The Southwest Center Mall, aka, Red Bird Mall is, in my opinion, of "Landmark" status. It was my very first point of destination on my first trip ever to Dallas, Texas (before I actually moved here). The spot was called "Club Nicole", a bangin' nightclub from back-in-the day (the location later became Spud Webb's Hair Salon). I have worked at several of the men's clothing stores (on both levels) and held an Assistant Manager position with "Champs Sports" which was located on Level 1, and I worked at the old photo development store that used to be on Level 2. A photo development store, wow, I've been around for while. I was the Assistant Manager of the Living Well Fitness Center that was located on Camp Wisdim directly across from the mall and was a personal fitness trainer at Bally's Fitness Center (located in the stand alone building on the service road (eastside of the mall). Part of my history in Dallas is tied to this landmark and to this area. Happy to see the Mall making a come back and hopefully adding to the quality of life in the Southwest as it once did.
We entered IHop at 2:30 pm. We were told that there would be a 10 minute wait. We said, no worries. 35 minutes later...we still were not seated. And they seated 2 patrons who got here 5 minutes after we arrived..10 minutes more before we were Finally seated. Our server must be new. He can't even make a decent glass of tea. He doesn't speak up. He doesn't speak clearly. It's almost an hour later and we have still not been served our food that we ordered 15 minutes after we were seated. My husband and I just lost our loved one last week. We have a funeral first thing in the morning. We have things to do. Everyone around us has been served. If the food sucks...I will NEVER eat here again. It used to be a GREAT PLACE TO EAT. NOT TODAY OBVIOUSLY.
I'm 20 and my mom said when she was growing up this place was the spot to be after school and on the weekends but when we came back to visit, we were disappointed. Not only is this place 75% vacant, but it's also ghettofied and rundown. My dad said he used to come to this mall to buy his jewelry and I'm even wearing a gold bracelet as of right now that he bought from this place 15-20 years ago but now, I wouldn't trust buying water from this place. The few stores that were around were filled with owners constantly trying to hustle us and it was just an overall sorry situation. On the bright side if you don't like people, then this mall is just for you because nobody goes there.
It's pitiful how they come up with economic development for our communities. A sinking mall(no major department stores) with no black modern culture or legitimate black major store owners. There's this one store I won't name the owner don't know if he want to charge you $80 or $100 for a shirt. Black people don't make money to fit the not listed prices on items in that and another foreign store owner whos target audience is our people. The economic structure should've been modern with major department stores. There's plenty of small Very expensive apartments already and medical centers. What about a planetarium or something fun and educational while shopping?
They are making plans to totally change this mall" it will have a little water play park for kids in front" the picture of up coming plans are displayed in mall entrance" right now they are excavating the lot"n parking is a little bit of hassle until changes are completed . The mall shopping stores are mostly empty" Burlington is still there. South western hospital clinic will occupy the old Sears store and parkland hospital will also sit up a clinic in mall" shopping will be in the middle. I read they will employ about a 100 employees. When plans are completed will have a total new look.
Growing up coming to this mall literally every weekend, It really sadden me to see the property go down in the rate it did, Thank goodness for the new owner and seeing that the area just needed a little TLC. Now the entire property is being reinvented and renovated it’s giving me hope that this mall will be one of those failure to success stories In the era of malls being dismantled for favorable outdoor strip malls, This indoor shopping space will be here Thank you Reimagine Redbird team #ReimagineRedBird
Used to be a stable in the community, a go-to place to shop, eat, chill. Now stores are closed at every turn or are either run-down, and store clerks/owners just stand at the entrance of their stores yelling at every and anyone to try and get them inside. Hopefully the planned revitalization/restoration is still going to happen for this mall, an old cornerstone of the community.
Doesn't have much in it like it used tah b. Alot of the barbers there overprice their haircuts for children. Charge like they are adults would never take my children there again. The ships are okay...only thing i do when i go there are get my eyebrows threaded. They do a good job. For now it's my go tah spot fah my brows until i venture out and try somewhere different.
I went yesterday to Southwest Center Mall to meet up with a homeboy and pick up some stuff from him. He has changed quite a bit from Redbird Mall to its former self. There are less people coming to the mall less traffic. A lot of parking space no traffic jams! So overall it was good. Did not make it inside the store though went to Foot Locker. And that was all.
