I love the USPS, and I understand now more than ever is a time of great stress for them. So when my package (shipped 7/15/20, arrived in Seattle 7/18/20) was stuck in "In Transit - Arriving Late" status and several phone calls and missing package claims went unanswered, I visited this branch to find out more information as according to the phone rep, this location was the most recent place my package had been. I visited this afternoon (8/11/2020) about 1:50 pm. I gave the mailperson my tracking number and he came back a few minutes later with a detailed printout of package history. It said that my package arrived at the distribution center in Kent on 7/18/20 and there were no updates afterwards. This is when it went south. I asked if the WAL branch could contact the Kent location to inquire about my package. He said no. I asked if there was a phone number I could call, he said no. I asked if I could get a copy of the history he printed out, he said no, that was against company policy. I asked again if there was anyone I could contact as a next step to find out what happened in Kent; he said no, the Kent location is a processing center and no packages are kept there. I said I understood that packages are not supposed to be kept there, but both of our records showed that as the last known location, so who could I talk to to find out what happened next? He said no one. This went on for several minutes, with me trying to avoid frustrated crying and him getting more and more irritated. He finally snapped - "There is no other person. I am the final person in the chain," and refused again to give me a copy of his tracking history. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a USPS rep and it's all the more frustrating for the rep's complete lack of empathy or willingness to help me problem solve. I will not be using this location for any of its services anymore.
First I just want to say, my bad for thinking USPS could actually be efficient and provide a service that they claim to provide. I ultimately fault myself for having faith in a terribly broken and archaic system. Certainly postal workers are not known for customer service but the experience I just had took it way too far. I came in for a last minute service on Saturday and made it in 10 minutes before closing at 3pm. After waiting in line for 10 minutes I finally got to the counter with 0 time to spare, lucky me I thought! After 20 or so minutes, I’m told they can’t actually help with the service I need because “the clerk who handles it doesn’t work on Saturday's.” I expressed frustration that this was not posted anywhere (online or other) to which the MANAGER said “well if you wouldn’t have waited until the last minute and come in another day we could have helped.” Thankfully I have a lot of willpower, else I would have said a few choice words to her. When customers come in should have no bearing on the service provided. If you have to work later than you’d like some days, well tough that’s just life. To insult a customer when 1) no one expressed upfront the process and why this service would be limited on a weekend 2) the system is so old and broken that there’s a single point of failure with an individual for a corporate service and 3) the fact that service is dependent upon you arriving when is convenient for employees. Not that this review will do anything or else itself to much other than an opportunity for me to vent my frustrations, but others should be wary. You never know what’s happening in someone’s life and to comment on their schedule because they have presumably inconvenienced you is truly the epitome of first world problems. In sum - just pay more and go to ups. At least their staff and services are reliable.
I am writing this as I am Googling the next closest USPS location to me to avoid going to the Wallingford location. This USPS really is bad enough that a longer drive to avoid going here is worth it. Every interaction with a USPS employee here is painful. Even when I do not interact directly with a USPS worker, I witness them being extremely rude and condescending to customers who are doing exactly what they have been instructed to do by the employee. A recent example I saw was an elderly woman who was asked for her ID. She placed it directly in front of the employee and asked how his day was going. His response, "it would be a lot better if you would do what I ask of you!" This is not an isolated incident with one particular employee, it is the vast majority of transactions I have seen or personally experienced at this location. I have had multiple items that I dropped off at this location get lost prior to the initial scan. Packages can be scanned here (if you're patient), however tracked letters that have no way of getting the initial scan may never show as accepted (let alone get delivered) if dropped at this location.
My husband and I were having issues changing our address. We tried the USPS site and it was not helpful really. Our apt has business suites and regular apts, and because of this the site was giving us issues. So I called our local USPS (Wallingford) and spoke with Nadir (I hope I am spelling that correctly). Nadir was extremely sweet and personable and even though it was the beginning of the morn and the office was clearly busy/loud; instead of telling me to come in and refill out the paperwork (which we had already done) Nadir went ahead and helped me resubmit the forms over the phone and got everything taken care of. After reading the reviews I was worried about the experience I was going to have, but it was all for naught. Especially at 9am...bad customer service can either make or break the morning...I had a really positive and great experience and may walk down to the post office just to say thanks in person. Thank you Nadir!
