Sunday, April 16 — 14min before close, a librarian wobbled over to us and firmly told us that we need to get out! Speaking to the group beside me. And I quote: "Excuse me, but did you NOT hear the announcement? It's time for you to pack up and get out!" Even though there was an announcement on the speaker literally a minute ago and everyone heard. She huffed and said "I'll be back!" That's when everyone looked at each other in shock. How incredibly rude and vulgar her tone was. 8minutes before closing she came back. I was at the desk on my computer. Everything was packed away, and I was in the midst of saving my work. She then ordered me to GET OUT. Didn't ask me nicely, didn't remind me what time it was, but ordered me to GET OUT. And that's when I said "You don't have to be so rude about it." And then it's the "EXCUSE ME?" I repeated, you don't be so rude about it. She said "I'm not." And I told her that with that tone and ordering us to GET OUT, you are being rude. That's when she began insulting me saying that I am being passive aggressive and then she mumbled about me having issues during childhood and then said I need to grow up. So, that's the kind of person that's working in the library, one who is rude and insults you? Welcome to Vancouver.
Its a nice library with a fairly reliable wifi network. My only complaint is that its very NOISY. This branch can best be described as a combination daycare center/video game arcade. Kids come in daily to play video games on the public networks and they yell, chatter, swear and run around. Other patrons are clearly annoyed but the staff does absolutely nothing unless someone makes an issue of it. If that weren't bad enough, there are always toddlers bawling their heads off, children running through the aisles, screaming and laughing at the top of their lungs, etc. Children should be encouraged to go to the library but the line has to be drawn somewhere. Come on, staff. Get this place under control.
I wanted to work and study from there as I expected a library is quiet enough. This vpl branch is more like a community centre. People talk and chat and laugh very loud, mostly senior people were there, chatting very loud. There was a guy sat beside me who was chatting in chatrooms and talk very loud. I told the librarian to come and ask him to be less noisy but she said she can't do much as it's a public library!!! Seriously?! I was shocked. Honestly it was a very bad experience and I do not recommend this place if you need a quiet place to study.
This is a playground with books. Over 50% of the library is dedicated to children and children's entertainment. I've tried to study for the last hour and a half while a mentally retarded drop off has a screaming meltdown and the library staff will do nothing because,"this place is for everyone." The quiet areas are very literally next to the toddlers play area and children can frequently be found screaming while playing tag in the adult sections. This is not a library, it is a playground and the librarians are useless.
Last week I came to print out some documents. I needed some help from a staff there. She was so helpful and kind. Unfortunately, the printing issue was still on, she then got help from her manager for me. The manager lady tried to fix the issue for me patiently and kindly. Finally, she could figure out how to fix the issue and printed out the documents for me. I very much appreciated their help.
At a time like this with the uncertainties of the COVID-19, it is an amazing service rendered to book lovers. The patience and perseverance of the staff is beyond words can say. I especially love the gracefully stern officer at the door. Thank you VPL, Thank you BC and Thank you Canada. VPL taught me most as a new comer.
I stayed here from 10am to 12pm on weekdays. This place isn't that big. and there are quite a few kids, and it's really loud. but their parents don't restrain them(even when kids run around and play hide-and-seek). If you wanna study quietly, I'd like to ask you to go somewhere else. and the washroom stinks.
Very conveniently located. Clean and bright space to work or read. Very helpful staff, at least the times when I needed assistance. My only advice would be to stay away on weekdays between 3 and 6pm, when the kids come in after school and play games on the computers. It can get rowdy.
One of the most well-maintained libraries in East Vancouver. I like the partitioned study desks. Some of them are near an outlet, so if you're working on your laptop, and want some quietness, this is the place to come. Also, I like how it stays open until 9 even on weekdays.
Air conditioned. A relatively big library with programs for toddlers and adults. Clean facility. Parking underneath is tight and limited. Washrooms. Internet available. Computers. Summer reading programs. Play area for toddlers. Washrooms available.
Beautiful branch. The beautiful high vaulted ceilings make the space feel so much more expansive and majestic. Magical location. Public transit is also conveniently located outside the doors as well, and there are plenty of computers on the inside.
Love this library. Lots of seats unlike other small libraries. Kids sections are at the other end, but you can still hear their noice in the distance. Kids sections are super cute, some interactive toys area for toddlers too.
It is a Very busy library for many local people to enjoy their service. However, it looks as if they haven’t provided enough computers especially after the school hours. Difficult to find a quiet and comfort seating. :(
I absolutely love this library. Computers are always available, and staff is awesome. It is a good sized library as well. Lots of parking too! I met a lot of great people who I can call my friends at this library!
Great place if you want to settle down and browse the web. Dunno about the noises if anyone is concerned. Desk spots are great and have some privacy for those who hate having their laptops face the open areas.
Great internet access. Friendly librarians. Bright and good place to study. The down side is that it is very noisy after the morning hours; it looks and sounds like a nursery and retirement home.
Pequena mas ótima e a carteirinha da acesso a muita coisa online. Com a carteirinha vc tb pode reservar estúdio de gravação em downtown. Sério, façam a carteirinha!!!
Easily accessible by transit or by vehicle (with ample parking) this library has been recently renovated. There is a good selection of genres, including kids books.
My children enjoy the Renfrew branch as it has interactive stations as well as a good selection of books and videos. Friendly and free parking are bonuses
Don't know what I would do without our city's library system.A treasure trove of books and DVD's It's awesome. Thank you VPL from the bottom of my heart.
My go to place to study. Not too crowded with an adequate amount of available desks. People are considerably quiet. Nice scenery of the park at the back.
Spacious, open layout. Lots of natural light. Soaring wood ceiling. Busy and noisy -- lots of chatter -- and sound carries in the open space. not ideal
I like this little library, but at times, too many kids are around from Nootka Elementary school after 3:00 PM and make quite a bit of noise.
Super nice library small but enough as a cute library but downside the library is too cold (They keep the temp very low) can't seat too long
Very good place to feed your thirst for knowledge. May it be books, media, CDs or audiobooks. Peaceful, great location and well maintained.
Just wanted to print my Business Plan they set me up with a library card and computer right away I was in an out in 4 minutes literally.
Lego Mondays. A lot of activities during holidays. Right next to the community centre. Lots of free parking and underground parkade
Great place for kids and adults, I come with my 4 year old and she has a big collection of books as well as interactive play area.
The people working there were very friendly, helpful and patient. Thanks a bunch to our public workers doing a great job.
Convienent library with great selection of books, videos, magazines. Great kids area for reading. Plenty of workstations
Very nice branch! The staff is friendly and always willing to help. It 's glad to see there's so many Chinese books.
good for studies , if people do silence their phone/ avoid making noises& themself talking in the area.......
A nice library with a variety of different kinds of books. Also has a fast and easy way to check out books.
extremely loud and very hard to study kids screaming everywhere and there is0 noise control …
Great kids area, we're looking forward to the new year when they will finish renovations.
