavor even with cracked pepper, definitely regret ordering that. Regret the bread basket order too…nothing exceptional about it. Usually I’m pretty easily occupied by even an average bread basket but the two breads were just…like chewing nothing. None of us at the table went back for another after our initial pieces. I tried my friend’s chicken paillard and that was tasty; another diner in our party enjoyed the duck (though a French friend of mine who didn’t dine with us didn’t like hers when she visited) and the other two tried a gnocchi special and the sauce was somehow both rich and bland, a bit one note. If I ever return, I would try a meat dish as those seem to be more consistently tasty. Honestly I was pretty disappointed after reading the overall excellent reviews. One of the most charming restaurant atmospheres perhaps also unfairly raised my expectations about the food upon entering but they simply didn’t match. I’d reluctantly give it another shot in case it was just an off night but for the price, it’ll probably be awhile. European comfort food it is not. I’d rather eat at the owners’ other more casual but similar vibe, cheaper but infinitely more delicious spot, The Russell.

The restaurant is gorgeous with an upscale antique vibe. There were many antique fashion items around the store which thrilled me. The service was great with the waitress providing excellent suggestions. For our drinks we got Earl Grey Collins cocktail (14) which was fenomenal. I honestly almost cried when I first tried it. It was very smooth and while I couldn't taste the vodka you could definitely feel it's effects. My partner tried a glass of a white sparkling wine (10). For our appetizers we got the tomato bisque (8) which was also very good (this business is owned by the same people as own the Russel). The soup was cheesy and creamy. We also got their bread with garlic butter (8) the bread was soft and fluffy. For our entrees we got croque monsieur which was a very fancy ham and cheese (19). It came with a side salad that even my salad hating partner liked. I got the bistro burger (19) which was one of the most tender burgers I have ever had in my life. It was like biting through butter. The frites were very good but fries in general are not my thing. For dessert we tried their 3 for 22 deal. We got the lime tart, bread pudding, and chocolate flour less cake. The lime tart was lovely. The bread pudding was fine but not as flavorful as the other desserts. My partner liked the chocolate cake and said that it almost has the texture of a pudding instead of a cake. These desserts were all full sized meaning we got plenty to take home. All of the portions were large and we took lots of food home. Everything was great for a fine dining experience but that comes with the higher price tag. With the bill being over $100 for two people. For a nice dinner I recommend Tailluer but it will cost quite a bit but honestly it was all worth the price and the portions were great.

After reading all the review raving about the food, I took my friend, who is an excellent cook, out for a birthday lunch here. She ordered the steak tartare and I had the quiche and tomato bisque soup. Mine were both perfectly acceptable but I was not wowed. I expected more flavor I guess, my items were quite subtly seasoned, and could have been a little warmer, but I thought the price was fair. She said her tartare was good too, but a bit bland. We both had wine which was good and shared the bread pudding. I’m not a big bread pudding fan, but this was definitely one of the better ones I have tasted. My friend likes bread pudding and thought it was good. We both enjoyed the atmosphere and I made reservations for upstairs on a recommendation from someone who frequents this place. The main floor was well lit with a large window and warm cheery lighting. The upstairs was not as well light and a heavy curtain was drawn so it was quite a bit darker. The entire place was decorated with interesting artwork and antiques. The service was friendly and efficient. I will go back, I think my next dish will be the niçoise with salmon, and I’ll try another dessert too. Looking forward to sitting downstairs next time.

Tailleur made me do it, y'all. This is my first review ever but I had to because we went to church last night. My friend and I visited Tailleur for dinner (+ we were able to secure a reservation the same night, eyy). We started with their house bread... lord, let me tell you about this BREAD.. so warm, so doughy (but not gummy at all)..I would eat it every day of my life and never get bored + it comes with a poppin' garlic butter. Anyway...my friend ordered the pork shank w/ polenta (pictured below) and I ordered the salmon w/ polenta (that polenta was so creamy, comforting + the perfect base for both the meals). We also ordered dessert: the lemon tart and bread pudding (pictured below). It is very important that you leave room for the the bread pudding dessert, specifically. It is served warm with a salted caramel glaze - my mouth is watering just thinking about it. **here's where it gets existential** This food had me questioning my external reality. It's been a long time since I've felt this present with my food, sitting with the flavors and really experiencing every bite. I was so tapped into all of my senses, I savored every moment *end existential rant.* And this is all regarding the food, there is so much to say about the physical space that brings the experience together. It is dark + cozy, the service is fantastic (shouts to our server who brought my friend the LARGEST slice of bread pudding; I can't remember their name but they were great). I promise I'll stop now. Do yourself a favor and just. go.