Dangerous place to be, and very few stores. I was meeting up with someone for a date. We had to meet at a half way point from our homes. I asked if there was a mall, and he suggested this one, but had not been here in years. I love him, but this mall experience was a total fail, other then the few places in the food court. The hamburgers were great!!!!
I know the mall needs to stay open for the money. However the mall itself needs a lot more variety, not a lot of variety of stores. It feels like you're walking into different stores but still getting the same items from the previous store. I mean I would like to see at least a craft store, or something that just doesn't sell the same items.
As a mall it's not that wonderful, but they do have an awesome Burlington Coat factory. My favorite one in fact. And now they have a Parkland Health Clinic there as well as a UT Southwestern Clinic there. I also believe the Texas Workforce Commission is now there. You cannot beat that for convenience for the south side of dallas.
What is going on here?? Where are all the stores?? Is this a shopping mall or just a building with other companies for they business. Why is it when it come to the urban area our places have to be crafted into other than.... Other than a mall... Other than a place for entertainment... Other than for our people to enjoy..
Well it was open went during the week it was kinda slow. They are renovating the mall from the outside & inside I think because i seen alot of construction when I went. Had sum bombass chili cheese nachos tho lol but overall it was chill just went to take a buddy to sell his iphone at the phone machine that buys phones.
Black Friday was unorganized this range couldn't find what you looking for everything powered on top of everything else it was you touch something it's be real sticky stuff stuck on your hand you don't know what that was good being diseases or infection or anything I did not like Black Friday need to be more organized
I went to the Workforce Center here. When I tell you these people are friendly and helpful! Very courteous and willing to assist Everybody there. I felt very comfortable here. These are Professionals at your call to any detail matter. They are eager to assist in any way. I was literally amazed.
This shopping mall is pretty much dead. Almost all of the name brand stores have left or gone out of business. However, developers are going to change the whole look up and have apartments and business offices with the mall in the middle of everything. This is a little ways out from beginning
The mall is well overdue for a makeover. The southwest side of Dallas is finally getting a new look. The Mall formerly known as Redbird / Southwest Center Mall is getting a new name as well as new buildings. From what I can see on the billboard it looks as if it's going to be something great.
I'm not sure what this is but it's definitely not a mall. Very swap meetish..the things sold in there are very cheap. I was so excited when I saw the African Import store and was immediately run off by the aggressive lady working in there with a bowl of Shea butter. Very disappointing mall
Too much construction. Southwest center mall is not a mall it is a set of seperate stores. It looks as though their will never be a shopping mall that was mapped out to the general public and then crashed within its own existence. I am sure it will please the public when it is finished.
They're getting better and better I enjoy going shopping there because for one thing they're not overcrowded therefore a person can get in and get out in no time if a person wanted to. Also you can find good deals and prices if a person is not trying to spend a lot of money.
I was surprised to see that the mall had really changed. There was a wide selection of products that I was looking for I felt safe and the mall was very clean. No littering, no people hanging around. The design of the Mall is going to make it amazing. Very user friendly.
It is sad to say, this mall is all but dead. I don't know what it will take to revive this place. I remember back in the day it was the place to be. Everything you needed was in there Chic fil a was there and that was my first taste of there famous chicken sandwich.
Be glad when they finish working on the mall parking is a nightmare and most stores are closed only go for the nachos at this moment plus all the shoes stores have moved outside the mall making me wonder when the rebuild is done what stores will be inside the mall
It was pretty empty. For most, this wouldn't be such a bad thing, but I would rather not shop in such a vast area all by lonesome. Also, many shops were closed, not sure what's going on there but it was very disappointing. Basically, I was walking around area.
This mall doesn't have too much going on, it's only two major stores in there right now and in one of them my sister was followed around by a employee. We'll see if it gets better when they are done with all the construction that's been going on forever.
They have extremely slow register cashier's and we were in line for 1 hour 21 minutes for Christmas shopping the staff is nice just not enough employees versus how many people are shopping so be prepared to take a long time to get your shopping done
Clean, people were friendly, and i got my first vaccine shot...no big deal after first shot;but i felt a little...bad after 2nd dose...seeing all the lines if cars of people waiting to get shot, and it took me all of maaaaybe 30 minutes....go me!
