We stayed at the Grand Chancellor Hotel and booked breakfast for 3 days ; booked a table next to the window to enjoy the view for all 3 days. 1st day - Someone had breakfast on our behalf. Window table was reserved for VIPs, so we were moved to another table. Food was ok, staffs was great. 2nd day - All went well. 3rd day - The omelette chef was not to the standard. He forgot to add many ingredients we requested to the omelette, he put very little ingredients on the omelette and it was undercooked. Drinks was to be ordered at the table. I waited for over 5 minutes, nobody turned up to take the order. A group of 4 people turned up to the restaurant, their drinks order was taken instantly. Another group of 2 people turned up, again their drinks order was taken instantly; while I'm still waiting, raising my hand to get someone's attention. Went to the bar twice and I was told someone would come to the table shortly. Unfortunately. We were done eating. Had to go back to the bar a 3rd time, that's when the supervisor Emma apologised and sent someone straight away. Once the drinks was brought to the table, it was messy (see picture attached). The supervisor brought another HC later. It was a bad experience on the day Later during the day, we were called by the F&B manager in regards to this issue. It was a nice gesture and we really appreciate the effort. Vegetarian option is very slim at the restaurant. Although it is mentioned free, the HC and lattes are not. Machined drinks are chargeable. Well done to Emma and Prassan for making things better for us. Really appreciate

Probably the most underrated reastaurant in Hobart. We have eaten here about 20 times and it is absolutely and consistently excellent. Despite what another reviewer stated there is no service charge for eftpos payment, just for credit cards. Cash is not preferred in a pandemic! - even if currently Tas is covid-free ( it cannot stay that way, once most of us are vaccinated). The menu only changes slowly, but that helps the consistency I am sure. You will need to order a side dish or two for $8 (currently, and so priced for the last 4 years). We usually get just one for the two of us: broccolini with almond granita which is always perfect. The menu is not particularly adventurous, but never boring for a first or second visit, and always delicious. The ambience is good for a hotel and a window table gets you views of Constitution dock with all the lovely boats, historic buildings and lights. Service is silver service and professional but reasonably leisurely, so do not be in a hurry. Perfect for those like us, who prefer smaller serves and great flavours. We often just have a main each and a shared side for dinnner so that is not expensive. You can now get an entree each, a mains each and a shared dessert, all as picked by the chef on the night, for $55 each. $110 AUD plus drinks seems a very good deal as you can be assured everything will be very good so we cannot wait to try that.

The food was fairly nice (though the flavours clashed quite a bit and the chefs seemed to be using some techniques for a wow factor where they didn't belong. The lemon flavoured maltodextrin powder 'sand' on the scallops looked impressive but melted into frothy goo and just tasted a bit weird). The wines were lovely and the atmosphere was very nice. Unfortunately, the staff were quite cold and I'm not sure why. They frequently bumped into me and, after a long wait on an entree when all the others at the table had finished their food, a plate was banged rudely on the table in front of one of our party. Food was frequently late and forgotten completely (though we ordered in advance because we had a baby with us and needed an early dinner). One male server was lovely but the two women who served us were particularly rude (perhaps workplace issues) and I was approached abruptly and unprofessionally at the end of the meal when one of the servers referred to my mother as "that woman". Maybe just a bad night for them, but the poor attitude of the servers made me feel most unwelcome. Not a feeling i like when we are paying for a service.

Waitstaff friendly and warm. The food! Wow...please follow below instructions if you order the duck, salmon or lamb dishes. - take yourselves some binoculars or a magnifying to spot your food. I ordered the salmon dish partly because I love squash that apparently came with it. Tiniest piece of Sqaush ever...in the history of Squash! Thought it was a piece of Garlic it was that minute! My partner ordered the Duck. WOW, - When it arrived (after 1 hr waiting - we were looking out into the night sky worried that the other half of the duck had flown off her plate!) - Secondly, take yourselves some hunting tools & night vision goggles and a or your favourite movie on a laptop to watch!!! We could have tracked and hunted our own food...gutted and slow-cooked it all ourselves! - Thirdly, - ummm...isn't it obvious?Take some Squash seeds to sow and grow in the soil outside while you wait for your partner who'll be out hunting the lamb! Guarantee yourself some proper yummy "giant servings!!"

We went there for the buffet breakfast and the food was fantastic. We went with our full family, and it was great as there was something there that catered to everyone (including fussy children). The service from waitstaff was excellent as they truly went above and beyond to help us. My only minor complaint is that the kitchen didn't keep up with the demand for the buffet as a few times we would be waiting several minutes for food to be refilled. In saying that, it was a busy day with Mother's Day.

The Christmas Day Dinner buffet was disappoint. We traveled from Sydney to Hobart during Christmas last year. For this Restaurant's good review online, we booked the Christmas Day Dinner buffet with $173.00 per adult / $73.00 per child. We all understand the special time and the cost is not all about food, HOWEVER there are only 6 hot dishes and small table for seafood without lobsters and salmon. Even $60 buffet can provide more dishes than that. We were very disappoint. Maybe the restaurant's food is better but if the buffet is not good for money and experience for sure. They are the top hotel at Hobart, I don't think buffet is a good idea in the town.

We had buffet breakfast at our final stay at the Grand Chancellor hotel. There's quite a huge selection of fresh fruit, cooked food , freshest bread, cured smoked bacon, smoked salmon tea, coffee , selection of freshly squeeze juice , muesli, on offer. You have a choice of full buffet breakfast or continental breakfast buffet only. We both had full buffet breakfast. Our seating table also had the best view of the marina. You also can request the chef to freshly prepared cooked eggs either scrambled, poached or fried. Overall, we had an amazing breakfast experience at The Tasman Restaurant. Staff are very attentive and helpful.