4.5 Stars if Google would allow it. Tailleur has been on my list for sometime now. We don't live close enough to the area so when we had the opportunity to stay downtown for a fun evening out we made reservations. We love the Russel so we knew would love it here also. From the second we walked in we were greated by a lovely man that explained the atmosphere and decor to us as well and pulled out a table and chairs so my wife could have a seat. That is un-heard of these days in a reaturant. Our waiter was newly employed, but extremely eager to learn and explain things to us. My wife had the summer special salad and I had the rice and bean burger. Both of which we very good. The dessert menu is large and on display front and center which is nice! We loved every single inch of Tailleur and it reminds us of our our own home. The only very small criticism I would give is that the drink menu is limited as they don't have a full bar. That might be by design so that is hard to be upset about when the food, staff, decor, snd atmosphere are perfect. We will be back for sure! Keep it up!

I was excited to visit after reading all the wonderful reviews. I do agree that the restaurant décor is grand. However, I went mostly for the food. The air conditioner did not work, and the temp outdoors was 100. It was miserable. They should of closed the restaurant. I started with ordering the prosecco and they ran out. Settled on a Spanish Sparkle. I inquired about the tuna tartar, I was not familiar with suka tuna. The chef said it comes from the Hawaiian coast. Umm. When I questioned that, he came up with a different answer, and then he said it was a typo. Then he said Atlantic Blue fin which I was more than happy to eat. This is by far the worse tuna tartar I have ever eaten. I could not identify the tuna. The presentation looked like a can of cat food with a raw egg on top (which was not itemized on the menu). The texture was like eating a slimy meatloaf mixture. The spices just didn't work well together at all. So, that was disappointment #3 at this point. The mussels DO come with bread, but we were talked into a bread basket for 2 for 8.00. We didn't appreciate that. However the mussels were good. At this point we made the decision to leave and go somewhere more comfortable and I just did not want to waste any more time or money in there. The service was fine.

Went here for a couples date night and walked away very impressed. The moment you walk in you’re met with an antique style with tons of fun decor, old pieces, and paintings on the wall. The space is small so reservations are important. But the small space makes it feel unique, cozy, and intimate. Our waitress answered all of our questions, along with providing details of each of the meals we were considering. The wait staff were attentive without being overbearing. The food was top notch. Our table ordered the grilled shrimp pappardelle, garden burger with no bun, Cobb salad with steak, and rack of lamb. For guests with gluten allergies, the burger with no bun was still delicious. However, the fries are cooked in oil that is used with gluten items as well. The rack of lamb was tender and perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoning that didn’t overwhelm the savory flavor. The shrimp were well-sized and delicious. Lastly, the salad with steak was great too. We plan to be back soon to try many other menu items!

Had my weekly lunch date with my dad. We both had bacon quiche. Amazing! The egg texture was light & perfect. The crust was the best crust I have ever eaten (Don't tell my gramma). It was flaky & light. Dad had the tomato bisque soup. When he asked the waitress for an extra spoon so I could try it, she brought a small bowl with the spoon. That's exceptional service and also forward thinking. This soup was also extraordinary. I'm not typically a bisque fan - too heavy. Plus, tomato bisque can be acidic. This was the perfect balance of creamy, plus it was flavor-packed with intriguing herbs. This restaurant will be part of our rotation moving forward. I'd rate this as $$ on price but the quality of the food far exceeded that. The staff was professional and friendly. Sorry no photos. Too much fun consuming food to pause for photo op. Go. Taste & see that it is good. You will not regret it.

