Very pleasantly surprised tonight! Went to the Free Spirit to see our friend but she was not working. Almost left but decided to stay and I have to say, we did not regret it! Perfectly made martinis. $.50 wings on Thursday nights, ordered 6 just to try and they were fantastic! (Singapore flavored with a side of xxx hot sauce) the menu is quite large and I had no idea what i wanted so I asked the bartender what, hands down, was his favorite thing on the menu, he said the meaty mac and cheese, so I ordered it and it was damn good! think smoked pulled pork in mac and cheese. The breaded tenderloin was as good just about any place in town. (did I mention that their food is stoooopid cheap?) And, the place was clean and even the karaoke was not all that bad, kind of entertaining actually. (it is such a large place, the karaoke is not blaring in your ears and one can still have a conversation) All in all it was surprisingly great! I would tell anyone to check it out!

I absolutely love this place! Large wrap around porch with tons of seating, last night there was a guy singing with his guitar. He was pretty good, it wasn’t too loud either, you could still have a conversation without yelling. Great atmosphere, very relaxed and comfortable. The inside is awesome! They have dart boards, a few arcade games, pool tables, and CORN HOLE!! Decent beer selection, nice drink pours, bartenders were friendly and attentive. I never really had to wait for a drink, and if I did it was because they were pouring another drink. The food was phenomenal, hands down best lemon pepper wings ever, the pulled pork was pretty good too!!

My boyfriend & I came to this bar after twins peaks and we both seat at the bar we waited for about for about 5 mins talking since the bartender were getting in tabs etc. After waiting for couple of mins for them to attend us just talking another couple came next to us and the server came to them SO QUICK!. the bartender lady came up to them in unless than a second! (NOT EVEN lying!) asking them how she could service them! We looked at each other and just honestly left. don’t recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!!!!! Horrible customer service. I would've understand if they were busy but they weren’t. It was a Sunday mid day.

OK. This review isn't for gourmet food. This is a pub that isn't necessarily the most refined, but they have darn good bar food. The wings are up there in size and taste. These wings can compete with any wings in Indy. I think they can add more spice to some of there sauces The nachos are finished in an oven like nachos are supposed to be. The beer battered fries are crisp on the outside and creamy in the middle. The service is very good. Oh. Did I mention that they have plenty of TVs and an outdoor patio.

I have to update my review! We have been here so many times lately and are always impressed. It's an awesome place to hang out with a group of friends. They also did a great job during Covid keeping things clean, people separated, and wearing masks. I think the wings here (spicy garlic!) might just be my favorite. We always get karaoke fries because they are awesome, and the tenderloin is one of the best I've ever had. Always great service and good people here and great beer! We will keep coming back!

one of the best places in northern Indianapolis Their food and drink specials are always great, the food itself is the best bar food you can get, especially at late night, and the drinks are delicious (especially when I don't know what I would like and a bartender concocts something for me!) the bartenders are the absolute best here, they get to know your name and are super efficient at handling the busy bartop, they'll make you laugh all night karaoke night in Thursdays! Doug is the best!

Great Spot! if you want a quick bite while shopping nearby, or a few drinks with friends this place will meet & exceed your expectations! Great menu with options for everyone, daily drink specials, bands and performers on the weekends and trivia during the week. They used to do karaoke (miss that) during the week. They have pool tables, darts, video games and lots of indoor & outdoor seating. Just overall a great meet up spot for everyone. The staff is one of the best around :)

This is by far the worst bar I even been to. Someone brought me a shot that didn’t pay for it. The next time I came I was told I had a tab. I paid the full tab for someone else. The next time I came back I was told I’m permanently banned. I asked the bartender why when I paid my “tab” and was told “im just is” at this point I feel it’s racism. I ask the manager to call me to discussed this but was told he wouldn’t. Over a “tab” that wasn’t mine smh

Watched the Notre Dame game over pizza, wings and drinks. Lots of TVs and our wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Just make sure you have a designated driver, the shots are served in beer mugs! The Hubs birthday meant he was trying a few of them, including the Cousin Eddy (must of approved, he ordered one twice!) No smoking was nice, and there was a fire pit and chairs outside. There are dart boards and pool tables - it's an Indy bar, those are mandatory!

So much more than a bar! Full bar, 12 taps - featuring more than your basic domestics, and a menu to be proud of. Boyfriend ordered the burger and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare, juicy with great flavor and texture. The flavor of the beef really was remarkable. I had the pesto mac and cheese and it was delightful! We came in search of the beer Elvis Juice by Brewdog (which alone is worth the trip) and were surprised with how much we enjoyed the venue.

Service wasn't good at all.....we went in at 5:39 pm ......there were probably around 12-14 people there including me and my wife....took close to 10min for us to be greeted as we sat at the bar. The food we ordered sat at the pick up window for over 10min .....I almost went to get it myself because the bar tender disappeared for some reason........he was gone enough for a couple to walk out because.....guess....no Service.....management is piss poor...

