My first time ordering was and incredible experience. I have over 40 years of experience in the freshwater and saltwater aquarium hobbies. I know garbage when I see it and I know what it takes to take the time to ship animals properly. This business does a great job in its dedication to its online customers. If I lived close to the this brick and mortar store, I would be in a lot of trouble. 1. Communication - the communication with staff was fast, informative and friendly. I have initiated communication with some places where it took days and up to a week or more to receive a response. I feel totally confident to reach out regarding questions or ordering. 2. Prices - I shopped around and the prices are very reasonable. Some items might be a little more expensive, but if the quality of stock is any indication, a little bit more for the quality of animals is an acceptable tradeoff. Otherwise, much of what I ordered had prices that couldn't be beat. 3. Shipping - The shipping process was very easy. Again, I will say communication was very well executed. You are contacted to coordinate shipping so that your animals are not just sitting around whenever they arrive, so I knew exactly what day my animals were being sent and when they would arrive. 4. Packaging - Since I am not local to this fish store, my transaction was over the internet. As such, the way my order was shipped was nothing short of a well executed plan. My livestock came in a sensibly sized box, with warming packs (shipped in March) and was wrapped in paper around the bags so that they were static during transport. Additionally, the animals were bagged in such a way that they had no sharp corners in the bags to get smashed and in the case of neocaridina shrimp, some net media for them to cling onto so they weren't sliding all over the inside of the bags. This was all contained in the box with styro surrounding all 4 sides. I temp check and slow drip acclimate my livestock and the temp of the water was not too far off from that of my tanks kept at 78.8 degrees. 5. Livestock - All the items I received, I checked over before opening the bags per their policy in the event of deads or damaged animals. All the animals were perfect in appearance. I ordered 25 chili rasboras, 6 pygmy corys, some blue neocardina shrimp and a bunch of snails. They were all active, alert and free of any blemishes, torn fins and any other visible malady I could assess. The color of the Chilis are already starting to pop mere hours after they have been introduced into their new home. I don't believe that anyone could get better quality stock visiting most stores in person. 6. Transaction - Nice and simple. They take all electronic forms of payment up to and including paypal. 7. Final assessment - I did a lot of research on feedback and reviews regarding this business. Given the very delicate nature of the animals I collect and the delicate water parameters that are needed down to the ion, I take trust and quality very seriously. I can only relay my experience, but if we were friends and I wanted you to have a good experience ordering where you could trust that from beginning to end you would get a good experience, then hands down I would recommend this place without reservation. I look forward to finding an excuse for my next order.
My mom and I have been coming here for years and now they have lost our business. I’m glad they have done as well as they have, but their success has really come at the cost of quality of advice and service. Employees no longer seem interested in what sort of tank you are setting up, no longer ask questions about what you are looking for, and in general are not as engaged as they used to be. I came in to get medicine for my mom’s 92 gallon freshwater tropical community tank. I told them we had ich and some sort of bacterial fin rot and I needed medicine to treat fungus and bacteria. The man helping me said they were “out of what he wanted to give me” and sold me Seachem MetroPlex instead. I asked him if it would help with the ich too as the packaging only mentions parasites and bacteria and he said it would. Turns out MetroPlex does absolutely nothing for fungal infections. As a result the ich went untreated and the entire tank is disastrously infected. If he had just told me he didn’t know if it would work, or had told me what the proper medication he wanted to give me was so I could get it elsewhere that would be totally different, but this is just unacceptable. We came to Wet Spot because we trusted them to give us good advice and this is a let down that may very well kill our entire tank. Two stars instead of one because their fish are always really healthy, and the quality of their stock in general is always good.
I ordered from them online and my experience has been amazing. They have an amazing selection of fish at really good prices, and their service is great with very friendly people. I live on the east side, and my order arrived on time so shout out to ups on that, well done and much appreciated. The order itself was outstanding! All my fish were healthy looking and active. The water in the bags was crystal clear and warm. I had no DOA's and no losses during acclamation. Their packing was above professional and nicely done. Heat pack is still hot! I bought two attempted pair's of Apistogramma's, the cacatuoides and the agazzi Tefe Red Back. Both pair came it looking amazing and full of color. They are indeed male and female pairs. My female Cacatuoides is already fluttering for my male. The wild caught's are amazing, very healthy and active. Ordered 12 pygmy spotted rasbora and everyone of them came in alive, survived acclimation and are happy as can be. Same with the 6 pygmy hatchet fish. I highly recommend this place and will be doing business with them again myself. I appreciate everything you guys have done, and the time you took to do it. Thank you again Here is an image of the aquarium I built for my apistogramma cacatuoides
I came in to add a few items to my already established tank. I have had the same fish and ghost shrimp for 2 years now. I wanted to add a few more little colorful shrimp and a few tiny ghost shrimp plus some snails and plants, I also picked out an awesome piece of wood for the shrimp to enjoy. I explained what I already had in my tank to the store employee who rushed me through all of my choices. Once home I added the plants and wood and then I slowly acclimated the shrimp and snails. The next morning ALL THE SHRIMP WERE DEAD - including the ones I have had for 2 years that were fully grown and the spotlight of my aquarium. Out of the six snails I purchased only one survived. Getting through to them on the phone is next to impossible! I called to see what might cause this! What do I need to remove? Is it the plants or maybe something on the wood or just Poor quality shrimp?? No one answers or calls you back. I had grown so attached to all of my shrimp and watching them daily, not only are my kids devastated but I am out more than $100 and that’s not including what died that I already had in my tank. I would avoid this place if I were you!! We are so sad…and left with an empty tank.