My friends surprised me with a lovely dinner and cake. Chris the GM wished me a happy birthday as we arrived and popped his head out the door as we left to wish us a good night and happy birthday once more. Forgot remainder of cake on sidewalk set down to take pics and they retrieved and saved for me to pick up…maybe a bit too much wine?? Our server, Rebecca, made sure our drinks and water kept flowing and did an excellent job from start to finish. Dinner was fabulous. Good portions. Perfectly seared scallops. Tomato tart and fried olives were divine. Lamb was spectacular. Service outstanding! Chocolate cake worth going back to retrieve! Wasn’t an ordinary cake. Excellent food, warm and personal attention of staff and atmosphere made for an amazing evening. We dressed up a bit but there was a group of guys with baseball hats next to us. Most patrons were comfortable but nicely dressed. Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back!

Difficult to not gives this 5 stars as the food was amazing and the server did a great job considering he was by himself. We got the French Dip, Chicken Pallard, and the Pork Shank all of which made us want to come back and try new dishes. The sour taste comes from our actual arrival and interaction with the host. We had a reservation for the upper level 1 hour before close and were told our table was still being used and they just bought more wine (they had been there for 2 hours and could have moved them). We were then told the next table also bought another bottle of wine and the kitchen would close at 830 or 845. We were given the option of two other tables in the lower level, right by the door or next to the bathroom. After seeing the upstairs, we we willing to wait it our. A table finally left, we got seated 45 minutes after our reservation and were able to enjoy a nice full meal. I have never experienced a situation like that where the host blatantly made things up to sit us wherever and get done sooner. Tailleur - I hope you read these because while the food is great, the treatment of customers will drive people away

  • Havah Rodriguez

I REALLY wish the food was not quite so….bland! That’s my number one thought and take away after dining here. Each and every person at my table REALLY WANTED to add salt or some kind of condiment to our plates (we all ordered something different, risotto, burger, steak, soup, quiche….) but there was no salt and pepper on the table and our waiter was too busy to help us with this. And really it would be more enjoyable for the food to be flavorful w/o needing any additional condiments. You can tell from the pictures and almost everyone else’s review that the ambience and decor are sensational! The tile is gorgeous, the patio absolutely lovely. This just makes it all the more frustrating to be served not-so-tasty food :-/ and the prices didn’t help. Anywhere else a $25-30 plate would NEED to live up to that price and be delicious! I hope the owners do not rely too heavily on the unique atmosphere and read a lot of these common notes in reviews: the food needs to taste better, PLEASE!

If you read our reviews you'll note how much we love french food. Tailleur has pulled off being a relatively new Kansas City addition yet has the atmosphere and decor of a much older European restaurant. We love the decor we love the tables the floors the attention to the decor is nothing short of a reflection of the food as well as the service. The salads here are by far some of the best and most healthy we have had. We even asked to add salmon to our wedge salad and they did so with no issues at all. The soup of the day is always amazing. If we had the time this restuarant feels like the perfect place to take two hours in the middle of a Saturday walk to drink wine 9r a coffee and try all of their deserts. Along with this they have usual type favorites as well as duck and other seasonal local faire. Do yourself a favor and take your date to this restaurant. They definitely won't be disappointed.

Strike 1: the manager was unprofessional, disrespectful, and rude. When my date and I arrived, we were met by a man, who was the restaurant manager. He spoke only to my date, he never acknowledged me, didn’t even look at me. Strike 2: the Pork Shank arrived cold. It was literally cold. We informed our waitress, who was apologetic and offered to “heat it up.” We declined because we were pressed for time. She said that our drinks would be comped. I expected the manager to make an appearance, but he did not. Strike 3: when we were leaving, the manager was standing near the door. Just as we exited, he had a brief conversation with my date, speaking into her ear, again, never acknowledging me. The food was delicious, minus the cold Pork Shank, the service was average, the manager was unprofessional, disrespectful, and rude.