This is a great place to come to have a few cold beers with friends, or have a few cold beers alone after work. But what really gets me to come back here most is the food. After living in Castleton for several months I've come to the conclusion that The Free Spirit has the best burgers around. I'm currently in the middle of a Sober October challenge yet I've stopped into this location twice to get their Jack Honey BBQ burgers. Damn delicious.

Came to watch the Thursday night football game, they had it on, but they don't play the audio on the speakers. Cool vibes, decent food, bartenders were cool, prices were adequate. Wasn't overly impressed by anything, however, it's nice to see they stay open until a decent time, while others places are closing early due to no staff. I will probably come back and try the pizza next time, had the cuban sandwich, it was okay.. 7/10

Last night we went to see the band and never had a waitress come over to our table. Went to the bar to order drinks and said we haven't gotten a waitress. They said sorry but still never got got any service. Had to order food from bar and go get our own plates and silverware! When I would go to bar to get something I would get eye rolls and attitude or they would help others who showed up after me.

The Bartenders and Servers are friendly, professional, fast, and really work well together. The bar food is great - but they even have a New York Strip Steak Special on Fridays for about 15 bucks - and it's as good as a steakhouse! Sometimes they have live bands, otherwise there's a TouchTunes Jukebox. They have darts and pool tables too. Oh - and there's plenty of outdoor patio seating too.

Hands down the best bar on the north side of Indy. Don’t sleep on the food! Super fire specials

I don’t know how they pour their amaretto sours but ing it was good! I also got the nacho (no meat) and they were super tasty. They had live music that night. It was a little loud but the band was good. The thing I really appreciated as that the bartenders seemed to be enjoying their evening. They didn’t look stressed out or bothered to serve. Overall, it was a good experience.

Terrible service. Place was dead, but after we were served drinks at a table our server went off duty. No notification of this. Went to bar for more drinks and 2 bartenders with half of a full bar took 5 minutes to acknowledge us. Never received or was asked about a menu. Never were given beverage napkins or coasters. Our table was full of water from the drinks sweating.

Food is mediocre. Not a good selection of beer. Not very good at making simple drinks. Very open bar, so if you do sit on the side of the counter near the bathrooms you will really smell the urine and feces. Our bartender spent more time with one guy while a dozen people sat around. Waited 10 minutes just to get another drink and even longer to get the tab.

Great service... nice atmosphere 4 out of 5 ... Stars.. loved the music and waiter + waitress.. would definitely go round 2

I've been here several times recently with friends and I think I might make it my regular place moving forward. The staff is consistently friendly and the menu has a nice variety. I like their wings better than the ale emporium down the street (especially the Singapore and volcano sauces) The kitchen is open later than most other places around too.

I was there during the middle of the week it wasn't that busy. All the staff encountered were great. The mac and cheese was delicious and so was the pulled pork sandwich. I was there for approximately 10 minutes waiting for my food.

Wow! The bartender Michelle gives amazing service with a smile! Food is pretty good too, and they have a nice deck. The dart boards are in an absolutely terrible spot though. The servers will be tripping on you coming out of the kitchen when you're trying to do some lunges before your next turn. Great place overall!

This place was really cool. They had a live band playing when I was there and the preforming act was not bad. The service was second to none. They were really busy and made sure to greet me and my party. We had so much fun here. The food here is so delicious. Biscuits and gravy they serve biscuits and gravy!!!!

The Free Spirit has to be my favorite bar for any time I wanna go out. It’s my and my wife’s ‘bar’. Our after party to our wedding was there plus birthdays and any time we want to celebrate. Plus Bethany is our favorite bartender/served and always goes out of her way to take card of us. LOVE THIS BAR!

The food here is awesome for pub food, the specials are great and the mixed drinks are awesome. HOWEVER, DO NOT KEEP A TAB OPEN WITH YOUR CREDIT/BANK CARD. Multiple times I have been grossly over charged. They always refund my money, but this has happened on multiple occasions and to multiple people.

If you've never had their karaoke fries or Mexican Street Corn Chowder you are missing out! Great place for lunch, day drinking, night drinking, dinner, late night snacks, and hanging out with friends. Not to mention they have a fantastic breakfast menu! Great food, great service, a great time!

Great food, but the service could use some work. They may have had someone call in or something the evening we were all there, but had to ask for drinks multiple times in order to actually get them. Hard to even get a server at our table. They seemed to just disappear for long periods of time.

I absolutely love this place! It's my favorite little dive. From the bartenders to the food, everything is amazing! Whether you want to hear live music, play pool or darts, they have all of that through the week as well as great drinks specials. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

We arrived pretty late . Service was swift, drinks were stiff and staff was very friendly. Decent sized dance floor and nice outdoor area. Difficult to gauge the clientele On a slow night But appeared to be Age range of thirties and forties Working crowd. Everybody seemed happy and friendly.

The band , 10th of never, played tonight! If you haven’t heard them, they are worth going to see! The food is damn good! I had the tenderloin and Michael had pizza and wings! We weren’t disappointed!! Definitely a good choice for a Saturday night! Our waitress kept us from being thirsty!!

