Yesterday I bought a steak and kidney pie that was extremely dry, stale and rotten. I took it back to the bakery and asked the ladies there how old was the pie they just sold to me 5 minutes ago, do they not sell fresh pies? She said the pie was baked today and doesn't understand why it's off. She than insisted I take any other product in the store. I told her I don't trust their food because a month ago they sold my dad a stale red velvet cake. This bakery back in 2003 sold the freshest, tastiest cake but clearly things have changed. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THERE. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR HEALTH.

I went to go buy a few stuff for iftaar. There were 3 ladies who worked there. Firstly what we wanted like custard tarts or something with caramel was not available. At first I found it weird that the lady behind the counter was telling me not to take this and that as it was old and when she gave us why she said was fresh red cakes, some other Swiss roll things and puff pastry with cream was off and molding. I am never going to buy anything from there again, highly disappointed. Money wasted.

I am not from Jhb BUT I remember village bakery pies back in the days, which use to be out of this world, I personally feel the bakery is extreamly overpriced, Pies leave like 75% pastry 25% dry filling, 75 bucks for a Medeira cake that's dry ( the size still does not explain the price point), a average, none of purchased did it for me personally, based on the 5 star reviews read others may like this baking style ( again just my personal experiance jzk)

The ladies there dragged their feet and seemed to be having a psychic arguement as to whose turn it is to attend to me. Finally after an unnecessarily long time (it was not busy as we were only 02 customers in the store at that time), someone said "can I help you?" With a very flat face. Disappointing as I used to shop here in the 90's when I was still at school and I think then the owners were actively running the store...

At Village Bakery everything is always fresh. The rolls and different breads are delicious and light . The cakes are decadent and the biscuit especially chic chip leave a lingering taste in the mouth. Live that you’re open on a Sunday in Ramadaan as well. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the owner support the community with charitable acts of kindness. Thank you

How to ruin your birthday? Go to Village bakery Lenasia, the birthday cake is blunt, the supposed chocolate cake... Looked like it was just coloured brown no chocolate taste whatsoever, oh don't forget the staff, the elderly lady who was at the back there when I asked for help..... So rude. See me there again, shoot me.

A very disappointing experience, the staff were so unfriendly , the products are so expensive and not worth the money you pay. There are no prices on display for the cakes and pastries. They charged R22 for a single bar one cupcake , which looked good and yet it was completely stale. The area is also not safe anymore.

Village Bakery's baked goods may not carry the ultra modern art look, but it most certainly beats out any contemporary looking edibles in taste. Their breads are second to none. Today i bought the most expensive Madeira cake which i don't mind paying for if it taste out of this world, but it was absolutely dry and brittle, just broke as you cut through. Needs to be more moist, just a suggestion. Other cakes from here are always fresh.

Cake is layered thin, with thick icing.... They losing the plot of what a cake is. It was a Swiss roll, and also, it the fresh cream was mixed with icing... I used to enjoy the swissroll...
