Dr phan saved my giant dogs life! I brought in Brutus a puppy neo mastiff already at 40kgs. He had strangled himself on a car tie down while we were driving in the car, we took the collar off but he still wasn't able to breathe. So we went here because it was the closest vet to us at the time but had no idea if they would take an emergency or be able to help us. He had only minutes and was limp when we brought him in he had asphyxiated and was over heating at 42c. Dr phan handled everything amazingly getting to work quickly and taking time between Brutus as an emergency and his other patients whom he needed to see. The receptionist/assistants was extremely kind and compassionate and stayed patting him on the floor while we were getting him stable. He got Brutus's airway open and got his temperature down and had us come in at 5pm at closing to discuss the options of what to do next! At 5pm Brutus still wasn't walking or getting up he was awake but unable to move. Dr phan thought he will likely need to sleep it off but that still could be other hidden issues. So he gave us options of being able to either leave him over night and having him come back after hours and check on him, or take him home and make him comfortable and stay up all night watching him and hoping he can sleep it off, or to take him to a 24h emergency vet hospital. He explained the vetbill that would leave us with and the limited options that each choice has, as not much else could be done either way. with the stress for him and us of leaving him somewhere else, we decided to take him home. He helped us carry Brutus out and into the car and even gave us towels for the road as Brutus was still very ill. We stayed up all night keeping him comfortable and talking to him throughout the night and like Dr phan thought he slept it off! He was awake and sitting up at midnight and was walking and moving around again and being cheeking and milking his new amount of attention and asking for treats by morning! Dr phan saw us the next morning(today) and gave him a (hopefully) final check up and sorted through the effects of what he went through yesterday. The cost was amazingly low for what emergancy care and unfortunately clean up afterwards, that brutus needed which was an absolute blessing! I can't get over how lucky we were to be near by such an amazingly well qualified and compassionate veterinarian and receptionist/assistant when the emergency happened! I am so happy to have my boy back to himself! I wanted to leave this detailed review to show how amazing the vetcare hawthorn team handled Brutus's emergancy and how kind and compassionate they were the whole time. dr phan has to be the best veterinarian I have ever found i highly recommend seeing him!

At the risk of sounding like a cliche, I am not one to write online reviews, however this is one I can’t let go to the keeper… Christmas Eve 2020; we discovered an ominous lump on our beloved dog and frantically searched far and wide to try and not only find a good Vet, but one that’s available during the Christmas shutdown period, someone reasonably local and price, but most importantly a vet with had top-notch experience with a true love for all animals (tall order!). Well, Christmas came early as we stumbled across Dr Phanuel Mponda at Vetcare Hawthorn on Camberwell Road. Along with his impressively long list of 5-star ratings and glowing customer reviews, his professionalism and skillset is as strong as his bubbly personality and kind hearted nature. We rang him immediately to explain the situation, which was met with total understanding and empathy. He managed to squeeze us in for an urgent appointment that same-day. When we arrived, at first glance he identified the lump did in fact look tumorous - although thought to be benign – however, managing our expectations by confirming without a pathology test, certainty cannot be assessed. Compassionately, Dr Phan didn’t want the afflictive “what if?” question looming over our heads during the holiday season and therefore decided to remove the lump (that day) and send to pathology for retrospective results test, rather than take a sample and send for testing, which if proved sinister couldn’t be actions for weeks. Dr Phan’s visual diagnosis was 100% correct - the tumor was not malignant – however we would have had it removed regardless as lumps can change, very quickly. I want to thank Dr. Phan hole-heartedly for and relieving us from unnecessary stress and anguish, especially after such a tough year following the pandemic. Dr. Phan is a personable, understanding and highly skilled Vet, with a true love for animals and respect for their owners and the deep connections they withhold. He takes time to build rapport with the animals before carrying out any services and gains immediate trust that is well-deserving from the owners/clients. So, for all Victorians looking for a top-shelf family Vet, I strongly recommend you to look no further than Dr Phanuel Mponda at his Vetcare Hawthorn clinic! He is the best!

Dr Phan is a one of a kind vet! I have been to many vets in the area and no one is quite like Phan. I have even moved from the area now and still come to Phans practice for his incredible knowledge with animals and the way his clinic feels like a community. He sits with your animal and truly interacts with them/gets to know them like no other vet I've seen before. You will always be taken care of and not just another number/customer. He is so diligent and careful in his diagnosis and wont immediately jump to pushing medication/treatment if there are other options. You can trust that he will only recommend tests and medication if it's absolutely necessary. Unlike some vets in the area he won't just take you for your money! I've been taking my senior foster dog to him and my sister has been taking her dog to him for years and we couldn't be happier with the treatment we have received. He uses his hands and experience to make best judgment and he always ensures he is doing right by the animal in his recommendations for treatment. Thank you Dr Phan for making it so easy to trust you and giving the upmost care to our doggies!