Wow! Tailleur is a thing of beauty: from the very cool horseback riding theme and gorgeous dark wood meets navy and gold (kinda RL-like from Chicago) to the plates to the honeycomb tile floors (and yes, gorgeous bathrooms). Better yet: it's duhlicious... Hands down winner for me was the cherry-peppercorn pork chop over a brussel sprout-green apple slaw. But that beet salad (fried beet chips?!) was great too: I *need* to know how they made roasted garlic goat cheese taste like that... I admit: I'm usually not a prime rib gal, but Tailleur's is perfectly cooked and seasoned and we got the inside tip to order larger dipping bowls of the jus (I had many "just tastes" of Brian's.) The beef tartar is fantastic: capers and onions, almost a pepperoni vibe to the flavors. And the decadent Instagram-ready dessert case stares you down all night, breaking down your will power until you order FOUR desserts.

Food quality similar to a bar & grill. Pathetically limited drink menu with absolutely no descriptions. Service was abysmal with most interactions being requested by employees passing by. Never heard the servers name, specials of the night, any details about any dishes, etc. Extremely unapproachable restaurant with mediocre food. I’m disappointed to have spent time at this establishment while I could have been anywhere else, especially considering the cost which places it in line with high quality restaurants. Waste of time, money, and excitement.

Beautiful place with an ever changing ambiance. There is a lot of passion in this project. Wait staff is stellar and presentation is Instaworthy. Only issue and this is important, the steak is not good. No flavor and tough. We even heard the guy next to us say the same thing. The gnocchi is a great dish (a little too oily) but unique and fun. The bread basket was the older bread and had no crusty texture or maybe it was just stored in a warmer..chewy. The have nailed the Frites game. I could eat those every day till I die and be happy. Make sure to check out Cheval across the street too.

You can tell the ownership put a lot of time and effort into curating a good atmosphere for an upscale restaurant. On the night of our visit, the AC in the restaurant was not operable, which was not ideal. I will say many restaurants we visited on this trip we’re also having similar AC problems, so we were accustomed to the heat. The food itself was pretty good, best thing that we ordered was the rack of lamb. The French dip sandwich was good overall as was the burger. For as nice as the atmosphere was inside, the food seemed to not quite meet the same level. Our waitress was very nice, but you could tell she was flustered by working in the heat (with no AC) throughout her shift. Got off to a bit of a rocky start, but she did well overall. I would recommend this place as a solid local spot, but since we don’t live in the area we’d probably go elsewhere next time we’re in town.

Where do I begin? There has to be The Russell (sp) Cult. I would surely be a top follower. Just a clarification that I am bias & you should also check out The Russell. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL KANSAS CITY GEM. Can we talk about the decor? The ambiance? The food? The wine selection? The desserts sent straight from the holy St. Pope himself? So look, listen - this place is everything. Literally NOTHING was what I expected in EVERYTHING that is magical about food. The presentation. The FLAVOR PROFILE. The guide through the whole journey was Erik but don't you dare get it twisted - you will see the chefs AND owners (yeah. You read that right) making sure everything is above & beyond. Just stop reading & go try it. If you hate it - honestly do you even understand art?

Unfortunately my meal tonight did not live up to the stellar reviews here. Started the meal with the meat and cheese tray. Four of the five cheeses were bland including the brie. The Rochefort was the only standout. The prosciutto was nothing special, and had a bit of hard and/or dried out gristle which was unpleasant. My husband was unsatisfied with his scallop risotto. The scallops themselves were underseasoned. I did not try the risotto. I ordered the croque monsieur from the new winter menu with creamy tomato soup. Both were rich and delicious, but were served somewhat cool. Our waitress was attentive and did her best (she even sent us home with some complimentary cake in an attempt to make up for some of our disappointment), but the food simply was not good enough. I will not be back, unfortunately.

Interior, 5/5. Staff 4/5 server was attentive but didn't know how to pair wine(offered white wine for a rich duck meal). Atmosphere was 2/5 it was very very hot( I assume they don't have central ac, and only 2 small fans) and very loud so you can't have normal conversation. It was loud because you sit very close to other tables, almost like sardines in the can. Food was 3/5, it was ok but nothing to take home. My pappardelle was bland. You just take pasta mix with ok pesto add cheap 12 month parmesan and 4 shrimps and that's it. Gf duck was slightly more interesting but still barely 4/5. Definitely not worth your hard earned $100+

Fantastic food… Extremely poor execution. We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation, with little to no bar options. The manager offered up apologies but didn’t give us any comps to offset the tardiness. All of the cocktails are premade/batched and they do not offer custom liquor options. What a disappointment for a high end restaurant. As the night progressed our waitress forgot silverware and several items that we ordered were missing. They also charged one of our party members $3 to split a plate of food but did not offer any options to serve on separate plates. The food that we did receive was great. We will not come back. I wish it was a better service and bar experience for such a high end option in KC. Disappointed for sure.

