Our vet let us know that our dog Enzo likely needed surgery and to be referred to a neurologist in Toronto after his back legs stopped working suddenly. When we met with Dr. Lim, her bright demeanour instantly uplifted our moods - her expertise and optimism for Enzo’s situation allowed us to put our full trust in her. Upon further tests by Dr. Lim, it was determined that Enzo needed surgery and to stay in Dr. Lim’s care for a few days. As any dog family would, we were so nervous and scared, yet Dr. Lim communicated clearly and we were so confident in her ability! She really has the most caring character and assured us she’d be watching over Enzo every step of the way. And that she did! Enzo is walking as if he is brand new!! With Dr. Lim’s pristine attention to detail and care for him, we are so blessed to have him back to us so healthy and recovered. I can’t reiterate more how critical Dr. Lim was to Enzo’s care and recovery. Not only that, she showed so much support to our family as of course, we were worried throughout this critical time where Enzo had become almost paralyzed. If you find yourself needing an animal neurologist and happen to have your pet in the care of Dr. Lim… you are so lucky to have her, rest assured! She is a skilled surgeon, amazing communicator and lights up the room. Dr. Lim saved our sweet Enzo. On behalf of our family and Enzo…. Thank you Dr. Lim!
I strongly encourage anyone seeking an internal specialist to look elsewhere. Do NOT bring your pet to see Dr Mason. I made the error of not listening to the reviews below thinking they were over exaggerated and could not regret my decision more. I took my cat to see Dr Mason multiple times - the first he diagnosed her with IBD but did not respond to my follow up questions via email so I had to seek guidance from her normal vets. We then brought her in for lack of appetite and weight loss a little over a year later (thought I’d give him another chance). Her normal vets were concerned she was developing diabetes. Dr Mason was negligent in his diagnosis and tripled her IBD medication dose - a medication known to cause diabetes. Sure enough, less than a month later she was diagnosed with diabetes. His arrogance continued during our interaction regarding her diabetes treatment where he scolded me for asking questions during a follow up call and continually referred to my cat as a dog - meaning he couldn’t even be bothered to look at my cat’s files to see which patient he was talking about. Dr Mason’s poor bedside manner and flippant disregard for giving your pet diligent care is not worth your time. Ask your vets for another referral.
I can’t express how grateful I am for Dr. Stef Lim in neurology, as well as all of the staff at the VEC. Our regular veterinarian referred us to neurology after our dog Lucy began to have seizures, we got an appointment for the following day but things worsened quickly (literally overnight) and we arrived to the VEC earlier than our appointment time where the staff were quick to get her seen and looked after. Not only was Dr. Lim caring and compassionate towards my pet, but she was extremely patient with me and explained everything clearly and in a way I understood, helping me make the best decision for my pet and walking me through her treatment plan each step of the way. Lucy was under the care of Dr. Lim in the ICU for ~3 days and she received care that exceeded my expectations, by every team member that worked with her, and I received frequent updates and was never made to feel like a bother when I reached out myself for updates. Even after we got Lucy home Dr. Lim checked in on her and was always quick to get back to us with any questions or concerns we had. As Lucy will require ongoing treatments with Dr. Lim, it feels great knowing she’s with people we can trust, that care about her like their own pet.
Earlier this month, our dog Scout suddenly and unexpectedly lost her ability to stand up and walk. We were transferred to VEC in Toronto and she was admitted. The staff at VEC were very compassionate and friendly. They gave us daily updates and were happy to pass along questions or concerns to the Doctors working that day. Neurologist Dr. Lim eventually took over Scouts care. Scout was officially diagnosed with IVDD in the upper region of her neck. The disc was pushing on her spinal cord and she simply lost most but not all of the sensation to her legs. Dr Lim was very confident about Scouts outcome with surgical intervention. Throughout the process she was very open & honest and answered all of our questions. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her job. Dr. Lim genuinely cares for her patients as if they were her own, which was extremely important to us. The surgery went great and within a few weeks Scout was able to walk and enjoy life as a dog again! Thank you for the incredible work Dr Lim, her team and to the entire VEC. We have our dog back!
The Most incredible Vet Emergency Clinic I have ever been to. My vet recommended this location in particular, and although I was not looking forward to driving downtown it was totally worth it. The care, attention, knowledge, professionalism, expertise and communication make this clinic #1. My 7 yr old Bernese Mountain dog had eaten a sock, vomited 20 x overnight and required surgery to remove the sock which was stuck in his intestines. Within an hour after being admitted an ultrasound had been preformed, he was diagnosed and surgery was preformed. He was then transferred to ICU for 5 days. Twice per day his doctors would call to update me on his status and we were able to visit, which I believe helped him with his recovery. I can't say enough great things about this hospital from the receptionists to the Vet Tech's to the doctors. Top notch, extremely impressed with everyone here. Thank you sooo much for taking such great care of Slater.