I've used these guys for years and they have quality fish. The last time I tried to order, as I have done for a long time, it went so poorly I've not felt ok returning as a customer. The Wet Spot is a decent place to order from as long as there no hiccups. If there are hiccups and you can't find the fish anywhere else...you just have to deal with them. A good business is one that can deliver on its promises; a great business is one that when it can't deliver or there is an issue it still makes things go smooth. The Wet Spot is a good business. I really miss the incredibly friendly staff members I had experience with before this last order. EDIT AND RESPONSE: I'm sorry, there seems to be some confusion as to what actually occurred on your end. When the fish I ordered from other online suppliers (who also very much care about the health of their fish) arrived at the exact same time you said you all would be unable to deliver due to weather, the temperature was not 20 F or C for that matter. They all arrived alive and in perfect health. In fact they're all still alive to this day. Your information is inaccurate.
122 tanks in the fish room and no fish! Started two planted tanks in the house and needed some fish. Joe spent some time with me last monday to answer my questions and was extremely helpful. He advised on the steps they go through to prepare the fish for shipment. I received the shipment on wednesday. The J. Ornatus were almost adult size even though it was labeled as medium 1.50-2.00 inches. They were healthy and color was very good. The reticulated flying foxes were very active once in the tank foraging for food. The box was neatly packed, well insulated and each bag was labelled with the species. Will definitely reorder once I get more tanks. This was first order two years ago. Today I received either my 9th or 10th order. As usual, the box was packed properly, heat pack still warm and water temperature 72F. The Corydora Melini were all splashing in the water while still in the bag. No dead fish. I must commend Wet Spot, knowlegeable staff and extremely understanding. Previous shipments has had an occasional dead fish or two and an immediate credit is granted applicable to the next order.Thank you.
Ordered online from across the country and couldn’t be happier! I was recommended by someone in my local aquarium association and loved them. They only offer overnight shipping which I really appreciate because it feels like they are serious about the well-being of the fish. They emailed to verify a delivery date and don’t ship until you confirm which I also really appreciate because it made sure I could choose a date when I knew I would be home to receive them right when delivered. I got otos and habrosus corys, I had concerns especially about the corys being smaller and sensitive fish but their process really makes sure they all do well. Everyone arrived healthy and active, it hasn’t been too long but a couple days later all 15 are still doing great. When I confirmed the delivery date I also asked if they could choose some more mature fish just cause I felt they’d probably do better with the delivery. I don’t know if they did so intentionally but I do feel I got more mature fish, some were even bigger than the adults I already had in my tank for a while. Couldn’t be happier.
This place is world-famous for a reason. They don't have the widest selection for the rarest fish or the most amazing anything. What they do have is a great layout and fantastic service and a good system for making sure customers have a fine experience exploring the store and then getting help when they need it. They do have a good selection and a good variety of high-quality products and plants and fish and other livestock. You will often find things here that you can't find at other fish stores in the area, but you will also find things elsewhere that you can't find here. If you are just trying to have a nice day at the fish store or you are new to the hobby then this should be your first and probably only stop. If you are deep into the hobby and know your stuff then you might want to check out some of the other places or just visit the store closest to your home on a regular basis but you will still want to keep coming back here because it is always a good experience and I always leave with a smile on my face and probably more stuff than I intended to buy.
This is the 2nd time that I have purchased from the Wet Spot. I am extremely impressed by their team. From Sales to Shipping departments every transaction is smooth. Everything is thought out thoroughly on their end right down to the bags they ship out the fish in. The shipping bags that The Wet Spot use are nice and thick and have rounded corners so it minimizes the fish getting trapped in the corners. For the quality of fish, you can tell they are well taking care of. I live in SW Ohio with limited resources in obtaining good live stock. So for me the shipping isn't a big deal knowing that what I am receiving is high quality live stock. I am posting a picture of one of the Apistogramma's that I received from them. Keep in mind this is slightly over 24 hours since I dropped him in my tank he will color up even more as time goes on. Give them a try you won't be disappointed!!! Update August 2021: Well, I have baby fry after only a month the pair has produced a very nice brood of over 25. Just another testimony of how great #thewetspot.com live stock is!!!
