Turnbull's car rental have a terrible coverage policy and even worse customer service. I specifically asked about damage cover when I picked up the rental because driving on motorways can sometimes have stray rocks hit windscreens or the car and cause nicks or dents, or if someone opens a door in a neighbouring vehicle while parked and dents your car I didn't want to be liable for damage. On the day I picked up the rental the rep at Turnbull's carhire promised I would be covered for basics such as these and if I took out the Collision Damage waiver I would only be liable for damage to the car if I was at fault in an accident and even then would only be liable for damages up to $400. I checked my credit card statement several days later to find a $300 charge on it from Turnbulls car hire. I rang thinking this was a mix up and they said that it was from damage to the car but had no further information. I had to chase them by phone and email several times over a couple weeks between work travel. I called back after emailing several times and it turns out there was a scratch on the door which must have been from a stray rock (it took them over two weeks to find the photos of the scratch). Turnbulls HIre claim they told my partner about the damage when he went to retrieve my sunglasses after we returned the car. Turnbull's car rentals explained that they showed him the damage and asked if they could charge my card and then took $300 for damage that I was verbally told was covered. Turnbull's car hire actually informed someone who was NOT the cardholder or the signatory on all of the forms about the damage, explained that they were charging MY CREDIT CARD and never bothered to notify me, the actual CARDHOLDER about the charges or damages. My partner hadn't mentioned it as we were on separate flights and I was away on business travel for a week after. But it isn't his job to tell me that Turnbull car hire was charging my credit card for damages I was unaware of, it is Turnbull's job to notify me by phone or email or letter or anything. I never received an email or text or call from anyone at Turnbull car rentals about this charge. Had I not checked my credit card statement I would have never known about the charge. I have been disputing this charge ever since as I was told it was covered by a Turnbull employee on the day of pick up and then come to find out several days after I drop off the vehicle in what I thought was perfect condition Turnbull have charged me for something I was told would be covered and even paid additional money to cover it. Had I been informed what their basic and collision insurance ACTUALLY covered (Nothing it would seem), I would never have rented through Turnbull's car hire as this is usually a standard coverage. Or it has been historically with every other car rental company I have ever used in Australia, US, UK, Singapore, Ireland, etc. I was never given any documentation about what wouldn't be covered. Instead, Turnbulls car hire sent me over the coverage summary AFTER charging my credit card $300 for damage I was unaware of and thought would be covered which didn't really address the problem where I paid the extra for insurance cover and was assured by their staff that I was covered for these things. I was shocked and disturbed that a professional organisation would tell someone who is NOT the card holder or the signatory on all of the documentation about charging MY CREDIT CARD for damages and then never follow up with any notice whatsoever. Turnbulls hire refused to refund any money charged, never bothered to notify me of the damage or the charge they made to my credit card. The entire experience with Turnbulls has been a nightmare. Turn bull's hire sold me extra insurance cover under false pretences, misrepresented their basic insurance coverage, notified someone who wasn't ME about charging MY CREDIT CARD and never bothered to inform me about the charges through phone or email and have refused any refunds. They are horrible to deal with and I will never rent from them again.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE—DO NOT RENT WITH THIS AWFUL COMPANY! I’ve traveled the world for the last 4 years and dealing with this company has been the worst experience of all. A car in front of us crashed into us by making an illegal u-turn on the Great Ocean Road. As soon as we got out of the car, we did everything right— called the police (they refused to come out as no one was injured, which is appalling), then we called the rental company 3 times to make sure we did the right protocol as the car was damaged in the front. They convinced us it would be fine if we got the other driver’s details, so we did that. We returned the car to the Melbourne office, where two ladies again CONVINCED us that we would get our money ($500 deposit) back within 2-3 weeks — that was in APRIL! After a few calls over the next month or two, we realized we’d never see that money again, as they told us that the driver who hit us changed his testimony and said we hit him. And, ONE MONTH later, they told us we should contact Expedia for the car insurance claim. That’s right, this was the first time we heard that. Expedia couldn’t accept the claim because we didn’t have a police report. Unbelievable! Okay, we accepted we wouldn’t get the deposit money back. But yesterday, 4,5 MONTHS after the accident, my partner’s card got charged $1,500 by the rental company! So, -$2,000 down later, for an accident we didn’t cause, we can wholeheartedly advise you: DO NOT RENT A CAR WITH THIS ABSOLUTE SCAM OF A COMPANY if your money matters to you. I’ve never experienced such terrible service anywhere in the world. Someone should get fired over this—for blatanly lying to your customers who trusted you. You don’t even deserve a one star rating, that’s how bad you are!

