This is the worst place I've ever taken my animal too. Crooks. It's all about $$ here. Not even the welfare of your animal trumps that. You found a way to make the day our cat suddenly died even worse. I will explain in more detail on another day 2 visits to explain. Long story. Would give negative stars if I could DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE *Edit I still haven't forgot about you guys and it's been a few years. I can't believe that you're still in business you crooks. You told me that the real vet that is just around the corner listening to me if I want to speak to him and be an extra charge and when I brought my cat in who was cold and twisting up in a kennel the first thing you do was slip a piece of paper in my face authorizing you to do CPR on a cat that's already dead for $400.. I started shouting is he alive is he alive? And you couldn't even answer me just wanted that $400. It's lucky that my girlfriend was there with me and calmed me down because I was starting to get heated.. and after you guys acknowledged that the cat is dead ... Out comes the catalogue for shopping for memorabilia of my dead cat. You guys even charge for clipping his hair to give me a little sample to keep. I'm surprised that nobody has burn your building down but that's probably because of the welfare of the animals that you guys most likely are scamming people keeping overnight. I've been to an actual real vet that cares about the animal and you guys should be ashamed of yourselves.. The first time I took my cat to you he was 2 years old and cranky and you told me you have no problem putting him down or $3,000 for an overnight surgery. He ended up being fine on his own two days later.I paid you for two X-Rays and some food $500 later I'm leaving there more confused than when I came in. I called another vet and they actually gave me some suggestions over the phone about his tummy ache I asked them what they charge for x-rays half the price you clowns do. I've kept this in for a long time but you guys are a nightmare a living nightmare. You should literally go out of business for your lack of empathy and yourlove of money. I cringe every time I drive past your building. This is a night that I will never get over... And you were just the salt in the wound. I hope the whole city sees this. The only reason I brought him to you a second time was because it was in the middle of the night and you're lucky that you're 24 hours. I don't remember how much you charge for that visit to tell me that my cat was dead... even though I knew he was but I just couldn't bring myself to bury him without knowing for sure. you guys feed off of people's nightmares. We all know our pets are like our kids.... Can you imagine getting the same treatment at a hospital for your little kid? If it was up to you guys that would be the situation. You guys should literally be ashamed and hopefully Karma will remedy the situation or whoever's in charge. I recommend Northeast animal clinic... Half the price and tears. I can't express how much I hate this place. Oh yeah you guys even refused to keep his body and cremate him because he didn't die at your place.. it was my girlfriend who adamantly refused to take his body with us because what are we going to do with him? .. charges for the cremation and for your expertise .. the only reason we came to you was because we lived in Airdrie and you were the closest place to US that was open in the middle of the night. I could go on and on and on.. I hate this place more than I can ever ever ever Express. I'm urging anyone considering taking their animal to this literal hell on Earth... Just read the reviews and read the lowest ratings. There are so many and so many people have found those helpful.. hopefully all those thumbs up are less tears cried. I feel that I'm being nice in this review.. how I feel inside is worse. Anyone leaving a 5-star review probably paid unnecessary $$$$
I'm very torn about this animal hospital but will say my family and I recommend staying away from this place unless absolutely necessary. I've unfortunately had to take my dog here multiple times due to the timing of emergencies (late night and Christmas) and while some experiences have been ok, the bad outweighs the good. After going to another vet that I trust much more, I do feel like they guide you to doing lots of tests and the vets are so overworked that they are terrible at communicating. I've been told I would get an email with details or quotes within a few days, and had to call back to follow-up multiple times before getting results or updates. One of the vets told us our dog was dying and we would need to put her down that night or in a few days at the latest. We immediately thought the worst and almost said goodbye to her that night. Our dog ended up being fine and barely needed antibiotics to recover. We took her home and will never go back to this hospital again. The vet never apologized for giving us devastating news when she never even looked at our dog's file/temperature/intake information. As soon as she reviewed the information the techs took, she changed her tune. It was absolutely unacceptable and we will continue to strongly advise our friends and family to not take their animals to this hospital. The vet was so tired and had been working so long that she nearly had us put down our dog due to her inability to read a temperature. It has taken us months to be able to write this review as we were so traumatized by the horrible experience. If you take your animals here and you have the time, get a second opinion where possible. I will say that the people at reception are lovely and very caring.
Our 4 month old puppy had a bowel obstruction resulting from a dietary indiscretion. After throwing up constantly one morning we took him to our vet who recommended taking him to Calgary North because he was quite dehydrated and needed 24 hour care. Once at Calgary North Vet Hospital he was smoothly admitted and they began his care under, Dr. Jason Barton, to rehydrate him and make him more comfortable. The hope was that he would pass the foreign material in his bowel but it didn't move in 24 hours, so surgery was the only option. The DVM who performed the surgery, Dr. Sarah Tijon, was skilled enough to recognize that she could manually move the obstruction into his colon without cutting into the bowel. This saved our pup, and us, a lot of grief and discomfort. He later became quite ill from an aggressive infection and we had to rush him to CN. He was virtually unconscious when we got him there shortly after midnight. They admitted him again and began emergency efforts to get his high fever under control. IV antibiotics were administered that probably saved our pup's life. By the next morning he wasn't back to normal, but he was no longer on death's door. He was discharged later in the day and is making very steady progress returning to good health. A lot of kudos go out to Dr. Jason Barton, Dr. Patrick Tiernan, and Dr. Sarah Tijon. Also, various nurses who kept a close eye on our puppy, while he was there. Nurses are often unsung heroes, and I've no doubt that was the case here. And lastly the front office staff, including Kenya, were awesome to deal with.