Avoid this post office for your mail needs. Outgoing mail faces delays, and crucial items often arrive late due to issues with upper management, especially the Seattle postmaster, not the carriers themselves. The constant turnover of mail carriers, along with my doorbell camera capturing a carrier being berated by their manager on the phone, highlights the stress mail carriers must deal with on a daily basis. I intend to share this doorbell footage incident on social media soon if I don’t post it, it’s because I want to protect the privacy of that poor mailman. He was clearly going through enough. The unprofessional behavior likely stems from disorganized and unethical management, contributing to the decline of the post office over a decade. While this location may be convenient, consider alternative post offices for really important needs to sidestep the hassles experienced here. There’s been historically years of problems here.
The Wallingford PO supervisor is an absolute saint; John helped track down my wayward package - an item that would be terribly difficult to replace and had somehow been delivered to a random post office box in Issaquah. I've never never lived in Issaquah, and have rarely visited, so I was definitely freaking out (some might say I was a tad operatic - sorry, John! I'd had a glass or two of prosecco that evening!) But working with the folks at the Issaquah PO, John got my package to me in just a few days time (over a weekend, no less!). The package was addressed correctly, so its trip to Issaquah is still a bit of a mystery, but that's okay. The USPS is such an important civic institution and I love having such positive interactions with them - thank you!
What's with the PO Box lobby access hours??? Sure, I understand not keeping it open 24hrs to keep the riff raff out, but locking the doors at 7pm in the evening and then NOT EVEN BEING OPEN ON SUNDAY is beyond ridiculous!!! I work long days and sometimes odd hours and one primary reason I got a PO Box in the first place is so that I could access my mail from a secure location at a time that is more covenient for me and my schedule, such as at 9pm or on a Sunday. This is a service I'm paying for and any individual who has previous experience with a PO Box would expect better access hours. However, this policy is INCREDIBLY UNREASONABLE and I am now seriously considering alternatives to a box at this location.
I really don't want to be mean here but this post office really is not good. A lot of it has to do with the staff. The times I have been there the people working seem to be nice if you are a regular. If, however, you are not and need help, that is another story. I tried to ask questions about how to mail internationally since I have never had to do that and was handed and form and told to go to the back of the line. Filled out the form and when I got to the front was told I missed a section and sent to the back of the line. You get the idea. Unfortunately this has happened to me here before. Whenever I have questions about how I should mail certain packages I always seem to get sent to the back of the line.
This place is the most unprofessional post office branch I've ever used. I recommend using one of the UPS or FedEx branches nearby if at all possible, even if it costs a bit more (it won't, because USPS is overpriced) you'll find it worth it. The clerks that work at the front desk are either dishonest or incompetent, and seem to spend more time dodging questions and upselling than doing anything helpful. On one occasion while I was inside and my fried was waiting outside by the car, we realized the clerk who was supposedly looking for my package for pick-up was actually on a smoke break out back.and this was after waiting a half hour already. Often rude, always slow and overpriced, I avoid this place.
All the other workers for the last 25 years here have been great, especially long-time employee Josh. Now there's an incredibly rude woman at the far right window without a name tag. Very impatient if you have any questions, and begrudgingly gives info only if you ask multiple times. Doesn't seem to matter how polite you try to be. Then, if you complain to her manager, she'll hassle you every time you come in again - very vocally abusive in front of other customers...So much so that another customer in line behind me was concerned and suggested I should talk to the manager! Bummed since this is my neighborhood, and has been my favorite go-to post office in all of Seattle until this week.
This PO branch is so dysfunctional. Staff are friendly and they joke with customers, but they're so slow and inefficient, and they don't know what they're doing because they're so busy chatting. There are lots of staff members too, but they're just wandering around, chatting, and always a minimum of people actually serving customers. Can they please understand I don't go to the post office to socialize - I go there for a service, which they should provide. I'm all for a friendly environment, but not a social event! I simply want the branch to function like a post office and provide a postal service in a friendly, efficient manner. That should be their priority.