Small, independent operator. The Turnbull's brand is well known. The small car hire was fit for purpose. Staff really nice. The Tullamarine branch is an offsite location about 10 minutes from the airport. Shuttle bus has a fee per trip and you must call to be picked up. Communication was good. Having hired cars for years, I reviewed paperwork before heading out. Experience had me buy day passes for the Freeway tolls, and all the usual check the car before departing etc. I emailed once due to advising the side mirror was broken. Again communication good, and they were very nice about it. I had insurance. Comparatively speaking, just after the international borders opened up to get into melbourne, the price was the best it could be, affordable and within my expectations. What I did learn from this extended LA to MELB trip is that off-airport site car rental is a must from now on - - plan ahead for it - have the phone number for shuttle pick-up already in your contacts - know where the pickup lane is located - Expect a very small satellite industrial location and small front desk - Know how to buy a freeway Toll pass online so that you are covered - Take photos of the car at pickup from all sides as per usual practice - Ask for the best email and phone number if you need help Great experience. I would use Turnbulls Hire again.

After hiring a car from the Turnbulls hire Melbourne branch. I would recommend people to steer clear of this company. Unfortunately for us, we booked via a third party website not knowing what we were getting ourselves into. Upon arrival we were charged above the quoted price. We were then charged a total of $16 for the transport to and from the airport although as advertised the shuttle bus would be free of charge. Our real problem came the day of return. At 9:30am we called the office asking wether or not we could keep the car for an extra hour or two and if it would incur an extra charge. We were told no, that our car would not be leaving the shop floor so it wouldn’t be a problem. We dropped the car back at 1:30pm. A week later we were charged $109.31 from the credit card.. after 10+ phone calls, numerous emails and no answers today (3 weeks later) that we would only be refunded $45.12 due to the fact we were charged another whole day hire.

Manu, their representative, was thorough in providing all the necessary details and ensured we had everything we needed. Even though we returned the car earlier than expected on a Sunday, their dedicated team was just superb. Despite the office being closed, The shuttle bus arrived within 5-10 minutes of our call to take us to the airport, and the driver provided outstanding service. Their commitment to customer service is truly unparalleled. The car was in excellent condition and well-maintained. Their prices are incredibly competitive compared to larger companies. You get an outstanding car at a great price. It’s always a pleasure to support local Australian businesses like this one. I will definitely rent a car from Turnbull again!!

Turnbulls hire is a BIG LIAR. I return the van in a good condition and haven't hear anything back from them. After a week , I email them to chase up my deposit, they advised i damaged the van and not getting my $1,000 deposit back. They show me the video which is they can;t prove anything. And I am still waiting for their response on the refund of my deposit. NEVER EVER RENT FROM them, they are a BIG SCAMMER. 25/07 - yup and you start reply to my email after i log a complain through consumer affair. And the video that you sent me only record the side view, which not showing that your roof already damaged when i picked it up, but when i asked for the refund for my deposit , you emailed me with the top view for the van, totally different story when i rent it. Just hope you have a good sleep and life with my $1,000 that you scammed off.

I am writing this review almost a year after what happen with these guys. November last year I rented a truck and returned after hours in their Tullamarine depot. I put the keys in the after hours box, next thing I knew about the truck (24 hours after I returned) was that got stolen from their depot. They immediately deducted $1000 from my credit card. When trying to get and explanation, all they said was they couldn't give any information about the matter as it was in the police hands now. Police never contact me though. Their insurance investivator contact me and asked several questions about the matter, but after 11 months, neither them or the insurance haven't contacted me to explain anything, they just took the money and that's it. Please avoid hiring from this company as they will rip you off.