Wonderful food, decor, and even better service. The menu had some good seasonal options but we went with the classic mussels and steak frites. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly! However, the place has major issues with climate control. We would have had dessert or another drink but we suffering due to the insufficient air conditioning. It was 95 degrees outside and I wish we sat in their back patio (also beautiful) because there was a breeze. My plan is to go back again and hope their air situation is fixed. Once it does, this place has potential to be our new regular spot. Or maybe it’ll be our seasonal regular spot once it cools down!

We haven’t been in about a year, but still remember just how incredible the food the service and the atmosphere are. Our waiter was funny and patient and kind, the food is a little pricier but we left completely full and with some leftovers and the food was divine! And the atmosphere? My goodness it’s so cozy and warm and inviting. The perfect fall and winter restaurant in my opinion. You could also just for for dessert and coffee. Their dessert options are also so incredible and beautiful and all made their bakery across the street!

I don’t normally take the time to leave a review but felt I needed to after our experience at Tailleur. Everything about this evening was fantastic. The atmosphere, the service, the food, all of it. We had the bread basket which was really good and so fresh and the mussels which were the best I’ve ever had. For dinner I had the rack of lamb and it was the best lamb dish I’ve had and my husband had the pork shank which was also amazing. For dessert I had the bread pudding, again the best bread pudding I’ve had and my husband had the lemon tart which was also very good. This was our first time at Tailleur but it won’t be our last! Amazing!

Food: outstanding! Decor: outstanding! Staff: outstanding! Truly won’t find many better… But cannot recommend at this time. Why? Because this is Kansas City where it gets 100°, and they have no air conditioning which makes it a miserable dinning experience - especially considering what you’re paying. Apparently the owner is putting funds into expanding into other ventures instead of bothering to finish what she stated at Tailleur. There is no excuse - zero - to not have air conditioning and only a measly two tiny fans for an entire upstairs. In the fall or winter, go and enjoy some wonderful food, atmosphere, and service, but until then (or until they decide to air condition the place) do yourself a favor and wait.

Great addition to the KC food scene. Came here for a birthday dinner for my mom. The atmosphere and decor are perfection. The fox hunting scenes, riding apparel and noodle blue paint set the tone. The marble tables and mismatched dinnerware make you feel like you are dining at home with your family. Love it. The wine selection was decent. Disappointed not to see any cocktails offered. Cheese and meat board was excellent and enormous for the price. The bread was delicious as expected. One star taken away because the risotto part of my scallop risotto was remarkably overdone. It was more mush than risotto. But every other thing we ate was excellent. The frites?! Amazing. Will definitely be back.

We had first tried the Russell a couple of years ago while Tailleur was in the process of being done. (We LOVE the Russell) we've always wanted to come back and try Tailleur since they are owned by same business partner. We are so grateful we gave it a try. We were greeted by Wesley, who was the best waiter. Super kind, always had full water, could recommend menu items since he had tried it all, and ultimately just made our experience great. The food was super good. I had a Cobb salad, my husband had the duck with potatoes and green beans, and we shared the french onion soup. It was incredible. 10/10 recommend.

A phenomenal restaurant that is looking to become our go-to place for date night! We got there a little early for our reservation so we were able to go to their sister cocktail bar, Chaval, across the street while we waited which has some awesome drinks. The food at Tailleur was so freaking good and the service was great! The atmosphere was impeccable (I’m partial to art deco vibes/20’s vibes). We got the pappardelle pesto shrimp and the rainbow trout and we loved both! We had a great experience, 12/10 would recommend! Note: there is a parking lot behind the restaurant.

