"Great local bakery in Richmond"
Integrity is the name of the game in the vanilla slice business. The Richmond Bakery have nailed this part of the slice. Biting into the vanilla slice, you could hear the crunch of the pastry and the softness of the custard. However, the vanilla slice showed its maturity with its structural integrity, remaining intact and compact throughout the entire consumption. The icing gave some lovely hints of sweetness without being overbearing, and nice hints of chocolate in addition. The pastry was not cakey or soggy, and had some nice, more savoury tones. In contrast to some other bakeries, there were three layers of pastry, essentially allowing a consumer to split it into more suitable portion sizes. The only criticism I have today is that of flavour. To my taste, the custard was unfortunately lacking the the namesake vanilla flavour (although it was there). Would love to see you guys improve. Quite underwhelmed by the coffee in other news. Thankyou Richmond Bakery, I salute you.
One very abrupt Baker, and two highschool age servers, the bakery was wall to wall with ppl waiting to be served, the Baker was rude and condescending to the staff. Barking orders at them making them on edge. My order came to 27 dollars, when I got to my car the young server had only taken 5.50 from my card sale. Other customers were ALL saying their experiences with money was exactly the same as mine, money wise. We were on a coach. The proprietar must have known how many people were going to go through his business. He should have rostered accordingly. Saving money paying junior staff to save wages inevitably cost him a LOT of revenue.

HAD THE BEST WARM MILK I EVER TASTED.. One star because FOH were lovely and can’t go any lower for that matter. Upon asking if they can tip the instant coffee (untouched) that was gone cold and make me a new one in my keep-cup, Red haired Barista’s response- that’s not my Job. Darling your Job is customer service, given the industry you’re in. You could have kindly declined and offered me to make my coffee in one of your take-out cup or a dine in cup, or asked me to tip it out myself. Now I paid $6.20 for a coffee which with what I tasted was almond milk with choc powder topping. Definitely wasn’t double shot Cap. Almost tasted like my instant coffee.. you know where I am going with this.. Bottom line, I would AVOID if after a good coffee!
With so many delicious looking options making it hard to decide, we finally ordered a Chicken & Camembert pie, and a sausage roll. The pastry was crisp and fresh, and the filling was delicious. The pie has just the right ratio of chicken to Camembert … so delicious! I recommend this pie if you ever visit Richmond. The sausage roll was delicious too but the pie was exceptional. The staff were courteous and friendly. We sat in the courtyard and listened to a nearby harp player (yes, a harp player) while we devoured our morning tea. A very memorable event. I recommend this bakery.
Great local bakery in Richmond. We visited straight from the airport as Richmond is only a short drive away. We tried the curry scallop pie, sausage roll, steak & mushroom and chicken & camambert. All were delicious - the pastry was fresh and crispy, the fillings were chunky and flavourful. Give this place a go when you're in the area!

Curried Scallop Pie
Stopped in for lunch and it was jam packed inside and out and a coach tour group was rolling up as well. Wife and I went for a walk and came back about 30min later. I ordered a peppered steak pie - best I’ve ever had - and my wife ordered a curried chicken pie. She had to wait for the next batch (~5min) as they’d sold out of the previous batch and it was well worth the wait. Reasonably priced, great food, and quick service. The only thing they need to improve is their queuing system when they get busy.
What a range of products. Even duck food for the locals in the park. Very clean. Hubby had a chicken & Camembert pie-interesting but could do with more flavour. No glutin free option so I had coffee-had decafe & almond milk-for once the milk wasn't burnt. Fast service. Heaps of tables both inside & out. Would go again

Came for the curried scallop pie. I don't have anything to compare it to honestly. That said, I thought the crust was evenly baked and the ingredients warm and fresh. It's an experience I have never had and enjoyed the flavors. Add some hot sauce to pick up the flavors and this pie is rocking. As it is delivered, it's a bit bland for my taste. The most important thing is it was fresh, the service was excellent and there is plenty of outdoor/indoor seating.
An awesome bakery is such a cute location! There is a huge variety of pies and baked goods. The Chicken and Camembert pie was excellent and the florentines are perfect, the best we have had. The coffee is excellent here too, you must go here if in Tassie. “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.
Visited the Richmond Bakery on my lunch break for the first time and oh my gosh, was I impressed!! I bought a sausage roll which was so delicious and cooked to perfection and a vanilla slice and it was honestly the best vanilla slice I have ever had. I absolutely enjoyed my first ever visit at this bakery, friendly staff, great welcoming atmosphere and yummy food. I will definitely be coming back here again!! 10/10!!! ☺️
Going anywhere near Richmond- then go here! Lunchtimes they are so busy with both young and old customers lining up for savoury and sweet treats! Even the coffee is nice! We never miss an opportunity (or two) to eat here Highly Recommend

Curry chicken pie was ok, Loved the vanilla slice, like a French vanilla. Didn't like the coffee that much. ( was ok but not to my personal taste.) . A little expensive also. Ate in, everything in takeaway containers so nothing felt personal. Very busy as always.