I passed what I thought was a dead bird on the highway, and decided to turn around to move it off the road, thinking that it had been too beautiful in life to just get smooshed into the asphalt. When I ran out to pick it up, I realized that it wasn't dead, just severely injured. I was on Hwy 22x, east of the Indus turnoff, about halfway to the Langdon turnoff, nowhere near any vet clinics. I called the Fish and Wildlife numbers, which were closed for the day, and the Report-a-Poacher answering line didn't seem to be the appropriate way to deal with this emergency. I then googled emergency vet clinics in Calgary, and 3 options came up. The first two that I called immediately put me on hold. Not promising. I then called the Calgary North clinic and was answered by a lovely person who took the time to listen to my story, and then welcomed me to bring the bird in and they would take care of it. I wrapped up the bird, a Swainsons Hawk, in my denim jacket and took off for the clinic. They were busy when I walked in with him wrapped up in my jacket, but one of the techs dropped what she was doing and came to help. Within 5 minutes I had filled out the forms and the tech was telling me that a vet was looking at him right that moment and doing what they could to help him. THIS is the kind of emergency care that I would want for my pet, and this will be the clinic that I call if I am ever in a situation where I need access to emergency vet care again. Highly recommend them based on this experience.
In February the unexpected happened. Me and my girlfriend had two beautiful pit bulls. My 9 year old boy crook had started puking and seizing in the morning. I was gone to work, but thankfully my girlfriend, sister and friend were at the house. They acted fast and rushed him to the closest vet. This being the closest open that Sunday. They had called them to let them know they were coming. The people at the vet had the stretcher ready and got him in fast. They ran tests very quickly but unfortunately it was to late. He was bleeding internally and my only option was to help ease his pain by making the decision to put him down. Going through all of this over the phone and so far away was extremely heart breaking for me as I wasn’t there with him during his last breath. Nothing makes something like this easier but the comfort and genuine compassion the people here had shown me over the following weeks to come meant the world. They sent cards. Did welfare checks by calling to see how I was doing. When you loose a pet you loose your family and they understood this. So thank you to everyone at this animal hospital. Your kindness goes a long way and I appreciate you doing everything you could to help save my boy. 10/10 recommend this place for all your animals needs.
I had to have my rabbit euthanized here on thanksgiving. They do a quality of life examination before going through with the euthanasia, which is a very professional and humane policy. The veterinarian was very straightforward and helped me to feel as though I made the best choice for her. I was crying and very upset, but everyone was extremely considerate and compassionate. It was a hard day for me and even though the staff was very busy that day, they were very comforting and accommodating. I would highly recommend this clinic everyone, it is well worth the drive if you don't live near by. EDIT: I just wanted to edit my review to further illustrate the compassion and dedication of the staff at this clinic. Today I was feeling sad, my second weekend without my rabbit. I check the mail to find a hand written card from the staff and doctor that cared for me and my rabbit. And not only was the card hand written with beautiful messages and well wishes, but they also included that a memorial donation was made to the Tails of Help charity. I really can't express how thoughtful and lovely this clinic and it's staff is. My heart is so full. Thank you so much all of you!
We absolutely love VCA North! They have been our vet since I brought my girl home as a puppy and have always made us feel valued and important when visiting. Spook loves to go to the vet. To the point that she starts crying and carrying on, as soon as we pull into the parking lot and then drags me inside so she can see her front desk friends! The waiting area is comfortable and very large, the staff are great and all the vets and vet techs are awesome with my girl. She gets a little separation anxiety when they take her back but she's always been able to remember her manners and let them do whatever it is they've needed to do. Care club is amazing and really gives me peace of mind. I am able to take Spook in any time for a check-up or emergency and there's no fee for someone to see her, some types of testing like blood panels and most of her vaccines have been covered and we can even get a free nail trim monthly; that alone makes me a very owner! Picture of my girl the last time we went for a check-up/nail trim, sitting and waiting happily.
Worst experience! I'd choose zero stars if i could. My pet budgie is in distress and I called asking if I could come in right away. They told me over the phone that I could come in and that it was OK for me to be present for my budgie's passing,.which was very important for me to be with him. I brought my budgie in the car which is extremely stressful for him... in a snow storm and drove 25 minutes. When I arrive they told me I cannot be present for my budgie being put down. I just put him through all this stress for nothing. I walked out crying. Why are bird/exotic pet owners treated differently than cat/dog owners? I have witnessed my bird in the past being euthanized before and I chose to be present with my little friend during a stressful time. Despite the reception communicating to me wrongly over the phone, they would not make an exception for me after i drove all the way there. If your vet is not confident enough to put down a bird with their owner present then they shouldn't be doing it in the first place. I won't be returning here!