So, I have been here before and loved it. I went in this time, was ignored. My boyfriend got talked to, told to wait and write our names down instead. So, we did. Three people were helped ahead of us, getting fish who had just walked in. We spent an hour waiting and as I walk out, all of a sudden they can help. They help my boyfriend, who explains we are from out of town. They say we can have help if there are issues. We find wonderful adds, quarantine and continue to add then to an already cycled tank. We did this due to their other fish having ick, plainly. which is treatable and was treated - we wake up to sick fish still. so! We have our water tested, parameters are fine. Our other fish and tanks are fine. It is ONLY their fish, that are sick. They refuse to help or bother listening to our concerns even after expressing they would help due to us being out of town. I even had pictures and water to show them. Never again
I found The Wet Spot shortly after moving to Portland in 2005. I was immediately enamored. The selection and the display tanks rekindled a childhood passion and wonder I had for keeping fish. My first date with my partner of 13 years was at a nano tank building class held by and at The Wet Spot. I even worked for The Wet Spot for a few years, both at the store, and behind the curtain so to speak. In nearly 20 years I’ve seen the store go through changes, people have come and gone (including myself). The staff is always full of as wide a cast of characters as Portland offers… the through-line is passion. The two people at the core of the business are passionate, savvy, and hardworking. I’ve seen how “the sausage is made”, I’m not the arbiter of judgment, but I doubt that there is a company that does better. They deserve all of their success and more. There’s no better place to buy fish, nor fish keeping supplies.
This is a very good aquarium fish store with passionate employees. Fair pricing and good policy regarding diseased fish purchases make them very customer focused. In the last few purchases, the fish have come with ich. There's not much fish stores can do about this. Nothing a quick round of meds and quarantine couldn't fix. After the third time it happened, we said something about the bad luck and showed pictures of the sick fish. The place comped half our next order. Not necessary but certainly appreciated. I know it sucks to hear... But definitely have a quarantine tank when buying new fish, regardless of where they come from. Any of these purchases would have killed everything in the tank in a couple weeks had we not taken action. If you don't want to treat sick fish, don't get into the hobby. It's part of the ownership process and I'm sure anyone that works here would be happy to tell you how it works.
Be 100% sure what you want, or pay 15%. First time having an aquarium, I went in and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I chose items and plants based on recommendations, including a nice tank light. When I got home I realized it wouldn't clip into my new aquarium because of a lip. So, next day I returned it in flawless condition and was charged a $7 fee for "restocking." Which is listed on the back of the receipt you get AFTER purchase. Now I get if it's a 50 gallon tank. Or a living thing that has to be isolated and re-acclimated. But it was a light that I could turn around from the counter, walk 2 feet, and put back where I got it the day before. REALLY soured my feelings. I chose a local shop for the experience and to support the community but any big purchases I make in the future I'll simply do online, and leave this place for live fish and cheap stuff.
We've been customers of Wet Spot for some time and the service has dramatically improved over the years. Their current employees have great insight and are beginner friendly! They're knowledgable about not only the fish, but the decor you're putting into the tank like rocks and wood that could be harmful to the fish you would like to put into your tank. Haven't felt talked down to and the employees are genuinely interested in sharing what they know. Great selection of supplies. Bulk rock, wood, plants, water treatments, food, tanks, and more. Beautiful and unique fish selection unlike any I've seen in town. Definitely the place to go if you're looking for a special Cichlid. Aisles can be a bit cramped during the weekend, so I would highly suggest going on a weekday for the best service and experience.
This place is wonderful, the upkeep on these aquariums are lovely. I heard them going over cleaning/feeding schedules as I was in the store. I saw 0 dead fish and only live healthy plants. Last aquatic store I went to had ich on most of their fish, not this place! The staff is helpful and funny, you can tell they enjoy their job and eachother. Let me also mention the pricing is very reasonable. I got 6 kuhli and they're so happy and healthy! Nothing makes me happier then aquatics. Can I just move in? Edit: As I was reading, yes there is a very sarcastic/rude male that works there. He looks like a hipster though so I just assume it's part of his shtick? I asked what breed of nitrate and he sad "yes. It is a snail." And walked away. I am in customer service and I hate people too. Cheers to him.
I visited the Wet Spot with my partner about an hour ago. Initially when I walked in I was immediately entranced by the tanks and items out for display. I walked over to the second part of the store where no one else was and began looking, all of a sudden I hear two employees talking and don't mind it at all until one of them references a "Chinese man" and goes on to say that the man was speaking chinese to him and goes "ching chong bing bong" to the other employee who laughed then they carried on their business. I was extremely frustrated and saddened by this because I had heard great things about the business and staff. I will most likely never return to this business again because of the blatantly racist remarks two employees made where I believe they thought no one could hear them.
