I'm changing this review. Yes the food and drinks are nice, if a bit expensive, but they do not make up for the rudeness of one particular bouncer in the nightclub. I no longer go to the Elephant, and if friends are going out then I make sure we stay away. I was sitting down, resting (not drunk) while my friends were dancing and the bouncer asked me to stand up. I assumed he wanted to check if I was drunk so I said, "no worries" and stood up. He went back to the corner and so I sat down again. Next thing I know he comes back over and tells me to get out. Surprised, I walked down the back stairs, leaving my friends dancing and went outside. Waiting for my friends I got chatting to the other bouncer, who was friendly outside. This bouncer had absoltely no problem talking with me politely, and since it was late at night and nobody else was around, he had nothing else to do anyway. Then the first bouncer comes back down and says, "go away or I'll call the police". I explained I was waiting for my friends and he said, "they can't be very good friends if they left you out here alone". So I went and waited about 10 meters away where I wouldn't be arrested. Maybe reading this you will think I was drunk or rude. But that is not the case. I did not argue when being kicked out, and I was not rude or drunk.

Nice quaint little pub off the main street so its nice and quiet during the day for some knockoff drinks or lunch, its only a small pub but there is plenty of seating in the bar area with booths if you are after a bit more privacy or there is a nice outdoor seating area out the front as well. There is plenty to choose from with beers on tap including local, boutique and overseas beers, i think i counted about 15 beers on tap. We ordered some lunch and the lady who served me did seem a bit inexperienced but i think she was a European foreigner so maybe she was a backpacker as she made a couple of errors on the order and didn't really seem to know the menu but we got it soughted in the end . Food was on par for what you would expect for pub grub and the prices were quite reasonable too. Only disappointment was a salad we ordered came out as about 80% greens and it had some potato which was a bit undercooked, so for me that was abit overpriced for $15

The last thing this pub is is a British pub. Since the renovations it has been turned into a big room with tables and chairs. No atmosphere and no charm. They are now changing a service fee everytime you pay for a drink with your credit card. Disgraceful. The chicken burger I had was probably the worst excuse for a burger I have had in a long long time. The staff member who took my plate away didn't even ask if I had enjoyed my meal.well to be fair there was no point in asking since most of it was still on my plate. My advice stay away from the chicken burger people. The tastiest thing in my plate was the lettuce and tomato garnish.

Such an amazing Venue.! We had a booking for 40 that constantly fluctuated right up until 3hours before the booking. Tanika (Functions and Event Coordinator) was absolutely incredible and so accommodating. The food was excellent and everyone received their food within 15minutes.! Not one error was made and I could not be any more greatful for their help. We were seated upstairs with our own place cards and our own bar which was staffed by an amazing staff member and the room was beautiful. Thank you so much for an amazing dinner and for making everything less stressful. I can not recommend The Elephant British Pub more for any form of function!!

Went to see a friend's band. Nice place, good atmosphere, more classy than some other venues and less broken glass and vomit/beer/wine on the floor than other places I've been. Good choice of music too, not just the repetitive techno/dubstep that you might put up with somewhere else. I've docked one star because the bathrooms (at least the male bathrooms) were an unpleasant place to be, not least the fact that most public facilities are more modern than this. Worst was that the cubicle door had a gap as wide as my thumb and you could see the person in there as you walked in the door.

Called in to this neat little spot this weekend to stash my backpack whilst I took a look about Adelaide CBD which unfortunately at the time just so happened to have an Anti Mandatory Vax protest going on so didn't get very far. Nevertheless, this was a great little find! My only regret was having to dash to the airport after only one beer could've easily spent a good chunk of the afternoon there. Fellas were very friendly and I'd imagine with a little live music this would be a well packed spot. Will definitely call in whenever I am in the neighbourhood again

Had an old English pub feel to the place. Quite cozy. Does seem out of place in its current location being in the heart of the clubbing scene. We came here on a very busy night and still got really good food service. The quality of the food was standard Adelaide pub food compared to other states it would be considered above average. IE the schnitzels weren't microwaved. It also has a range of British ales on tap which was great to sample. The prices were for the beers were standard and not microbrewery prices IE in range with common beers

A cosy, traditional English style pub. In a good location, with friendly service and reasonable prices. The eating area downstairs is cosy and has lovely old style booths and a fire place for those colder months. The menu has a large but good selection, I ordered the chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy, which was nice. Upstairs converts into a nightclub at nighttime, it's a good atmosphere with live bands and cheap drinks; music genre is for everyone. I love the Elephant, a good place for lunch or dinner.