My cats are my babies and they didn’t disappoint here. I normally do a lot of research on places before going for obvious reasons. I didn’t have much choice today as my cat starting bleeding everywhere. I called around a few places to get an emergency appointment and this was the first place that said come on in! I felt welcome right away. The decal on the front door welcoming all (lgbtq+) was comforting, especially for Alberta. They recognized right away that my cats mean the world to me and made me feel secure and safe. The staff seem like they love their job and answered everything quickly. My doctor and Chris were really kind and sincere as was the others but they really stood out to me. Was it the cheapest Vet in town? Probably not. But you get what You pay for. My little cat is resting up from surgery and I thank everyone there for your kindness and sincere attitude while I was trying to hold it together. I will be a returning customer if my cats ever need anything again. Thank you for being inclusive and proud of it
Got us in on a emergency for injesting a toxic plant and I am thankful for that, hence the 2 stars. The vet was also really nice and thorough. Unfortunately, our pup caught kennel cough from the clinic on Wednesday April 19th. Our dog does not go to the dog park, nor socialize with other dogs as the clinic had suggested when I called to ask what I should do. They are denying that the clinic is responsible and arent willing to cover any fees associated with an exam or medication, if needed. They explained their protocol in regards to symptomatic dogs and its impossible that she caught kennel cough at their clinic. However, if an owner does not disclose or know that their dog is infected, how can they follow their protocol? Anyways I'm disappointed, as now I have to treat 2 dogs, one who is 11 years old. I guess that's the risk you take going to unfamiliar clinics for emergencies. Wanted to share our story for those of you who have brought your dogs in around this time, in case you start noticing symptoms.
Although the staff are friendly and professional and overall it’s good service, this place has really declined over the past few years. I come in with my pets for their annual wellness check/shots and it’s like the first time I’ve ever come in (and I have been coming here for over 10 years). The Drs take notes but they do not read them at the next visit - same questions over again, I have to go through their history on everything. And they seem more concerned with promoting their food products than the health of my pets. There was literally no issues with my pets but the Dr recommend changing their diet - which I declined (my pets are currently on high end food - just not their vet food). They used to provide a wellness report after an exam - but now provide nothing. This level of service is good if it were a walk-in pet clinic but would not recommend for annual care. Time to check out other vets in the area with higher ratings/reviews.
Our 4 month old kittens got into some grapes today, needless to say we rushed them over to VCA in an absolute panic. Everyone and I do mean absolutely everyone in the clinic were so unbelievably kind and helpful towards us. They walked us through the process step by step and gave our rambunctious grape-thieving kittens lots of love and care--despite the fact that they were all likely very busy and we hadn't even had an appointment! I've never left a review before, but the experience was just so warm and the kittens are feeling purrfectly healthy now as they sleep at home under a sunbeam. I felt like the Doctor and all of the techs really just love animals and genuinely care so much, it shows. Thank you so so much for being amazing and sweet even while having to induce a plump orange kitten's very impressive vomit response. I hope you all have a fabulous day, your kindness meant the world to us and to our kittens!
We brought our 1 year old miniature dachshund to this clinic because she was experiencing digestive issues. Our first veterinarian, Dr. Richard Weger, was absolutely fantastic. He was attentive, kind, and displayed expertise in his field. He handled our scared & sensitive pup with utmost care and professionalism. We highly recommend him and appreciate his exceptional service. 5 Star Experience. However, our second visit turned out to be an awful experience with "Doctor" Sarah Tijon. She was cold, rude, and showed extreme aggression and impatience towards our pup. Not only did she provide unsolicited advice unrelated to our concerns, but she also was unhelpful from the moment she entered the room. It's clear that she doesn't value the time, care, and attention required to handle each animal with kindness and compassion. Her behaviour was completely unacceptable for someone in her chosen profession.
Highly recommend this vet clinic. Although, the reception team could be more friendly and I did run into an unpleasant issue with a vet tech while visiting my pup, Doctor. Barton and Dr. Boyer gave my dog the best care they possibly could. My dog was hospitalized for 4 days and each day I got a morning and afternoon update from Dr.Barton. It was early decided that there was nothing left to do for my pup, and that he would have to be put down. I waited for my family to come back in town before doing so and the Medical Technician Clayton, was amazing with my pup for all 4 days and my pup ended up falling in love with him. This was the hardest thing I had to do, but with the help of Dr. Barton, Dr.Boyer and Clayton they definitely made things a little easier, and I can thank those three for making my pup the most comfortable he could be for his last 4 days here.
The crew here at VCA was phenomenal. They took care of Mr Bruce, while he was on the verge of death. And now he's coming home today. Yes it was a little pricey, but what good type of healthcare isn't? Also I was reading some of the comments below. Follow the rules "stay in your vehicle in the parking lot". and do your due diligence in asking questions. And I assure you you will have a great experience! And remember this is a hospital first and a clinic second! My 5-month-old puppy's coming home because of these people! I wouldn't be giving them five stars and telling you to come here if I didn't believe that these people had our animals best interest at heart! They're even willing to let us come see our dog to give peace of mind. That's not easy with a lot of companies shutting down their doors with covid fears. Thank you VCA Staff!