I ordered a mince pie since they didn't have chunky meat And it was really bad, the pie. The pie completely fell apart and was very sloppy from the start The meat was to pepperish and was overcooked compared to the batter. I've had a much better pie yesterday at the Port Author historical cafe and Id expect better from a "famous" cafe! Don't eat here until this place can bother to do better
This is the 1st place visited after landing at Hobart. Their scollap pie is so famous and it did not fail its reputation. A touch of curry flavour made the pie tasting very nice. My personal recommendation is here. Have the pie here and then get the Russian Honey cake from Czegs' Cafe nearby. Something savoury and then something sweet. Such a good experience.
This is a great bakery. So much so that it is very popular. The food is very good and coffee is good also. The problem is that, on public holidays and weekends, it's super busy and there can be a crowd, queueing for food and scarcity of seating.

Had a scallop pie $9.5. I like crispy pastry but this is not crispy enough for me. The texture was good but not impressive. The pie is bigger than usual but the filling is not enough have some empty part. All of these depends on everyone’s favor. The best is full of scallops!! I counted 5-6 scallops and they’re bigger than other shop!
Banbury is flaky, buttery, berry, sweetness goodness. Apple cake/pie reminds me of what my grandmother made Couldn't decide, so had both the apple cake (pie), and Banbury. Highly recommend them (have one for later). Tasmania has amazing food, drink, history, and scenery/wilderness. The roads (even 'c' roads) are of such a high quality.
Excellent bakery with all homemade cakes and the quiches are awesome in big or small!! The small biscuits are loved by the kids. Really nice outdoor sitting area where the kids can run around and reduce the sugar rush ;) the coffee is good and the staff is friendly. Lovely stop over in Richmond for a snack or quick lunch!
Been here for breakfast 3 times, as short drive from Hobart Airport. Curry scallop pie is the attraction and each time was not disappointed. They have a large selection of other pies, sandwiches, cakes and sweets. Indoors and outdoors sitting. Public car park and toilets walking distance to shop.
Coffee, vanilla slice and a chocolate hedgehog to keep us wired for the last leg to Hobart

Curried Scallop Pie
The Richmond Bakery vanilla slices are wonderful. The pies however, are so sloppy in consistency which in turn makes the pastry very soft. It is impossible to pick them up and eat them without making a mess. I had to use a knife and spoon. Luckily the vanilla slice saved the day.
It's a bakery...a very pleasant bakery to visit. Food - scrumptious; Drinks - mainstream ( didn't try their coffee ☹️); courtyard - very relaxing.

Awesome scallop pie and raspberry pie to finish, lots of pie selection and plenty of outdoor seating (indoor seating currently not available). The scallop pie had super soft pastry, and a smoother and more mild curry than other places, also seemed to have larger scallops.
Nice Bakery, don't know why can't add photos at the moment, anyway only twenty kilometres drive from Hobart, also friendly petrol station owner, plus from there you can go further like Ross Village, Freycinet National Park, Cradle mountain national Park, Launceston etc.
Food was so delicious and fresh. Really recommend any curry pies and the snot block (vanilla slice). Clean and roomy eating space and nice customer service —one of the best we had in Tasmania. Friendly and warm atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience!
Good sized and tasty sausage rolls, pies were nice but my scallop pie was mainly sauce with just 2 scallops in it. The highlight was the rich chocolate cake we bought to take home for my partners 50th Birthday cake. It only cost $15.00 and was just divine!!!
Hands down, the best bakery I've ever been to - and I've been to a lot! The scallop pie and vanilla slice were next level - flaky pastry, so much flavour and a decent size. The old girls on the counter were hilarious - such great service! Highly recommend!
Decent coffee and cakes. Chocolate eclair was fresh and delicious. Nice seating area for dine in and take away available also

They make a fantastic vanilla slice and a really good pepper steak pie, both of which were comparable with the best I had in Tassie. The scallop pie was really good too. There is dining both inside.and out and they maintain a busy stream of customers.
Scallops pie, cauliflower and cheese pie, desserts, chocolate milk shake, chocolates...the variety of assorted treats is amazing. Even with so many people waiting to place orders, the orders were quick and the food was there within minutes.
Great stop with scallop pies and plenty of shops to browse.