I have now been to VEC for 2 separate issues, 1 year apart, for my older bulldog. I have had good experiences so far. Dr. DeGroot operated on my bulldog to open her airways last year (at the age of 10) She had soft palate syndrome which had only developed later in life. My dog had a quick, smooth recovery and her quality of life has drastically improved since. Dr Degroot takes time to explain things and was very reassuring, which is appreciated during a visit to the vet because it can be scary. The staff at VEC has been efficient, friendly and accommodating every time I have been there. It was easy to book an appointment to fit my schedule and they took me on time. They are very kind towards the animals which is important. I also appreciate that it is an inclusive environment.
Our appointment was booked within a couple of days of the referral < br />I was asked several relative questions < br />Admission was quick and timely. Review with Dr Intern and then Dr. Then a consultant gave us a brief rundown on procedures and we were given a timeline of what would happen < br />Next. Very very organized. Now at home have just discovered Josie has had her nails done while under anesthesia, I didn't even request!! Awesome awesome. All staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you I felt like I was kept informed. I'm well educated in horse care and it relates in many ways to our dogs. I wasn't treated like I didn't need to know. The care of Josie was listened to and she was looked after well
Dr. French is incredibly caring when it comes to your pets. She recently performed dental surgery on our chihuahua Timmy. We were referred to Dr. French from our dog's vet because Timmy needed "extra" care you can say. She was very meticulous and thorough with Timmy's procedure and after care and patient with me as I had many questions. We were given the option to pick either VCA Oakville or VEC Toronto and we chose VEC Toronto even though I live 10 minutes away from VCA Oakville but that's a story for another day. Ultimately, we are very happy that Timmy was under the care of Dr. French. I highly recommend her over anyone else if you have to bring your dog here for referred dental.
I read reviews prior to our appointment with Internal Medicine specialist Dr Mason. There were some that concerned me but I take reviews in general with a grain of salt knowing there's always back info and emotion I'm not privy to. Dr Mason and his team were clear and concise in their delivery of a clinical plan and expectations. We were delivered a pretty tragic diagnosis and he was kind, compassionate and checked in with us to give updates multiple times throughout the process. He spent time explaining areas where we had questions but, never waivered in letting us know what exactly we were facing and what our options, or lack thereof, were. I highly recommend him and his team.
I was first amazed at the how quickly my dog and I were seen. We had an appointment time and didn’t wait more than 5 minutes before being called in. Dr. George was very kind and patient with my anxious and man fearing dog. We also met with Dr. Doug who was very knowledgeable and made sure I understood everything he was talking about along the way. The office had direct billing for my insurance which was amazing and it was a very smooth process. I got a quote before we went ahead with any treatment and I was surprised at the very reasonable price even if I didn’t have insurance. We were in and out all tests completed within an hour! 10/10 they did a great job!
This is not to dissuade anyone from going there, just to inform and then can make own decisions. Would recommend other clinics before this one since not top of the list and not the best by any means. Hopefully they will improve care and diligence and supervision and other things suggested, for sake of pets and pet owners but can only make suggestions to them and up to those who own the place to implement or make decisions to do, if they think warranted. Can only hope and make suggestions and let others make their own choices and decisions and is all anyone can do. Wishing you all the best.
I had to rush my cat in at 2:30 in the morning as he was very lethargic and no longer eating. The staff at VEC were able to see him immediately and got him on IV right away. After they did an ultrasound they informed me of a foreign object found in his intestines and started on surgery with him as soon as possible. The staff at VEC kept me in the loop all throughout the process and explained everything in detail as far as after care and discharge instructions. they were very professional. My cat is good as new and happier than ever thanks to everyone at VEC
I can only rate this based on prior experiences with emergency vet clinics in Toronto. It's always going to be a miserable experience. The staff is really trying their best and the way the two ladies at the front desk and first vet techs kept things humming was fantastic. I was served immediately and given an update very quickly upon admission. As for the vet care, it's pretty on par with the others. But I did appreciate the vet's transparency and willingness to talk through common sense options versus trying to spin up numerous expensive scenarios.