  • Zuri Molina

I loved that! it was full when I visited. Well, I think because the happy hour, must’ve been for that. I liked the atmosphere, the place is very spacious, tables are wide and are spaced between them, although it didn't seem like a British pub to me. However, I had a great time. Also, the flavor of the dishes was delicious, I loved the mash peas. As for drinks they have a wide variety of wines, beers and more. ✅If you’re around, must to visit The Elephant British Pub.

  • tracey carter

Probably about the worst meal I have been dished up, ever. To be fair they had been closed for a few days so not all menu items were available and they advised this. No beef and ale pie so second choice was chicken and leek. It was clearly available because it was in the freezer, an incredibly dry, tasteless pie with some half cooked chips, inedible..... my partners fish and chips were ok though, staff were great but wouldn’t go back unfortunately.

  • Basman59

How to destroy what was a quaint warm welcoming British pub and turn it into a sterile cold and soulless vacuous space. They cannot call this a British Pub even the worst ones back home have more going than this. Adding to this insult they took off the wings. Clueless about the clientele and devoid of any idea on what was a very good British Pub. Sad!

I enjoyed my meal at the Elephant. I got the fish and chips (1 piece) along with a cider on tap. Delish and reasonably priced. It wasn't especially busy, we were there for a late lunch so the food came out quickly and the staff were friendly and attentive. I would come back.

Nice place to have a drink during the evening. Good prices, on average with the other pubs. The atmosphere is very chilled and it reminds a place settled in Britain for reality, with carpets, fireplaces, dark wood furnitures and a big old-style bar counter. The staff is quite nice, even if they have been a little bit rude when it was coming the closing time and they asked us to leave on advance.

  • Ekaterina Grigoryeva

Upon arrival me and my friends faced a staff member or a manager it could be (bold guy) behind the bar very unfriendly and fake, he was acting more like a strict security jегк than a friendly hospitality worker (I was very uncomfortable there) Food of maximum of 3 stars with a stretch, can give it even 2,5. Drinks are good however, and the interior is absolutely amazing - 5 starts to only this.

Managed to capture some late night premier league. Service was good from the bar staff. Not much I could do about DJ music when trying to watch the Premier League but not many seemed that in to the music with most people actually outside. Was in central location near other bars

Went there for some drinks with a group of friends on a Saturday evening. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating! Marcus was a great bartender and host throughout the evening! The duty manager (the name slips my mind) also opened up the upstairs area before scheduled time so we could be comfortable! Thanks for a lovely evening team! See you soon!

We have been here about 5 times now and I have got the fish and chips every time! The food is incredible; my partner loves the steak sandwich! The staff are so lovely and helpful. Patrick and Marcus were great! Thank you :)

The old Elephant had some character, although the pies could have been served with a mash and mushy pea option if you wanted to be authentic . The fire was on and the crowd was a great mix of old and young. The old Elephant was a very welcoming place. This place looks more generic like all the open plan sheds, appealing only to yuppies perhaps.

Fantastic place for a get together with workmates/friends. Great staff plus happy hour and a DJ. Also, excellent food to share from a cheese platter with various Cheeses and dips to Pumpkin Arancini balls. Delish. Wine selection had one of my favourites, Bird in the Hand Rose, so I was set.

We watched the Matilda's V England here and had dinner beforehand. The evening was enjoyable but we wondered why the recent refurbishment removed a lot of the charm and cosiness of an old English Pub. It no longer feels or looks like an English pub, which was a huge part of the attraction.