Loved the ambiance. Lighting is a touch too low. Decor is super cool. Service was on par. Bar options are limited for cocktails, and dependency on sister bar when sister bar is closed is nonsense. Party of 5! Lamb was spot on. Bread was good but not exactly European quality. Mussels were nice. Wine was good. Scallops and risotto were tasty, but 3 medium scallops didn’t meet expectations. The spring salad on the bed of risotto wasn’t working for the 3 people served the dish. I get the contrast of the perfect Al dente risotto they served. Scrape off the semi wilted spring salad to uncover delicious dish just missing more scallops. IDK: try carrot kill the spring salad?

  • Mari D

The interior and exterior or restaurant is so cute. Very Parisién - reminded me of the cafes in Paris. I got a cheese and meet plate to share and I have to say, the cheeses and meet combo were very salty and there was nothing to compliment/help cleanse the palate. Adding bread and some fruit for extra would make a world of difference. The fries to accompany the burger were not my favorite but the burger was decent. Overall, I’d return for the atmosphere.

Our table was to the right of the front door at the window. They have a blind pulled down, but the heat from afternoon sun was brutal. We both had sweat dripping down our faces by the end of our meal. The owners might look into insulated blinds for the front windows as the heat really affected our visit. The food was delicious. Beet salad 5/5, Gnocci Primavera 5/5, Salmon 4/5. It got really busy about 20 minutes after we arrived and we had to flag down the waitress a couple of times. Still she was really polite and gave good suggestions. Great place but that heat was brutal.

Excellent food and great atmosphere! My sister and I took our mom to Tailleur for an early Christmas celebration and had a fantastic dinner and experience. The atmosphere is great - it’s a small space with a ton of atmosphere. The place was packed on a Friday night but service was efficient. We had the delicious Mussels appetizer, the lamb, quiche and beet salad as entrees and the food was universally good. Overall it was a really lovely evening and Tailleur really delivered.

Gorgeous, eclectic, restaurant!! Delicious variety of foods. My fav desserts were the lemon & key lime tart! You can dine upstairs when the downstairs is full or with reservations. There’s a beautiful patio in back. At night the lights are on to set the mood! Lots of things to look at displayed along the beautifully colored walls. The drink selection could be a little better reg the cocktails. They now have open the champagne bar called Cheval & a dessert shop will be opening in the fall also. Great place to take guests from out of town!

The service was absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant itself is very comfortable and gives strong Parisian bistro vibes. The drink menu is smaller, but has good offerings. The appetizers were good. The tartare was possibly the best I’ve had in KC. The mains were less than impressive. My wife had the salmon which was just teetering on the edge of being overcooked, it was sent out sans skin and extruding albumen which is not a palatable look on a plate. The pork shank was boring and under seasoned to say the least. Both of our polenta was clumpy and under seasoned. I would give it another shot at a future date.

Service was exceptional from my entry to my exit. Care and consideration was taken to where I was seated. My server Stephanie provided invaluable information on the menu, nonalcoholic beverages, and tangible features of the restaurant. I decided on the Bistro Burger. It was an amazing combination of flavors and textures. The beverage was a special concoction Stephanie created, featuring cranberry juice, lemonade, and Seltzer . I enjoyed the unique flavor . out of 5 dinner plates!

Rating is probably between 3 and 4. Mussels were amazing!! I had risotto and it was a little stiff and too done. Another person had duck and it was over cooked. French dip was really good and the chicken paillard was okay I’m told. Everyone told us this place is amazing. Ambience is cute - the 1st floor definitely has a lot more energy than the 2nd floor. And the dessert was a bourbon pecan dessert which was okay but really needs to be served warm with ice cream; seemed like an afterthought. I would go again, but there was some disappointment in the food Waitress was very sweet

  • Kyle Carlson

$32 for three small scallops. The risotto tasted like pure butter. Couldn’t finish my tiny $13(!) coffee cocktail because of the funky taste, and the meat & cheese plate was the most lackluster I’ve had. Left half of the prosciutto because I couldn’t even bite through the first two pieces. The place was super loud. MAYBE 10% of the people in there had masks. I guess the pandemic is over in KC… $120 For a dinner for two, and I left so underwhelmed. I can’t give any place a one star review, but I will for sure never come back, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Sorry Tailleur.