I love Redbird and this mall. I am so glad to see new money and conveniences coming to our community. Hopefully we tear down the mall soon and replace with a more modern shopping experience. We have a good Burlington aff the rack store.
Under Construction... I'm in a wheelchair waiting for a hip replacement and it sucked getting over there from the bus... DART Drops you Off about 3 Quarters of a mile away... Go Figure... Blessings and Favor Over You... Scotty K.
Sears is shutting down, don't know why Burlington coat is still open? That mall is dead, gone for good. I hate going there, reminds me how old I am, I remember when it first opened, it was beautiful, guess times change everything.
this mall is not really open because it looks like the facility is a shutdown permanently closed but is under renovation construction when i was a little kid and toddler and big boy my parents used to go this mall but not anymore
Nice to see my old stomping grounds. Lots of plans and construction underway now to rejuvenate revitalize and reimagine the whole facility as well as shops in the parking lot. Happy to see so many stores surviving the pandemic.
In all fairness I can not rate this place, I went there early in the morning for a covid-19 vaccine. It was very empty, there was Alot of construction and confusion on how to enter this place. Alot of detours and dead ends
They rubies my hair never go here never ever please don't go or you will be like me that shaved allu hair i wish i can give them a 0 rate but i can't so i give it a 1 Never coming back they shaved my hair in the middle
Work is being done on this mall. They kept the old feel reminesce of the good ole days. Some upgraded and renovations were much needed. We need to support businesses in that area...my stomping ground of yore
How sad this mall has become. I remember it's heyday when it was the most popular place to shop in Dallas. Nothing left but knockoff name brand clothes, jewelry shops, smokes shops, etc. and reeked of weed.
Southwest Center mall is not as lively anymore but it looks like they are remodeling around the mall which I'm sure will bring more attractions more people.... stores are still cool on the inside …
Lots of construction not a lot of stores to choose from. The shoe stores have been moved outside of the mall to a separate location in the lot. You can see the effort they are taking to change the mall
The most hoodrat infested place you will ever experience. The place is deserted and it's very obvious why. Just go somewhere else if you want decent customer service without being followed everywhere.
Mall is nearly Empty, the available food selection is poor. The mall is pretty dirty. Maybe after the construction. Update things are looking up a little bit it still feels like a ghost town in there
This formally known as red bird mall has really went down. The stores are suppose to open at 10 am but most of them opened late, and they want to overcharge the customers for their product. Smh
It’s always a pleasure visiting this mall, the entire mall staff is friendly, the mall is clean including the restrooms, and it’s always a adventure. I look forward to visiting this mall again
Went shopping at Burlington with my brother so he could buy stuff for his grandsons Christmas. Store was in disarray due to how busy they were and it was busy. The cashiers were really AMAZING
Went to the Burlington's there and it was disappointing. Not much to chose from, half the lights were out, and it was just not welcoming. I doubt if I would be back to shop at this location.
Passing through the old Red Bird Shopping Mall, just wanted to see what was up there. They've built a new Parkland Outpatient Clinic and there is a UTSouthwestern annex being built a well.
This small for all intents and purposes is pretty much gone I read about a redevelopment project for the space and I know that they've been abating something in some of the old stores.
Back then this mall was some what decent now it's gone . It has been under construction for years . Towards the front on camp wisdom are different shoe stores which is a big plus!!!
I always like going here I hope they bill more shopping here this is a very good location for a mall been up shopping here for since the'70s so I hope they build more shopping here
Very little is open in it has no food court and my son and boyfriend was bored with not enough places for them to get what they wanted. That we left after being there 30mins.
This place is dying. However there are ans.to build apartments which will revive this area. Loss of J.C. Penny's years ago and Sears recently is a great loss to this area.
There is a store in this mall don't go to,she did my eyelashes and charges 35$ and they came off the next day she didn't do anything about it for me this happened twice
Whatever this place was it is no longer open. I read talks of remodeling but it looks like it's turning onto a medical building. Do not waste your time getting here
I just became privy to the Redbird remake..all those motels are being bought by the city and new high rises and business ..aka "gentrification" is on the way...