Sunday of the long weekend, my (typical) cat decided to eat a long piece of yarn, which I realized just as he was swallowing it. They took him in right away, explained their procedure for inducing vomiting and ensured I knew any risks involved. Luckily, they were able to induce the barfing and removed the yarn. I appreciate their professionalism and the speed with which they treated him. He is now sitting (impatiently) waiting for his kibble, obvi no worse for the wear. I typically take my cat to a vet that strictly deals with cats, mostly to minimize any stress to him or other animals that do not identify as cats , but I can highly recommend VCA Calgary North for urgent/emergency cat issues, and they are probably great for non-emergency care also. Aegon says, “thanks for making me barf, it was awesome! “
We had to bring our cat in for emergency service at 11pm... We thought it was asthma but it turned out to be congestive heart failure due to a heart defect when he was born. The doctors and nurses could not have been more accommodating to me (the wife) who was a wreck and sobbing for 90% of the visit. They were fast, caring and made us feel like family. Unfortunately, my cat was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, which means he has about one more year left in him before his heart isn't able to keep up with him. Thankful that VCA found it when they did or my poor cat would've drowned in the fluid he had in his lungs when we took him in. Dr. Barton is an absolute dream to work with and he's very kind and understanding. Thank you for everything, you guys.
We love VCA North! When we turn into the parking lot, my dog reacts like we've arrived at the dog park and starts going crazy; she jumps out of the car and practically drag me inside lol They know her by name and when we walk in, her favorite employee always greets her by name and comes out for pets; they even bring treats that are safe for her to eat! (Gluten and chicken free) The doctor's are kind and are more than willing to give me all the information, so I can make the best choices for my girl. We have Careclub. It's $65/month and all her shots, boosters, nail trims, check ups and emergency visits are covered; this has saved me hundreds in the 3.5 years we've been going here. Spook and I, highly recommend VCA North!
My nephew went in with his dog because he was peeing blood. The vet was good initially. It didn’t take long to suspect they were not on the up and up. The price went from 143.00 up to 700-800 dollars. The vet had already said they do t need to do blood work it was done 72 hours ago and he had x-rays. They took the dog to the back and came out to say “oh we should maybe do blood work and x-rays. My nephew who is a student in Calgary told him he couldn’t afford that much. The vet went in the back and came back and asked my nephew if he could afford 4-500 hundred dollars. Long story I know, but it ended up NO ONE a had my nephew sign anything!!! Shame on this vet clinic! Would never refer anyone to these guys
Excellent front desk service, exceptionally kind and attentive. The tech who discharged me, however, made some minor errors: gave me the incorrect syringe for my rabbit's Critical Care feed by like, 8 sizes, and also incorrectly placed the dosage line sticker on another syringe that I didn't notice until 3 days into my rabbit's med regiment. BUT this was literally both the mistake of a single tech, and literally everyone else there is outstanding, so maybe just be extra vigillant when checking your labelled syringes and the corresponding dosages on the actual bottles of medicine. Nonetheless, I do love this clinic and I would bring my bunnies back if they were sick again. * knocks on wood *
I have so many great things to say about this place. The staff take amazing care of their patients. The vets are very detailed and take the time to care for your animals. They don't rush you, always make sure you have everything you need and go above and beyond. Chris has been by our sides since the very beginning and I couldn't be more grateful and thankful for their love and support throughout our difficult times with our last doggie and ducky. All the staff are just so wonderful. We even brought a puppy in that wandered away from home and they took care of him with welcoming arms, until the owners were found. Thank you VCA North, for everything you do. Much love and appreciation!!
Very poor service. Went there with my cat who had trouble breathing because of a maxillary sinus tumor. The tech or the doctor did not bother to come and see my cat.I waited in their waiting room for 3 hours. All the others pets were seen. Not Sasha. I was dressed in a traditional Shalwar kameez, May be that could have triggered the discrimination. I wish they had not done this to my poor cat Sasha.I had to leave after 3 hours. Neither were her vitals taken .Even though I told the front desk that Sasha had trouble breathing.I wouldn't recommend this place to any pets or pet owners especially if they are from minority groups. I wouldn't recommend this place to any one per se
This is the emergency department for animals. They are amazing. I can literally go on for hours about how much they respected me, my pet and my family. They were quick and decisive, they knew what they were doing and how to do it with respect. Calling them in a panic and they didn't even flinch. Dr. Shutts was a wonderful person to have treating my dog, and Stephanie was so helpful and informative for us. They respected me and did everything they possibly could to make sure I knew what was happening, why and what all my options were. No matter what I will be returning here for any reason that my pets need something. They have a client for life.
Overall a good experience! Was really happy to get the answers and help my dog needed. Until the end when one of the nurses were super rude and made me feel bad when I mentioned previously my dog was very anxious and nervous and might snarl at people especially being touched. So when he became very reactive in the back room where they took him where I could not go, she came back into the room I was waiting in and scolded me about it as if I was a child. I wouldn’t mind taking him back here. But GOD FORBID I ever see that nurse again I probably won’t be as nice to her as I was today. Otherwise every other worker I interacted with were wonderful.
The VCA was amazing for our little guy, 8 weeks old and needed to be admitted to the hospital which he stayed for the weekend then was released to our care. They kept us update on him with a daily picture while he was there. He melted their hearts and now our little puppy is doing alot better. The Doctors were very friendly and at first it seemed they were more about the cost of services then the care. But the services rendered were exceptional and the care that our little guy got was amazing. Thank you to all who attended to our little man and answered our calls and sent update pictures. We couldn't be more happy to have him home with us
Absolutely amazing clinic, everyone here is SO kind and empathetic. My cat has been through a lot the last year and a half and they were there for us and her every step of the way. They have put so much effort into making her better and laying things out in a way so we can understand her situation. Every staff member here has genuinely good hearts and they make you feel like you and your companion matter. We never feel like we're being rushed so they can move on like at a regular doctor's office, they always take as much time as needed to explain and discuss your pets health. Every dollar we've spent here has been 100% worth it.