Came upon Tailleur while walking through midtown and decided to try it for dinner. Amazing, beautiful, simple French food. Unlike most places right now, they are not short staffed in the back of the house and the food came out very quickly. Can’t wait to try again. Update: Went again last night and was so disappointed! The quality of the food dropped off a cliff since our first visit. On our first visit, I felt like I’d found a hidden gem and it was worth every penny. This time felt over priced and sloppy. I hope it was an off night. Taking a star off for now.

  • Holly Lorraine

Lovely spot for a delicious dinner. Speakeasy vibe. The server, Kirsten, was very busy, but it didn't ruin our evening. They have a charming patio behind the restaurant. Grilled Ceasar is large and should be shared. All entrees ordered were delicious. Desserts were just as wonderful. Ample parking behind the restaurant. Don't hesitate, make a res!

Wasn't sure what to expect but the food was excellent. I don't think I have ever ordered a Pork Shank and it was excellent and presented well. My wife and tasty lamb chops. The Tomato Basil and French Onion soups were better than average. There is a limited bar, more of a wine spot. Seating is 2 floors with the upstairs a little more quaint. They opened up a smaller Wine Bar across the street with limited apps that appears like a nice place from outside.

The aesthetic and food of this restaurant is outstanding. I had the duck breast, never had it cooked the “steak” way before and it was so delicious. Pricey but the portions are reasonable. The location of the restaurant is kind of hidden so it might be confusing if it’s your first time coming to this place. The service was average . We had a larger party, our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable but wasn’t really attentive to us when we got our food.

This restaurant is my new favorite place to dine in. The ambiance and design of this place is immaculate. Perfect for a lunch in or date night! I came in a recommendation, and was not disappointed. This is the first time in a long time that nobody was disappointed in anything. The tartare was excellent to start, and both of my friends loved their meals. But I had the nicoise (sp?) and it was pure heaven. Absolutely incredible. Every bite was a new flavor. I'm in a hurry or I would attach the picture. Also, we got the dessert sampler, and everyone loved dessert: chocolate cake, carrot cake, and bread pudding were all superb. Eat here. You're welcome.

  • Andi Kahclamat

I really wanted to like this place. But the food just wasn't very good and it was hotter inside than outdoors on a July night. All the staff were dripping sweat and soaked through their clothes. The waitress warned us off of multiple dishes. Then the food we did order was not cooked correctly. One dish was still cold in the middle. A shrimp dish was so severely overcooked that it was like eating shrimp gum. Disappointing.

Tailleur is just as fabulous as I hoped it would be. A small menu, but everything is beautiful and very tasty! Lots of delicious pastries to choose from as well. There is table service at this location. The entrance is accessible, as are the restrooms. They are gender neutral. They're working on developing a space upstairs, which will be a space used for serving high tea. Unfortunately, due to the age of the building, to access the space it is not accessible. Staff are masked per COVID protocol.

Yes, I adored this classy French restaurant. It’s not snobby. It’s got a friendly vibe. All ages come to dine. You can spend a little or a lot and it’s all delicious and nicely seasoned! Everything was top notch, from the reasonable prices, the staff and service, and of course the food. The rack of lamb was incredible, the brussel sprouts were the best I’ve had. I loved the crispy texture of the polenta cakes but they weren’t my favorite. The muscles and that broth were so amazing. The wine and old fashioned were very good. Oh and I tried a bit of my friends filet, WOW that thing was incredible. I will be coming back here without a doubt, incredible experience thanks guys!

Late Wednesday afternoon, I went to Whole Foods to pick up my Thanksgiving meal. They did NOT have my order in their system. On the way home, I stopped at Tailleur for a glass of wine. I decided to order my Thanksgiving meal here. The waiter expertly knew the menu and what food would "travel". The kitchen put all ingredients in separate boxes so that I could assemble them the next day. Wow, they were easy to assemble and delicious. Thank you for saving my Thanksgiving Day!

Beautiful English fox hunting lodge/riding club aesthetic. They offer a Classic French fine dining menu. The fancy ambiance is nice for a celebratory feel. The shrimp pesto had great flavor, but the salmon dish that starts with an N had about as much flavor as if I made it at home without many spices. We loved the lime tart for dessert! I think it could be an even better space if they dimmed the lights and found a way to absorb some of the sound. If you have to wait, their partner bar (Cheval) is right across the street and they'll call you when your table is ready.