I absolutely love this fish store! I have had a fresh water tank since early November 2021. All of my plants, wood, and fish except one are from The Wet Spot. All of my fish are happy, healthy, and gorgeous. I have purchased White Cloud Mountain minnows, 3 different pangio species, and mystery snails. Along with the quality of my tank additions being exceptional, the staff is also terrific! Every time I’ve been in the people working have been knowledgeable and super friendly. My last visit I had a chat with Leah. She took the time to listen to all the questions I had about my fish and plant life. Being new to this, hobby I am still expanding my knowledge, and have PLENTY of questions. Thank you Leah for taking the time to make me feel confident in my purchase!!
Update, he is still doing good growing slowly. *! UPDATE, they have edited their website to reflex the actual size so I bumped them up a star or two!* Thank you for fixing your website. :-) I phoned in an order for pickup which was nice and easy, I ordered some shrimp and a Zebra throne snail which according to there website should be from 1/2 inch to 1 inch. This little guy was only about 1/4 of inch which I did not find out until I was back at home. I called and let management know that there website info was wrong, she seemed to know that they have been that size for a while and that the website gets updated on Fridays... They did offer to refund my money if I brought the 3 dollar snail back, which is way more of a pain then it is worth.
I am not the one that goes here shopping for fish it just so happens its my wife's hobby, I am just always with her when we go here! She has a 75 gallon with multiple fish, shrimps and snails. 20 long, 10 gallon and a five gallon. This is a very popular fish store, they are not just know locally, I believe they also have a national presence as you can order off of their website. The employees are always pleasant and very helpful. There is a very good and big selection of fresh water fish and saltwater fish as well as tanks. Wife says in her opinion this is the best and biggest fish store in the portland metro area. I have gone to a lot of stores with her, IMHO from what I have seen and experienced, I would have to agree with her assessment.
Thank you SO much to todays medical advice person! I’m currently dealing with my first case of Ich, and called the wet spot to see if they had any treatment in stock. The employee over the phone was so helpful, and suggested I take a photo/video of my fish so they could confirm my fishes ailment, and to better suggest treatment. When I showed up a few hours later, I was quickly greeted and connected with the medical advice personnel. Not only did they have everything I needed to treat my fish, the person helping me wrote out a detailed instruction on how I should treat my fish. I felt supported, and genuinely cared for here. My animals are able to live a happier life because I can rely on these people to help me give that to them.
This is my go-to store for all my aquarium needs. Knowledgeable friendly staff, amazing variety of fish, plants and supplies. Make sure to hit them up on their anniversary sale for some amazing deals. 6/14/22 - I want to pop in a shout out to the entire team who assisted me with my odd rock issue I experienced in my fish tank. The cashier was super helpful and hilarious. A big thank you to the manager who assisted me as well, the guy who tested my water parameters and (as you can tell, I am horrible with names) to the guy with the blue hair who helped me with plants - you rock. Thank you for your expertise and superb customer service (everyone) there's a reason why I keep coming back!
I used the website to order as I'm not in the state where the store is located. Shipping is kind of pricey but the quality of fish that you receive is worth it. As for prices of the fish they are generally not too pricey compared with other sites/stores. I've put my self on the emailing list for one of the fish I have been looking for, which were brown tail pencilfish. When I received the email I immediately jumped to order them. They were very good at communicating with me on my order. And when I received my fish, they were all healthy on arrival and have acclimated to my water parameters. I will definitely order from them again and recommend buying from them!
I have a lot of anxiety with ordering fish online because I don’t do it very much. But this place had the “rare”-ish fish I was looking for, so I went for it. I can’t say enough good things about the experience. The fish, even as tiny as they were, came in perfect shape. Sunken bellies of course which is typical for shipping for the safety of the fish. But they were ALL (20+) immediately very active in the tank and readily took to food that night. Not only did I not have a single loss, but there was nay a fish I was even WORRIED I would lose. If you wanted a review to tell you whether or not you should order online from them, here it is. They’re fantastic.
My view of this Wet Spot is. If you are into fish and everything needed then this spot is for you. I could go into debt big time. Not wanting to come out of retirement so I could afford my new hobby I'll keep myself under control. What a fun place to work. The employees are Super friendly. They enjoy their jobs. Why wouldn't they? The store is very appealing to the eyes. It's clean and well stalked. I came in to donate two big goldfish that grew too big for my puffer to eat. They gladly took them and added them to a tank that already had some as big and bigger. Thanks again Wet Spot ya'll rock. Sv Rhiannon ❤️☮️~☠️
This store is great with a large selection of fish and products! I docked one star because prices on some items are really expensive and can be found a lot cheaper other places. Location is also not ideal, with parking being a challenge especially being next to the Saturday market. And lastly, it’s a really tight space for how much stuff/fish/customers they have. I think wet spot need to look into relocating, hopefully in a nicer area, a larger building with designated parking and perhaps closer to Vancouver since there is no local fish store there. If wet spot replaced petsmart at cascade station that would be the best!