The staff are amazing! So professional and compassionate. I had to put my little dog down just a week after I lost my other little dog. The compassion and care they showed me was amazing! And the Vet took so much time to go over everything with me and also made the process as comfortable and painless as possible. It is probably not an easy job they have dealing with these situations because I am sure seeing it so often is hard. But they are all so very sweet and I thank them all so much for the compassion and support they showed me. I appreciate them so much and so thankful to have had them through such difficulty and sadness.
We brought our senior kitty, Cimmie - age 21, to the clinic knowing his health was failing due to kidney disease. The Dr. and staff were very supportive during this traumatic time in all of our lives. Following an exam and discussion with the doctor, we knew it was time for Cimmie to cross over to a better place. We found the staff so supportive. They followed up with a card in the mail expressing their loving thoughts and we even got a call from a counsellor a month later asking if we need any further support. I would highly recommend taking your furry friend to these wonderful people. Thank you for everything!
My pooch Sophie and I have visited this clinic on many occasions over the past 2 years and the veterinarians and staff consistently outperform themselves in the high level of customer service and animal care they offer. On our most recent visit, Dr. Jason Barton was outstanding and went above and beyond in treating Sophie's every need. Thanks very much again Dr. Barton! As well, the front line staff are wonderful. A special shout out to Christopher at the front desk who, during our past visit 2 days ago, expressed genuine concern and interest for Sophie. I can't say enough good things about this hospital clinic.
Brought our furbaby here because she was not well. We thought we were bringing her back home. Turns out, she was worse than we thought. Dr. Tyranyn and the staff here were very helpful, discrete, and understanding. This was my 1st time at this vet, and I didn't know what to expect. They helped us through the hard times and showed a lot of empathy. They were great with our furbaby as well. So caring and comforting. They treated her with love and respect, like she was their own. I definitely recommend this place. Thank you, guys, for all your support and sympathy! (Sorry if I got the spelling wrong of the doctor)
Not a real emergency hospital. Plan to wait. My dog wash bleeding out his bum and we sat there for over an hour. Another dog who had come in before us did the same and it did appear they were going to leave when I did. Only people that went in to see a vet while we were there were those with appointments like check ups and vaccines. More of a walk in clinic than an emergency. I called Trinity while at this location, filled an intake form online and drove the 20 mins to their location. He got seen immediately by a nurse when we arrived (checked vitals etc) and within 30 mins by the vet.
My best friend was pretty sick, unfortunately I didn’t realize how sick he was till we took him in. The staff were so incredibly kind, and patient with us while we talked about options, and when we made the worst choice an animal owner has to make they were so attentive. I ended up getting sick from all the emotions, and they cared for me as much as they cared for my boy, to ensure we where both as comfortable and healthy as possible right up to the end. In such a hard dark moment in my life, I couldn’t have asked for better staff and doctors to help us through it.
Wonderful vet clinic! I had an accident at work and had to bring one of my clients dogs in for stitches! The young lady( Randi Lai) was so comforting. As this was a call in and not a scheduled appointment the wait time was only about 10 minutes! The vet that came out ( sorry I was still in a bit of shock and forgot her name) was so caring and understanding. I felt so comfortable at this clinic! Not only did they take care of my clients dog with care and kindness, they were also so kind with myself My new vet clinic as I will be bringing my pups here from now on!❤️
My dog Nico got a fishhook stuck in his side and I brought him to this hospital to have it removed. It was my first time here and it was an excellent experience. All of the staff we're great from beginning to end. They did such an amazing job getting it out, it didn't even really leave a mark on him, really impressive. Nico is a rescue so a little quirky and he's had some freakouts at the vet before. I thought for sure I'd have to calm him down but I didn't. Really says a lot of how great the staff are here. I highly recommend this hospital.
Every staff member is incredibly kind and patient in times of stress. They were incredibly professional and supportive when I had to bring my pet for an emergency situation. The vet was able to provide same day lab results and a treatment plan and everything worked out great. I also heard the front desk staff respond to many difficult situations with respect and professionalism including someone clearly yelling at them on the phone. Although I never want to have another emergency, I would go here again for sure. Thank you!
They accepted me and my dying animal immediately, and were so caring when he died. During one of the worst nights of my life, and the last night of my pets, they didn't make me feel silly for sobbing at the news, and they gave me time aline with him. I went in just this past Friday for his ashes and they were so incredibly nice. I've always praised all VCA locations for their service to animals and people, but having fully experienced it myself, I can't imagine telling anyone to go elsewhere for any animal emergency.
Transferred here after vets2go got bought out. Not super happy with how they treat customers and also frustrated with the fact that I payed for a wellness check up in September 2022, then realized (on my own accord) that my pet is due for vaccination this January. Instead of simply charging for the vaccination and a short visit , they insist on a full $100 wellness checkup. It made me so frustrated that I’ll go elsewhere. Not an awesome way to treat loyal customers in need of a 2 minute nasal spray.
I wish I could give them -5 stars. If you don’t do what the doctors say they will send peace officers to your house to ensure that you pay the $8000 that they recommend. Using the city for private gain, and making pet owners feel that they are not good parents. That is the VCA for you, never take your loved ones to these unintellectual corporate driven money hungry employees. There are better Vet services if you look around on the outskirts who actually deal with animals as loving caring humans.