Had my 50th birthday there & it was a blast! Sherry & Nally went above & beyond accommodating seating for us. They are always great to work with at all of their locations. Will definitely return time & time again. Recommend reaching out to them for all of your party needs.

I love this place, but I am disappointed in their limited menu. I came here specifically for their AMAZING chicken nachos. They aren't on their limited menu, but all the toppings are! Came all the way from downtown for them. Very disappointed. Also... no drink specials?!

Service was at best average, Mac & Cheese was dry- breadcrumbs only added to this. Server didn't know rotating taps or explain specials. Had to ask for s water to compliment my meal, maybe I will edit this after trying other menu options- but disappointed at this point.

Food was best part of the visit. Service was slow but not the waitresses fault. During football bowl season you should expect more people than normal. There was one person tending bar and tables and two cooks. There were about 25-30 people in the place for one server.

Great little local bar! I've had good service every time I come here. The food is always good and the bartenders are friendly and willing to chat when they're not busy. They also have a great selection on tap. I come here often and I've never had a bad experience.

This place is very free spirited. Everytime I visit I am welcomed by the staff, well I do personally know some of the employees, they really make me feel happy. Which is a reason why i go. I enjoy the atmosphere and will recommed this place if I am in the area.

I enjoy my visits here. They have a really big menu. Lots of different choices. The bartenders have always been pleasant. Service is normally pretty fast. They have a huge dining room. Pool tabkes upstairs and live music. Fun little spot hidden in castleton.

I have to say there was absolutely nothing special about this place. Absolutely DO NOT order the pulled pork sandwich. It tasted so rancid. The only thing that was worth while were the french fries. I may return to get carry out fries but nothing more.

Ryan Sanchez has done a great job with the ambiance, prompt and friendly service, and great late food. See it for yourself.

I love this place! They serve (delicious) breakfast and food until 1:30am everyday. Be sure to check out the specials throughout the week, also! The French Onion Beef Stew on Mondays is amazing. The staff is great - super friendly and attentive!

Cool bar but the location is terrible. It's located right next to an auto repair place. The insulation must be pretty bad because it smells like grease on the inside and not the cooking kind. I'd come back but I wish they could fix the smell.

Drinks were large and cheap so that's a plus. Bathrooms were clean and the staff were nice. We felt bad for our server since they were so understaffed but he still did a great job considering the situation! I would definitely come back again

This was actually a pretty cool and chill spot. They have a couple of pool tables which is nice and the whole layout is pretty unique. The drink pricing isn't horrible but isn't exactly cheap. But I would definitely come back to this place.

Horrible place. Service was slow. Bar had to close down because people were legitimately fighting and cussing each other out. If you want to go to a local place and just have a drink I would never go here. Place is very unsafe and ratchet.

In the 10 or so times I've eaten here I have never ordered a burger. Last night I did..., and it was one of the best burgers I have ever had. My husband said the same about his burger too. We left completely surprised and happy about it.

Bartender refused to serve me because I questioned why I had to wait 15 min to be served after I had witnessed multiple white people walk up to the bar and be serviced.

Dustin in the rest of the staff run a great establishment here. Always great deals and specials to go along with the amazing food. They also carry one of my favorite Indiana craft breweries, Terre Haute Brewing Company.

This is a great bar that does live music and does it great! We always have a good time here with incredible service. They have a nice drink menu book with a lot of great shot suggestions. I loved my Pickleback whiskey!

Service is great. Get a chicken quesadilla and instead of sour cream and pico, get their volcano buffalo sauce a side of ranch. The cl smooths are cold and their Rumpleminze is always replenished :)

This is a huge bar. There is lots to see and do and eat. Menu is big and fancy for a bar. Drinks are reasonable. Bartenders are pretty friendly. Lots of room with pool tables upstairs. Hidden gem.

if you get food to go make sure you check. im a regular there but for the last two sundays i have ordered food to go and half of my order wasn't there. the service is very poor

Can't answer on the spirits. Food was food nothing out standing. Burger had a microwave taste behind it. Descent portions. Service was minimal. I would eat there again if someone else paid.

I like breakfast foods and can order them there all day! My eggs were done to perfection. Our server was quick, efficient and so pleasant. We have enjoyed our visits and will be returning.

The Dirty Dirty Burger was a 1/2lb of beef cooked just right with a chipolte jam salsa. And the onion rings are super. Played some pool on an upper level and a live band started at 9 pm.

This people here are friendly and make you feel at home. The food is good and there is plenty of space for fun. Love the pool table area too with decent amount of sticks to choose from.

I know its a dive but the process around shift changes is pretty terrible. I opt to pay by the drink if its close to 5:30. Nothing great, nothing awful. I keep coming back.

Every time I go the food is good and the atmosphere is great. Always a blast. Would be a five star but every other time I have ordered wings they weren't done all the way.

I called in an order of wings. They were hot and ready when I got there, the bartender was nice and the wings were unbelievable! The sauces were great. Fries were perfect.

Hands down my favorite bar in Indy and the employees are even better than their awesome drinks. Trust me I know, I’m only here like 4 times a week. Best bar ever!!!!