Beware: NO SUPERVISOR AT THIS BRANCH WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROBLEM SOLVING WHEN IT INVOLVES THEFT AND FRAUD OF THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE - SUBSTITUTE CARRIER FORGED MY SIGNATURE ON "SIGNATURE REQUIRED" VA MEDICATION PACKAGE, LIED ABOUT "LEAVING IT WITH A NEIGHBOR"/SLASHED THROUGH ADDRESS AND STOLE A MEDICATION PACKAGE SENT BY VA HOSPITAL SEATTLE. Never answers phone. Have called 72 times over last two days. No answer. Ever. 3 times I have ASKED IN WRITING FOR: Confirmation of Non-Delivery. Carriers can forge, lie and steal disabled veterans medicines, but NOT ONE SUPERVISOR CAN BE BOTHERED TO CALL ME. NOT ONCE.
Tried to drop off a package. Tons of people hiding in the back. The person in front of me wanted a package. The postal worker goes it the back, checks for a long period of time, them comes out and says the package not there. Probably 8-9 people waiting and waiting. The person says they are sure its there. The postal robot worker goes back and looks forever again, and, what do you know, they find it. WTF??? Then, when I hand in my package, the postal robot lady gives me attitude. Terrible. I'm not surprised they are going broke. Any real business run like this would have been gone decades ago.
I see why this location has such bad reviews. I called once last week about a package, they said they would have it sent over. I called once again today and they insisted I had to pick it up. Doesn’t make sense since the person I talked too last week said they would have it shipped out. The man then proceeded to say that my package needs a signature which I’m aware of, but he was making it seem like they can’t send it too me due to that. He said he’d leave a note for the carrier so fingers crossed they actually do their job and send it out. However I’m not going to hold my breath over it.
This is my favorite post office for three reasons: the two guys on the opposite ends of the counter are super knowledgeable, very helpful, efficient, and nice 2) the lines go fast and people in line are generally nice and patient 3) parking is super easy. The guys at this post office have saved my day a number of times and while in line I’ve seen them save other peoples day over and over. They have a fin display of cards for kids to read and don’t have a problem with your kid browsing the cards. I give this post office a big thumbs up and much prefer it to others in the area.
Certainly the worst run post office I've ever used. The letter carriers who serve our building have been incompetent at best, leaving packages out in the rain when a sheltered area was available, noting packages as delivered when they were not, and returning packages to sender because we were not open on Sunday or in the evening. At the PO itself, the staff is slow, surly, and uncaring. Management does not address these issues. Of the two good workers, one retired and the other moved to another location where she could provide excellent service.
Service is usually fine. Lines are not usually short. Because of transients, they unfortunately lock the PO boxes which are only open until a short time after the office itself closes. They have only a few stalls out front, and a somewhat small parking lot across the street, followed by a larger parking lot beyond that. While they have the larger parking lot about a half a block away, it is usually covered in tree leaf slime; and when it rains, sometimes there are gigantic puddles. I have only once seen their parking lots almost completely full.
This post office is awful. I've spent the last month dealing with getting a lock put on our mail box. We are a townhome on a lot with 3 other homes. The employees are vague with information and can be very misleading. We still havent receiving any mail- no one can figure out where it's gone. I have a package that was supposed to be delivered today- usps says they attempted to delivery today with a notice left. I was home and there is no notice anywhere to be found. It's frustrating that there isn't anyone to complain too.
The USPS wallingford supervisor is incredibly rude. Less than a week ago, I bought 150 dollars worth of the wrong envelopes to my office, so I tried to return it today. The supervisor was so rude! She stated they could not take it back and dismissed me. I left the store and looked but at the USPS website and learned it could’ve been exchanged. Idk how the exchange works I’ll have to call the customer service to learn about that. But as a store supervisor she should know how it works and given me that option.