What a great little find with awesome selection of beers, ciders and other drinks. We booked a table for 4 and enjoyed a meal inside the beautiful pub. Food was good and service was excellent with friendly and attentive staff. A little hard to find as Cinema Place doesn't exist in Google Maps (it's right next to the Cinema's).

  • JK rulez

My boy loved the sausage n mash. I had the chicken burger. I think they used the salt n pepper squid seasoning as a batter and i just couldn't eat it. Sorry guys. Beer and atmosphere always awesome though. Don't think I've ever been in there and not made friends with random people. A true pub.

  • Joy Fredella

Had a booking and they couldn't seat us when we arrived, so they offered us a round of free drinks while we waited 10 minutes at the bar, which was nice. They were willing to make substitutions for a vegetarian in our group without drama. Food was fresh, large servings. A good honest pub.

  • Jonno Hedger

Brilliant place for hanging out downstairs and having food, upstairs on Friday and Saturday nights is awesome for dancing and a great fun atmosphere often with good live music. Great happy hour prices and happy hour goes for a while on popular nights unlike other places which is great.

RIP The Elly. Loved by many over the years. Once full of character and charm, always had a warm, welcoming vibe. The recent renovations are truly awful. Another cookie cutter bar with zero charm and atmosphere. Very sad to see. Shouldn't claim to be a British Pub anymore.

  • Cameron Moyle

The new Elephant has lost its charm. Not only has it lost its charm, the food quality and dining experience is terrible now too. I ordered a rare steak, waiting 40minutes and was served medium well. The wait staff were unfriendly too. I would not recommend a visit here.

New renovations are terrible. The place has lost all of it character and charm. Service was poor, food was good but nothing special. Needs a proper English style menu to suit the venue. Right now you could be walking into any average pub. Won’t be rushing back

  • Will Elliott

Recently moved to having our occasional work drinks here. Fantastic pub, decently priced and the food is good. Only downside is the tables for the outside seating aren't moveable, so if you have a group larger than 6 and want to be outside, it can be awkward.

  • M Ebrit

This is a great venue for whatever occasion, the Elephant offers a traditional pub atmosphere down stairs and has a stage with a live band and dance floor up stairs. There are a range of great proper British ales on tap as well as a number of Australian ipas.

  • Sheila Gardner

The other members of my party were surprised by the noise, but I explained that was normal in an English pub. The food was very good and everyone enjoyed their meal. I am sure it might be quieter during the week, we did choose a Saturday evening after all.

  • Josh Holloway

Best pub in Adelaide, shows all the sports you could ever want to see, staff are super friendly and genuinely does have an English feel to the place. Drinks usually are a little on the pricey side but during happy hour it all becomes ridiculously cheap!

Staff are friendly, the decor is typical English and still is as I remembered 20 years ago when it was called "The Elephant and the Wheelbarrow". Had the fish (Haik) for lunch and it was fantastic with Tuesday having a meal offer of 25% off.

  • Kristin McKenzie

My partner and I ordered a meal and when we mentioned we were sharing the meal, we had to pay an extra $5 for the exact same meal we would have received if we weren't sharing. I've never had this before and think it's absolutely ridiculous

We got there 4 minutes before the kitchen closed but they took our order and food came out relatively quickly. I may have been very hungry, but this really was a delicious burgher. No real complaints about service, but I Ididn't need much.

Ordered 1 drink then told have to have water! Yeah nah, no thanks! Wasn't a big night out, just a few friendly beers...?! Either very over cautious barstaff or they're too young to know the difference between sober and intoxicated.

Great food and atmosphere. Best bangers and mash in the city. The renovations are perfect. What was grubby and old now feels modern and clean. Perfectly captures the new British pub feel. Love it. Been in twice already this week.

A British themed bar of the kind you will never find in Britain. $5 imperial pints during happy-hours on Friday it is hard to go past, but gets very crowded. Good pub food though.
