I am a regular and I love the store. I'm Italian and I am used to buy my vegetables in my local market and everything was coming from around town and was only seasonal – tomatoes from mid June to September and was it – so I am very please to buy from them. The reason I didn't give the five stars is because there is one thing I don't get, and that's why they have product from far far away. For instance, a lot of the legumes are from China, which means it produces a lot of pollution to make the beans travel from China to UK. Sometimes fruit comes from Argentina or Chile. Food have always travelled, but why buying from China or South America when there are closer producers in Europe? (Not to mention the fact that China is not a champion in respecting Human Rights). I immagine Unicorn has its reason and I am not looking for an explanation – I will keep buying my food here, but will keep choosing nothing from out of Europe.

This is a great, cooperative vegan grocers. The vegetable selection is excellent, and aims to source products locally to reduce seed miles. There is even a good selection of vegan cheese (including blue and goat style), which are produced locally from cashew nuts. Some of the products can be dispensed into existing containers or packets to reduce plastic waste. A lot of the packaging used is biodegradable. They have rules around what they will sell, which means that they don’t have products like honey, but where possible there is always an alternative. I’ve been shopping here for 15 years now and I love the range of products I can buy here. There’s a great range of eco friendly personal hygiene and cleaning products. Because it is a cooperative, the staff are all invested and incredibly helpful and friendly.

What a fabulous place!! Recommended to visit here for all things organic and we weren't disappointed. Well worth the 30 minute travel time. A very well laid out store, all organic fruit and vegetables incredibly fresh and attractive to browse and buy when you first walk in. Away from the fresh veg the rest of the store is spacious and all products are inviting from bread to wine to nuts seeds and flour to name just a few Above all, lovely staff to discuss individual requirements with We will be back

Unicorn Grocery it's my new favourite place, felt like a kid in a candy store. Thought things were way more expensive, it's not the case though. Some are, others aren't. Was delighted to find raw turmeric, lavender and real cinnamon, among other things. Amazing products and values. Although most of the staff didn't look as friendly as I was expecting, it was a great experience overall.

This is a workers cooperative with a lot of great vegetables plus good general grocery. As far as possible everything is local, and veg clearly labelled with origin. It's the sort of vegetable selection that makes you hungry! Great selection of non-meat foods, plus lots of ethical consumables. Good booze selection too! Highly recommended; worth a visit even if you don't need anything!

Our first time here. Loved everything about it! It smelled fresh and healthy. Gorgeous produce. Vegan toiletries, snacks, tea/coffee, beer/wine, food ready to eat and lots of food ready to cook/bake/gobble! We got soap, teeny toothbrushes, lemons, potato salad and tofu noodles. Can hardly wait to return! Excellent, clear, clean packaging and pricing! Returned repeatedly.

This place is absolutely amazing! The products are a high quality and so delicious! We drive over to this place every week for our food shop. Always grab a soup and a roll too as a treat! The staff are super friendly and helpful too. Please come to this amazing market and support the Unicorn. I wish they’d open another store nearer me!

First time here, overall friendly experience. Fruit and veg where out of this world… I just love the fact there is an organic groceries. 1 down side is that the cashier was abit depressing to deal with or she just didn’t like me or the fact I was new and not sure how things worked. Oh well I’ll be back for the produce non the less.

Spectacular range of products, with friendly & helpful staff. Local and organic produce available, stocks 'harder to find' chilled and ambient foods, home and personal care items, freshly made and deli section. Future friendly shop with fantastic ethics, what's more it's completely vegan!

  • Jacek Jedrowiak

I love shopping in Unicorn. It's always great experience to walk through the main alley with all the fresh veg and fruits surrounding you. Yes, the price is a bit premium. But it's always delicious too, and I love it. Look how happy it makes my partner after we leave with fresh greens!

The Unicorn grocery is a special store. The store is owned by the workers. They prioritise and promote fresh produce with lower food miles, and support new producers close to home. It is very well attended and you'll not be disappointed with the quality and flavour of the produce.

  • Erin H.E

I always love going to Unicorn All of the vegetables are fresh and well grown; somewhere I can always trust to provide good quality and tasty food. The hummus in particular is something I always rave about, it is by far one of the most creamy and smooth hummus you may ever eat.

  • Mothiur Rahman

Very good - in terms of their fresh fruits & vegetables, which are not expensive and are organically grown. However if you want to shop more on the deli counter and shelf-stored foods, it seems a bit expensive, as it’s organic and so definitely worth buying some items.

  • Arun Natarajan

A fantastic place for those special foods you can't find in your regular supermarket. A very thoughtful process goes into the procurement of these special foods. Hey! I found my first non wheat bread here & it can actually taste great! & it's without carbs too!

  • Lu Miao

Really amazing. Basically a health food ethical supermarket. Only not 5 stars because they lack some of the products of the other health food shops in Manchester but their fresh produce selection especially is amazing and they have delicious snacks.

The best place for any type of nut. The roasted peanuts are my favourite. This place is really good for any organic, vegan or fresh produce. Great shop that is the best at what it does. Not found a better organic shop than this especially for nuts.

  • Nerys Johnson

I too was recommended this store and definitely worth it! Accessibility: Good. Car Park: To the side, entrance from a side street. What's There: Good array of foods, drinks, eco products and seeds to grow your own etc Staff: Friendly and helpful.

  • Nigel Cheesebrough

Love this place , could do with more like minded vegan stores. I've decided to edit my comments as after continuing to shop here , I've noticed the decline in the customer service . It seems to me that the staff have forgotten how to smile

  • Jonathan Jarrett

Mostly has great produce which is ethically sourced. There's a couple of things I've learned not to get from here, the one that springs to mind is garlic which seems to very quickly go off (within a week or so). The staff are all fantastic

  • Kevin Bolton

Fantastic food store ... all vegan & the majority organic & so far as possible locally sourced. Some of the seed dispensers allow you to use your own packaging, self-fill and weigh ... to avoid package wastage. Just undergone a refurb to

  • patrice mason

Absolutely love this store, everythings organic and for the most reasonable prices. It's a lot bigger inside that I expected. My mum usually gets alpro milk from Tesco but says the hazelnut and almond is far better from Unicorn Grocery.

  • B

I wish I lived local, but I tram in from the city centre. Well priced organic fruit, veg and other staples- a lot of which are local. Some products are more expensive, but then you're getting what you pay for, and there's a lot that's

  • Tim J

Organic. Quality. Ethical. A great treasure of the Manchester grocery scene. The veg is reasonably priced but some of the other more niche food and drink is expensive. They have fresh bread most days and a range of excellent organic

  • Fauna Graphic

The fresh cooked warm foods are really good value for money, the selection of organic products is really great! The staff are really passionate about the shop, and its ethos.. they are a very welcoming supermarket .

  • June Fisher

You get a nice feeling as soon as you walk in the shop. Everything smells fresh and this is uplifting to your spirit. The layout is carefully thought through and you can experience the love and care all around you.

  • Victuallicious

Great vegan supermarket. Good price for home products however many pricy goods. Nice variety of nuts, dried fruits, flour, and spicies. Good selection of organic fruits and vegetables.

  • Symone Urbanek-Pope

Always a pleasure to shop here. Staff are friendly, fresh organic and vegan produce. A bit pricier than a supermarket and limited parking space, but the quality is worth it.

  • Mark Lindason

The best grocery store hands down. I wish they were an international franchise! Wholefoods, locally grown produce, deli counter, zero waste refill section... Delicious food!