  • Kasim Hardaway

Tailleur is in a class of its own. I honestly drafted then redrafted this review several times because I could not find words to accurately describe how incredible the food was. Start with the bread basket, if you’re famished—go for the pork shank & do not skip on dessert. The bread pudding was the best bread pudding I’ve ever eaten in my life.

The food was hit or miss. Several proteins were ordered and tried at the table. Some were cooked well and others were not. General plating was ok. The salad was disappointing as it did not have very many greens and was overdressed. Desserts were also alright, but not great. Not a place i plan to return, unfortunately. The menus were nice and the ambiance was also nice. Slightly warm in the building as well, which was not ideal.

  • Jennie Scislow

I would give it a 6 stars on ambiance, interiors, and presentation. It was a beautiful dinner and friendly staff. I would 100% go back for a dessert or drink. However, food did not live up to my expectations at all. The Russel, under same ownership, has better food at a better price. The quality of food was good, but the flavors/seasonings were just off. I did enjoy the salmon bisque appetizer but that’s all I can say.

  • Luke Payne

The location is very well put together and the service was excellent. Our food was good but from plating to finesse it could be just a bit more refined. We enjoyed our meals, there was nothing bad, but of the entire experience, the food was the lowest rated. We'll definitely give it a try again in a few months and hope for evolution.

We were placed by the drafty door even with an early reservation. Our server was slow and forgetful. During dinner the door was propped open by staff without explanation allowing a draft to make us cold along with our food. The food was pleasing although service was incredibly slow. We had entrees and dessert but we were at the restaurant for almost 2 hours. Perhaps there are some new restaurant growing pains.

  • Jeannie Clements

Ended up here for a late lunch with the family. Very cute & intimate setting for a date night or lunch! Food was all fresh and very different from other local options. Also, despite the amount of space- they did have a single high chair and were extremely accommodating of our wiley toddler! This was a huge plus for us and was very appreciated. We’re definitely going to be back to enjoy it without the rugrats!

Is it possible to dream about eating mussels?? It is if you try them at Tailleur! I want to tell you about the flavorful Pork Shank and the tender Rack of Lamb, but I can't because I am dreaming about the broth, and tomatoes, and toasted bread and I did I mention the MUSSELS! Go try them, like now, but don't forget to make a reservation because other people know about this place too! You'll thank me later...

We had a large group for lunch. We were seated at 2 tables and one table was served much faster than the other. Having said that the food was amazing! The ambiance was cozy with so many things on the walls to see. Super fun visually. We all ordered different things and everyone loved their meals. We had fish, quiche, soup, salads, sandwiches and dessert.....oh the dessert...save room, worth every bite!

  • Deborah Jones

The service was exceptional. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable as well as efficient. The food was exquisite. The food options were unbelievable. The ambiance was quaint and very authentic. The food was truly amazing and did not disappoint. My favorites are the mussels and rack of lamb. The food was so savory and the presentation was superb. Totally enjoyed the experience. A must return.

We just dined at Tailleur for our anniversary and it was amazing. We knew the owners of The Russel opened up a new spot and this lived up to the hype. The ambience here is exceptional, as well as the service. You have to try the mussels and duck. It's on the back of the restaurant so you don't see it from the main entrance on Main, but it's there and it's just as lovely as the rest of the restaurant. My new favorite haunt. Antiquarian ambience marries equestrian with Paris circa 1890 in a candlelight haven of velvet and upscale displays that are not pretentious. The food is so indulgent and you don’t want it to end. Love the mussels. Love Heather, the founder. Upstairs is a European cafe that would delight Oscar Wilde.

Oh my goodness, Tailleur is fantastic! It is my new most favorite restaurant, though The Russell is equally delicious. Service was spectacular. Brittany was so helpful and the chef really know his food. Loved the outdoor patio and indoor ambiance. Highly recommend! Bakery is outstanding too.

Fantastic service, wonderful food, cool atmosphere, nice seasonal menu, great for a romantic date night. Parking is a little tricky with all the construction but plenty of spots just a few blocks away.
