The quality of flowers was terrible. It did not last two days. Very sad. ————————— Cutting Tuna Show was fun! Thank you. I recently visited Wegmans, and I must say it left a positive impression. The abundance of fresh options was impressive, making it a haven for those seeking quality produce. The staff's friendliness added to the overall pleasant atmosphere, creating a welcoming environment for customers. One highlight was the fish section, which stood out as a fun and engaging experience. The variety of seafood available was not only extensive but also showcased a commitment to quality. It was a refreshing departure from the usual routine of grocery shopping. However, it's important to note that the otherwise enjoyable experience was slightly marred by a notable inconvenience—the restroom wait time. Unfortunately, patrons had to endure waits exceeding 20 minutes, which proved to be a downside to an otherwise smoothly run supermarket.
4.5 stars rounded up. It’s a Wegmans so if you’ve been in one before, you know the drill. Lots of choice. Some good prices, some high adjusted for NYC. Had the mushroom and truffle pizza slice ($4) - it was solid and I would buy again. The complaints about the lack of the to-order subs is ridiculous. First, you’re in NYC, there are tons of great delis on practically every street corner. Maybe in upstate NY there are none and Wegmans is the best you got. Second, in Massachusetts ( recently opened stores) none of the the stores, as far as I know, have to-order sandwiches. Third, in high volume stores, making to-order sandwiches is not profitable.
Wegman’s newest supermarket has opened at Astor Place, steps from the #6 train and with a fabulous selection of all kinds of delicious takeout foods on the street level. Once you take the escalators down to the lower level you are in one of the largest grocery stores with a fantastic selection of fresh EVERYTHING: fish, meats, poultry, produce , cheeses as well as a huge selection of sll the staples you could hope to buy at any other supermarket, but at much lower prices! I was also impressed with their staff! Everyone wanted to help make my shopping experience enjoyable! And they succeeded magnificently.
If you know of Wegmans from suburbia then imagine it more sheik and wearing Manhattan winter boots. This is how I see this location. Our version near our home does not have armed security but again this is NY so don’t be fazed. Well layed out, bustling, stocked deeply and there are employees pointing how where to walk to aid in flow and efficiency. Honestly like so many things in NY, there is a level of excitement just to be in the mix. Lots of check out express kiosks and lots of help available as needed from Wegman employees. Nice to see this here. A well-run and apt business, looks good too.
Today is opening day and it is packed! I hope the hype settles down soon enough so that I can make this a regular grocery run. It’s an amazing, huge space with endless options of food and groceries to choose from. This beats Whole Foods 100%. They were giving out free snacks, samples, and coupons out in front as well as inside the store. If you have the Wegman’s app, you will find a variety of coupons including one for a free reusable tote bag which I got today. Wegman’s isn’t just a grocery store, it’s an experience and I’m so glad there’s finally a convenient location close to me.
This is an impressive store to ogle and browse - especially the Japanese fish section, gourmet cheese and ready-to-eat food sections. To actually buy, not so much. I think it is a huge oversight that they didn't include any seating - were they afraid homeless people would hang out there? As for the prices - as expensive if not more so than Whole Foods, with a few exceptions. Ready to eat foods: I wasn't impressed with the chicken tender, although the garden salad and roasted chicken wing were both good. It was a bit of a pain having to carry this back to my daughter's apartment.
This is an incredible supermarket with an excellent selection of anything you would want. It is clean, neat and well organized. The highlight for me was the Japanese fish section. They actually get daily deliveries from Tokyo - you can't get any fresher than that! The service is great as well. Steve was my fish monger and he was tremendously helpful. I couldn't help but try the Amberjack that was sliced sashimi style. It was out of this world delicious! The store is not cheap, however quality is what you will experience. This place is definitely worth checking out!
Pros: Great food on the first floor, especially love the Kobe sandwich and the variety of sushi! Con: And this bumps my review down to 1 star until this gets enforced. I counted more than half a dozen dogs casually being pulled around by their owners, and they definitely do NOT look like service dogs! Do better by enforcing these entitled pet owners to leave their dogs home or tie outside when they shop!
So excited this is finally open as the first Wegmans in Manhattan. If you are not familiar, it is just like Whole Foods (or better/more interesting) at better prices! This particular Wegmans has an extensive prepared food section on the main floor and fish and special sushi section along with grocery section on the lower floor. Asian food hot bar with an open kitchen and big woks!
I’m super exciting to visit the wegman store today. Especially, the asian food section. I love the grab & go sushi, sashimi , poke bowl. It’s look so quality. Also, there still have the counter of food and you can order the new one. The dessert part also exciting for me. It’s so attractive me to grab everything. This is my new favorite spot.
