I, along with several friends and fellow winebibbers have shopped for wine at this shop for several years. They've recently moved to a much more convenient location with easy access to parking, which was problematic in the past. If you know anything about wine, know how to use Wine-Searcher for pricing information etc., are developing your palate and want some of the finest wines in the world at the best price - even if you're on a limited budget, this is the place for you. All of the previous reviews are out of date and no longer apply. Their new staff is now very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable at almost any price point above $10, without any arrogance or intrusion. Also, they have access to most any wine available in Portland at significant case discount, just ask. My experience since the move is that they sincerely love wine and know how to share that in a humble manner. Plus, if you price shop, you'll find their prices more often than not are the very lowest in the US and that's without shipping issues and/or tax considerations. If you love good juice, value knowledgeable wine selections at great prices then you'll more than likely appreciate Vinopolis. If you're tired of, or stepping up from supermarket wines check this place out...you'll be back for more. I've been buying/drinking wine from shops in Boston, NYC, LA, SanFrancisco and Chicago for over 30yrs and this is one of the best.

While they have a great selection, particularly with German Riesling, Red Burgundy, Champagne, Tuscany, and Piemonte, they have zero accountability when it comes to flawed bottles. I've had three corked bottles over the past few months and they refuse to replace with a current vintage or even offer credit, which is extremely rare in the world of wine retail. Too bad since their selection is nice. I simply can't comprehend a business not accepting responsibility for the selections they offer, especially when they end up getting a credit back from the local distributor or winery where the wine originated before ending up on their shelves. This is the reason wineries have insurance to address issues with tainted bottles. So it's either abject selfishness or outright laziness on the part of Vinopolis. Note, I contacted the winery directly in regards to one of the bottles in question and they not only cheerfully sent me a replacement but also expressed disappointment in Vinopolis' arbitrary policy. In turn, buyer beware!

Vinopolis is, as far as I have found, the best wine shop in Portland! (With the caveat that it depends on what you’re looking for). From a pricing perspective this place cannot be beat. It has the absolutely best pricing on any wine compared with other local shops and grocers. The selection of French and Italian wines is absolutely superb. The sparkling wine selection borders on legendary (although it’s hard for any place, shops included to beat Pix when it comes to bubbles). Depending on the day you may get asked if you need help. Some days the employees may simply acknowledge you and go about their business. This may rub some people the wrong way but I love the unobtrusive nature of their approach. The point is that if you NEED help, the associates are super friendly and knowledgeable about wines, and willing to help. If you’re buying multiple bottles for entertainment or personal collection, or if you are looking for something really special, this is the place to go.

I have never been to the physical store location. I have only placed orders online and over the phone. I regularly purchase wine from several online wine vendors and Vinopolis is one of my favorites. Why? Great selection (wines are curated by top notch buyers, all killer/no filler) , great prices, and great service. They only sell top notch fine wine so if you are just getting into the world of wine or exploring a new region you can purchase with confidence. Their prices are always competitive compared to any where else in the nation. Again, you can buy with confidence knowing that the wine shop across town isn't charging $10.00 less for your favorite bottle of Brunello. Most importantly for me is their awesome customer service. They are always polite when I speak with them and my orders are charged and shipped correctly when I ask without mistakes. Thanks Vinopolis for many years of great service! D L Campbell

Well, I am generally not one to get all prissy about rude staff, ESPECIALLY at Vinopolis, but unfortunately they do exist and work at this shop. Pretentious, unhelpful, outright rude, neglectful... I am a returning customer, and on my last visit I even brought in some friends, who all bought wine, yet, I was ignored when I asked a question, I was asked to move aside so the lady could help the guy behind me, then as I stood there, in awe, waiting to be rung up, while the equally as rude man asked the woman behind me if she needed help. I put my bottles of wine down and waited outside for my friends to finish keeping these jerks in business. Life's too short for such snobbery. Next!

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. We have been customers of Vinopolis for many years and have bought over $6000 worth of wine from them. They do not care about customer service. We needed to cancel an order that had not yet shipped and they still charged us a 10% restocking fee. This is not how you should treat long-time customers and we will never buy from them again. Stay away!

  • Randy Resnick

The staff is more than a little pretentious. I was surprised to see that having spent $80 on wine there, they charged $4 for two individual bags and neglected to mention the extra charge. In the 20 years I've been purchasing fine wines, this is the first time I've seen such crass behavior. We'll never go back.

Awesome selection of premium wines and hard to find/rare bottles. Great knowledgable staff but confusing layout. Wish the store was organized a bit different. Still fun to go searching to see whats what. Highly recommend and for tourists as you can buy ahead of time and they will hold till you get there!

One of those crazy, bottles-crammed-everywhere wine shops. We had fun shopping but it wasn't easy to find things. The young man who did help us find the Lustau en Rama sherries was very pleasant, but minus 1 star for having to ask them to help us rather than them offering.

  • Amy Stewart

Always found a great selection of stuff here, and at good prices. I was a more frequent visitor at their SW location, but always enjoy making the visit to the new digs. It's definitely easier than it used to be to drop in and grab a case now that they have a parking lot!

  • Brian Medeiros

Stopped in Vinopolis to look at their selection of local wines. We had a great conversation with them about winemaking and wine tasting in the area. They gave some terrific advice and were full of information. We left with a couple of fairly-priced bottles, too.

  • Brian Graves

Great experience! The gal that helped me really knew the wines (and told me when she didn’t). She asked good questions that helped her help me find what I was looking for. I can’t wait to go back. From what I could tell, they have very good prices for the value.

  • DeAnna Hamlik

Had such a good experience with them! I know next to nothing about wine, but had a few details about what kind of wine the people I were buying for would like. They were able to easily find just what I didn't know I was looking for and the wine was a huge hit.

  • Shane Farnor

We shopped here today for the first time. We were enthusiastically welcomed by a warm sales associate, who -- we later learned -- is Michelle. (Love her!) However, while we shopped no one asked us if we needed assistance. For me, I'm mostly

The scrambled eggs were the best I've ever had. They were so fluffy and flavorful. The ham and cheese croissant was perfect too. Wine excellent! Service excellent! Atmosphere is warm and friendly. I'd give it more stars if it was an option.

  • Lannette Dexter

Great place to purchase wine in Portland.. they offer a wide range of varietals to choose from. If you’re in the market for a good bottle of VinoI highly suggest you check this place out! It will not disappoint …

  • Paul Sedillo

Don't let the spartan interior fool you, they have a wide array of wines to meet the most decerning enthusiast. Service is outstanding -- the staff is knowledgeable and they do an excellent job guiding your selections. Well worth a visit.

  • Kyle Hildebrant

Easily the best selection and pricing in wine in Portland. Their online ordering is excellent as well. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. An excellent selection of German wines--which are impossible to find in Portland--among others.

  • Kitty Hawk

Great wine selection! Looking at my receipt tho, I see I was charged $1.95 for the gift bag. I feel like if I'm spending $100 on one bottle of wine, a dollar ninty-five gift bag

  • Erik Watson

A vast width and breadth of wines. Not much else to say, apart from, give them a look, regardless of what variety you're looking for! (Good chunk of Morgon's, to note.)

  • Paula Caudill

Old world wines galore! Older vintages, hard to find labels, friendly and knowledgable staff. Oh, and it's cool in there so you know the wines are 100%

  • Paul Willenberg

If they have what you want, the prices are great. They also have what you don't yet know you want. But their selection is often lacking in odd ways.

  • Gunta Girl

This place was really neat! The guy who helped us was friendly and I got the gift I needed. I will be coming back for myself!