Incredibly rude, condescending employees. All I needed was a master lock installed on a new mailbox at one of our units because the old one was vandalised to the point of unusable. Asked for a postmaster, was given the incorrect number, so I asked for a supervisor to order a new master lock, because that's what I was instructed to do by the incorrect branch they led me to in the first place. The man on the phone was condescending and absolutely refused to listen to anything I was trying to say.
The staff here are uniformly excellent and friendly enough to make me leave with a spring in my step. I've never waited longer than a few minutes, even in peak periods like holidays. These folks do a good job and I appreciate their kindness and good manners. I suggest to people who get miffed at this place, to visit NYC the week before Christmas, and try to mail a package, for perspective. And for some, perhaps your local mail clerks aren't responsible for all the failings of the USPS?
I am glad USPS exists but do not trust with important mail. We took our wedding invites and asked for Hand cancelling. My guests are getting their invites and the wax seals are smashed and you can clearly tell our invites were put through a machine. And the USPS folks told us they couldn’t put it through the machine AND that we had to pay 0.30 cents more per envelop for hand cancelling! So we paid extra and they still did it wrong. Feeling swindled.
The worst employees ever. We were told to collect our mail from the post office at 5:00 pm and when we arrived there, they simply said that the carrier will contact us and shut the door. We tried explaining that the registered mail that was paid for contained important original documents but they just yelled 'DO WHATEVER YOU WANT' and kept shutting the door instead of helping me with the next steps. I don't understand why they are so starved.
The people who work here are incredibly hostile. I had a package held here for pickup, and when I went to get it, they angrily told me numerous times that I was incorrect and it definitely was not there, even though the online tracking said it had arrived and was being held for pickup. When I finally got them to go into the back room and check to see if it was there, low and behold, it was there. Very rude and idiotic employees.
It shouldn't take so much effort to get someone on the phone here during regular business hours. I called last week and got nothing but a busy signal. Today I called and someone picked up and hung up immediately. After calling back consistently for 10 minutes I could not get anyone to pick up. Reliability should be component of the mail service. Unfortunately that courtesy does not seem to extend to basic customer service.
I called the Wallingford US Post Office to report that my mail had not been picked up or delivered for the past 2 days. I had put a letter in my post box 3 days earlier. After less than 30 seconds, the post office worker threatened to hang up on me because they said they could not do anything to help me. When I asked to speak with their supervisor, they hung up on me. Rude, unprofessional, & very poor customer service.
Horrible, horrible, customer service. The man I spoke with on the phone immediately had a defensive tone and was continuing to yell at me over the phone. I’ve never felt so disrespected before. When I asked the man politely “Sir, please don’t yell at me I don’t appreciate that.” Instead of apologizing he said “goodbye.” And hung up on me. I can not BELIEVE this USPS branch is open with the people who work there.
Although their workers are all generally nice, it’s always so slow since there’s only one person taking packages, especially during peak hours! There’s never an improvement or a solution. I even tried to call instead to get my package reschedule but I waited for 50min on the phone and still got no one to answe the call. I hate all post office due to their inefficiency, especially the one in our neighborhood.
My Hold Mail Service ended last Monday. Being Thursday it has not yet been redelivered, post office claims the carrier took it to deliver last Tuesday - but he did not and worse, no mail at all has been delivered to me. It is not the first time that the carrier seems to skip some days to deliver mail here. I already contacted the USPS claims department and am waiting for action. What else shall I do?
The employees have been fine but this post office needs an severe update. How about some paint and fix the front doors!! Biggest issue: stealing and I dropped a return with jewelry on it to avoid any issues between my home and the post office. The package was sliced opened and the jewelry stolen. It has to happen at the post office. It was sent back to me with visible damage. Thanks for that
This post office is ridiculous. We have not received mail for the past 9 months because they are forwarding to the old tenants at our address or returning to sender. We have a very similar last name to them. Every time we go to speak with the manager Dale is "on a conference call" Have called usps headquarters multiple times, still nothing resolved. It's an utter shambles
I'm one of the people who's astonished at all the bad reviews here. I live in another part of town, but whenever I have a stack of parcels to ship, I borrow a car to portage them all the way to Wallingford just so I can work with the people here. Friendly and funny, professional and efficient: pretty much the perfect USPS staff, in my experience.