There aren't many stores, glad to see the area improving though. There might be a bit of a hassle getting in and out due to construction but it's ok.
One of the worst place to start a business. Absolutely shady management. Shops are in the filthiest nastiest condition. Stay away from this place.
Body bang tattoos is the reason i go. They are awesome artists and piercing professionals. Its inside the mall attached to jimmy jazz on the side.
The fact that the mall is still active to this day makes me want to come back to see it become alive once again. Loved it, gives me such nostalgia
Great place for the community. The development around the mall is awesome. The surrounding area is sketchy but over all what area is not sketchy.
The footlocker experience is like none other. You can always find something to buy. Ill always stay true to that mall however the changes come!!
Watched my little sister get her hair trimmed up, but didn't find a good pair of shoes and had to go across the parking lot to the Foot Locker.
Its getting better just guys hanging around outside looking at everyone come in but they're working on making it back like it was in the 90s.
I went to footlocker. I was in and out. The staff addressed me as as I walked. There was a sale going on and prices where lower then online.
Amazing shopping experience. Still open for in person shopping. UTSouthwestern/Parkland have opened a COVID-19 Vaccination hub here now.
It's a small mall with potential... They could do better. But the prices are cheap. If you dont like crowds this is the place to be...
Booth jewelers are treacherous. Installed a battery & broke my diamond watch!!! Then tried to act like I brought it in that way …
That was a real nice place to go walk around they got a little of everything and animals clothes country western clothes you name it
I had been trying to find the Workforce Center and I drove around and located it. It is nice not as spacious as the other location.
Great place to do a great walk and a little shopping. Just waiting g for the mall to be changed with more places to be added!!
It looks like they are struggling with having enough personnel to keep up with the store. Sotre looked dirty and unorganized.
The employees are very helpful here. If you need employment they'll help you at all cost. I feel very comfortable there.
Beautiful re-working of this facility that is still in progress. UT Southwest Clinic in the old Sears bldg is stunning!
Visited the Foot Action. Didn't walk any other stores in the mail. Came in through the food court, for easy access.
Fino had a superior shirt game in his store ..His loafers were edible and he did treat me like a loyal customer...
Can't wait til this finish renovating this mall. It's old but still a good old place to shop at from time to time
This place closes at 7, not 9pm!!! Update the damn hours. Ppl driving up here from across town for nothing!
They are rebuilding the mall. It looks like it will be fantastic when completed. Growing paynes right now.
Visited the Parkland radiology clinic. Staff were super nice, friendly, helpful and quick. …
This place it’d starting to look and feel more safe and I love the barber shop down stares by Burlington
Had to go to Burlington. It be a lil messy there but do have good prices. The line went by pretty fast.
Yes it is worth the new Parkland clinic is and I visit that place when I go to the clinic great place
Glad to see they remodeled this place!! Looks great! Need more stores that's not around here though.
This new facility is awesome! I followed my physician over. Very nice and caring individuals here.
New parkland center hands down nice until people mess it up but the place is nice, quiet and quick
Can't wait to see some more stores in there. Sad journeys is gone. Need more than shoe stores lol
Renovations still going on can't wait till the mall gets renovated. Went there for Covid Vaccine.
It's very open and lovely. Christmas is now the theme. Lots of stores, great prices! I go often.
It's getting better. The improvements are coming along. I can't wait to see the finish product.
Brand new place. Open 2 days ago. The staff was very professional. I was pleasantly surprised.
It's clean. Only a few stores, but so much construction! Can't wait to see it when it's done!
It's hard to look at pictures of this place..my mom died in this mall November 16 2015...
They are in process if remodeling the mall. It still has a few stores, and a barber shop.
Mall is pretty dead but can't wait to see what it will look like after construction
Must very risky going there because there were several police cars around the lot.
There is a lot of construction going on so it's hard to enter and Shop effectively
Had Dr appt at Parkland the mall has changed a lot , but still nice …
Took my daughter there for a Dr appointment, surprised me it was in the mall.
It's going to look great when the remodeling is done. For now it's just...