This place is amazing. I could spend hours browsing the rows and rows of wonderful fish. Aside from the selection of fish and aquarium equipment, the Wet Spot is a great educational resource for someone building an aquarium. Asher has been helping build my blackwater 20 long for a couple of months now. His knowledge has made sure that I am successful in my hobby so that I am happy, and more importantly, my fish are healthy. Sometimes that means telling me something I don’t want to hear, but in the long run I’m glad I took his advice. As long as employees like him continue to work there, I’ll be sure to keep coming back.
TWS is such an amazing fish store. I’ve ordered online from them a few times now and the quality and selection is nothing short of amazing. You’ll find the rarest of the rare fish here. The fish are always bagged and boxed properly, and I appreciate the fact that they add poly filter to the fish bags. This is especially useful for fish that emit toxins like corydoras. One recommendation I do have for them though is that it would be helpful to include how many of each fish type is in stock at any given time on their website. I think a lot of people would love that. Overall, such a great source for good quality fish.
Hey Guys, I got to say you did a Great Job!! You are a Top Notch outfit!! From the order process to the release of the fish into the tank was an Amazing experience! Professionally Packaged and Super Fast and Reasonably priced Shipping! Even your Bags are top notch, they make it so easy to release the fish without the second bag collapsing and trapping the Fish! The Fish were AAA top Quality! All made it healthy and lively! They all hit the food within 10 minutes of emptying the last bag of fish! It was like a Piranha feeding Frenzy! I'm so happy and I'm already putting together another order! Thanks so much! Joe
Such a fantastic store! I’m very into the hobby and have been for almost a year now, so the first thing of note walking in is how GOOD it smells! It has all of the best parts of the fish smell and makes me break out in a grin every time! I could spend hours looking in their tanks, and this week was my first time buying from them! I got seven fish, and they are all super happy and healthy! I also felt very listened to by the gal that helped me out and she answered all of the questions I had and pointing me in such a good direction! So far my favorite fish specialty store that I have been to!
I ordered fish online from The Wet Spot and I was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience. The communication when placing the order was spot on. They arranged and confirmed a shipping date with me and gave me easy instructions on payment. The fish arrived on the arranged date in immaculate condition. The packaging was secure and the heat packs were still warm. There were no leaks in the bags and no DOA's with the fish. The fish were as specified and have been adapting well to their new home. I will definitely be returning to them for all of my future online fish purchases.
Got about 40 fish from these folks after a lot of research. It was my first time getting fish shipped aside from a couple shrimp so I was fairly nervous but they were quick in answering all my questions by email and I even called them and spoke to a really helpful guy in their team. Everything I got from them is healthy outside of a little scrape on one swordtail, but I'm hopeful he'll heal up. I was even able to get a somewhat rare type of swordtail from them so I was very pleased. Overall They were excellent to work with and I will be purchasing from them again I'm sure.
Awesome I ordered a Long fin red bushy nose pleco Amano shrimp and croaking gourami’s They arrived healthy accept 1 shrimp died. The pleco is lively and out front n center which is great. I like that they take pride in quarantine. I am excited for the C guarami’s I have admired them from watching Fu the Flowerhorn and they are exactly what I want. I have a fish room and kept Bettas so I am comfortable they will thrive and I can’t wait to hear them croak I like that they provide lil plant and sponge with beneficial bacteria. They care and it shows
It was my first time purchasing a fish online and I am very happy to say The Wet Spot made the whole process smooth and seamless. I have no intent to purchase online from anyone else, they made me wish I lived in Portland Oregon. The Wet Spot is extremely knowledgeable and never made me feel like they were just trying to get my money. I have experienced that, my belief is that in the fish hobby that should never be the case. My intent is to use the Wet Spot for my future aquatics needs thank you and your staff so very much!!!
You probably wont find a better fish/aquarium store in Oregon. Unfortunately when I was there I was hoping to ask a couple questions and look around a bit and neither was really possible since the customer to employee ratio seemed around 7-8 to 1 at the time. Judging by what I saw I would guess if its an aquarium related item be it hardware or stocking related they have you covered or can point in the right direction, but if you are going to require assistance you may want to call ahead and see if they are crowded
I can only speak to my experience ordering online, and it surpassed my expectations. Shipping cost was reasonable (whatever agreement they have with UPS is both efficient and cost-effective), and the quality of the fish they shipped was exceptionally high. The were colorful, healthy, and vigorous. Communication was also top-notch. I knew what was happening every step of the way, and when I emailed with a question, I got an answer back usually within a few hours. I will definitely be purchasing from here again.
My initial experience shopping here was good - we were moving an established aquarium and the woman behind the counter was very helpful with advice about the chemicals and tools we could use to rehabilitate our water. Unfortunately she recommended a hand pump and siphon that worked very poorly for us, it was easier to use mouth suction, and when I went to return the bad pump a teenager in glasses took it to the back room and came back later saying he'd made it work just fine and there would be no refund.