Every time I called asking for updates of my missing mails/packages they’ll just say we’ll investigate and let you know and then there’s nothing. They will never call you back. Don’t count on that. A guy named Paul even hang up on me when I called the 6th time asking for same simple delivery updates. Most awful post office I’ve ever seen.
Yes, I am in the middle of a jam because a letter I mailed to Montana 8 days ago has not arrived. But I am also aware that when Helena had it's own sorting facility, we have the best service. Then they combined Helena into Great Falls and service went into the crapper. So no way of knowing which place is the offensive party.
Always friendly staff, helpful with shipping questions, and make sure that the best method is used. Why people leave such horrible reviews says more to their personality. It's a government run post office that gets little funding, and they are working to do the best with the old systems and hardware they have. Thank you!
Micheal helped me and many other people in line using the self-service machine. He walked us through it so it made everything go smoothly and quickly! I also witnessed him help a man who came in after close by getting him a priority box from the back. Just great customer service and all with a smile! Thanks, Micheal.
Like a lot of people say, they do occasionally skip it and say they couldn't access it. Sometimes I think they spend 5 seconds trying to open the 1 locked door on the front of the building. The apartment doors line both sides of the building so... I give 3 stars because this happens about 1 in 20 deliveries
I've been trying to call this office all day because my tracking number is showing my package address is incorrect and they couldn't deliver to me. It was, as I confirmed through USPS customer service, but this local office will NOT answer the phone, ever. It just rings and rings and rings.
I can't believe the negative reviews here. I just called this place today and the man on the phone couldn't have been anymore friendly, helpful and professional. I've never given a post office review, but seeing all of the bad ones, I wanted to give this place their props.
I had some problems with my mail not being placed on hold and Paul from the Wallingford post office called me and got the whole thing sorted out. He was extremely nice and helpful. I don't usually post reviews, but this definitely warranted one. Thanks, Paul!
Every single time I mail a package from this office, it says return to sender. I even came in yesterday and made sure they weighed it and it was ok'ed and now it says "return to sender". This place is a joke. I will be shipping from fed ex from now on.
Packages sent to wrong addresses and very unhelpful people at the store. So disappointing. I have had many bad experiences with lost packages already and no one at the store is in charge. They say it’s a very small branch and they are unable to help.
Terrible USPS Branch - person behind counter quite rude, condescending, and should not be working the counter. Ended up walking out to go to another branch. Just trying to send two pre-paid returns and buy a box, that's how unhelpful he was.
They never answer the phone, they lost my passport right before they lost my original birth certificate. They lost my Eurorail pass right before my trip. Can't explain how much I dont trust getting my mail from there but not much one can do.
The employees I see there for years were excellent. However, there was an extremely rude lady there several months ago, and I could not believe how condescending she was. She just had a horrible attitude no matter how hard you try to be
Had to stop by and pick up a package about 30 minutes before closing. There was no line and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I don't typically enjoy going to post offices, but this was a pleasant experience!
Whenever I had to visit their employees were friendly and efficient, not sure why they get so much hate. Just make sure you go during working hours - which are limited and inconvenient tbh hence minus one star.
Mail home delivery service by Wallingford P.O. is ABYSMAL. Yeah Seattle is hilly, yeah you got record snow, but 3 weeks (and counting) for delivery of a card!! This is the third time this has happened!!!
Slow, slow slow. Bad customer service as well. I am lucky that I have discovered a local service called Kiwiship. It is super fast, awesome customer service. A must try if you work in Seattle area..
Worst post office branch I have ever had to deal with. They are unreliable and dishonest. If I could avoid ever having to deal with them my life would be better. I wish I could give negative stars.
Aug 2020 - Jeff helped me pick out a box that was the correct size, scanned my return label that I had printed out, and handed over proof of shipment with no issues. Very kind and helpful!
If you ever have the pleasure of interacting with Linda at this post office, you’ll be as impressed as I am. She went above and beyond to help me locate a package. She is amazing!
