This place is nice, atmosphere is great - small room upstairs with a rustic speak easy vibe and comfy couches, but the bartender and drinks need some work. Got 4 drinks total. Whiskey with coke, could barley tell there was whiskey in there. Went for the 2nd round and the bartender rudely told me he was busy with some type of presentation. Acted super annoyed for me ordering another 2 very simple drinks. Had to wait 15-20 mins after that to close out. Our 2nd round of drinks tasted like water. I don’t mind waiting, as this guy was clearly the only bartender. I get it. I just don’t know why you’re annoyed with bar patrons ordering drinks in a bar. 35 bucks and barley buzzed. I’d come back if I wasn’t treated like I was annoying the bartender and the drinks had more alcohol in them. (I can barley take a shot, so for me to say it’s a weak drink..) Still tipped because that’s my nature. But this bar, would not recommend unless the service and drinks improved.

Looks like a nice place but the bartenders are far from it. We came in tonight and waited in line patiently since there was only one bartender working. I mean, we WAITED! Then 2 other bartenders show up, bar clears out. New customers come and sit at the bar while the line of people are getting served. Finally, it’s our turn in line and the entire crew blatantly ignored us and served the 3 groups who came in. We still waited to see and a new group of people come in and served before us. I then say something to the bartender that it’s rude that they’ve skipped us multiple times and we’ve been waiting 30 minutes and he responds with “have a goodnight”. I mean, we came here to get a nice drink and instead we left upset. Keep the bar, lose the staff.

Took my wife here on a Saturday at 6:00pm. One bartender doing all the work. Great cocktail, but he was rude when I went up for a second drink. Asked me “if I needed something”. I told him I’d rather just take my check than be a bother. Would be a MUCH better place if they had at least one bar back. I’ve been to far superior speak easy type spots and have never been treated poorly. I don’t think it was his fault because he was doing it all, making drinks, serving drinks, cashing out etc. But to be rude to someone for standing near the bar waiting to order another drink is totally unacceptable. I would never recommend going here unless you have 2 hours to spend and and only want one drink and don’t mind being treated like a pest.

This is honestly in my opinion the best place for a Guinness on draft in Charlotte. No other place I've been to can beat it. Out of all the speakeasies in the city this one is definitely my favorite. The small bar and lounge are not for everyone but it excels at recreating that feeling that you can only get from those famous older bars you find in a place like New York or London... only, the best part is it's right in our own city. The staff and bartenders are some of the nicest people I've met and really make you feel like you belong. Cocktails are always on point and the prices always keep me coming back. Definitely check it out sometime and their downstairs bar if you want a good drink near Latta arcade.

Wish I could give it more stars. I stumbled on this place when I found a roof top bar to be closed. Steven was holding down the fort. When I walked in, he wasn't shy about telling me he made the best old fashioned in charlotte. This is a big claim, right? Well, truly, it was the best old fashioned I've ever had. He's also a great conversationalist (when he's not slammed) and truly cares about his craft. I think it's increasingly rare in today's climate to find people who take this much pride in what they do. Fantastic bar find with a definite "speakeasy" feel! They have an incredible whiskey selection and a very knowledgeable bartender who you can tell loves his craft cocktails and whiskey/scotch. Very good experience here from the customer service to sitting at the bar chatting with the regulars to everything we tried. The Campfire Old Fashioned was amazing and just watching it being was like a free-show with an incredible drink! I never thought I'd enjoy a cocktail involving a smoked marshmallow so much! Will definitely be back!

Cozy cocktail bar with hand crafted, custom cocktails. No waitresses- you need to push though to the bar to get a drink. Wide selection of alcohol but a fairly limited selection on their custom drink menu. Most of the drinks were whiskey based. Would have liked a wider selection of custom drinks with other types of alcohol. Drinks were $10 to $15 each. The drinks did have were very good.

I wish I could've come back. My crew and I visited the Cotton Room on our first night in Charlotte. The bartender was a true mixologist who took pride in his craft. The atmosphere was really nice and low key. The drinks were amazing. The prices were average for the area, but the quality was superb! Visit if you get a chance and want great cocktails in a low key environment.

I would give no stars if I could. This is my first and last time coming here. When I walked in with my husband, the bartender was giving a presentation. We sat down on a couch and waited. But we were never greeted or even acknowledged at all. Another couple walked in and also waited but were also never greeted and left after a few minutes. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

Second floor rustic scene in the "french quarter" alleyway with exposed brick walls and old rafters and ceiling slats. Cozy spot has about 8-10 bar seats, a few couches and some high tables for gathering. Great for a before- or after-drink cocktail. The layout probably doesn't accommodate a large crowd very well and is suited for couples or small groups.

I came here for my fraternity’s formal and I found myself coming back to the Cotton Room every night. The atmosphere, bartenders, and drinks were fantastic. The dimly lit whiskey bar was both accommodating and classy. The bartenders knew both the classic and neo-classical drinks. If you are coming to Charlotte the Cotton Room is a must visit.

We had lovely first visit - luckily got some seats at the bar after a bit. Cocktails were great! Also wandered into three people we knew while there.

I asked for a typical All-American, Old Fashion on a Saturday night. I was denied one. I asked my bartender why when they have such a great selection. He told me he'd much rather make money on Bud Lite than snotty people like me that want a mixer drink. If you want proper service and a decent cocktail, don't go here!!!!

Not very good cocktails. They were ok, but overall pretty bad considering the price (about $10 per drink). I ordered a standard, classic cocktail and it was completely wrong, missing key ingredients, other ingredients added in that shouldn't have been in it. Would recommend you go elsewhere.

Perfect cocktail bar. Good size, nice dim lighting, comfortable bar and couch seating. Great and expansive menu with solid drink combos with all your favorite spirits. Their scotch cocktail is one of the best I’ve had. Great spot to stop by or kill some time late night with friends.

Perfect little bar. Bar tenders were amazing - great conversation and drink recommendations. William made some of the best cocktails I've had in a while with none of the hipster pretentiousness of your average cocktail bar. Would absolutely recommend this place!

My wife loved this place, it wasn't my cup of tea. It's too small but I think that's what my wife liked about it, it's kind of a hole-in-the-wall. It wasn't too busy, so you can get a drink pretty quick.