Ordered online for some fish from this store. I was more than surprised at how friendly the staff were. I was advised ahead of time that some fish I ordered were not in stock, so they changed out the fish for another fish at my request. Then packed them so well that there were no losses during shipping. A fabulous first experience and the selection they offer is better than any other place I've looked at! I was able to find some Silver Kuhli loaches that I have not seen available anywhere else!
I don't know anything about fish. We gave our son a Betta from here and it recently passed away after three years. We decided to reuse the "micro" tank (3 gallons) and have a variety of fish. The staff was busy, but very friendly and knowledgeable. I left feeling confident we could get the tank up and running again. I have no idea if the prices were good, but they seemed fair and I certainly didn't feel ripped off at all. The collection looks impressive to me. TLDR: I'd recommend them.
I ordered two dozen small fish from this store and had them shipped to northern Utah in the dead of winter. I was sure that at least a few would die in transit given my prior experiences with buying fish online, but every last fish arrived alive and healthy after their 700+ mile journey. I’m extremely impressed with the care taken by this store to ensure the safety and quality of their fish. They have a fantastic selection as well. Will definitely be buying from here in the future.
I ordered two Apistogramma Borellii from the Wet Spot last week. The transaction was fast and easy prices are great plus they have a huge variety. I was a little worried about shipping fish (this was my first time) but they showed up healthy and happy. I'm very happy with the whole process and will definitely be ordering more fish from them in the near future! Thank you so much The Wet Spot!!! They really are beautiful fish and I'm very excited to watch them grow!!
My profession is in aquaculture and fisheries. I am a ornamental fish hobbyist with 40 years experience. I recently purchased a large shipment of freshwater fish that was flown across country. The online team selected, packed, and shipped the fish with great care. All the fish arrived alive and in great condition. Fish acclimated extremely well to my tanks and are excellent quality and sized appropriately. I would highly recommend Wet Spot Tropical Fish.
This was my first time ordering fish online so I was really nervous but TWS did an INCREDIBLE job! They were packaged extremely well and arrived on time! They were active as soon as I opened the box and became even more active after acclimating and being added! The customer service is great and they keep you informed, updating you asap. I will definitely only be using this business for my online live fish orders! Thank you so much!!
Decent place to go if you don't know any better. After gaining experience you're better off going to cayes or CBS. Especially since wet spot claims they give 24hour guarantee but when I bought a school of rasporas that pretty much instantly died they refused to refund me after I offered to take my water in. My account with them has probably over 2 grand spent with them. Such a shame to lose my business over $10 or $15 in fish
I have ordered online from these folks 5 or 6 times now and the fish have arrived on time, healthy, and as promised every time. Most recently I ordered a Yellow Titanic and they even sent me a picture of the fish because it had some minor damage on it's fins and they wanted to confirm I was still interested. I appreciate that they went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. Will definitely continue to order from them!!
We were extremely happy with our fishy purchase through The Wet Spot’s online store. Their communication was stellar, making sure we knew exactly when our fish would arrive before they shipped. And, I have never ordered from an online fish store that had so much extra attention to detail when packaging the little guys for transport. The whole experience was about TLC for the little guys…’much appreciated! Thank you!
Fast costumer service, I made my order via email and was surprised they had everything I wanted to order. This was the second time ordering from wetspot both times I bought bichir's and more. I will order again if they have something I want. I live in Utah so the fish were shipped overnight and are in great condition. so far I have not had a DOA. Also they are great eaters and have started growing.
Upon entering into the wet spot I was absolutely blown away! The fish tanks are all in absolute perfect condition. I wanted 2 of everything and one of everything else that I seen. The staff are amazing and vey helpful. I am a lifelong customer. The one problem is that the fish are so healthy that once you fill one tank you end up with more. Im currently on tank 3 a 55 gallon.
Have ordered live fish many times from The Wet Spot in the past 8 years. Always well packed with zero D.O.A and this most recent purchase was no different. Their customer service is responsive, helpful and friendly. Solid team always does a great job. I do wish they went back to their old style of weekly stock list - it was easier to track what was in stock before they changed the format.
I purchased a few hockey stick pencil fish from the Wetspot a few years ago. Well packaged and fish were healthy. Last week ordered 3 Blackline Pipefish and they arrived the exact same way my previous order well packaged. The Pipefish are doing well so far. I also appreciate them telling the customer what the fish were eating prior to ordering. As a hobbyist that is very important to me.
I was a shipping order. Let me just say I was not disappointed. This was my first time having fish shipped and I would 100% do it again with this store. Everyone arrived alive, well bagged, and well insulated, which is important for cold Nebraska winters. They communicated just as their website said and I couldn't be happier. Picture is of a Killifish I bought from them in my tank.