  • Jamhag0712

The food was pretty good the portions a little on the small side, especially for the price you're paying. It's odd that the mains don't come with some form of carb, meaning you have to pay even more for a side dish that should already be included in the meal. The most baffling thing though was when I ordered dessert, it was advertised as "Warm sticky ginger pudding date caramel and double cream". However when it came out it wasn't double cream, it was whipped cream that has been beaten so much that it had turned rock hard, basically to the point where it had turned to butter. It kind of ruined the dessert and made it a bit inedible.

On a chilly winters morning I decided to have breakfast at the Tasman Restaurant. A hot buffet breakfast is $35.00 with tea or coffee. A freshly made omlette was delicious as were the hot side dishes. A large selection of both hot and cold dishes are available including cereal, fresh fruit & yoghurt, a juicer to make your favourite morning drink, pastries and pikelets with berry coulis and vanilla cream. Lovely service from the team on duty. Definitely worth a visit for a leisurely breakfast overlooking the Hobart waterfront.

The servers were attentive, friendly and accomodating. The food; while being nothing overly fancy was local, seasonal, perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. There is a stunning range of Tasmanian wines on offer, as well as Australian and international wines. The range of beers offered is also mostly Tasmanian though there is a few Australian and international options. The restaurant itself is very stylish, comfortable and inviting. The meals are in the mid to pricy range but I definitely recommend giving Restaurant Tasman a chance if you're staying in Hobart.

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The service was top notch and food was the best we had during our stay in Hobart. It’s a “fine dining” experience while still being family friendly, with the added bonus of its premium location and harbour views. The cheese soufflé and the gnocchi were the best we’ve ever had, plus the wine menu was impressive. Thank you for a memorable experience. We will definitely eat here again next time we visit!

Awful, just Awful. We waited for over an hour for our food, only to have it brought out luke warm (luke warm chicken isn't good), a dismal half a carrot, no colour no flavour, no beans as on menu; it took the waitresses 2 hours to offer a top up of water. No water carafe on the table. Main meal was only worth $20 at most, dessert only worth $15. We paid $110 for two adults. Wine over priced for what they offered. Will never be back and will happily tell others to avoid this place. Worse in the city of Hbt.

  • Emma Clarke

Had the breakfast buffet. On the higher priced side but worth the money for the variety of options and amazing view over constitution dock! Do not have to be a guest of the hotel to eat here either. A regular visitor here. The staff are amazing and friendly and the omelette made for me this morning was the best I have had in a long time!

My wife and i spent our first night of our honeymoon out to dinner at Tasman Restaurant. We had an amazing dining experience and enjoyed the meals so much!! The food was just absolutely amazing! The staff was so friendly, professional and helpful, giving us some suggestions on places to go after dinner, that made our first night even better. 10/10 would recommend this place for dinner! Lovely place with lovely staff. We went there for dinner tonight.Got such a warm reception and we sat at our table. The staff are very quick and in no time we had had our meals.I had the chicken and my friends had fish. The chicken was very juicy and tasy, none of the usual dry chicken breasts you get at other places. For desert I had pana cota with Icecream. It was soo tasty.Overall a lovely experience.

  • Ross T

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. That modern Australian with a French twist is nothing new, many places do it, and it's ok, but not my scene. BUT.... This was surprisingly good, Oysters were fresh! Decent champagne too! I had the duck, and it was fantastic, probably one of the best I've ever had, and I order it often. Service was great, and was priced well. Highly recommended!

  • Ash T

You know how some things just annoy you... possibly more than they should? It's a very arcaic practise to charge a 1.5% surcharge on debit and visa cards. Very sly too, because you don't know it will apply until you have finished dining. Businesses don't even like cash, it's ridiculous. I hope I remember next time so that I may then choose another place to go. Meal was okay.

  • Lynne Lee

Lovely restaurant with friendly staff and a great view. I had the mussel & seafood chowder which was a big bowl and filling. Then the duck for main, the sauce was too sweet. My friends had the seafood plate special, lamb and barley risotto

Amazingly tasty breakfast buffet with lots if options and an amazing view too. They have an egg station and I cannot fault the chef....he knows how to cook my omlette to perfection and cheesy goodness. They also serve a delicious linseed bread and have a juice station too. Well worth the visit and the staff are always friendly and helpful also.

  • Michael McRoberts

Popped in last night for the duck and a glass of Pinot. Duck was perfectly cooked! Overall the food was lovely, but note it is priced to location, and there was no sides with the main (ie I had duck with a side of duck). Pinot was ok, not great, but service was very attentive. Would be a great location for a medium family event or gathering.

We haven’t been here for a long time , we were very happy with all our meals , delicious steaks, service was good , friendly staff , Hadn't been to the Restaurant Tasman and thought I'd try their Chef's menu (4 dishes for $45) which changes every week. It was well worth the money. This week's menu was smoked fish chowder,

Consistently great service and food. We have been here four or five times before going to the theatre and each time the food has been great, and delivered in the short time we have. Service has always been attentive without being over the top. The only thing I don't like is they charge a fee on credit card payments

Would not recommend this restaurant, food is overpriced for something not fresh and they don’t even celebrate special occasions when they noticed so. Manager called to apologise but did nothing about it to rectify their problems. It’s a shame that it’s attached to a great hotel.

  • Aaron Roydhouse

Slow kitchen, with no free bread, and the a la carte bread is 6 tiny baguette rounds. Been here an hour and haven't got past appertisers. Food is nice so far, service professional, just, so, slow... Service staff need more scope/initiative to do things to cover for the kitchen.

The chicken, and the lamb were dry. The service was average, and they charge the same as a waterfront restaurant. After the meal the server enquired how the food was, I said it was a little dry, he said he would follow up with his supervisor, nothing came of it.