My cat came back one day with a limp on her foot. I could only bring her to this vet about one week after she first started limping. I wanted her to have some x-rays but the vet (can't remember her name, I think it was Sunili ) advised me that my cat was already walking quite well then and that there was no point in doing so. Good advice - plus she saved me a fair bit of money. I then asked Sunili to give my cat a first vaccination booster and also a payment plan as I had limited resources. She told me I could pay half on that day and the other half in four weeks time when I came for the second booster shot which was necessary. About one and half weeks time I negotiated with Ava the nurse to bring my cat along for her second booster shot in two and half weeks time but could I pay the second half of the first booster shot and also the first half of the second booster shot on that day, the final half to be paid in two weeks time. She allowed me to do that and I was over the moon !!! It just proves that the staff in Vetcare Hawthorn are empathetic and compassionate towards their patients' needs and must love animals also.

took two of my rats here for medication for a respiratory infection. my usual exotic vet was closed so i tried one in the area. once i finally saw the vet he insisted on a shot of Enrotril, which i thought in their best interest. the needle was large and they were squeaking in pain and it took many tries to inject all the liquid. a few days later i notice a 20c sized wound on their back and immediately call the vets, which rung out. i do some googling and find that this is the result of a too highly concentrated dose given to them and that the chemicals had essentially melted the skin around the injection site. i call this vet again and leave a detailed voice message explaining the issue and how it was caused by negligence. i wasn’t contacted for TWO WEEKS! when finally they left me a voicemail apologising for the error. luckily rats are master healers and they had already almost completely healed. DO NOT bring rats here!!!!

My rescue puppy had some initial medical procedures (desex and vaccinations) done at this vet, before I adopted in early May. My new vet and I have been trying since May to get medical history, to know what happened with the procedure as my vet is concerned about the testicles of my dog, and that we don't know which vax boosters are needed for my dog. Still nothing has been provided, despite months of requests. Simply put, not good enough, with implications for my dogs health long term. Edit. I appreciate the issues with staffing, but the reasons given for not sharing the details with my vet was that the vet needed to approve it was on holidays, then we've heard nothing. If there are staffing issues then your vet nurses and admin staff need support so urgent medical information can be transmitted! Simply not good enough

My partner and i have been taking our dog to Dr. Phanuel for close to 4 years now. Our dog hasn't been the luckiest in regards to health and has required some pretty extensive surgeries over time. If it wasn't for Dr. Phanuel i can confidently say that we probably wouldn't have our dog with us today. We feel extremely blessed to have such an amazing vet to take care of our loved one. Dr. Phanuel has such an extensive knowledge of his field and puts his all into the animals that he works with. He has a great sense of humor, is very reliable and is always more than happy to help his patients. I have seen many vets in the last decade but hands down Dr. Phanuel is the very best i have come across. Thank you very much for always being there for us!

Place seemed like it had nice and knowledgable staff at first, but after my cat continued having symptoms, developed even further issues and began worsening in his condition, i called another vet and was basically told all the meds except his antibiotics were incorrect and these guys were misdiagnosing either because theyre incompetent, improperly trained or just didnt care enough. Went from just having mites here to actually having a urinary tract infection at the much better vet i went to. Ended up needing lots of work and is much sicker than these guys made out. DO NOT TRUST TAKING YOUR CAT HERE. Theyre expensive and unaware. They also barely answer their phones even when they specifically ask for a follow up.

Dr Phan at Vetcare is the best vet I have ever come across. Other vets just make you feel like a number. While Dr Phan is so attentive and so thorough. He goes into so much detail about the diagnosis and treatment, which really gives us comfort. Once you have a relationship with him, he is also available on call and text when it is a small question or concern. Other vets refuse to talk to you unless you come in. We really trust him and he feels like he cares about our furry friend and us!!! He also does some crazy odd hours to accommodate us.

I’m really sorry to say that I would not recommend this vet. A month ago we took our dog in and she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. An X-ray was conducted and no blockages were found, we left with some medication and reassurance that all would be well and that we had nothing to worry about. 24 hours later our dog passed away. I’m very puzzled now to how they were so incredibly confident that our dog would be okay, and why blood tests or IV fluids weren’t conducted. Had we had chose another vet, perhaps our dog would still be with us.