The fish arrived super fast and in good health. I was pleased to see the fish were larger than I had expected. The really are beautiful. Excellent experience all around ! Update 11/22/23: I ordered some Pencilfish and some Kamaka Rainbows and they arrived today. They are absolutely gorgeous and much larger than I expected. Thanks again for an awesome experience all around
I have ordered online numerous times and have been blown away by the healthiness and overall quality of the fish. I haven’t lost a single fish out of the 4 or 5 orders of fish I’ve received over the last 2 years. By far the best selection of fish anywhere in the USA. Fish are packaged well and with care. Will always look at The Wet Spot first for any of my fish needs.
It's been around 20 years since I've ordered fish online, usually with a lot of hit or miss. I just started getting back into the hobby and wanted to do a tank with Amazon Puffers. The puffers are healthy. No sunken stomachs, no clamped tails, etc. The are eating like champs and they all have big round bellies full of bloodworms. I'll be ordering from them again.
This place is amazing. The employees will always take the time to answers questions and educate you on the fish you are looking at buying. This has saved me so much trouble once I am home with my new fish, not to mention saved me a bunch of money from buying the wrong items. Over all I HIGHLY recommend this place for your needs when it comes to your fish friends.
A lot and a lot of live plants. Price is a little bit pricey but they do have a big selection. Employees there are friendly not demanding or persuasive. They have a total 6 isles loaded with only fish tank. The display fish tank are super vibrant. It is a wheelchair accessible. Easy to find parking lot. Will definitely keep on going until they mistreated me.
I'm here way too often, but this is definitely the best spot for aquarium related things. The staff is super knowledgeable, and they can help build a hardscape. The fish/invertebrates are all super healthy and well cared for. Literally the only downside is that it can get VERY busy; and for a socially anxious person like me it can be a little overwhelming.
Experience was great. We wanted to get some new fish for our established tank. One of the employees named Anastasia was very helpful and knowledgeable. We ended up getting totally different fish than we planned based on her expertise. We might have put the wrong fish together in our tank and had problems.Very happy with the experience and our new fish.
The staffs are very friendly and patient. In fact, they might have trained their fish to behave well too. The pea puffers I got from them never picked a fight with my resident shrimps. All of them miraculously eating together. (Not that I recommend putting them in with shrimps though, each Pea puffer have different personalities.)
Amazing store! I was exploring fish stores in my area and this one is by far one of the best ones because of their very large selection of not just very happy and healthy fish but also hard scaling materials and decor! Overall a fantastic place to shop! Will definitely come back here for some outstanding rocks for my tank …
Wet Spot is hands down the best place to find freshwater fish in Portland. They have a fantastic selection of fish (especially cichlids), aquatic plants, knowledgeable staff, and good pricing. Whether you’re looking for a bio balanced nano tank or a tank full of African Cichlids, The Wet Spit will have what you’re looking for!
One of the only places I've seen Xenotilapia Bathyphilus for sale. Placed an order and received excellent customer service from their ordering team all the way through the process. Order processing was quick, and my fish arrived at my door well packaged and healthy. Will absolutely be using The Wet Spot in the future.
There is no better spot in Portland for tropical fish and plants than The Wet Spot. The place is amazing and the service can not be matched. Their employees are knowledgeable and helpful. There is always a line, but their signup list and bell feels more like a tradition than an annoyance. It’s well worth the wait.
Selection incomparable to anyone else's, supplies out the yin yang, and beautiful displays. Staff run the gambit between overly helpful to annoyed you even came in. The owner and his wife are notorious in the aquarium community for being jerks. But that being said, one of the better fish places in town.
Great experience ordering fish online. The Wet Spot online sales department is awesome. I love that you can call and talk to them on the phone. They are quick to respond to email as well. Shipping was overnight - very quick. The fish arrived happy and healthy. Couldn't have been a better experience.
Excellent, fast, online service, caring and understanding physical service, very cautious and mindful of the pandemic with their policies I've gotten over 100 fish from them, only two DOAs with online purchases because of bad weather. Very high quality fish, I have a few of them breeding right now.
The fish are fairly priced, especially considering they are a local business with chain competitors. The plants are quality and the workers are kind. If you are confused, they are more than happy to answer questions. Lovely show tanks and fish I have bought here live when I'm not making mistakes.
The selection of different types of fish/plants here is outstanding. Far better than anything else in the area. Wet Spot has a ton of selections of fish, tanks, plants, lights, etc. This is a great place to come if you are wanting some fish or if you just love to look, they are all on display.
I think place rocks..super cool fish. Cheaper on things. Renee totally turned me on to a new CO2 tank. Made the move. Even though they don't sale Axolotls they helped me out with some knowledge regarding them! salaxole Axolotls they kthings to help me out. I have a 55 gallon. 2 30 gallon Andy
The Wet Spot is terrible! They sent me 5 Jurupari completely covered in ''Black spot disease''. I contacted them and she said, ''oh well, they are wild caught and you should have read the terms and conditions before ordering, there is nothing i can do.''