Curried Scallop Pie
Best coffee we have had so far in Tasmania was from this bakery! I can see wtlhy the vanilla slice has won awards, they have nailed the balance of sweet but not too sweet. Steak pie was amazing! I got one fresh out of the oven …
We have been searching far and wide for the best Scallop Pie in Tassie, and can happily say WE FOUND IT !! Perfect crust, perfect filling with plenty of wonderful scallops, to die for .. What a gorgeous spot in a beautiful town …
The Richmond Cafe offers excellent indoor and outdoor seating arrangements. The ambiance is pleasant and the decor is lovely. However, what stood out for me was their delicious curried scallop pie. I highly recommend trying it.
Gorgeous village the bakery is set in a small square with lots of seating and trees other specialist shops around it , the bakery has the best sausage roll I've had in years it has a good selection of cakes and pies also
Clearly a destination favourite as it was extremely busy when we arrived by didn't stop us from enjoying our meal. Beautiful seating inside and outside. Great coffee and beautiful pies. Cannot wait to come back again.
Vanilla slice is to die for and the raspberry tart was delicious, it looks rich but was delightful and not so sweet at all. Highly recommend visiting this bakery.

Not a bad little spot. Sadly they don't make any cold drinks... The pies are nice, not the best nor the worst. The seating is a bit cramped, I got stuck with a crying baby behind me and no where to run to.
Steak and mushroom pie was ok but the coffee was disgusting. So over priced. Could only have a few sips before I threw it out. Totally don't bother

Curry Scollop Pie Hmmm
Had the most amazing vanilla sliced cake ever!!! The cream is perfect, top layer is sweet but not overly. The crust and middle layer crust were heavenly. Can’t describe in words , you must try it
They gave me the wrong pie. However they were busy. I ate the pie I was given. It was quite nice. Nice big chunks of steak. My coffee was well made. And taste quite nice. Overall good experience
I might have been there on a bad day, but two front of house staff with the number of customers at the time was a bit under done. I was pleased to enjoy a terrific pie and decent coffee, though.
Definitely a to-go pie shop in Tasmania. It’s the third time I visit and I will come back still! The best place to have a scallop pie and a cup of tea, enjoy the beautiful afternoon in Richmond.
Stopped by on our drive to try their famous curried scallop pies. Decent number of scallops (counted 5). Texture was thick and creamy. Not my favourite, but depends on your preferences.
Great bakery...brilliant scallop pie...speedy and very friendly service. Highly recommend. Also, Richmond itself is a great spot to walk around and observe / absorb a little history
Good Food - coffee a complete ripoff. Order a regular coffee and a flea would struggle to drown in it. Chiseling your customers isn’t the way to make them want to return.
Really great Tasmanian Salmon quiche and vanilla slice! Many options + whole cakes & quiches available to purchase. Located near other shops and staff were lovely.
Can't believe this place has no reviews. Beautiful pies, pasties and sausage rolls. Made on premises. And amazing treats too! Check out the vanilla slice.
I had a long black and, most important, a Black Forest cake, which had a very good and creamy taste! I would go this this cake again in the future!
Best Steak & Mushroom pie i have had for a while! Keep up the good work!

Good quality products, using butter instead of cheap margarine in puff pastry. Great vanilla custard in Vanilla Slice.
Scallop pies were yummy! And dont forget about the vanilla slice. Goes really well with as the dessert after the pie.
Hubby had his first ever scallop pie from here and he loved it. I had beef and it was full of thick steak pieces.
One of the best scallop pies I've had! Fresh scallops, tasty and fresh pastry make a match made in heaven!
Great coffee, wonderful range of tasty sweets and savories and lovely friendly staff …
I came late and the bakery was closing time, so I didn't enjoy the variety, but the bread tastes great!
Tasty bakes and great coffee! Service is quick and kind and the outdoor space is great for sunny days
Conveniently situated within this quaint historic tourism town, you'll find this outstanding bakery.
I thought Cornish pasties were supposed to have vegetables and a small amount of meat? Opposite here
Great scallop pie and lovely atmosphere in the beautiful town of Richmond.