Horrible experience went to have my cat euthanized was quoted a certain price. It was a hard decision but my cat was very sick and it was time. Once there he was put in an incubator to warm up taken from me IV hooked up multiple questions the cat was 22 years old he could barely walk and was in pain they ran a series of tests and never let me see my cat again then charged me close to 600.00 just a money grab and no compassion shown at all . I highly recommend taking your pets somewhere else.
We have had to bring our Cat in here a few times over the past few years, for different ailments. The staff have always been nice and helpful. Yesterday we had to put our cat to sleep, and the service we received was amazing. The staff gave us all our options in a professional and non-judgmental manner, and when it came time to say goodbye to our fur baby they were kind, compassionate, and gave us all the time we needed to say good bye. Thank you for caring for us during a very hard time!
The service at VCA was exceptional! 10/10 would recommend for emergency animal care. My dog was attacked by another dog and she torn her toe nail when she was trying to flee and it started bleeding. The staff at VCA took us in immediately to check on my dog and stopped the bleeding. All the staff at VCA were extremely friendly and they truly care about your pets. Our technician (Jack) even put a Heart and a flower on the bandage. Thank you to all the staff at VCA! Keep up the good work!
Let's just say that I have a cat but I know nothing about them like what they eat and where they poo and stuff, but these people took their time to show me everything around and show me what I need and what I do not need. There was a lady over there that helped me but I forgot her name she is one of the most patient human being I know. Overall my experience over there was top notch my Shassy couldn't feel more like a queen after everything we got over there. And she's loving her food.
Most sick and twisted vet in calgary. Wouldn't return my childs dog. Dog got out of my yard and a neighbour took them here. Irregardless of all proof of ownership, registration number, ID'S and photos of me with the dog refused to return her. Got her from animal services later on and the officer at animal services said they could have returned her with photo proof alone. Not sure what kind of people enjoy taking a child's pet but that's disgusting and exactly what they do here.
Although it was a very sad moment...I had to unexpectedly put my special boy down...I have nothing but praise for this place. Dr. Singh was so kind and straight forward without losing his compassion for both myself and for my fur baby. He explained all my options, the odds for recovery, the costs, etc. He gave me time to process, no rushing. The staff involved were so considerate. They even all signed a sympathy card after and sent it to us. Made my heart full. Thank you all.
This emergency clinic was great the wait was a bit too long especially seeing that my 7 month old puppy was in pain however very honest vet did not push to spend tons of money based on fear of a family pet very open and intelligent and most importantly compassionate seeing he is only 2lbs and I really appreciated that my bill was <$200 with anti-inflammatory liquid and pain killer are very clear instruction premeasured applicators and sent all the notes to our vet. Thank you
My dog was very sick and had more issues than I thought. The vet explained to me what my little girl needed to get somewhat better. They were going to have to remove her eyes and most of her teeth. We discussed options, and I decided to euthanize my friend of 13 years. They were very supportive during this awful decision. They gave her treats and food to ease her stress as I said goodbye. I will always take my pets here because of the compassion they show me and my fur baby.
Would definitely recommend VCA North for any emergent/urgent care needs. Last night my dog had an encounter with a porcupine and had to get quills from his face and paws removed. The front staff were so kind and understanding and were able to get him in right away. His care plan was very clearly explained and they were able to answer any questions we had. We were confident that he would be receiving the best care possible. Very impressed with the service provided!
Dr Jason Barton is an amazing person and veterinarian. I'm am so grateful for the compassion he showed, it got me through one of the worst moments in my life. Letting go of my best friend. In his last moments when I said "I love you" ...Dr Barton reminded me that he knew that, in that moment it meant the world to me. The entire team at VCA North is one of a kind. I don't know how they managed to hire only beauties, but that appears to be the case.
Dr. Loustric was great - explained everything clearly, quickly, and efficiently while ensuring our cat got the care she needed. She also followed up with some great resources for helping our cat get used to travelling in a car. Reception staff and vet techs were awesome too and communicated well with us before and after our appointment. There was no wait time and our appointment started right on time. Better than clinics/hospitals for humans!
These guys are amazing. They truly care about the animals over anything. From the front desk staff to the vet techs to the veterinarians themselves. They provided me with lots of information on everything I was uneducated in. My dog had to change food due to allergies and before buying an expensive bag they gave me some samples to see what she would end up eating. I cannot thank them enough for the excellent care they provide.
Our pup had a seizure yesterday and all of the staff here was SO amazing. They made us feel comfortable and calm, even though I was a blubbering anxious mess, and kept our pup for a few hours to make sure she was stable enough to go home. They took the time to explain her new medications and gave us a ton of print outs about her new diagnosis of epilepsy. Thank you for taking such good care of our girl on a very stressful day!
This place has been our vet go to for 8 years. I don't know what happened but they have changed drastically. Less than satisfactory care for a ridiculous price, no clear answers on my little pugs condition. Finally got answers and care after seeking a second opinion at an Okotoks vet clinic, for less than half the price with better care. Sad what this clinic has become. Would NOT recommend to anyone. Will not ever return.
They need to adopt a clear and transparent policy around wildlife. For example: "We will treat all animals with compassion and best efforts but not all animals can be saved. We will not discuss wildlife after they are dropped off due to the time and resources required. Alternative options include dropoff at Calgary Wildlife Rehab that relies on public donations to facilitate the care and rehabilitation process."