Terrible customer service paired with them not supporting the products they sell you. I’ll just order online from ada. I’ve spent thousands with these people and they are just the rudest group of folks you could ever wait an hour to get any from.
Today 5 of powder blue dwarf gourami female arrived I really love it. Definitely I will buy fish again from this place!! Great service and one day ship to Houston fishes are without sicks or ill, they're happily eating all the food in my tank!
Disregard any bad reviews, this place has amazing service and high quality fish, I have bought around 120 fish from them so far with no issues. Very wide selection of rare and uncommon fish that they only sell to you in the best condition.
Quality selection of freshwater fish, by far the best in the area. Lots of species that are hard to find elsewhere. Small/bookshelf aquariums and big selection of live plants. Worth coming in to look even if you're not a fishkeeper.
Went in for the first time today, I was amazed at how big their selection was. The guy who helped me was very helpful and patient. As I am a very indecisive person lol. Will definitely be going back and recommending to others!
The staff is friendly and professional. The store is well-stocked. Make sure you put your name on the list to be helped as soon as you arrive. Got my first super red bristlenose from the wet spot! Singapore shrimp are rad!
Great selection of fish. Lots of discus choices. Staff and other customers were very knowledgeable. They were pretty busy and I was in a rush and live out of town so I didn't get to buy what I wanted, but still recommend.
Out of 6 online orders the past year and a half, I have never received a DOA or even an unhealthy looking fish. The quality is excellent and their customer service is over the moon - I cannot recommend this place enough!
Just received my fish delivery, pangio shelfordii, packing was outstanding and delivery was earlier then quoted by ups. I've been after this variety for quite awhile and the Wet Spot came thru with flying colors!
I have a feeling I was surrounded by fish geeks. The shrimp are zipping around the tank. Ty for the food info. Even the fish seemed happier to have the shrimp for company. Thanks for your experience and advice.
Great online experience! From start to finish, very communicative and kept in touch to check in after fish arrived. All livestock arrived alive, fat and sassy. Will definitely be a repeat customer...thanks!!
THE WET SPOT IS MY GO TO ! I'm their number one Californian fan! As usual... my nano babies arrived, healthy, happy, accounted for, and adorable! Beautiful specimens, all of them! GRACIAS, WET FOLKS!!!
Beautiful red shoulder severum that was shipped to me in Ohio. Was afraid to open the package because it was a day late do to a problem with the ups facility. Was packaged great and she is doing fine.
The staff is super helpful, and knowledgeable about the fish and other products they carry. It was relatively calm when we were there, which is refreshing because it is usually very busy on a Friday.
This is a fish store like no other. Fantastic selection of fish, hardscape, and plants, and the employees are super helpful. I always look forward to my Portland fish shopping trips at The Wet Spot!
The Wet Spot is hands down an incredible store. I have been ordering online for many years and never disappointed. Great selection of fish that always arrive healthy and quickly. Highly recommend!
Ordered a female powder blue dwarf gourami and an African ropefish. I live in NY and received my fish in perfect condition. Love the new additions to the tank and would buy from WetSpot again!!!
One of the best places to order live freshwater aquarium fish. I've ordered twice, ZERO doa (36 fish, not ONE casualty!) Reasonable shipping, beautiful, healthy fish! Can't go wrong!
I wouldn't go anywhere else! Best selection, service, health, etc. The staff are very knowledgeable and super patient, even when I don't know or can't decide what fish I want!
Super fast shipping plus the packaging was great. I love the fish I received first they were larger than I expected they would be. Excellent customer service. I will return.
I ordered 8 cichlids that were all 1/2" in size. They all arrived on time, alive ,and healthy! Wet Spot Tropical does a really good job boxing up the fish for shipping!
My favorite place for live aquatic plants! They have an amazing selection of fish and a WONDERFUL staff! Every time I go they're always so kind and helpful!
I’ve had a few orders from The Wet Spot over the years, and they have never disappointed me. I’m so glad you can now order directly from the website.
They are very knowledgeable and had or got me the fish I wanted. I could spend hours in the store. Thanks for the knowledge you shared with me ☺️
Excellent customer service, fast shipping, and high quality fish. I purchased 3" discus, and they are HUGE. Definitely will buy from them again.
Nicest HUGE selection of fish you’ll see anywhere in Portland. Higher than average price but always healthy fish, so I think it’s worth it.
I got 9 shell-dwellers they came within a week and all ALIVE!! They are absolutely beautiful and everything I asked for. Thank you!
Amazing customer service! Ordered fish online and they all allived in great condition! Great communication. Thank you so much!
This is the best fish store in Portland hands down, probably in Oregon period! Reasonable prices my favorite place to go.
It is an absolute pleasure dealing with this business! Amanda and Emily from their Online Sales team are both phenomenal!