Hidden Charges!!!! Beware!!!! They give you lower cost, but then charge you with 16 bucks shuttle transportation. Although they dont say anything about it in Expedia, their text confirmation etc. This is a way to win the price lists in third party search engines!!! This is so unprofessional and naive and also old!!!! I was told other companies do the same, but I asked atlas company the woman working there smiled and said we never charge for this. Also I could get much better price (almost half) in a same day. You said this happened before for another customer, so do yourself a favour and update your prices in your website and terms and condition or you do it on purpose. Stay away and get your car from other companies like Atlas etc, that's why there is a line in there but no one's in your office!!!!

Horrible customer service, steal your money, not timely whatsoever. I returned the car 11 days ago and still have not received my security deposit back. I enquired on 27/4 and was told it had been issued that morning. After STILL not receiving it by 2/5 I called again. I was then told a different story that “it was issued on Friday 29/4”. Sus business. I was also charged the cost for shuttle transfer which I did not use and that hasn’t been refunded yet either. They were however very quick to charge my card for the tolls after returning it (a fair charge, but if you can charge that in 1 day then where is my deposit??) I suggest going with a company that is more efficient and will actually refund your $500 security deposit.

the worst or rental experience ever. unclear directions and long wait time for pickup. then they were trying to charge me a different price from what I had agreed with Expedia. luckily I had the Expedia confirmation with me. the car was OK another time I had booked through their web site and then got a message they had no cars available. then I booked through Expedia, got a confirmation from Expedia, and later a decline from Turnbull saying they have no cars available. they seem to be very seriously disorganized and their booking system doesn't reflect what they can actually offer. or are trying to up the prices I can only recommend to stay away from Turnbull Melbourne airport

I booked from overseas, and wanted a reliable and practical car for over a week of skiing in Mt Buller and Mt Perisher. Friendly and helpful staff, with efficient pickup and drop-off. The car was very well maintained, and new model Rav4. Plenty of room for skiis and snowboards.Good fuel economy on our interstate highway and mountain road travel. The airport pickup was easy and convenient, and the pre-rental documentation clearly explained what I needed to do and what charges were due. Drop-off to the convenient rental base was easy, and bus transfer was immediate, and just 10 mins transfer to airport. I will definitely use Turnbulls Hire on my next visit.

First off I feel that I was ripped off when booking . Quoted a price and then charged nearly 50 percent more . This is because the quote was in American $$$? Wrong ... should use an Aussie website. When I returned the vehicle , which was adequate. I found the premises to be unattended. I waited 25 minutes and found that there was no apologies except that the attendant was working alone ( not my problem ) I made it to my flight with 3 minutes to spare after exiting the van at the crossing and rushing to make my flight . It wasn’t cheap compared to other car rental businesses and the experience is one I will never not recommend or ever use again.

Shoutout to Susie, the absolutely fantastic staff member running the Tullamarine office. She was so helpful and went out of her way to sort out a timing issue that was actually our mistake, just so we weren't left hanging. She did it all with a huge smile and was so warm and helpful, while also being efficient and very clear with info. Susie's great service completely set the tone for a fantastic, much needed weekend break for our family, after a hectic getaway. We'll go straight to Turnbulls Hire for our next trip, without a doubt. Thank you Susie! You're a gem!

Car was a downgrade from what I had booked, a Yaris not a "Carolla" the "or similar" usually means an upgrade to a larger car if what you have booked is not available in my experience - not a smaller one! However it was clean and well presented. Staff responded appropriately, but seemed rather slow, when an unfortunate accident meant we were left on the side of the M3 for nearly 3 hours on a wet Friday night :( Towing company contacted me on Wednesday to ask about collecting the car, when tow company details were supplied on Monday to Turnbull's

Had a good experience with Turnbulls after having difficulty with availability with better known hire companies. Pick-up from airport was efficient. Process of hire was efficient with video of car provided. They do debit your Credit Card a ($500) bond in our case. This was refunded without issue within 4 days of return of the car. Return was efficient - they even waited a short while as were later than we had planned. Transport back to the airport was efficient. Only trouble we had was finding somewhere close to re-fill the car with petrol.