I had such an awful experience here. Waited for 4 hours just for the doctor to not examine my sick cat and try and tell me that he has something he doesn't while ignoring the problems i had. This was criminal, and the doctor should have his license taken away. I left not knowing what was wrong with my animal. NEVER TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE Edit: sonthe vet i saw never gave me any information about what was wrong with my cat, nor did he fill out his report so no other doctor could help me. This place is criminally under qualified to help animals
We called this clinic around 7pm and they have this fantastic queuing system. I input all my info then they text you when they are ready. Excellent system !! And I was expecting to not be contacted for a long time as my pet was not critically injured. But then we got a call in an hour and a half went to the clinic and seen right away. Their system is amazing. Also the staff are wonderful kind and patient. Excellent bedside manner from everyone we interacted with. Thank you so much!!
Dr.French, who was performing the surgery, was knowledgeable, reassuring, confident and very experienced. She made me feel very at ease about the whole process. The triage nurse, whose name unfortunately I did not get, was also very informative. I could just tell my dog was in good hands. And usually with such procedures cost is always a worry but it was actually very fair and affordable. I am very grateful for the care my dog received at the VEC today!
Dr. French is very nice and kind to us. She understands we are worried about our little dog, and she made sure we are not stressed. She call us couple times on the day of surgery, also called second day for follow up. My family doctor even not this nice to me. Over all, all the stuff at the VEC is very nice, and our baby is recovery quickly. Highly recommend this place! if you fur baby had problems, bring them here, they will be treated nicely.
We took our cat to VEC today to try to get to the bottom of a drawn out illness. The staff were friendly, thorough, and efficient. We met with Dr. Mason, who really listened and put the pieces of the health mystery together quickly, explaining his suspicions in a way that was easy to understand. We felt confidence in his care and are relieved that we have a much clearer picture of what is going on and how we can help our sweet boy.
Amazing Team! Every single team member from the ICU, ACA, Vet Specialist Doctors, Vet Tech and Reception - everyone there shares the same attitude and mission - to provide the best care possible. I don’t know who hires and trains the team but I feel like everyone was hand picked with a very special gift of compassion and care. I would give them 6 STARS if I could. This hospital gets it - and they work damn hard!! Respect.
My new rescue puppy has a bone problem with his knees. I was referred here. Dr. Ringwood is very knowledgeable and kind. The staff is warm and friendly. I did not have to wait long. The doctor explained everything very well and knew how to help my puppy. I have received help here years ago for my previous cat also and they were so helpful. This is a very experienced staff! Thank you.
I absolutely loved the optimology vet and all staff! They were friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to answer my concerns! My Bella has a deep eye ulcer and they were so gentle in their handling of her making sure she was comfortable. Downtown Toronto isn't fun but once you arrive your fur babies are in good hands!! …
The staff here were incredibly kind and caring. They did a great job at managing expectations, reducing our anxiety, and handling my cat. The admin were also amazing in helping us understand next steps and working with us to ensure we could pay and not have to worry about things like being able to afford groceries
The staff were friendly and helpful. Any anxiety I felt was relieved upon meeting Dr. French during her examination of Luna. Her care and concern for her patients is evident in her interaction with them and their people. And, her skill and expertise was evident when I picked Luna up later that afternoon.
I went in for an emergency assessment of my dog who was experiencing some issues. The staff are kind, efficient, helpful, take time to talk & explain things to you, and help you make informed decisions without feeling rushed like other emergency vets can sometimes do. Thanks so much to the team
Came here in the middle of the night with my cat. Doctor and all staff were very helpful and kind. Although I was worried about the cost the doctor helped me make a decision that was within my budget but still able to provide treatment for my cat. Extremely grateful!
Compassion and professionalism on point. The whole vibe is kind. I can’t say enough good things about the staff at this location. You absolutely feel your animal is taken care of, and the extra care they provide is absolutely worthy of your business.
We took our cat here for urgent care unfortunately he passed away but the vet was very compassionate and kind. We arranged to have him cremated and ashes returned to us. They treated us with respect and the urn was perfect
Exceptional service and care. Amazing staff. Our boy had a chronic case of happy tail that required amputation, We couldn't be more grateful to Dr Ringwood and his staff for their quick action Miner says thank you
5 paws up for Dr Colpitts, Dr French, and Dr De Groot! Tuna and Castiel really appreciates everyone who made our trip downtown fear free and gave us such excellent care.
They helped my puppy when my vet was closed. They assessed him and got him back to good health quickly. I felt like we were in good hands the whole time. Thank you!