I cannot recommend this vet enough! My cat recently had a medical emergency and stayed at Calgary North Animal Hospital for two days, and I have not had a more positive experience with a veterinary clinic. All staff members were exceptionally kind and caring, and they went above and beyond to keep me in the loop and address any concerns that I had. Will definitely be visiting for any of my pets' future needs!
I was sent to them by my vet McKnight animal hospital because they no longer take care of emerg so my little snoopy was taken care of by the vets and they were so wonderful ... They took care of my snoopys legs and we're very attentive and engaging ... And snoopy is one of 4 babies so that kind of treatment is everything to me ... So looks like I will move my family over .... Thanks VCA Canada North ...
I've had to wait insane lengths multiple times but have always been treated with kindness. Surgery prices are fair but basic appointments and medications are very expensive for me as a low income individual. That being said they worked with me to access a charity and to finance what I couldn't fit on my credit card. My dog will need further care and if ever she needs surgery I will be back here again.
Brought in an injured Great horn owl I found. I want to thank this Hospital for being so open to taking it in to watch overnight before sending it to the right place. So many turn downs from places and I knew it was worth the hour drive out. They are very reliable and know what they are doing. They were very nice and understanding. Definitely worth going too! I had no doubt about leaving the owl here.
I took my cat in as a walk-in and unfortunately he had to be put down due to advanced cancer. The staff were so lovely during the whole ordeal, making sure he was as comfortable as possible, and even sent a personalized card to our home after. It’s been a few months and we received a follow up call to make sure we are doing ok. They really go above and beyond. We are so grateful we found this vet!
I brought my cat in as she was not herself, the reception staff was great. Chris in particular was fantastic, very attentive and thoughtful to pets and pet parents. The vet was good, he gave a few treatment options and explained what could be going on. I also found it to be very reasonably priced which was great. Hoping to not be back with a sick pet, but if i ever need help they will be my go to.
Wish I could leave more than 5 stars. The caring and compassion showed from every single person here was amazing. They put 110% effort into giving my boy the best chance he could have. They were there for him 24/7 over several days. While he sadly didn’t make it, I am grateful he was surrounded by such caring and skilled people the last few days - I know he felt that love. Eternally grateful ♥️
Pricy. After walking in with my pup and a diarrhea problem I got the impression that they care more about the business than about the finances of the owners. I am a vet and I have some knowledge on dogs and cats and I didn’t accept a bunch of unnecessary diagnostic tests. Even with that I thought it was pricy. I can’t imagine how it would be if I didn’t reject some of the tests.
Our senior dog was in trouble and our regular vet wasn't prepared to help so we went to these wonderful people. We knew he wouldn't be coming home with us and all of the staff here were so caring and compassionate beyond belief. To also receive a card in the mail signed with a touching message from all is so thoughtful. We can't thank these people enough for their help!
We were here for the worst day for any pet owner. The lovely people here were endlessly kind and very caring. They were professional the entire time and gave us all the time we needed. I know they also prioritized our wonderful pooch, hoping to find solutions. Unfortunately she was just too sick. Again, the people were wonderful considering the circumstances.
Something was wrong with our dog so we called them and they said to bring her in. We got seen pretty quickly and they provided their expertise and options for testing (which they did not pressure us into extra cost services). We went home with meds (and no testing) and dog was better quickly. We'll return if/when our Boston Terrier has problems again.
The front desk staff, vet techs and dr Jason Barton were all fantastic. They got my pets documents transferred from another clinic and got me in extremely fast. Dr Barton provided excellent care, and provided several options for my dog and found the best resolution for issue. Will be returning to this clinic from now on. Thanks to everyone at vca.
Our cat was pretty sick last week and we were quite worried about her. She was seen quickly and the vet techs were very kind. Dr. Weger was very efficient and thorough and gave us options. He also followed up with results and asked how she was doing. I can appreciate how hard it must be to work as a vet or vet tech. They were all really great.
I was really struggling with my bunnies after their spay and neuter surgery, but Conrad and the team truly saved the day for us. They let us come in and made us custom collars to protect their incisions. Thank you guys so much. I was super upset and overwhelmed and I really appreciate the level of care you guys provided to my babies.
We had to have our 13 years old Maddie put to sleep on Jan 20,2020. Dr. Palmer and all the staff of Calgary North Vet clinic are so helpful and have so much empathy and compassion for what we to go thru for the loss of our beloved Maddie. Today, Jan 28 we received a card from them in sharing in our loss. You are the best
So grateful for the care and love given to our cherished family member Felix and to me and my daughter during a very difficult time. Thank you to Dr Sarah Tijon and all the staff who stayed well past closing time to help guide Felix through his transition, out of pain and into the beauty beyond that awaits us all.
This place... Is incredible. The staff are wonderful. They took such good care of our cat Wilson when he got sick. They always clear things with you before moving forward with them and i cannot express how thankful I am that this place exists. And wilson is doing wonderful since getting help from CNVH. …
Amazing staff here! Would highly recommend. I've had to use this animal hospital for my exotic pets, and the two vets that I have dealt with in coming here are absolutely amazing. Very knowledgeable, caring, sympathetic to any loss you may sustain. Will definitely continue using this hospital for my pets!