Horrible service. Waited over an hour for an appointment that I had booked in. Receptionist kept coming out and saying “Sorry 5 minutes longer” which I was understanding of. 1 hr and 10 minutes later the vet was ready for me but took another appointment that walked in 2 minutes prior. The receptionist turned to me and said “sorry I tried to say it was your your turn first”. I ended up leaving. My dog was limping so typically I was worried about him. Wouldn’t recommend.

Good vet. Very knowledgeable and once we got our cat in diagnosed the issue, alleviated our worry and prescribed some medication quickly. Unfortunately we did wait alongside other people in the foyer for around 10minutes (after ringing the bell) before anyone even came out to acknowledge us. I think he was looking after his children back of house but being left without seeing any staff for 10 minutes loses the two stars.

We wanted to thank Dr Phan @ Vetcare Hawthorn for the amazing service we received over Christmas when our precious fur baby, Honey, got very sick. Dr Phan was gentle, very caring and patient with us and even came out after hours to treat our precious girl which no doubt saved her life. We have always experienced the highest level of care at Vetcare Hawthorn and can't thank Dr Phan enough for looking after our furbabies.

My dog was misdiagnosed at another vet clinic and then he had a burst abscess. We brought him in on a Sunday and Dr Phan operated on him. What we most appreciated (apart from being open and available on a Sunday!) was staying with our dog while he has his pre-anaesthetic sedation which helped to keep him calm. He is normally an anxious dog especially at the vet and we thought this made a huge difference for him and us.

Dr Phan is a well trained Vet with a deep care for the animals in his care. I love the hands on approach, the friendly care and deep love for the animals in their care. You can call when you have concerns and that the practice will call to check on how things are going. Dr Phan is currently studying advance surgical practice and was offered a place in this additional training due to his skill and commitment.

Dr Phan is very helpful and happy to accommodate raw feeders. He will advise on nutritional needs for all stages of you babies' life and recommends when it is appropriate to take blood tests etc. to ensure your babies nutritional needs are being met and to check on their general wellness. He also does fecal worm tests and takes bloods for Vaccinal Titer Testing. Highly recommend! Thank you team.

Dr Phan is excellent and our pups are very comfortable at the clinic. My female dog was spayed by Dr Phan. She had keyhole surgery and it only left the tiniest of scars which Is unnoticeable now and it healed very quickly. He provides holistic care and supports fresh food feeding. He is kind and gentle with out babies. Vetcare Hawthorn is our go to! Thanks team at Vetcare Hawthorn!

whilst this vet's stardard business hours are 9-5 7 days a week, beware they charge a a surcharge on Sundays (which is not disclosed on booking). In my experience they also push for additional services which are not required, and the room my dog was seen in had a dogs tooth and pet hair all over the floor and the exam table and were covered in pet hair... will not be returning

Lost our dog and we were worried sick. Someone had found him and took him to Vetcare Hawthorn. They contacted us after checking the microchip and opened after hours (11pm !!!) so that we could be reunited with our pet and didn't even charge us a fee for it. They went above and beyond, we really appreciate it. Thank You

I had nothing but problems with my new little chihuahua and Phanuel was fantastic. From diagnosis to treatment. Not to mention that he was there on a whim every time I needed him for reassurance. Dr Phan took us in last minute as a new patient. He is really calm & gentle with both the cat & me. Was extremely impressed with the service. If the cats come across any trouble I know where I'm taking them. Not a busy rushed environment, very personal with a level of care.

Lovely people here and wonderful help! Brought a possum here and despite it being a Sunday, the staff there were more than willing to take him in and look after him so well done you all. It’s a tough gig the vet industry but these folks do their best.

Dr Phan helped us out one Sunday, he was really lovely and easy to deal with - particularly when we were all stressed out! It's quite pricey due to after hours fees, but given that it's more of an emergency situation that can be understood.

Dr Pham is an incredible gentleman who is kind, grounded and willing to have a real heartfelt conversation about your pet. Every time we visited he has treated my elderly dog with dignity and compassion. I couldn't imagine a better carer.

I needed to contact an Emergency Vet so that I could bring in an ill Animal. They did not have a Vet available, but they went out of their way to find numbers for Emergency Services. I am so appreciative of their help and caring manner.

I would highly recommend Vetcare. I recently had my GSD pup deserved there and was very happy with the price and service we received. The vet was so nice he even delivered my pup home for me after the procedure for a small price.