This is was first time I have used Turnbulls Hire and I was a little apprehensive as it was off site but the shuttle bus was prompt the staff super friendly and helpful. The car was great they went over it thoroughly with me to identify any marks, dents etc which were very minor but best of all it was very affordable. I hired the 12 seater Hiace, the location and hours of operation was very convenient for me...nice staff and explained clearly about the vehicle.. It was spacious vehicle and easy to drive..equipped with reverse camera so no hassle in parking and fits in the normal car park slot(but exactly fits in it) The vehicle wheels were pulling to side when I was above100km speed..that's the only discomfort I faced other than that all good..

The worst rent company!! Dont go there and Please do not use their service! They are liars and they stole us 200$! Maybe they are the cheapest, but after you will leave they wont refound you the bond and they will just make up some excuse and steal your mone! And after you will try talk with them on the phone- they will laugh and hang up the phone in your face!! Please avoid them, they will rip you off! They are stealer!

Do not use this company, they will rip you off. They charged me $1.90 a litre for petrol plus $10 extra to take it to a petrol station to fill it up. While this is not illegal, they didn't disclose to me at any time of my hire that this is their normal practice. They didn't even tell me to bring the car back full of petrol or this is what they charge. You are better off to go with a well known reputable company.

Very good service: the Toyota Troop Carrier was delivered for free to my house (we were renting the car for 4 days) and already half a day before the actual booking! Also the customer service was great as they answered all my questions (about the equipment of the car etc.) and did not hesitate to give me a call to clarify certain details. Highly recommended!!

At the moment of my accident, I call both police and this rental company and didn't give me any guideline to proceed with proof/claim of the accident. POOR SERVICE as well.

Hired the KTM 300exc, was very surprised to find a company that rents the dirt bikes. I had an awesome time with it, was very easy to organise and the lady at the Tullamarine factory was super nice. Gonna rent the 4 stroke next time. Thankyou Turnbulls was really good to see a company renting dirt bikes.

Car was well maintained and clean, and very reasonably priced compared to local competition. Staff were friendly and efficient. They picked me and up and dropped me off to the airport quickly so there wasn't an unnecessary hanging around. Cheers guys, would happily use your company again in the future :)

Great experience with Turnbull's Melbourne Airport. Hired a Toyota 12 seater bus with a trailer which worked flawlessly and had great fuel economy. Staff at this location were friendly, helpful and quick in configuring a trailer for our use. Would hire from Turnbull's again in the future.

The people who work here are so nice! I was having trouble getting my bank sorted, and they were very patient and kind, even letting me use a portable charger for my phone. The car is perfect for my needs. Will definitely use again (but I'll make doubly sure I'm set on my end!).

From the first contact some months earlier to getting the vehicle the whole process has been conducted professionally and personally. Our pick up at the Airport was simple, the vehicle itself excellent will certainly use Turnbulls hire for any other vehicle needs in Victoria.

Booked online hired a car for AROUND $42.00 a day for 5 days. When i got there they had no cars so i had to drive around in a massive 4WD Land Cruiser. It also cost me for 5 days was $497.50 so that's roughly $100 dollars a day. (READ THE SMALL PRINT). Very unprofessional.

Fantastic service from start to finish. Booking process was super easy and the staff adjusted to some changes I needed to make with ease. Furniture truck was ready for me on arrival and the process was super smooth. Great option if you are looking to move yourself.

Great service and good price. The car I rented was really good. Unfortunately their hours are quite limited and they don't actually pick you up after hours and you need to make your way to their depot from the airport. For the rest, I will say is excellent.

Ridiculous customer service. Called 10 times just to get a explanation for a credit card charge. Got charged for a full day after returning the car 1.5 hours late AFTER being informed that no late fee would occur. Wouldn't recommend.