What a fantastic post office. Friendly employees, great service, and a great location. Special shoutout to Real Change vendor Harlan Wood who works outside of this location.
They don't answer the phone. I called to try to complain about the mail carrier who keeps delivering someone else's mail to our house with a similar but different address.
I've gone here for 30 years and have rarely experienced anything less than friendly & helpful service. Sometimes, there are long lines. But, they move relatively quickly.
This has been going on for months and I want to be understanding, but my maIL isn’t being delivered. And I have informed delivery so I am very aware this is the problem
One of the few post offices with ample parking (across the street). I choose the Wallingford post office almost every time over Ballard and Greenwood for this reason.
I’ve heard that this is a training location. Let’s trim better! Haven’t had any mail in over two weeks. Meds included. Empty apartments get mail, yet I don’t…. Wtheck
This location is so hit and miss. Some of their staff are so helpful and others treat you like they’re not getting paid to provide you a service. Today I got unlucky.
Once again they have "misplaced" incoming priority mail. Getting mail from Tacoma to Wallingford should not take three, or more, days.and personal phone calls.
Been here two or three times. One star enough said. Update 5 years later. Hasn’t changed still one star it’s like they deliberately don’t want to help you out.
They will never pickup, I'm not just saying that I'm trying to save you time. Appalling they way they treat other people who were waiting in line
All these complaints, they have a machine so you dont have to wait in line to send packages, prints labels etc...thats worth 4 stars right there
Rude employees! I went three times during the year and I talked with 3 different employees. That’s unbelievable that the three were rude.
note that the P.O. box lobby is open until 7pm so you can drop off larger parcels that don’t fit in the regular letter boxes until then!
People complain too much. Service is good and the front desk people are even funny. What else you wanna from USPS for God sake
Came in at 5pm on a Monday. The retail was closed even though they should have been open until 6pm. No sign about altered hours.
Staff is friendly and in my experience waits are shorter than most post offices... even when there's a line, it moves quickly.
Google says they are open until 7, but I arrived at 6:05 and they could not help me! Don't go after 6, the office closes at 6.
Opens too late to get to in the morning if you work a 9-5... Doesn't have a package dropoff box (only one for envelopes...)
Try not to make the mistake of dropping a Fedex box in the bin. It could cause a long delay, but the package got there.
You lost a client SUGGEST that you Fix your automated system. Make your automated system available during lobby hours.
They can't do a vacation hold to save their life. I get mail delivered for wrong names all the time. Very depressing.
This place is terrible. The men working were loudly talking about me and very rude. Will be reporting to the State.
This place is ridiculously bad, They might as well just delete there phone # since they literally NEVER answer it
People here are always friendly with a sense of humor. Convenient stop on my way home from work. Very efficient.
Best post office I’ve ever been to. Super friendly, efficient staff. Always a nice experience coming here.
Average service, but did note the one guy who had a chip on his shoulder about how terrible UPS is.
Fast service! Btw it looks like they have almost no parking but there are 3 lots right next door.
Amazingly slow service. No movements in the line for 15 mins. Better go to any other location.
I love this post office and have been going here for 15 years. Always friendly and helpful.
Nice people, they work fast, and today was surprised how cheap it is to send my package.
friendly & funny employees. my favorite post office in Seattle for the last 20 years
I usually have little to no wait and staff has always been very nice and kind.
I called a few weeks ago to track a lost package and they were super helpful.
Rude, dismissive, and unhelpful employees. Avoid this location if possible.
Not helpful. Needed to talk with someone today NOT in 3-5 business days!
They were really helpful. I have been going to this office many years.
Friendly, quick service. All folks were wearing masks. Well stocked!
Carrier marked my pickup as completed, but it's still in my mailbox.
Randomly mark mail undeliverable multiple times with no recourse.
Spotty service and ever-changing hours make 98103 a challenge.
Lost my package. Hung up on me when I called for help.
been a ton of times and never once had an issue here.
i've had nothing but remarkably poor experiences here
I have been fortunate 96 % of the time
Understaffed. Wait time is looooong.
Good service!
Very friendly