They were amazing! I took my little girl in for emergency late at night and they made both of us feel so comfortable. I will be switching them to be my regular vet ♡ I just wanted to update and say I have been taking my dog to Dr. Burns and I love her she is so warm and welcoming with my pup
We brought our baby cockatiel here with a major injury. They assessed him and determined he needed surgery. The vet was knowledgeable and honest about possible outcomes. We were very lucky to have him perform the surgery and with a positive outcome. Front staff were kind and helpful.
I'm a professional pet sitter and it's such a relief to know I can always count on Calgary North with my clients' pets! I had to come over recently with a guinea pig with an infection in the ear, and earlier this year with a very sick kitty and both times, the staff was wonderful.
The administration staff were kind, professional and considerate. I found the price high for what needed to be done all things considered, but they did waive the consultation fee which was nice. They even sent a courtesy condolences card signed with personalized messages.
This hospital isn’t my typical vet clinic but I have had to come here on 3 different occasions for 3 different pets and I have to say they are some of the loveliest, most compassionate and caring people I’ve met in a clinic! Thank you for being so kind and supportive!
24 hr open location and the staff is very friendly. The doctors explain every option regarding pets treatment with you and values your choice and opinion. Be sure to take an appointment if it’s not an emergency. Wait times are long especially with the lockdown.
We were visiting from BC and my pup became ill with a respiratory infection. All the staff - the woman who answered my call, the nurses and the doctor were very kind and thorough. If we lived in Calgary this would be my choice of vet clinics. Highly recommend.
VCA is extremely expensive however, the staff is super nice and friendly, and we always get our cats food from there as he needs to be on a prescription diet. You can always call to ask questions if your cat is in crisis, and they always have great advice!
The people here are amazing!! Our little pup had a possible obstruction and they were so fast to respond and get us in to help with the issue. They followed up to check on their progress and were super helpful with all the at home care! Thank you so much!
The staff here are so friendly. Had a chance to chat with the general manager and two of the staff ladies so pleasant to speak with. The store is so well stocked with good brands of pet food and they offer great services and are very sensitive and caring
I have been to this vet to drop of a injured bird and a lost dog. Both times late at night and they people here are amazing and helpful. Very professional and definitely would recommend this place for your pets need. I may bees to transfer my pups here.
Tonight we said goodbye to our beloved Bruno aka Boo aka Bean. The staff was amazing, caring an very supportive. It's not easy to say goodbye to a love one, so thank you for your kindness and understanding. We love you Bruno and will never forget you ❤️
My dog hurt her paw and I brought her here as it was the closest place. They were absolutely amazing. Great with my dog and really nice to interact with. They did a good job at fixing her paw and kept in touch with me to make sure she was doing okay.
We've taken a couple of our beloved dogs there under difficult circumstances and the staff there were always caring and compassionate. Although we don't use them for our day to day vet visits I wouldn't hesitate to. I highly recommend this clinic.
I dropped a bottle of insulin on the ground at 9:30 pm on a Saturday. I called them and they were able to give me an emergency refill to last me until my regular vet was open. From problem to solution in under an hour. They were amazing.
The Vets and staff are hands down amazing. We rushed my dog in today with an emergency they took him right in and took amazing care of him. Could not recommend them enough!!! Thank you so much for helping Winston out today.
Amazing compassionate staff! Thank you to Chris, Jillian and Dr. Shutt. All the staff was great but I didnt get their names. It was a really sad situation and they made my puppies passing much more bearable for her and I.
Poor service. From the front desk they say they are busy but you can hear them just talking about there day. After 2 hours of waiting for a vet. Then another 30mins so far for them the bring meds in so I can leave.
Took our Frenchie there for an injured patella after 6pm as our vet was closed and had great service despite being us being a walk in during a busy night. Highly recommend! Thank you for caring for our pet so well.
Today I had to make a hard decision for nova The care she received at 4st nw was compassionate and comforting Kudos go to Kenya and Dr Barton Nova had lots of hair and as a husky she left it behind Thank you June
My senior pup was very sick, today she had seizures and it was her time to go. This vet clinic was kind, compassionate and took their time. They allowed us the time we needed to grieve and say goodbye.
Stephanie made me feel so welcome here even though I was having a full breakdown! Extremely tactful and helpful staff, great bedside manor, and my cat was treated like a king! Thank you guys!
Fantastic clinic/hospital! I've been there a few times in high stress situations with my puppy and the staff has been unbelievably kind, calm and helpful. It's my go to for my Mindi dog!
The receptionist I spoke to was not helpful and rude. Fortunately there are other great options for emergency vet clinics in the area with friendly, helpful and experienced staff.
My girl Olive hurt her rear paw. Thought it was broken. A visit here was amazing from reception to vet assistants to Dr Jason. Can't recommend this place more ! Thanks team!
Thank you especially to Janine, for your kindness, advice and honesty. You are a treasure and I hope your employer knows how blessed they are to have you in their employ.
Long wait time Friday night but, they offered me herbal tea, helped charge my phone when it died on me. Super polite, thorough and friendly. My cat was in great hands.
We love VCA Calgary North. They are very compassionate about all the animals needs. Our cat is very calm when she visits. We recommend VCA Canada North Animal Hospital
Very caring and attentive staff. They admitted they didn't know much about our little skinny pig but they tried. You can't ask for more than that- just great people.
