The WORST service I have EVER received from a representative of any country. As I asked one last question for clarity on an issue of Immigration, which the woman made clear this office does not attend to, nor does it attend to passports, Visas, or anything else for that matter. She had named a website in the beginning of our conversation which had already proven to be a dead end for solving my issue. I asked for any and all possible information she may have and all roads lead to ones i've already been down. So as she was making it abundantly and rudely clear that she was not in the business of helping people, as i asked her for a more specific page of that website she had mentioned. She literally would not hear me out and HUNG UP ON ME. All I was asking for was for her to complete her original statement with the website address, just in case there was a new or different "/page i need/" part to the vfsglobal.co.uk site i have been struggling with for days. She HUNG UP on me. Appalling. She was American, by the way. Not British, and no manners whatsoever.
What a useless organization. The lady who answered the phone was unhelpful and rude. I am an american looking to relocate to the UK and she told me that I needed to go online and fill out a visa. When I told her I had a special circumstance that didnt fall under any of the visa options she said oh well, cant help you. I said im confused why you guys have a phone number and address of how to reach the British consulate if you guys dont actually help anyone. She told me visas are handled in the U.S. and I said ohh right well Los Angeles is in the U.S. she said NO ONE in Los Angeles deals with U.K. visas. This is all interesting information considering lots of people move from LA to the UK. Don't call this number provided you will only be met with headache and condescending people.
Horrific .... took over 30 mins to find an option for an operator and that option was emergencies only ...... no one answered ..... all seemed to have gone home over 30 minutes before closing or were ignoring phones. . Menu makes no sense doesn't let you to operator if you are lost, few options to go back in the menu and auto service hung up on me over 6 times. . Disgusted this is representing the UK in terms of organisation. Feel very vulnerable as i now know I would be unable to contact my embassy in an emergency and have abandoned my plan to stay longer in LA. . Used embassy in 3 other countries ... this is the worst ! unrepresented, un supported and unable to attain any aid. Think its better closed so i hadn't wasted my hour calling them

Hinduja seems to have bribed the UK government and made a pact. Now everything is money. Why do I need to spend 4 pounds to ask a basic question, and that too over web-chat. What are they taking the money for? This is the worst visa application experience that I had to go thru for my loved ones. Never again will I let them fly British airways. A visa application that asks which color underwear am I applying a visa in is plain stupid. Keep it simple. But then you are NOT USA. You are plain British. Keep your pride and avoid this application process.
In brief - the junior staffers are useless and incompetent/borderline psychotic. Whereas the senior staffers are great... Made 2 attempts to call the consulate regarding a legal issue, 1st call was taken by some woman with a very strong Indian accent. She was neither helpful or competent, the 2nd call was taken by some guy who also insisted they cannot assist in the matter and that I should seek help elsewhere. So, then I went in to the consulate with the same issue and was seen to by a more senior member who assisted and dealt with the same issue within 10 minutes.
Its impossible to reach a human being when you call this Consulate or even leave a message. I am being told by UK passport Government service that I can renew my UK passport at no charge for one year by making an appointment with my nearest Consulate office. Its impossible to do. The recorded message keeps referring all callers to contact the UK, although it was announced in the UK on 7 June 2014 that individuals in the USA should contact their nearest consulate office to renew their UK passport to help offset the backlog in the UK..
I had a specific (complicated) question about immigration to the UK, and was sent round in circles by the phone system. After getting through to a lady on the "emergency" number, she just kept referring me back to the website. Been there, done that, nowhere could they answer my question. Told her this, but she was very unhelpful, and could offer nothing more than the website. Could do with getting a smile on her face when answering calls, she sounded like she was annoyed at me for asking the question. Very poor service.
Having my luggage, bags, phone, 3000 dollars worth of auto injector pen medicine and passports stolen, I was relieved to get to my consulate. Once it eventually opened. Only to be treating as if I was In Beverly Hills shopping for passports! Whilst going round in circles explaining what had happened to me and not being listened to or helped. My bank accounts where being wiped. Absolutely useless sociopathic service, they reminded me why I went to the US in the first place. To get away from such incompetent people.
Rude, unhelpful. basically mirrors many people's experience here. I have been trying since Feb 2019 to get a report from the local PD to the Police in the UK , which I am told has to come through the UK Embassy / consulate. They claimed that isn't the case, had never heard of such a thing but were very very sure that it could never be a thing. Months later, even working with the local honorary consulate in my town that sent the the file, nothing's happened.
I have to say the service was more than excellent at a time of crisis. Lost passport on a Friday night. Dud an online form fir emergency travel document. It was processed over the weekend . I called the Consulate at 9am to discuss collection as had to be at LAX by noon for flight home. Phone answered immediately; staff so helpful. Emergency Passport In my hand by 10.30am delivered to our car by lovely Alison. Cannot thank them enough. Brilliant service
No live operator. How many different options you try the automated voice forces you to go and look at the website. Obviously when people do not get clear answers on the website, they would like to talk to a live agent. Why a customer service number without a customer rep.... wasted a good 1/2 hour trying to talk to a live person. Useless and pathetic service. Wake up UK embassy, lots of disgruntled callers....
Disappointing Visit to The UK Consulate. Employee did not acknowledge my presence as she played with her infant for about 15 mins!! After we managed to get her attention, she was not helpful in answering my questions or guiding me through the student visa process. My visit was a waste of time. I am now skeptical about studying abroad in the UK if this is a taste of British hospitality!
This British agency represents the worst in customer service anybody can receive, without a doubt. I'm not surprised as these pathetic, pompous, socialists, see Americans as beneath them! Try and avoid the UK as a tourist destination and spend your dollars elsewhere! There are many countries in Europe where American tourists are welcome.
My American girlfriend went to the Consulate this morning to be advised that her and I should move to another country so we don’t have to deal with immigration issues... thanks so much for telling me to leave my own country. Horrendous service! Whoever placed these people in such an important position of power should be ashamed.
I needed information about the UK defacto visa. I’m an American citizen. I spent $30 on an Uber and 40 minutes getting there just for the rude African-American woman at the front desk to tell me you need to be a British citizen to go into the consulate. Nowhere on the website was this explained. Major waste of time and money.
Very nice and modern for a consulate. In a high end building complex with a good restaurant. If you're here for a meeting, there's also a nice park to hang out in as well. This is a nice section of LA with lots of shops and restaurants close by. Not a bad place to be if you have to visit the consulate.
Today I had to get a replacement passport. After filling out the online process and paying my fee it was an amazing experience. Follow the process, send the documents via email and it will be amazing. Thank you to all the staff here for making it so smooth and pleasant. You guys are awesome.
Wanted to speak with someone at the LA consulate if the had a condolences book for folks to sign and if I could get my name added over the phone (it’s a 1.5 hr drive to the consulate) but couldn’t get a warm body to speak to! Tried nearly every option on their phone to no avail!
I had to apply for an emergency passport through the website and was able to pick up the passport from the LA consulate office in Century City the very next day. The service they provided was fast and efficient and I’m very grateful they were able to help so quickly.
